Identifying cryptic species poses a substantial challenge to both biologists and naturalists due to morphological *** tabaci is a cryptic species complex containing more than 44 putative species;several of which are currently among the world's most destructive crop *** and delimiting the evolution of this species complex has proved *** develop a comprehensive framework for species delimitation and identification,we evaluated the performance of distinct data sources both individually and in combination among numerous samples of the *** species complex acquired *** datasets include full mitogenomes,single-copy nuclear genes,restriction site-associated DNA sequencing,geographic range,host speciation,and reproductive compatibility ***,our well-supported topologies generated from three dense molecular markers highlighted the evolutionary divergence of species of the *** complex and suggested that the nuclear markers serve as a more accurate representation of *** species *** compatibility datasets facilitated the identification of at least 17 different cryptic species within our *** geographic range information provides a complementary assessment of species recognition,while the host range datasets provide low rate of delimiting *** further summarized different data performances in species classification when compared with reproductive compatibility,indicating that combination of mtCOI divergence,nuclear markers,geographic range provide a complementary assessment of species ***,we represent a model for understanding and untangling the cryptic species complexes based on the evidence from this study and previously published articles.

Tension and Resolution: Dynamic, Evolving Populations of Organelle Genomes within Plant Cells

Mitochondria and plastids form dynamic, evolving populations physically embedded in the fluctuating environment of the plant cell. Their evolutionary heritage has shaped how the cell controls the genetic structure and the physical behavior of its organelle populations. While the specific genes involved in these processes are gradually being revealed, the governing principles underlying this controlled behavior remain poorly understood. As the genetic and physical dynamics of these organelles are central to bioenergetic performance and plant physiology, this challenges both fundamental biology and strategies to engineer better-performing plants. This article reviews current knowledge of the physical and genetic behavior of mitochondria and chloroplasts in plant cells. An overarching hypothesis is proposed whereby organelles face a tension between genetic robustness and individual control and responsiveness, and different species resolve this tension in different ways. As plants are immobile and thus subject to fluctuating environments, their organelles are proposed to favor individual responsiveness, sacrificing genetic robustness. Several notable features of plant organelles, including large genomes, mtDNA recombination, fragmented organelles, and plastid/mitochondrial differences may potentially be explained by this hypothesis. Finally, the ways that quantitative and systems biology can help shed light on the plethora of open questions in this field are highlighted.

Comparative proteomics analysis of pomegranate seeds on fruit maturation period(Punica granatum L.)

Seeds play a central role in the life cycle of plants. Seed hardness in pomegranates is of economic relevance, yet scarcely studied and poorly understood in China. In this study, we compared the proteomic differences between Zhongnonghong（soft-seeded） and Sanbai（hard-seeded） pomegranates. A total of 892 protein spots from both varieties were detected on two-dimensional electrophoresis gels（2-DE）; 76 spots showed greater than a 1.5-fold or less than a 0.66-fold difference（P〈0.05） in Zhongnonghong compared to Sanbai, of which 24 exhibited greater than a 2-fold change. Compared with Sanbai, Zhongnonghong possessed 14 up-regulated, and 10 down-regulated proteins. We identified and annotated 5 of these by using MALDI-TOF-TOF MS： pyruvate dehydrogenase（PDH） E1-β family protein（spot 4 609）; alanine aminotransferase 2-like（ALT2L）; mitochondrial glycine decarboxylase complex P-protein（spot 5 803）; phosphofructokinase B（Pfk B）-type family of carbohydrate kinase（spot 8 411）; and putative dna K-type molecular chaperone heat shock cognate protein 70（Hsc70）（spot 9 006）. Of these, 3 proteins（spots 4 609, 5 608, 5 803） were hypothesized to play a role in the formation of seed hardness. The other two proteins（spots 8 411, 9 006） were theorized to play a role in protecting the seeds from adverse stress during periods of fruit maturation. This study sets the foundation for further research on molecular mechanisms related to pomegranate seed hardness.

Differential effects of internal tagging depending on depth treatment in Atlantic salmon:a cautionary tale for aquatic animal tag use

Electronic tags are widespread tools for studying aquatic animal behavior;however,tags risk behavioral manipulation and negative welfare *** an experiment to test behavioral differences of Atlantic salmon Sal mo salar in different aquaculture cage types,including ones expected to elicit deeper swimming behavior,we found negative tagging effects depending on whether cages were *** the experiment,data storage tags implanted in Atlantic salmon tracked their depth behavior and survival in unmodified sea-cages and depth-modified seacages that forced fish below or into a narrow seawater-or freshwater-filled snorkel tube from a 4 m net roof to the *** tagged individuals survived in unmodified cages;however,survival was reduced to 62%in depth-modified *** in depth-modified cages spent considerably less time above 4 m than those in unmodified cages,and dying individuals in depth-modified cages tended to position in progressively shallower *** maximum depth that fish in our study could attain neutral buoyancy was estimated at 22 m in *** calculated that the added tag weight in water reduced this to 8 m,and subtracting the tag volume from the peritoneal cavity where the swim bladder reinflates reduced this further to 4 *** conclude that the internal tag weight and volume affected buoyancy regulation as well as the survival and behavior of tagged *** tagging studies on aquatic animals should carefully consider the buoyancy-related consequences of internal tags with excess weight in water,and the inclusion of data from dying tagged animals when estimating normal depth behaviors.

In this article,we explored the role of adipose tissue,especially mesenteric adipose tissue and creeping fat,and its association with the gut microbiota in the pathophysiology and progression of Crohn’s disease(CD).CD is a form of inflammatory bowel disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract,influenced by genetic predisposition,gut microbiota dysbiosis,and environmental *** microbiota plays a crucial role in modulating immune response and intestinal inflammation and is associated with the onset and progression of ***,visceral adipose tissue,particularly creeping fat,a mesenteric adipose tissue characterized by hypertrophy and fibrosis,has been implicated in CD pathogenesis,inflammation,and *** bacteria from the gut microbiota may translocate into mesenteric adipose tissue,contributing to the formation of creeping fat and influencing CD *** creeping fat may be a protective barrier against bacterial invasion,its expansion can damage adjacent tissues,leading to *** gut microbiota through interventions such as fecal microbiota transplantation,probiotics,and prebiotics has shown potential in managing ***,more research is needed to clarify the mechanisms linking gut dysbiosis,creeping fat,and CD progression and develop targeted therapies for microbiota modulation and fat-related complications in patients with CD.

Cloning of heat shock protein genes from the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens, and the small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus, and their expression in relation to thermal stress

Three heat shock protein （HSP） genes （hsp70, hsc70, hsp90） were partially cloned from the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens and the small brown planthopper Laodelphax striatellus （Homoptera： Delphacidae）, which are serious pests of the rice plant. Sequence comparisons at the deduced amino acid level showed that the three HSPs of planthoppers were most homologous to corresponding HSPs of dipteran and lepidopteran species. Identities of both heat shock cognate 70 and HSP90 were higher than HSP70 in both species. Identity of the HSP70 between the two planthopper species was only 81%, a value much lower than seen among fly and moth groups. Effects of heat and cold shocks were demonstrated on expression of the three hsp genes in the two planthopper species. Heat shock （40 ℃） upregulated the hsp90 level but did not change the hsc70 level in either the nymph and adult stages of either species. On the other hand, the hsp70 level was only upregulated in L. striatellus. This heat shock response was prompt and lasted only for 1 h after treatment. In contrast, cold shock at 4℃ did not change the expression levels of any hsp in either species.
