Increased excitatory amino acid transporter 2 levels in basolateral amygdala astrocytes mediate chronic stress–induced anxiety-like behavior

The conventional perception of astrocytes as mere supportive cells within the brain has recently been called into question by empirical evidence, which has revealed their active involvement in regulating brain function and encoding behaviors associated with ***, astrocytes in the basolateral amygdala have been found to play a role in the modulation of anxiety-like behaviors triggered by chronic stress. Nevertheless, the precise molecular mechanisms by which basolateral amygdala astrocytes regulate chronic stress–induced anxiety-like behaviors remain to be fully elucidated. In this study, we found that in a mouse model of anxiety triggered by unpredictable chronic mild stress, the expression of excitatory amino acid transporter 2 was upregulated in the basolateral amygdala. Interestingly, our findings indicate that the targeted knockdown of excitatory amino acid transporter 2 specifically within the basolateral amygdala astrocytes was able to rescue the anxiety-like behavior in mice subjected to stress. Furthermore, we found that the overexpression of excitatory amino acid transporter 2 in the basolateral amygdala, whether achieved through intracranial administration of excitatory amino acid transporter 2agonists or through injection of excitatory amino acid transporter 2-overexpressing viruses with GfaABC1D promoters, evoked anxiety-like behavior in mice. Our single-nucleus RNA sequencing analysis further confirmed that chronic stress induced an upregulation of excitatory amino acid transporter 2 specifically in astrocytes in the basolateral amygdala. Photobiomodulation:a novel approach to promote trans-differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells into neuronal-like cells

Co-detection and isolation of Leishmania and Crithidia among naturally infected Tatera indica(Rodentia: Muridae) in Fars province, southern Iran

Objective:To explore the co-detection of natural infection of Trypanosomatidae parasites such as Leishmania and Crithidia in reservoir hosts of ***:Rodent populations were monitored in two endemic foci of cutaneous leishmaniasis of Fars province,southern Iran from March to October *** were trapped alive in several parts of Shiraz and Kharameh ***,their organs were prepared for detection of Leishmania and Crithidia species by molecular,microscopic,and culture ***:Totally,115rodents of five species;Tatera indica(***)(85),Rattus rattus(12),Meriones libycus(9).Mus musculus(7),and Rattus norvegicus(2),were trapped alive and their tissue samples were examined using microscopic,cultivation,and molecular ***,59(51.3%)rodents were positive for Leishmania or Crithidia *** highest rate(61.2%;52/85)of Leishmania infection was related to the *** *** cultivatioin,and molecular observations showed that two(2.4%;2/85)of ***(foot-pad,and spleen samples)were positive to ***:This is the first report of Crithidia infection in *** in ***,more epidemiological and ecological studies are needed to understand the role of Crithidia and Leishmania in ***.

A comparative analysis of spontaneous fertility after myomectomy by laparotomy associated or not with a“second look”laparoscopy

Objective:The importance of a“second look”laparoscopy for adhesion formation after myomectomy by laparotomy in improving fertility is not clearly defined in our *** aim of this study was to compare spontaneous fertility after myomectomy by laparotomy between women who underwent a“second look”laparoscopy and those who did ***:We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection from January 1,2008 to December 31,2015,comparing spontaneous fertility between patients who underwent“second-look”laparoscopy after myomectomy by laparotomy to those who did ***,data was collected from the records of patients included in the ***,through phone calls,informed consent for each participant was obtained after which inquiries were made regarding their fertility ***:After a period of 24 months,23 patients(47.9%)with“second look”laparoscopy conceived,compared to 37 patients(35.2%)without“second look”laparoscopy(p=0.136);and 24 patients(50.0%)with“second look”had term pregnancies compared to 39 patients(37.1%)without“second look”laparoscopy(p=0.134).Conclusion:Spontaneous fertility rates seemed to be improved after a“second look”laparoscopy,however,there was no statistically significant difference between spontaneous fertility rates obtained after myomectomy by laparotomy,irrespective of the fact that the patient had undergone a“second look”laparoscopy or not at Yaounde Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital.

Enhancement of removal efficiency of heavy metal ions by polyaniline deposition on electrospun polyacrylonitrile membranes

This paper describes the preparation of a membrane of polyacrylonitrile(PAN)and its corresponding membrane coated with polyaniline(PANI)for the adsorption of heavy metal *** electron microscopy micrographs revealed that all the membranes exhibited nanofibrous *** prepared membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The prepared membranes were used as an adsorbent for hazardous heavy metal ions Pb^(2+) and Cr_(2)O^(2-)_(7).The adsorption capacity and the removal efficiency of the membranes were examined as function of the initial adsorbate concentration and pH of the *** membranes with PANI showed better adsorption performance and their direct current(DC)conductivities were correlated to heavy metal ion *** isotherms were also performed,and the adsorption process was tested according to the Langmuir and Freundlich *** regeneration and reuse of the prepared membranes to re-adsorb heavy metal ions were also *** enhancement in adsorption performance and reusability of PANI-coated membranes in comparison with non-coated ones is fully *** results show that the maximum adsorption capacities of lead and chromate ions on the PANI-coated membranes are 290.12 and 1202.53 mg/g,respectively.

Acute effects of chlorpyryphos-ethyl and secondary treated effluents on acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activities in Carcinus maenas

The acute effects of commercial formulation of chlorpyrifos-ethyl （Dursban ） and the secondary treated industrial/urban effluent （STIUE） exposure on acetylcholinesterase （ACHE） and butyrylcholinesterase （BuChE） activities in hepatopancreas and gills of Mediterranean crab Carcinus maenas were investigated. After 2 d of exposure to chlorpyriphos-ethyl, the AChE activity was inhibited in both organs at concentrations of 3.12 and 7.82 μg/L, whereas the BuCHE was inhibited only at higher concentration 7.82 μg/L of commercial preparation Dursban~. The exposure of crabs to Dursban （3.12 μg/L） showed a significant decrement of ACHE activity at 24 and 48 h, whereas the BuChE was inhibited only after 24 h and no inhibition for both enzymes was observed after 72 h. Moreover, a significant repression of AChE activity was observed in both organs of C. maenas exposed to 5% of STIUE. Our experiments indicated that the measurement of AChE activity in gills and hepatopancreas of C. maenas would be useful biomarker of organophosphorous （OP） and of neurotoxic effects of STIUE in Tunisia.

Antibacterial applications of graphene oxides: structure-activity relationships, molecular initiating events and biosafety

Bacterial infections may lead to diverse acute or chronic diseases （e.g., inflammation, sepsis and cancer）. New antibiotics against bacteria are rarely discovered in recent years, which necessitates the exploration of new antibacterial agents. Engineered nanomatetials {ENMs） have been extensively studied for antibacterial use because of their long lasting killing effects in wide spectra of bacteria. Graphene oxide （GO） is one of the most widely studied ENMs and exhibit strong bactericidal effects. The physicochemical properties of GO play important roles in bacterial killing by triggering a cascade of toxic events. Many studies have explored the signaling pathways of GO in bacteria. Although molecular initiating events （MIEs） of GO in bacteria dominate its killing efficiency as well as toxicity mechanisms, they have been rarely reviewed. In this report, we discussed the structure-activity relationships （SARs） involved in GOinduced bacterial killing and the MIEs including redox reaction with biomolecules, mechanical destruction of membranes and catalysis of extracellular metabolites. Furthermore, we summarized the clinical or commercial applications of GO-based antibacterial products and discussed their biosafety in mammal. Finally, we reviewed the remaining challenges in GO for antibacterial applications, which may offer new insights for the development of nano antibacterial studies.
