The environmental presence of decabromodiphenyl ether(BDE-209),which is toxic to the male reproductive system,is *** current study investigated its mechanism of toxicity in *** results showed,that BDE-209 induced DNA damage,decreased the expression of the promoter of meiosis spermatogenesis-and oogenesis-specific basic helix-loop-helix 1(Sohlh1),meiosis related-factors Lethal(3)malignant brain tumor like 2(L3MBTL2),PIWI-like protein 2(MILI),Cyclin-dependent kinase 2(CDK2),Cyclin A,synaptonemal complex protein 1(SYCP1)and synaptonemal complex protein 3(SYCP3),and caused spermatogenic cell apoptosis,resulting in a decrease in sperm quantity and ***,BDE-209 downregulated the levels of anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome(APC/C),increased the expression of PIWI-like protein 1(MIWI)in the cytoplasm of elongating spermatids,and decreased the nuclear levels of RING finger protein 8(RNF8),ubiquitinated(ub)-H2A/ub-H2B,and Protamine 1(PRM1)/Protamine 2(PRM2),while increasing H2A/H2B nuclear levels in *** reproductive toxicity was persistent for 50 days following the withdrawal of BDE-209 *** results suggested that BDE-209 inhibits the initiation of meiosis by decreasing the expression of ***,the reduced expression of L3MBTL2 inhibited the formation of chromosomal synaptonemal complexes by depressing the expression of meiosis regulators affecting the meiotic progression and also inhibited histone ubiquitination preventing the replacement of histones by protamines,by preventing RNF8 from entering nuclei,which affected the evolution of spermatids into mature sperm.

Diversity and interactions of lichen mycobionts and photobionts in the Fildes Region, King George Island,maritime Antarctica

Lichens, as dual organisms comprising a major mycobiont and a major photobiont, exhibit remarkable survival capabilities in extreme conditions, such as those found in Antarctica. Despite their adaptability, the diversity and distribution of lichen photobionts in the ice-free areas of maritime Antarctica remain less understood compared to their mycobiont *** our study, we investigated the diversity of both lichen mycobionts and photobionts in 56 samples collected from the Fildes Region on King George Island, maritime Antarctica. Through sequencing of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer regions and subsequent phylogenetic analysis, we examined the relationships and association patterns between mycobionts and photobionts. Our findings revealed 19 taxa of lichen mycobionts across 13 families and seven orders, along with nine photobiont species within the class Trebouxiophyceae. These photobionts encompassed six Trebouxia species, one Asterochloris species,one Chloroidium species, and one Stichococcus species. In particular, a new Trebouxia lineage(Trebouxia sp. OTU D08) and a new Chloroidium lineage were found. The analysis indicated that many mycobionts could be associated with multiple photobiont species, a pattern also observed among the photobionts. These results contribute significantly to our understanding of the complex diversity of lichen mycobionts and photobionts in the ice-free areas of maritime Antarctica.

Efficacy and safety of traditional chinese medicine external interventions in juvenile myopia: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:Myopia is a common refractive error that is increasingly prevalent amongst young *** and controlling myopia is crucial due to its association with several complications such as myopic macular degeneration,glaucoma,and retinal ***:The aim of this study is to systematically evaluate the efficacy of external chinese medicine therapies in the treatment of adolescent ***:We performed a systematic search of the chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),PubMed,the Cochrane Library,Science Direct,WanFang,the Weipu Database(VIP),China Biology Medicine(CMB),Web of Science(WOS),Medline,Clinical Trials,the chinese Science Citation Database(CSCD),and the Bailian Yun Library databases from January 2012 to December 2022 to identify the randomized control trials(RCTs)that compared traditional chinese medicine(TCM)external therapies with conventional therapies for the treatment of juvenile *** independent reviewers conducted the screening process,data extraction,and quality assessment.A meta-analysis was then ***:A total of 1735 relevant articles were *** included 38 RCTs involving 3680 patients and 7250 eyes that used TCM external therapies for the intervention of juvenile *** results of the metaanalysis showed that the efficacy of TCM external therapies in preventing and controlling myopia was statistically significant compared with conventional therapies[odds ratio(OR)=3.72,95%CI(2.87,4.83),P<0.01],and a funnel plot showed the basic *** meta-analysis results showed that compared with conventional therapies,TCM external therapies had statistically significant effects on the spherical equivalent[weighted mean difference(WMD)=0.22,95%CI(0.16,0.27),P<0.01],visual acuity[WMD=0.09,95%CI(0.07,0.12),P<0.01],and axial length[standardized mean difference(SMD)=0.19,95%CI(0.07,0.31),P<0.01].Conclusion:Results showed that TCM external therapies can be an effective intervention in prev

Podostemaceae(riverweed family),one of the largest aquatic plant families in the world,comprises about 350 species in 51 genera placed in three subfamilies,Podostemoideae,Weddellinoideae,and Tristichoideae(Koi et al.,2022).Most Podostemaceae genera(~38)are monotypic or oligotypic,with a high level of endemism(Koi et al.,2018,2022).Members of Podostemaceae adhere to rocks in fast-flowing rivers,streams,or waterfalls in the subtropics and tropics(Koi et al.,2018).As an adaptation to fastrunning currents,the morphological structure of river-weeds tends to be extremely reduced,including a loss or reduction of primary shoots or roots(Koi and Kato,2007).The vegetative mass of these plants resembles lichens or bryophytes,and are thus known commonly as“dream bryophytes”(Philbrick and Retana,1998).Podostemaceae plants flower when the water level drops during the dry *** recent years,anthropogenic factors and climate change have severely affected river weed habitats,decreasing populations of these plants.

Prevalence and influencing factors of social alienation among elderly patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer

Introduction:Newer skin tests,including the ESAT6-CFP10(EC)skin test,were recommended for diagnosing Mycobacterium tuberculosis(***)***,no data exist assessing the diagnostic performance of the EC skin test among foreign students with different skin ***:A cohort study at Nanjing medical University screened incoming foreign *** EC skin test was used to assess for *** infection,and results were read at 24,48,72,and 96-hours ***:Among 96 participants,*** infection rates at 24,48,72,and 96-hours post-injection were 3.13%,7.29%,13.54%,and 9.38%,*** infection rates were lower among individuals with darker skin tones,the difference was not statistically significant(P=0.186),and variations were consistent across different measurement *** analysis revealed 5.3%in the continuousincreasing group,86.5%in the low-stable group,and 5.2%in the elevated-decreasing ***,participants in the elevated-decreasing group had lighter skin tones,with trajectory patterns consistent across different skin ***:The EC skin test is safe,and redness diameter is a more reliable indicator than *** should be collected within 48 to 72 hours,with verification at 72 hours crucial if initial results are ***,skin color does not affect EC skin test outcomes.
