Cytochromes P450 s(CYPs) are terminal enzymes in CYP dependent monooxygenases, which constitute a superfamily of enzymes catalysing the metabolism of both endogenous and exogenous substances. One of their main tasks is to facilitate the excretion of these substances and eliminate their toxicities in most phase 1 reactions. Endogenous substrates of CYPs include steroids, bile acids, eicosanoids, cholesterol, vitamin d and neurotransmitters. About 80% of currently used drugs and environmental chemicals comprise exogenous substrates for CYPs. Genetic polymorphisms of CYPs may affect the enzyme functions and have been reported to be associated with various diseases and adverse drug reactions among different populations. In this review, we discuss the role of some critical CYP isoforms(CYP1 A1, CYP2 d6, CYP2 J2, CYP2 R1,CYP3 A5, CYP3 A7, CYP4 F3, CYP24 A1, CYP26 B1 and CYP27 B1) in the pathogenesis or aetiology of ulcerative colitis concerning gene polymorphisms. In addition, their significance in metabolism concerning ulcerative colitis in patients is also discussed showing a clear underestimation in genetic studies performed so far.

Germ cell cancers are the most common solid tumors among men between 15 and 40 ***-seminomatous germ cell tumors(NSGCTs)represent a unique and exclusive cohort of germ cell tumor ***-seminoma can harbor different histologic *** most commonly found histologies are embryonal cell cancer,teratoma,yolk sack tumor and choriocarcinoma,as well as teratocarcinoma and seminoma,in combination with non-seminomatous germ cell tumors histologic *** clinical definition of stage I nonseminoma is the absence of metastatic lesions on imaging and normal tumor *** cure rate for clinical stage I NSGCT is 99%and this can be achieved by three therapeutic strategies:Active surveillance with treatment at the time of relapse,retroperitoneal lymph node dissection or adjuvant *** balancing of these various strategies should always be based on an individual risk profile of NGSCG patient depending on the lymphovascular invasion of the tumor.

differentiation processes in the primary root meristem are controlled by several signaling pathways that are regulated by phytohormones or by secreted peptides. Long-term maintenance of an active root meristem requires that the generation of new stem cells and the loss of these from the meristem due to differentiation are precisely coordinated. Via phenotypic and large-scale transcriptome analyses of mutants, we show that the signaling peptide CLE40 and the recep- tor proteins CLV2 and CRN act in two genetically separable pathways that antagonistically regulate cell differentiation in the proximal root meristem. CLE40 inhibits cell differentiation throughout the primary root meristem by controlling genes with roles in abscisic acid, auxin, and cytokinin signaling. CRN and CLV2 jointly control target genes that promote cell differentiation specifically in the transition zone of the proximal root meristem. While CRN and CLV2 are not acting in the CLE40 signaling pathway under normal growth conditions, both proteins are required when the levels of CLE40 or related CLE peptides increase. We show here that two antagonistically acting pathways controlling root meristem differentiation can be activated by the same peptide in a dosage-dependent manner.

From the cultured filtrates of fungus Aspergillus versicolor, isolated from marine sponge Xestospongia exigua, four novel secondary metabolites, namely aspergillone 1, aspergillodiol 2, aspergillol 3 and 12-acetyl-aspergillol 4, have been isolated by column chromatographic separation. The structures of all the new compounds are established on the basis of extensive 2d NMR spectroscopy in conjugation with MS, UV spectral analysis. The basic structure pattern of those compounds possessed an hydroindenoisopyran nucleus.

Background:Early detection and treatment of neuropathy in leprosy is important to prevent disabilities.A recent study showed that the Nerve Conduction Studies(NCS)and Warm detection Thresholds(WdT)tests can detect leprosy neuropathy the *** two tests are not practical under field conditions,however,because they require climate-controlled rooms and highly trained staff and are *** assessed the usefulness of alternative test methods and their sensitivity and specificity to detect neuropathy at an early ***:Through a literature search we identified five alternative devices that appeared user-friendly,more affordable,portable and/or battery-operated:the Neuropad^(■),Vibratip^(TM),NC-Stat^(■)dPNCheck^(TM),NeuroQuick and the Thermal Sensibility Tester(TST),assessing respectively sweat function,vibration sensation,nerve conduction,cold sensation and warm *** leprosy patients in Bangladesh,the posterior tibial and sural nerves that tested normal for the monofilament test and voluntary muscle test were assessed with the NCS and WdT as reference standard *** alternative devices were then tested on 94 nerves with abnormal WdT and/or NCS results and on 94 unaffected *** and specificity were the main ***:The NeuroQuick and the TST showed very good sensitivity and *** the sural nerve,the NeuroQuick had both a sensitivity and a specificity of 86%.The TST had a sensitivity of 83%and a specificity of 82%.Both the NC-Stat^(■)dPNCheck^(TM)and Vibratip^(TM)had a high specificity(88%and 100%),but a low sensitivity(16%and 0%).On the posterior tibial nerve,the NeuroQuick and the TST also showed good sensitivity,but the sensitivity was lower than for the sural *** Neuropad^(■)had a sensitivity of 56%and a specificity of 61%.Conclusions:The NeuroQuick and TST are good candidates for further field-testing for reliability and *** feasibility of production on a larger scale should be exami

Among young men between the ages of 15 and 40 years,germ cell cancer is the most common solid tumor[1].The worldwide incidence of germ cell cancer is 70000 *** to all solid tumors of men,germ cell cancer accounts for 1%of all male ***,the mortality of this rare tumor entity is about 13%since 9507 patients died worldwide of germ cell *** improvement in survival of germ cell cancer patients is due to a multimodal treatment of germ cell cancer including cisplatin-based chemotherapy and surgery leading to higher cure-rates even in advanced stages[1],whereas the increasing incidence of germ cell cancers cannot be thoroughly *** this article we review the current indications for surgery in metastatic germ cell cancers,highlight the strength and weaknesses of techniques and indications and raise the question how to improve surgical treatment in metastatic germ cell cancer.

Cardiovascular fitness of divers is overwhelmingly performed using bicycle ergometry.A more sport-specific alternative presents fit2dive,an underwater spiroergometry *** of this exploratory study:using fit2dive to investigate the diagnostic value of measures of heart rate variability(HRV)after markedly increasing physical *** scuba divers employed the fit2dive system and increased fin-swimming speed until *** gas consumption(VE)and heart rate(HR)were measured.A three-lead ECG was recorded to analyze for time and frequency domain *** increased from 16.5±6.5 to 68.3±26.6 L/*** increased from 96±13 beats/min(mean±Sd)at rest to 170±14 beats/min before *** variability(SdNN:132±42 vs.54±17 ms)decreased along with two measures of parasympathetic activity(RMSSd:59±31 vs.24±16 ms;pNN50:22%±12%vs.3%±3%).Measures from the frequency domain decreased[low frequency(LF):3167±2651 vs.778±705 ms_(2)]or remained unaltered[high frequency(HF):885±652 vs.431±463 ms^(2)].Thus,LF/HF decreased from 4.3±2.3 to 2.5±*** sports-specific fit2dive can help assessing diving fitness by employing HRV ***,this study supports the view that these measures much depend on ***,HRV measures regarding altered autonomic control during exercise will lead to serious misinterpretation:as HR increases,variability decreases.
