Study on the preservation effects of the amputated forelimb by machine perfusion at physiological temperature

Purpose:Ischemia and hypoxia are the main factors limiting limb replantation and transplantation.Static cold storage(SCS),a common preservation method for tissues and organs,can only prolong limb ischemia time to 4-6 h.The normothermic machine perfusion(NMP)is a promising method for the preservation of tissues and organs,which can extend the preservation time in vitro by providing continuous oxygen and nutrients.This study aimed to evaluate the difference in the efficacy of the 2 limb preservation methods.Methods:The 6 forelimbs from beagle dogs were divided into 2 groups.In the SCS group(n=3),the limbs were preserved in a sterile refrigerator at 4°C for 24 h,and in the NMP group(n=3),the perfusate prepared with autologous blood was used for the oxygenated machine perfusion at physiological temperature for 24 h,and the solution was changed every 6 h.The effects of limb storage were evaluated by weight gain,perfusate biochemical analysis,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,and histological analysis.All statistical analyses and graphs were performed using GraphPad Prism 9.0 one-way or two-way analysis of variance.The p value of less than 0.05 was considered to indicate statistical significance.Results:In the NMP group,the weight gained percentage was 11.72%±4.06%;the hypoxia-inducible factor-1αcontents showed no significant changes;the shape of muscle fibers was normal;the gap between muscle fibers slightly increased,showing the intercellular distance of(30.19±2.83)μm;and the vascularα-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA)contents were lower than those in the normal blood vessels.The creatine kinase level in the perfusate of the NMP group increased from the beginning of perfusion,decreased after each perfusate change,and remained stable at the end of perfusion showing a peak level of 4097.6 U/L.The lactate dehydrogenase level of the NMP group increased near the end of perfusion and reached the peak level of 374.4 U/L.In the SCS group,the percentage of weight gain was 0.18%±0.10%,and the contents of hypoxia-inducible factor-1αin

Professor Shizhu Wen,the winner of the 2015 Tribology Gold Medal,passed away due to illness on November 3,2023,at the age of 91.He was a professor of Tsinghua University,an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,and the Honorary President of the Chinese Tribology Institute(CTI)from 1997 to 2007.Professor Wen was born in 1932 in Jiangxi Province of China and graduated from Tsinghua University in 1955,where he was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Gold Medal and then remained as an assistant professor at the University.Professor Wen was promoted to full professor in 1984.He had undertaken tribology research at the Imperial College London in 1979 and 1991.In 1985,he presided over the establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Tribology(SKLT)of Tsinghua University and served as the first director of the SKLT.

Feature extraction for machine learning-based intrusion detection in IoT networks

A large number of network security breaches in IoT networks have demonstrated the unreliability of current Network Intrusion Detection Systems(NIDSs).Consequently,network interruptions and loss of sensitive data have occurred,which led to an active research area for improving NIDS technologies.In an analysis of related works,it was observed that most researchers aim to obtain better classification results by using a set of untried combinations of Feature Reduction(FR)and Machine Learning(ML)techniques on NIDS datasets.However,these datasets are different in feature sets,attack types,and network design.Therefore,this paper aims to discover whether these techniques can be generalised across various datasets.Six ML models are utilised:a Deep Feed Forward(DFF),Convolutional Neural Network(CNN),Recurrent Neural Network(RNN),Decision Tree(DT),Logistic Regression(LR),and Naive Bayes(NB).The accuracy of three Feature Extraction(FE)algorithms is detected;Principal Component Analysis(PCA),Auto-encoder(AE),and Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA),are evaluated using three benchmark datasets:UNSW-NB15,ToN-IoT and CSE-CIC-IDS2018.Although PCA and AE algorithms have been widely used,the determination of their optimal number of extracted dimensions has been overlooked.The results indicate that no clear FE method or ML model can achieve the best scores for all datasets.The optimal number of extracted dimensions has been identified for each dataset,and LDA degrades the performance of the ML models on two datasets.The variance is used to analyse the extracted dimensions of LDA and PCA.Finally,this paper concludes that the choice of datasets significantly alters the performance of the applied techniques.We believe that a universal(benchmark)feature set is needed to facilitate further advancement and progress of research in this field.

Due to the benefits of the high sensitivity,real-time response,no labeling requirement,and good selectivity,fiber optic sensors based on surface plasmon resonance(SPR)have gained popularity in biochemical sensing in recent years.The current research on such sensors is hot in enhancing sensitivity,improving detection accuracy,and achieving the detection of biochemical molecules.The goal of this work is to present a thorough overview of recent developments in the optical fiber SPR biosensor research.Firstly,it explores the basic principles and sensing structures of optical fiber SPR biosensors,focusing on four aspects.Subsequently,this paper introduces three fiber optic surface plasmon biosensors:SPR,localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR),and long-range surface plasmon resonance(LRSPR).Each concept is explained from the perspective of the basic principles of fiber optic SPR biosensors.Furthermore,a classification of fiber optic SPR biosensors in health monitoring,food safety,environmental monitoring,marine detection,and other applications is introduced and analyzed.Eventually,this paper summarizes the current research directions of SPR biosensors.Meanwhile,it provides a prospective outlook on how fiber optic SPR sensors will develop in the future.

Genesis of ultra-deep dolostone and controlling factors of largescale reservoir:A case study of the Sinian Dengying Formation and the Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation in the Sichuan Basin

This paper investigates the origin of ultra-deep dolostone and the factors influencing large-scale dolostone reservoirs,focusing on the Sinian Dengying Formation and the Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation in the Sichuan Basin.The study involves petrology,microscale X-ray diffraction,trace element analysis,and C-O-Sr-Mg isotope experiments to provide a detailed analysis.The research findings indicate that the Dengying and Longwangmiao formations comprise six types of matrix dolostone and four types of cement.The Dengying Formation,which developed under a sedimentary background of a restricted platform,contains special microbial and microcrystalline dolostones.The dolomite grains are small(30μm),high order degree(Min=0.7),small unit cell parameters,high Na content(Max=432 ppm),and low Fe and Mn content.The δ^(2

The development of communication technology will promote the application of Internet of Things,and Beyond 5G will become a new technology promoter.At the same time,Beyond 5G will become one of the important supports for the development of edge computing technology.This paper proposes a communication task allocation algorithm based on deep reinforcement learning for vehicle-to-pedestrian communication scenarios in edge computing.Through trial and error learning of agent,the optimal spectrum and power can be determined for transmission without global information,so as to balance the communication between vehicle-to-pedestrian and vehicle-to-infrastructure.The results show that the agent can effectively improve vehicle-to-infrastructure communication rate as well as meeting the delay constraints on the vehicle-to-pedestrian link.

SERS-tag techology in food safety and detection:sensing from the"fingerprint"region to the"biological-silent"region

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)offers many advantages for the fast and sensitive detection of specific compounds,metal ions or pathogens in foods,motivating to its increasing utilization in food safety.SERS-tags,typically constructed using signal enhanced substrate,Raman reporter molecules,a biocompatible protective layer and a specific recognition element,provide a powerful tool for the analysis of food hazards.This article reviews recent progress in the development of SERS-tags for food safety assessment covering SERS-tags with characteristic peaks in the“fingerprint”region(800-1800 cm-1)and the“biological-silent”region(1800-2800 cm-1).Following a brief description of SERS substrates,the design,synthesis and applications of SERS-tag are explored in detail.The application of SERS-tags technology for the detection of microorganisms,pesticides and antibiotics are then investigated.Finally,the prospects of using SERS-tag in real-world food safety analysis are critically discussed.

序列近似整数规划方法通过求解一系列可分离的近似整数规划子问题成功求解多类大规模拓扑优化问题.然而,这些近似子问题的解析求解依靠正则松弛算法,正则松弛算法要求子问题必须由二次或线性的目标函数以及线性的约束函数构成.同时,序列近似整数规划方法依赖于体分比下降策略,这使得其难以处理不包含体分比约束的拓扑优化问题.为进一步地完善序列近似整数规划算法,我们受移动渐近线方法的启发,引入经典的序列保守近似规划,以获得一系列可行性稳步提升的设计,这个新方法称作序列保守近似整数规划算法.新方法会产生一系列包含倒数设计变量的非线性的近似整数规划子问题,并通过调整渐近线控制子问题的保守性。由于正则松弛算法不能求解非线性子问题,一种基于KKT(Karush-Kuhn-Tucker)条件的简单的设计变量更新准则被给出.基于上述思想,序列保守近似整数规划算法不依靠体分比约束等线性约束就可以获得稳定的优化过程,由此可以用来求解复杂的离散变量拓扑优化问题.多类不同需求的拓扑优化问题被解决,包括考虑等式约束及非等式约束的、以及考虑有效的及无效的体分比约束的问题.数值结果证明,由于保守性的引入,整个优化收敛进程可以自适应地调节无需额外的结构分析.

Biochemical sensors have important applications in biology,chemistry,and medicine.Nevertheless,many biochemical sensors are hampered by intricate techniques,cumbersome procedures,and the need for labeling.In the past two decades,it has been discovered that liquid crystals can be used to achieve the optical amplification of biological interactions.By modifying recognition molecules,a variety of label-free biochemical sensors can be created.Consequently,biochemical sensors based on the amplification of liquid crystals have become one of the most promising sensors.This paper describes in detail the optical sensing principle of liquid crystals,sensing devices,and optical detection technologies.Meanwhile,the latest research findings are elucidated.Finally,the challenges and future research directions are discussed.

Productivity in the Southern Ocean Antarctic Zone during the northern Hemisphere Glaciation(NHG)and its link to atmospheric pCO_(2)

A decrease in atmospheric CO_(2)partial pressure(pCO_(2))is considered an important prerequisite for the onset and intensification of northern Hemisphere Glaciation(NHG).However,how the ocean sequestered missing CO_(2)during the NHG is still uncertain.Changes in surface productivity and deep ventilation in the Southern Ocean(SO)have been proposed to explain the variations in atmospheric pCO_(2)over the last eight glacial cycles,but it is unclear whether these mechanisms contributed to the decrease in atmospheric pCO_(2)during the NHG.Using titanium-normalized contents and mass accumulation rates of biogenic opal and total organic carbon from the International Ocean Discovery Program(IODP)Expedition 374 Site U1524A,we reconstruct the productivity in the Ross Sea,Antarctica,from 3.3 Ma to 2.4 Ma.The productivity records exhibit a long-term decreasing trend and several distinct phased evolutionary features.Specifically,the local productivity fluctuated dramatically during 3.3-3.0 Ma,decreased gradually during 3.0-2.6 Ma,and remained relatively constant during 2.6-2.4 Ma.By comparing productivity with its potential influences,we infer that the phased and long-term evolutions of productivity were mainly controlled by changes in deep ocean ventilation.Sea ice expansion might have decreased productivity during 3.3-3.0 Ma by light attenuation.Changes in eolian dust input have little effect on productivity.Further analysis revealed no coupling linkage between productivity and atmospheric pCO_(2),indicating that the productivity in the SO Antarctic Zone(AZ)was not the main factor controlling the atmospheric CO_(2)decrease during the NHG.To improve our understanding of the role of SO processes in the NHG,further studies should focus on the potential influences of deep ocean ventilation on atmospheric pCO_(2)in the AZ,and similar studies should also be extended to the sea area in the Subantarctic Zone.
