DOPPLER ULTRASONIC DIAGNOSIS FOR DEEP VENOUS THROMBOSIS OF LOWER LIMBS

Seventy-one patients with 80 lower limbs clinically suspected of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) were investigated by both Doppler ultrasound and venography. Sixty-seven lower limbs demonstrated by venography to have DVT, in 5 the thrombus was confined to the calf, and all were detected by the Doppler ultrasound. In 62 limbs thrombus extended into the popliteal and more proximal veins, the Doppler ultrasound detected 61 of them, a sensitivity of 98%.Venography showed a deep venous system without any evidence of thrombosis in 13, the Dopplar findings were normal in all of the 13 lower limbs, a specificity of 100%. We found that the examination of the popliteal vein with patient in a semi-lateral prone position was important in detecting the presence of thrombosis in popliteal and more proximal vein.

In 1981, a World Health Organization (WHO)working group on cardiovascular disease (CVD) proposed an international long-term prospective study of trends and determinants of CVD (MONICA project). Chinese government designated the Beijing heart, lung and Blood Vessel Medical Center(BHLBC) to be a collaborating unit to this study in 1982. Our study has been carried out in Beijing and named as Sino-MONICA-Beijing. After a pilot study for 2 years, the project formally started on January 1, 1984. This paper presents the organization and methodology of the study, with results of CVD monitoring for 1983-1985. Sources of case-finding used in community surveillance for CVD are discussed in detail. Preliminary experience has shown that the *** study is a well standardized project of long-term surveillance of CVD in the communities of Beijing.

Background Pro-protein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 （PCSK9） is a secreted protein that influences plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol （LDL-C）. Both oxidized LDL and tissue factor （TF） contributed to the development of prothrombofic state. The pre- sent study aims to explore the relationship between plasma level of PCSK9 and that of TF in patient with coronary artery disease （CAD）. Methods From July 2013 to March 2014, we enrolled 197 consecutive patients who underwent coronary angiography because of suspected CAD at Beijing Anzhen Hospital in this study. All patients had no history of using lipid-lowering medication. Of these 197 patients （1B 1 male and 66 female, mean age 56.9 ± 11.8 years）, 81 had angiographically diagnosed CAD. Clinical data were collected. Plasma PCSK9 and TF were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）. Levels of plasma PCSK9 and TF were compared and their correlation analyzed among different patient groups. Results Both plasma levels of PCSK9 （279.8 ± 60.4μg/L vs. 216.5 ± 45.3μg/L, P 〈 0.01） and TF （156.4 ± 26.6 μg/mL vs. 112.1 ± 38.3 μg/L, P 〈 0.01） were significantly higher in patients with CAD, as compared with those with- out CAD. Correlation analysis showed plasma level of PCSK9 was significantly correlated with that of TF in both patients with and without CAD. However, multivariate regression analysis after adjustment for age, gender, smoking, alcohol, hypertension and hyperlipidemia showed that only in CAD patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, there was significant positive correlation between plasma levels of PCSK9 and TF （β = 0.353, P 〈 0.01）. Coneluslons The plasma level of PCSK9 is independently and positively associated with that of TF in CAD patients with diabetes mellitus, but not in those without diabetes mellitus. Further study is needed to investigate the underlying mechanism.

Methylated Micrococcus luteus DNA (M. L. DNA) in which the DNA methylation level was 2.39% was prepared by using Hhal DNA methylase. (The natural M. L. DNA is completely unmethylated.) The [θ]_(275) value of M. L. DNA was decreased and the —[θ]_(220-250) value was increased with increasing concentration of MgC1_2. The UV spectra of M. L. DNA at different concentration of MgCl_2 showed that a hypochromisity happens at 260nm with increasing concentration of MgC1_2. The heat-releasing of M. L. DNA also increased with increasing concentration of MgC1_2. A11 these results showed that the M. L. DNA molecules tend to shrink in space, The difference between methylated DNA and unmethylated DNA was compared. The sensitivity of methylated DNA to MgC1_2 is 40—70 fold higher than that of the unmethylated M. L. DNA.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of a mixture of five herbal extracts(FT-5) on insulin resistance, glucose/lipid metabolism, hepatic steatosis, and to investigate whether the combination of FT-5 and pioglitazone would provide a robust effect on diabetes treatment, while may minimize undesirable side-effects of pioglitazone in diabetic Ay gene(KKAy)***: Seven-week-old KKAy mice were randomly divided into five groups: control(CON)group, FT-5(2.0 g/kg) group, pioglitazone(20 mg/kg)(PIO) group, pioglitazone(20 mg/kg) + FT-5(2.0 g/kg)(P + F) group. Age-matched C57 BL/6 J micewere used as the control group. After seven weeks of continuous intragastric administration of medication, the glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism of KKAy mice were evaluated by assessing the fasting blood glucose(FBG), oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT), fasting serum insulin(FINS), insulin tolerance test(ITT), homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR), total cholesterol(TC), total triglycerides(TG), and free fatty acids(FFA) in plasma and *** and hepatic adiponectin were measured via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Genes related to adipogenesis and lipolysis in white adipose tissues(WAT) and liver were examined by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Lipid metabolism-related protein expression in the liver of KKAy mice were detected by Western ***: PIO treatment remarkably improved insulin resistance. However, it also showed substantial side effects. FT-5 group exhibited no significant decrease in serum glucose. However, it reduced fasting plasma TG levels and improved hepatic steatosis of KKAy mice. P + F group showed improved insulin resistance and similar body weight gain, as compared with control group. Epidemiological studies have found that individuals with diabetes mellitus（DM） display an increased susceptibility for adverse cardiovascular outcomes when exposed to air *** study was conducted to explore the potential mechanism linking ambient fine particles（PM2.5） and heart injury in a Type 2 DM（T2DM） animal model. The KKay mouse, an animal model of T2DM, was exposed to concentrated ambient PM2.5 or filtered air for 8 weeks via a versatile aerosol exposure and concentrator system. Simultaneously, an inhibitor of IκB kinase-2（IKK-a）（IMD-0354）, which is a blocker of nuclear factor κB（NF-κB）nuclear translocation, was administrated by intracerebroventricular injection（ICV） to regulate the NF-êB pathway. The results showed that ambient PM2.5 induced the increase of, NF-êB, cyclooxygenase-2（COX-2） and mitogen activated protein kinase（MAPK） expression in cardiac tissue, and that IMD-0354 could alleviate the inflammatory injury. The results suggested that the NF-êB pathway plays an important role in mediating the PM2.5-induced cardiovascular injury in the T2DM model. Inhibiting NFκB may be a therapeutic option in air-pollution-exacerbated cardiovascular injury in diabetes mellitus.
