Design of Resilient Sensor Networks Balancing Resilience and Efficiency

In recent years,the notion of resilience has been developed and applied in many technical areas,becoming exceptionally pertinent to disaster risk science.During a disaster situation,accurate sensing information is the key to efficient recovery efforts.In general,resilience aims to minimize the impact of disruptions to systems through the fast recovery of critical functionality,but resilient design may require redundancy and could increase costs.In this article,we describe a method based on binary linear programming for sensor network design balancing efficiency with resilience.The application of the developed framework is demonstrated for the case of interior building surveillance utilizing infrared sensors in both twoand three-dimensional spaces.The method provides optimal sensor placement,taking into account critical functionality and a desired level of resilience and considering sensor type and availability.The problem formulation,resilience requirements,and application of the optimization algorithm are described in detail.Analysis of sensor locations with and without resilience requirements shows that resilient configuration requires redundancy in number of sensors and their intelligent placement.Both tasks are successfully solved by the described method,which can be applied to strengthen the resilience of sensor networks by design.The proposed methodology is suitable for large-scale optimization problems with many sensors and extensive coverage areas.

Vitamin A deficiency suppresses CEACAM1 to impair colonic epithelial barrier function via downregulating microbial-derived short-chain fatty acids

Vitamin A (VA) plays an essential role in modulating both the gut microbiota and gut barrier function.Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs),as metabolites of the gut microbiota,protect the physiological intestinal barrier;however,they are compromised when VA is deficient.Thus,there is an urgent need to understand how and which SCFAs modulate colonic epithelial barrier integrity in VA deficiency (VAD).Herein,compared with normal VA rats (VAN),at the beginning of pregnancy,we confirmed that the colonic desmosome junction was impaired in the VAD group,and the amounts of acetate,propionate,and butyrate declined because of the decreased abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria (Romboutsia ,Collinsella ,and Allobaculum ).The differentially expressed genes correlated with the gut barrier and the histone deacetylase complex between the VAD and VAN groups were enriched by RNA sequencing.In the VAD group,the expression levels of colonic CEA cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1) were down-regulated,and the levels of histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) and HDAC3 were up-regulated.Intriguingly,the above changes in the VAD groups were rescued by VA supplementation in the early postnatal period.Further study indicated that in Caco-2 cells,butyrate treatment significantly repressed the enrichment of HDAC3 on the promoter of the CEACAM1 gene to induce its expression.Our findings support that butyrate intervention can alleviate the impairment of colonic barrier function caused by VAD,and timely postnatal VA intervention may reverse the damage caused by VAD on gut barrier integrity during pregnancy.

Cardiac energy metabolism disorder mediated by energy substrate imbalance and mitochondrial damage upon tebuconazole exposure

Tebuconazole exposure has been described as an increasing hazard to human health.An increasing number of recent studies have shown a positive association between tebuconazole exposure and cardiovascular disease risk,which is characterized by the reduction of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)synthesis.However,researches on the damage of tebuconazole exposure to energy metabolism and the related molecular mechanisms are limited.In the present study,male C57BL/6 mice were treated with tebuconazole at different low concentrations for 4 weeks.The results indicated that tebuconazole could accumulate in the heart and further induce the decrease of ATP content in the mouse heart.Importantly,tebuconazole induced an obvious shift in substrate utilization of fatty acid and glucose by disrupting their corresponding transporters(GLUT1,GLUT4,CD36,FABP3 and FATP1)expression,and significantly repressed the expression of mitochondrial biogenesis(Gabpa and Tfam)and oxidative phosphorylation(CS,Ndufa4,Sdhb,Cox5a and Atp5b)related genes in a dosedependent manner.Further investigation revealed that these alterations were related to the IRS1/AKT and PPARγ/RXRαpathways.These findings contribute to a better understanding of triazole fungicide-induced cardiovascular disease by revealing the key indicators associated with this phenomenon.

Determination of the standardized ileal digestible calcium requirement of Ross broilers from hatch to day 14 post-hatch

An experiment was conducted to determine the standardized ileal digestible (SID) calcium requirement of fast-growing broilers from hatch to d 14 post-hatch.Ross 308 (n=360) male broilers were obtained on day of hatch and allocated to 1 of 5 treatments in battery cages.There were 6 birds per cage and 12 pens per treatment.Four treatments were formulated to contain 0.60%,0.46%,0.32% or 0.18% SID Ca.The final treatment was formulated using total Ca to meet or exceed all nutrient requirements,including 0.90% total Ca and 0.49% non-phytate P (nPP),using the same ingredients.This treatment was the reference diet for comparison and validation of the SID Ca diets.Birds and feed were weighed at placement and on d 14.Tibias and ileal contents were obtained on d 14 and excreta was collected per pen and pooled on d 14.Data were analyzed using JMP Pro and requirements were estimated using 3different non-linear regression models.Increasing the SID Ca content in the diet from 0.18% to 0.60% improved (quadratic,P<0.05) body weight gain and mortality corrected feed conversion ratio (mFCR).The estimated SID Ca requirement to optimize gain or m FCR was between 0.39% and 0.52%.Tibia ash percent and weight increased (quadratic,P<0.05) as SID Ca content in the diet increased and the estimated SID Ca requirement was between 0.32% and 0.58%.Phosphorus utilization was improved in birds fed diets formulated using SID Ca compared with birds fed the reference diet.In conclusion,the SID Ca requirement of fast-growing broilers from hatch to d 14 was estimated between 0.534% and 0.398% when quadratic,straight-broken line,or quadratic-broken line regressions were used.These results agree with previously published data evaluating the SID Ca requirement of fast-growth broilers from hatch to d 10.

Postoperativeinte rictalepil eptiform discharges predict seizure recurrence after antiepileptic drug withdrawal regardless of concordance with surgical site

Objective The study aimed to explore the association between the site of interictal epileptic discharges(IEDs)on postoperative electroencephalogram(EEG)and seizure recurrence after antiepileptic drug(AED)withdrawal.The study hypothesizes that the concordance of IED sites with surgical sites indicates incomplete resection of epileptic focus,while non-concordance of IED sites with surgical sites indicates postoperative changes or cortical stimulation.The former has a higher risk of seizure recurrence.Methods We retrospectively analyzed the postoperative EEG pattern of 182 consecutive children who underwent resection surgery.To identify the risk factors for seizure recurrence,we compared the attributes of seizure recurred and seizure-free groups by univariate and multivariate analyses.AED tapering was standardized,involving a 25% reduction in the dose of a single type of AED every 2 weeks,independent of the presurgical AED load.Results We attempted AED withdrawal in 116(63.7%)children.Twenty-eight(24.1%)children experienced seizure recurrence during or after AED withdrawal.A greater number of AEDs used at the time of surgery(p=0.005),incomplete resection(p=0.001),and presence of IED on postoperative EEG(p=0.011)are predictors of seizurerecurrence.Thecompletenessof resectionand seizure recurrence after AED withdrawal were related to the presence of IED on the EEG,but not to the concordance of IED with surgical sites.Conclusion For children with abnormal EEG,the decision to discontinue AED should be made more cautiously,regardless of the relative location of the discharge site and the surgical site.

With the exploding prevalence of obesity,many children are at risk of developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.Using anthropometric and laboratory parameters,our study aimed to develop a model to quantitatively evaluate liver fat content(LFC)in children with obesity.Methods A well-characterized cohort of 181 children between 5 and 16 years of age were recruited to the study in the Endocrinology Department as the derivation cohort.The external validation cohort comprised 77 children.The assessment of liver fat content was performed using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy.Anthropometry and laboratory metrics were measured in all subjects.B-ultrasound examination was carried out in the external validation cohort.The Kruskal-Wallis test,Spearman bivariate correlation analyses,univariable linear regressions and multivariable linear regression were used to build the optimal predictive model.Results The model was based on indicators including alanine aminotransferase,homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance,triglycerides,waist circumference and Tanner stage.The adjusted R^(2)of the model was 0.589,which presented high sensitivity and specificity both in internal[sensitivity of 0.824,specificity of 0.900,area under curve(AUC)of 0.900 with a 95%confidence interval:0.783–1.000]and external validation(sensitivity of 0.918 and specificity of 0.821,AUC of 0.901 with a 95%confidence interval:0.818–0.984).Conclusions Our model based on five clinical indicators was simple,non-invasive,and inexpensive;it had high sensitivity and specificity in predicting LFC in children.Thus,it may be useful for identifying children with obesity who are at risk for developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Bispecific antibody‒drug conjugates(BsADCs)represent an innovative therapeutic category amalgamating the merits of antibody‒drug conjugates(ADCs)and bispecific antibodies(BsAbs).Positioned as the next-generation ADC approach,BsADCs hold promise for ameliorating extant clinical challenges associated with ADCs,particularly pertaining to issues such as poor internalization,off-target toxicity,and drug resistance.Presently,ten BsADCs are undergoing clinical trials,and initial findings underscore the imperative for ongoing refinement.This review initially delves into specific design considerations for BsADCs,encompassing target selection,antibody formats,and the linker–payload complex.Subsequent sections delineate the extant progress and challenges encountered by BsADCs,illustrated through pertinent case studies.The amalgamation of BsAbs with ADCs offers a prospective solution to prevailing clinical limitations of ADCs.Nevertheless,the symbiotic interplay among BsAb,linker,and payload necessitates further optimizations and coordination beyond a simplistic“1+1”to effectively surmount the extant challenges facing the BsADC domain.

Active disturbance rejection distributed secondary control for DC microgrids

A novel control scheme is presented to eliminate the negative effects of communication disturbances,which introduces active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)in the control strategy design to achieve the objectives of the restoration of the bus voltage and the sharing of the power even in the presence of disturbances and delays in communication.Simultaneously,its dynamic disturbance decoupling feature is used to realise the decoupling between power and voltage,so that the proposed controller only exchanges power information with its neighbours,reducing the communication burden and simplifying control structure.The control performance of the strategy is verified by employing steady-state analysis.The impact of controller parameters is studied by establishing a small signal model.Finally,both simulation cases and experimental tests prove the feasibility of this scheme.

Multimorbidity and mortality among older patients with coronary heart disease in Shenzhen,China

BACKGROUND The current understanding of the magnitude and consequences of multimorbidity in Chinese older adults with coronary heart disease(CHD)is insufficient.We aimed to assess the association and population-attributable fractions(PAFs)between multimorbidity and mortality among hospitalized older patients who were diagnosed with CHD in Shenzhen,China.METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study of older Chinese patients(aged≥65 years)who were diagnosed with CHD.Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the associations between multimorbidity and all-cause and cardiovascular disease(CVD)mortality.We also calculated the PAFs.RESULTS The study comprised 76,455 older hospitalized patients who were diagnosed with CHD between January 1,2016,and August 31,2022.Among them,70,217(91.9%)had multimorbidity,defined as the presence of at least one of the predefined 14 chronic conditions.Those with cancer,hemorrhagic stroke and chronic liver disease had the worst overall death risk,with adjusted HRs(95%CIs)of 4.05(3.77,4.38),2.22(1.94,2.53),and 1.85(1.63,2.11),respectively.For CVD mortality,the highest risk was observed for hemorrhagic stroke,ischemic stroke,and chronic kidney disease;the corresponding adjusted HRs(95%CIs)were 3.24(2.77,3.79),1.91(1.79,2.04),and 1.81(1.64,1.99),respectively.All-cause mortality was mostly attributable to cancer,heart failure and ischemic stroke,with PAFs of 11.8,10.2,and 9.1,respectively.As for CVD mortality,the leading PAFs were heart failure,ischemic stroke and diabetes;the corresponding PAFs were 18.0,15.7,and 6.1,respectively.CONCLUSIONS Multimorbidity was common and had a significant impact on mortality among older patients with CHD in Shenzhen,China.Cancer,heart failure,ischemic stroke and diabetes are the primary contributors to PAFs.Therefore,prioritizing improved treatment and management of these comorbidities is essential for the survival prognosis of CHD patients from a holistic public health perspective.
