BACKGROUND The features of gastric cancer based on the anatomic site remain unknown in northern China patients.AIM To analyze gastric cancer features and associated trends based on the anatomical site in northern China patients.METHODS This cross-sectional study used incident gastric cancer case data from 10 Peking University-affiliated hospitals(2014 to 2018).The clinical and prevailing local features were analyzed.RESULTS A total of 10709 patients were enrolled,including antral(42.97%),cardia(34.30%),and stomach body(18.41%)gastric cancer cases.Cancer in the cardia had the highest male:female ratio,proportion of elderly patients,and patients with complications,including hypertension,diabetes,cerebrovascular,and coronary diseases(P<0.001).gastric cancer involving the antrum showed the lowest proportion of patients from rural areas and accounted for the highest hospitalization rate and cost(each P<0.001).The proportion of patients with cancer involving the cardia increased with an increase in the number of gastroesophageal reflux disease cases during the same period(P<0.001).Multivariate analysis revealed that tumor location in the cardia increased the risk of inhospital mortality(P=0.046).Anatomical subsite was not linked to postoperative complications.CONCLUSION The features of gastric cancer based on the anatomical site differ between northern China and other regions,both globally and within the country.Social factors may account for these differences and should affect policy-making and clinical practice.

Purpose:This study compares doctor staffing level and the scale of medical education in China with those of other countries and proposes policy recommendations for future adjustments to the scale of China's medical education.Design/Approach/Methods:This study employs a literature review and descriptive analysis.Findings:China had 1.98 medical doctors per 1,000 people in 2018,ranking 85th out of the 193 member-states of the World health Organization(WHO).In 2017,China had I.99 practicing doctors per I,oo0 people,only ranking above Turkey(1.88)in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD)countries.China had only 10.28 medical graduates per 100,000 people placing in the bottom third of OECD countries.China's provision of 1.4 medical schools per IO million people was also significantly lower than the global average(3.9).However,the average number of students enrolled in medical schools(509)in China was significantly higher than the global average(160).Originality/Value:Although the scale of admission in undergraduate medical education must be expanded in China,this needs to be achieved while controlling the average number of medical students per school and reducing enrollment in low-quality medical schools.Furthermore,it is necessary to establish new medical schools while improving the operating level of existing ones.

In vivo observation of cerebral microcirculation after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage in mice

Acute brain injury caused by subarachnoid hemorrhage is the major cause of poor prognosis. The pathology of subarachnoid hemorrhage likely involves major morphological changes in the microcirculation. However, previous studies primarily used fixed tissue or delayed injury models. Therefore, in the present study, we used in vivo imaging to observe the dynamic changes in cerebral microcirculation after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Subarachnoid hemorrhage was induced by perforation of the bifurcation of the middle cerebral and anterior cerebral arteries in male C57/BL6 mice. The diameter of pial arterioles and venules was measured by in vivo fluorescence microscopy at different time points within 180 minutes after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Cerebral blood flow was examined and leukocyte adhesion/albumin extravasation was determined at different time points before and after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Cerebral pial microcirculation was abnormal and cerebral blood flow was reduced after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Acute vasoconstriction occurred predominantly in the arterioles instead of the venules. A progressive increase in the number of adherent leukocytes in venules and substantial albumin extravasation were observed between 10 and 180 minutes after subarachnoid hemorrhage. These results show that major changes in microcirculation occur in the early stage of subarachnoid hemorrhage. Our findings may promote the development of novel therapeutic strategies for the early treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage.

This study aimed to analyze the effect of lipid peroxidation on the allergenicity and functional properties of soybeanβ-conglycinin(7 S)and glycinin(11 S).Oxidation complexes were determined using the lipid peroxidation method.Functional properties were analyzed based on emulsifying and foaming properties.The potential allergenicity was evaluated by in vitro and in vivo methods.The results found that oxidation altered structures of the proteins and resulted in the formation of cross-linked protein polymers.The emulsion and foaming properties of the proteins were improved after oxidation.The IgE-binding capacity of 7 S and11 S reduced after oxidation.KU812 cell assays showed that both histamine and IL-4 release decreased after oxidation treatment.A mouse model showed that oxidation reduced the IgE,IgG,and IgG1 levels,as well as reduced histamine and mMCP-1 release in serum,which might suppress the allergic reaction.In conclusion,the lipid peroxidation treatment likely causes changes to the functional properties of soybean,decreasing the potential allergenicity of 7 S and 11 S.

Melanoma is a lethal skin malignancy and the fifth most diagnosed cancer in the United States.1 Currently,for unresectable melanoma,the recommended treatment options include checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy targeting programmed cell death 1(PD-1),and inhibitors targeting the mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)pathway.However,the response rate may vary among the patients,and therefore demanding the development of novel treatment strategies.Tumor suppressor TP53has been suggested as one of the critical regulators mediating the aggressiveness and progression of melanoma.

Tebuconazole exposure has been described as an increasing hazard to human health.An increasing number of recent studies have shown a positive association between tebuconazole exposure and cardiovascular disease risk,which is characterized by the reduction of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)synthesis.However,researches on the damage of tebuconazole exposure to energy metabolism and the related molecular mechanisms are limited.In the present study,male C57BL/6 mice were treated with tebuconazole at different low concentrations for 4 weeks.The results indicated that tebuconazole could accumulate in the heart and further induce the decrease of ATP content in the mouse heart.Importantly,tebuconazole induced an obvious shift in substrate utilization of fatty acid and glucose by disrupting their corresponding transporters(GLUT1,GLUT4,CD36,FABP3 and FATP1)expression,and significantly repressed the expression of mitochondrial biogenesis(Gabpa and Tfam)and oxidative phosphorylation(CS,Ndufa4,Sdhb,Cox5a and Atp5b)related genes in a dosedependent manner.Further investigation revealed that these alterations were related to the IRS1/AKT and PPARγ/RXRαpathways.These findings contribute to a better understanding of triazole fungicide-induced cardiovascular disease by revealing the key indicators associated with this phenomenon.

Mitochondria dysfunction occurs in the aging brain as well as in several neurodegenerative disorders and predisposes neuronal cells to enhanced sensitivity to neurotoxins.In particular,defects in any of the mitochondria respiratory chain complexes lead to impaired adenosine triphosphate production resulting in diseases that often affect the central nervous system.For instance,innate deficits in succinate dehydrogenase(SDH)mitochondria respiratory chain complex II activity caused by genetic mutations in SDH subunits lead to early-onset neurodegeneration(Jain-Ghai et al.,2013),while several adult-onset genetic neurodegenerative disorders are associated with variable levels of complex II deficiency in the central nervous system(Túnez et al.,2010).Also,chemically induced complex II deficiency leads to neurodegeneration.
