Adiponectin gene polymorphisms and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus:A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Adiponectin(ADIPOQ) is an important factor involved in the regulation of both carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Polymorphisms in the ADIPOQ gene are known to influence an individual's predisposition to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Moreover, women with gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM) are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Several studies have been conducted previously to assess the association between ADIPOQ polymorphisms and GDM; however, the results of the association are *** To quantitatively evaluate the association between ADIPOQ +45 T/G, +276 G/T,and-11377 C/G polymorphisms and the risk of *** A systematic search of EMBASE, PubMed, CNKI, Web of Science, and WANFANG DATA was conducted up to October 20, 2018. We calculated merged odds ratios(ORs) with 95% confidence intervals(CIs) using a fixed-effects or random-effects model depending on the between-study heterogeneity to evaluate the association between AIDPOQ +45 T/G, +276 G/T, and-11377 C/G polymorphisms and the risk of GDM. Subgroup analysis was performed by ethnicity. publication and sensitivity bias analyses were performed to test the robustness of the association. All statistical analyses were conducted using Stata *** Nine studies of +45 T/G included 1024 GDM cases and 1059 controls, five studies of +276 G/T included 590 GDM cases and 595 controls, and five studies of-11377 C/G included 722 GDM cases and 791 controls. A plant-based diet for overweight and obesity prevention and treatment

The goal of this paper is to review the evidence related to the effect of plant-based dietary pattems on obesity and weight loss, includingboth observational and intervention trials. Literature from plant-based diets （PBDs） epidemiological and clinical trial research was used toinform this review. In addition, data on dietary quality, adherence, and acceptability were evaluated and are presented. Both clinical trials andobservational research indicate an advantage to adoption of PBDs for preventing overweight and obesity and promoting weight loss. PBDsmay also confer higher levels of diet quality than are observed with other therapeutic diet approaches, with similar levels of adherence andacceptability. Future studies should utilize health behavior theory to inform intervention development and delivery of PBDs studies and newtechnologies to bring interventions to scale for greater public health impact. Research examining PBDs and weight loss is also needed withmore diverse populations, including older adults. Based on the available evidence, PBDs should be considered a viable option for the treat-ment and prevention of overweight and obesity.

Factors associated with breastfeeding duration:a prospective cohort study in Sichuan Province,China

Counterfactual analysis of the 2023 Omicron XBB wave in China

Background:China has experienced a COVID-19 wave caused by Omicron XBB variant starting in April *** aim is to conduct a retrospective analysis exploring the dynamics of the outbreak under counterfactual scenarios that combine the use of vaccines,antiviral drugs,and nonpharmaceutical ***:We developed a mathematical model of XBB transmission in China,which has been calibrated using SARS-CoV-2 positive rates per *** age-specific infection-hospitalization risk,infection-ICU risk,and infection-fatality risk were used to estimate disease burdens,characterized as number of hospital admissions,ICU admissions,and ***:We estimated that in absence of behavioral change,the XBB outbreak in spring 2023 would have resulted in 0.86 billion infections(∼61%of the total population).Our counterfactual analysis shows that the synergetic effect of vaccination(70%vaccination coverage),antiviral treatment(20%receiving antiviral treatment),and moderate nonpharmaceutical interventions(20%isolation and L1 PHSMs)could reduce the number of deaths to levels close to seasonal influenza(1.17 vs.0.65 per 10,000 individuals and 5.85 vs.3.85 per 10,000 individuals aged 60+,respectively).The maximum peak prevalence of hospital and ICU admissions are estimated to be lower than the corresponding capacities(8.6 vs.10.4 per 10,000 individuals and 1.2 vs.2.1 per 10,000 individuals,respectively).Conclusion:Our findings suggest that the capacity of the Chinese healthcare system was adequate to face the Omicron XBB wave in spring 2023 but,at the same time,supports the importance of administering highly effective vaccine with long-lasting immune response,and the use of antiviral treatments.

Lys751Gln polymorphism in ERCC2 gene is associated with lung cancer susceptibility in the Chinese population

The excision repair cross-complementing group 2(ERCC2)gene encodes a DNA repair protein,which is absolutely necessary in nucleotide excision repair.A polymorphism in codon 751 that induces a Lys→Gln substitution has been suggested to reduce the DNA repair ***,we conducted a matched case-control study to investigate the role of ERCC2 Lys751Gln polymor- phism in the development of lung cancer in the Chinese *** genotype of ERCC2 gene was analyzed by di-allele-specific-amplifi- cation with artificially modified primers(diASA-AMP)in 200 original lung cancer cases and 200 *** results showed that carriers of Lys/Gln and Gln/Gln genotypes had a 3.32-fold higher risk of lung cancer compared with carriers of Lys/Lys ***, the mutant genotypa of 751Gln allele was found to be associated with an increased risk in both lung squamous cell carcinoma and lung ade- ***,no significant interaction between 751Gln variants and smoking was observed after stratifying according to the smoking status in this *** results suggest that the Lys751Gln polymorphism in ERCC2 gene is a potential biomarker for suscepti- bility of lung cancer in the Chinese population.

Short-term impacts of air pollution on the platelet-lymphocyte ratio and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio among urban adults in China

The short-term impacts of urban air pollution on the platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) remain *** this study,we included 3487 urban adults from the Wuhan-Zhuhai *** inhalation exposure to air pollutants was estimated by combining participants’daily breath volume and ambient concentrations of six air pollutants (includingfine particulate matter (PM_(2.5)),inhalable particulate matter(PM_(10)),nitrogen dioxide (NO_(2)),sulfur dioxide (SO_(2)),carbon monoxide (CO) and ozone (O_(3))).The cumulative impacts were assessed by applying lag structures of up to 7 days before the survey *** of air pollutants with PLR and NLR were assessed using a linear mixed model and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) *** found that PLR was negatively related to PM_(2.5)(lag02-lag06),PM_(10)(lag02-lag07),NO_(2)(lag02-lag07),and SO_(2)(lag03-lag05) and NLR was negatively related to PM_(10)(lag05 and lag07).In the BKMR model,a negative joint association between the six-air-pollutant mixture and PLR and NLR was observed,whereas PM_(10)and NO_(2)appeared to be more important than the other pollutants in the *** negative impact of air pollutants was stronger in males,participants with lower body mass index (health impact of air pollutants.
