Characterization of mycobacterium isolates from pulmomary tuberculosis suspected cases visiting Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at Ethiopian health and Nutrition research institute,Addis Ababa Ethiopia:a cross sectional study

Objective:To characterize mycobaclerium isolates from pulmomary tuberculosis suspected cases visiting National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at Ethiopian health and Nutrition research institute,for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis from January 4 to February 22.2010 with total samples of 263.Methods:Sputum specimens were collected and processed:the deposits were cultured.Por culturing Lowenstein Jensen medium(LJ) and Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube(BACTEC MGIT 960) were used.Capilia Neo was used for detecting NTM isolates from isolates of BACTEC MGIT960.In Armauer Hansen research institute,Addis Ababa Ethiopia,Deletion typing PCR method for species identification(from confirmed Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex(MTBC) isolates by Capilia Neo) uas done.Results:Out of 263 enrolled in the study.124 and 117 ol them were positive for mycobaeterium growth by BACTEC MGIT 960 and 1.1 culture method,respectively.From BACTEC MGIT 960 positive media of 124 isolates.117 were randomly taken to perform Capilia TB Neo lest.From these 7(6%) of them were found to be NTM and 110(94%) were MTBC.From these 110 MTBC isolates,81 of them were randomly taken and run by the deletion typing RD9 PCR method of molecular technique.Out of these 78(96.3%) were found to be species of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 3(3.7%) were found to be not in the MTBC.Regarding the types of methods of culture media.Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube(BACTEC MGIT 960) method was found to have excellent agreement(with kappa value ol 0.78) with the routine method of LJ.Conclusions:Pulmonary tuberculosis suspected cases visiting the National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at EHNR1 that were confirmed to be pulmonary tuberculosis are caused by the species of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.hence treatment regimen including pyrazinamide can be applied to the patients as the first choice in the study area in Addis Ababa.Ethiopia.There is indication of the presence of NTM in patients visiting the tuberculosis reference laboratory and this is important because

Comparison of posttraumatic growth and posttraumatic stress of nurses with physicians and medical students after caring of COVID‑19 patients

Objectives:The present study compared the prevalence and psychosocial factors affecting posttraumatic growth(PTG),posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD),and psychological distress in nurses,physicians,and medical students.Materials and Methods:In a cross‑sectional study,three groups of medical staff including nurses(n=57),physicians(n=40),and medical students(n=34)who were responsible for the care/treatment of COVID‑19 patients admitted to a general hospital for 4 months responded to Posttraumatic Growth Inventory,Brief Symptom Inventory‑18,Resilience Questionnaire,PTSD Screen,and Social Capital‑Integrated Questionnaire.Results:After the exposure of medical staff to at least 4 months of treatment/care of COVID‑19 patients,PTG prevalence was higher than PTSD(38.2%vs.14.6%),but they experienced some degrees of psychological distress(65.5%).The nurses had 8.33(confidence interval[CI]:2.5–26.7)times higher PTG rate than medical students(P<0.001).Physicists also experienced 5.00(CI:1.4–26.7)times higher PTG than medical students(P<0.001).PTG was aided by age,married status,strong resilience,and high social capital,but gender had no influence.Resilience played an important protective role to prevent the incidence of psychological distress in nurses,medical students,and physicians.Conclusion:Despite the fact that the PTSD and psychological distress were same in the three groups of medical staff,the nurses had a greater rate of PTG than physicians and medical students.

What is already known about this topic?Understanding the regional distributions of disability is helpful for policymaking in precise disability prevention and control,especially in China.However,only a few studies have focused on the regional distributions of disability and their relationships with socioeconomic conditions,and almost all of them have ignored the variances of disability within provinces in China.What is added by this report?This research found that with the increase in the regional income level,the prevalence of disability showed a decreasing trend.The aging process of disability in high-income regions is more serious than that in other income level regions,and with the improvement of income level,the prevalence of disability in males declines rapidly.What are the implications for public health practice?The study analyzed the county-level distribution patterns of disability and their relationship with socioeconomic factors to provide a basis for implementing regional policies on disability prevention and control.

Over the past decades,epidemiological studies have concluded that a diet rich in plant-derived products plays a pivotal role in human health.Fisetin(3,3’,4’,7-tetrahydroxyflavone)is a hydrophobic polyphenolic compound primarily found in edible plants(e.***.strawberry,blueberry,apple,grape,persimmon,kiwi,and cucumber).Various preclinical studies have revealed that fisetin exhibits a wide range of pharmacological effects such as antioxidant,antiinflammatory,anti-carcinogenic,anti-osteoporotic,antimicrobial,and anti-diabetic properties.Therefore,the pharmacological in vitro and in vivo studies on fisetin are discussed in this review.Additionally,this review would be useful for further study regarding the potential of natural products,notably fisetin,and its therapeutic potential for the prevention and treatment of diseases.

Background:This study investigates the effects of exercise training on exerkines in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus to determine the optimal exercise prescription.Methods:A systematic search for relevant studies was performed in 3 databases.Randomized controlled trials investigating the effects of exercise training on at least one of the following exerkines were included:adiponectin,apelin,brain-derived neurotrophic factor,fetuin-A,fibroblast growth factor-21,follistatin,ghrelin,interleukin(IL)-6,IL-8,IL-10,IL-15,IL-18,leptin,myostatin,omentin,resistin,retinol-binding protein 4,tumor necrosis factor-α,and visfatin.Results:Forty randomized controlled trials were selected for data extraction(n=2160).Exercise training induces changes in adiponectin,fetuin-A,fibroblast growth factor-21,IL-6,IL-10,leptin,resistin,and tumor necrosis factor-a levels but has no significant effects on apelin,IL-18,and ghrelin compared to controls.Physical exercise training favored large and positive changes in pooled exerkines(i.e.,an overall effect size calculated from several exerkine s)(Hedge’s g=1.02,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.76-1.28),which in turn were related to changes in glycated hemoglobin(mean difference(MD)=-0.81%,95%CI:-0.95%to-0.67%),fasting glucose(MD=-23.43 mg/dL,95%CI:-30.07 mg/dL to-16.80 mg/dL),waist circumference(MD=-3.04 cm,95%CI:-4.02 cm to-2.07 cm),and body mass(MD=-1.93 kg,95%CI:-2.00 kg to-1.86 kg).Slightly stronger effects were observed with aerobic,resistance,or high-intensity interval protocols at moderate-to vigorous-intensity and with programs longer than 24 weeks that comprise at least 3 sessions per week and more than 60 min per session.Conclusion:Exercise training represents an anti-inflammatory therapy and metabolism-improving strategy with minimal side effects for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Vertical load capacities of roof truss cross members

Trusses used for roof support in coal mines are constructed of two grouted bolts installed at opposing forty-five degree angles into the roof and a cross member that ties the angled bolts together. The load on the cross member is vertical, which is transverse to the longitudinal axis, and therefore the cross member is loaded in the weakest direction. Laboratory tests were conducted to determine the vertical load capacity and deflection of three different types of cross members. Single-point load tests, with the load applied in the center of the specimen and double-point load tests, with a span of 2.4 m, were conducted. For the single-point load configuration, the yield of the 25 mm solid bar cross member was nominally 98 kN of vertical load, achieved at 42 cm of deflection. For cable cross members, yield was not achieved even after 45 cm of deflection. Peak vertical loads were about 89 kN for 17 mm cables and67 kN for the 15 mm cables. For the double-point load configurations, the 25 mm solid bar cross members yielded at 150 kN of vertical load and 25 cm of deflection. At 25 cm of deflection individual cable strands started breaking at 133 and 111 kN of vertical load for the 17 and 15 mm cable cross members respectively.

Evaluation of fiber optic methane sensor using a smoke chamber

This report presents the results of experiments to evaluate a prototype fiber optic methane monitor exposed to smoke using a smoke chamber to simulate atmospheric conditions in an underground coal mine after a fire or explosion. The experiments were conducted using test fires of different combustible sources commonly found in mines —douglas-fir wood, SBR belt, and Pittsburgh seam coal. The experiments were designed to assess the response of the fiber optic methane sensor to different contaminants,different contaminant levels and different contaminant durations produced from the test fires. Since the prototype methane monitor detects methane by measuring absorption at a specific wavelength, optical power at the absorption wavelength(1650 nm) was measured as a function of smoke concentration and duration. The other sensor response parameter-methane response times-were measured between smoke tests to assess the impact of soot accumulation on the sensor. Results indicate that the sensor screen effectively prevented smoke from obscuring the optical beam within the sensor head, with minimal impact on the system optical power budget. Methane response times increased with smoke exposure duration, attributed to soot loading on the protective screen.
