Crystalline carbon nitride(CCN)has emerged as a highly promising semiconductor photocatalyst with unique properties,such as enhanced charge migration rate,reduced carrier recombination probability,narrow band gap and improved light-harvesting efficiency,which are suitable for a wide range of applications in solar-to-chemical conversion,energy storage,therapeutic and environmental pollution *** the past few years,there has been an increasing number of reviews on CCN ***,most of these reviews mainly focus on synthesis methods,modification and applications,with less emphasis on the relationship between structures and properties,as well as on indepth exploration of the crystalline *** electronic instability of CCN presents challenges for conventional characterization techniques to directly and thoroughly investigate the relationship between its intrinsic atom structure and photocatalytic *** mini-review not only highlights the progress in CCN-based photocatalysts,with a focus on molten-salt synthesis(including solid-salt-induced crystallization),but also emphasizes the atomic structure characterization by specifically introducing the differential phase contrast(DPC)scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)technique,which is essential for enhancing our understanding of the crystal structure and photocatalytic mechanisms of ***,the review outlines the photocatalytic performance and puts forward potential challenges on CCN *** review will provide a clearer understanding of the relationship in developing precise customization strategies for CCN materials and ultimately explain the regularity and specificity of the enhanced performance in targeted photocatalytic systems.

From blocker to booster:Harnessing garnet surface chemistry for advanced solid-state electrolytes

Garnet electrolytes with high ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability are widely used as fillers to fabricate composite solid electrolytes(CPEs)within polymer ***,the performance of CPEs is significantly influenced by the surface characteristics of the garnet ***,the impact of garnet surface characteristics on CPEs was systematically investigated and a conversion from a typically unstable and Lewis basic surface to a more stable Lewis acidic surface was realized,which is shown to be more conductive to the improved performance of *** simultaneously removing the Li_(2)CO_(3)layer and applying a Li-Al-O coating,the influence of surface characteristics on CPEs was *** Lewis acid Li-Al-O surface coating not only promotes lithium salt dissociation,improving the ionic conductivity and ionic transfer number,but also prevents the reformation of the passive Lewis basic Li_(2)CO_(3)*** to garnet with a Lewis basic Li_(2)CO_(3)surface,the garnet modified with a Lewis acid Li-Al-O coating enhances CPEs,which exhibit an improved critical current density of 1.0 mA·cm^(-2)and highly stable lithium symmetric cell cycling for 400 h at 0.2 mA·cm^(-2).This research highlights the importance of surface chemistry in the design of high-performance solid-state batteries and presents a strategic modification approach for garnetbased CPEs.

The transient and static anti-plane problem of a rigid line inclusion pulled out from an elastic medium is *** singular integral equation method is used to solve the stress *** the static load,the stress intensity factor(SIF)at the inclusion tips increases with the medium *** problem becomes equivalent to an inclusion in a medium with an infinite length when the length of the medium is 3.5times longer than that of the ***,under the transient load,the maximum value of the SIF occurs when the medium length is about two times the inclusion ***,the relation between the pull-out force and the anti-plane displacement is *** conclusions are useful in guiding the design of fiber reinforced composite materials.

Polarized holographic lithography system for high-uniformity microscale patterning with periodic tunability

Periodic microscale array structures play an important role in diverse applications involving photonic crystals and diffraction gratings.A polarized holographic lithography system is proposed for patterning high-uniformity microscale two-dimensional crossed-grating structures with periodic *** two-axis Lloyd’s mirror interference and polarization modulation produce three sub-beams,enabling the formation of two-dimensional crossed-grating patterns with wavelength-comparable periods by a single *** two-dimensional-pattern period can also be flexibly tuned by adjusting the interferometer spatial *** states of three sub-beams,defining the uniformity of the interference fringes,are modulated at their initial-polarization states based on a strict full polarization tracing model in a three-dimensional space.A polarization modulation model is established considering two conditions of eliminating the unexpected interference and providing the desired identical interference *** proposed system is a promising approach for fabricating high-uniformity two-dimensional crossed gratings with a relatively large grating period range of 500–1500 ***,our rapid and stable approach for patterning period-tunable two-dimensional-array microstructures with high uniformity could be applicable to other multibeam interference lithography techniques.

Control of polymorphism in solution-processed organic thin film transistors by self-assembled monolayers

Polymorphism of organic semiconductor films is of key importance for the performance of organic thin film transistors(OTFTs).Herein,we demonstrate that the polymorphism of solution-processed organic semiconductors in thin film transistors can be controlled by finely tuning the surface nanostructures of substrates with self-assembled monolayers(SAMs).It is found that the SAMs of 12-cyclohexyldodecylphosphonic acid(CDPA)and 12-phenyldodecylphosphonic acid(Ph DPA)induce different polymorphs in the dip-coated films of 2-dodecyl[1]benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene(BTBT-C12).The film of BTBT-C12 on CDPA exhibits field effect mobility as high as 28.1 cm2 V-1 s-1 for holes,which is higher than that of BTBT-C12 on Ph DPA by three *** high mobility of BTBT-C12 on CDPA is attributable to the highly oriented films of BTBT-C12 with a reduced in-plane lattice and high molecular alignment.

On Con-Numbers and Con-Matrices with Applications to Control Systems

Mechanism on minimization of excess sludge in oxic-settling- anaerobic (OSA) process

The oxic-settling-anaerobic(OSA)process is a promising wastewater treatment technique for efficiently reducing sludge production and improving the stability of process *** this paper,the possible factors of sludge reduction such as sludge decay,uncoupled metabol-ism,and anaerobic oxidation with low sludge production were discussed in the OSA *** has been confirmed that sludge decay is the decisive cause in the OSA process,accounting for 66.7%of sludge production *** decay includes hydrolysis and acidogenesis of dead microorganisms and particle organic carbon adsorbed in sludge floc and endogenous *** batch experi-ments,it has been proven that there is energetic uncoupling in the OSA system since microorganisms were exposed to alternative anaerobic and aerobic *** accounts for about 7.5%of sludge production *** chemical oxygen demand(SCOD)released from the anaerobic sludge tank in the OSA process was used as the substrate for cryptic *** substrate was used for anoxic denitrifying,anaerobic phosphorus release,sulfate reduction,and methane *** anaerobic reactions in the sludge anaerobic tank have lower sludge production than in the aerobic oxidation when equivalent SCOD is consumed,which may lead to approximately 23%of sludge reduction in the OSA *** has been concluded that multiple causes resulted in the minimization of excess sludge in the OSA *** microbial community structure and diversity of sludge samples from the CAS(conventional activated sludge)and OSA systems were investigated by 16 SrDNA PCR-DG-DGGE(poly-merase chain reaction-double gradient-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis).DGGE profile and cluster analysis showed more abundant species in the OSA system contrasting to microbial communities in the CAS system.

On-orbit construction and maintenance technology will play a significant role in future space *** dexterous multifunctional spacecraft equipped with multi-arm,for instance,Spider Fab Bot,has attracted a great deal of focus due to its versatility in completing these *** such engineering practice,point-to-point moving in a complex environment is the fundamental *** paper investigates the three-dimensional point-to-point path planning problem,and a hierarchical path planning architecture is developed to give the trajectory of the multi-arm spacecraft effectively and *** the proposed 3-level architecture,the high-level planner generates the global constrained centric trajectory of the spacecraft with a rigid envelop assumption;the middle-level planner contributes the action sequence,a combination of the newly developed general translational and rotational locomotion mode,to cope with the relative position and attitude of the arms about the centroid of the spacecraft;the low-level planner maps the position/attitude of the end-effector of each arm from the operational space to the joint space ***,the simulation experiment is carried out,and the results verify the effectiveness of the proposed three-layer architecture path planning strategy.

Genetic-algorithm-based artificial intelligence control of a turbulent boundary layer

An artificial intelligence(AI)open-loop control system is developed to manipulate a turbulent boundary layer(TBL)over a flat plate,with a view to reducing friction *** system comprises six synthetic jets,two wall-wire sensors,and genetic algorithm for the unsupervised learning of optimal control *** of the synthetic jets through rectangular streamwise slits can be independently controlled in terms of its exit velocity,frequency and actuation *** are conducted at a momentum-thickness-based Reynolds number Re_(θ)of *** local drag reduction downstream of the synthetic jets may reach 48%under conventional open-loop *** local drag reduction rises to 60%,with an extended effective drag reduction area,under the AI control that finds optimized non-uniform *** results point to the significant potential of AI in the control of a TBL given distributed actuation.
