The Liaoning clawed salamander(Onychodactylus zhaoermii)is an endemic and critically endangered amphibian species of *** study the population genetics of natural populations of this species,32 samples were collected from six different locations,and the mitochondrial genome was *** genetic analyses showed that the Liaoning clawed salamander is composed of only one radialized cluster with ultralow nucleotide *** Pleistocene climate cooling(-100 to-30 kya)may have reduced the effective population size of the Liaoning clawed salamander,and the subsequent temperature increase(~25 kya to present)provided the opportunity for population *** of heat sensitivity,the maximum temperature of the prebreeding period,especially from March to May,is very important for the surface environment living in the Liaoning clawed *** suitable regions were predicted by the MaxEnt model,and the largest suitable region(approximately 899 km2)was at the four-county boundary area and was larger than the present’natural Conservation Community of the Liaoning Clawed Salamander’.To ensure more effective protection of all Liaoning clawed salamanders,we suggest extending the current’natural Conservation Community of the Liaoning Clawed Salamander’to include the four-county boundary area.

The forest ecosystems of the Lacs 2 commune (South-East, Togo) are undergoing severe degradation, which has not yet been documented. This study is carried out in order to assess and quantify the spatio-temporal dynamics of residual forests and to identify the determinants of deforestation in South East Togo. The methodological approach is based on the use of historical aerial photographs from 1976 and drone images from 2019 in addition to field investigations. Several spatial structure indices were also calculated in order to quantify the fragmentation of classes and of the forest landscape. The results show that the forest landscape is changing. The classes of forests, plantations and palm groves show an annual rate of decline of 7.5%, 0.8% and 9.4% respectively while the classes of savannahs, agglomerations, surface water and swamps increased by 16.4%, 0.4%, 0.7% and 0.1%. The results also reveal a high fragmentation within the forest, plantation, surface water and swamp class and moderate fragmentation for the savannah and palm trees classes. At the landscape level, the savannah class is dominant by more than 70%, thus making the landscape little diversified from an ecological point of view. The main driver of deforestation in the study area remains shifting slash-and-burn agriculture. It is accentuated by the establishment of perennial oil palm crops, which has influenced the annual deforestation rate by 0.72%.

The aim is collecting uranium from groundwater in which uranium mainly exists in negative species,the amidoxime-functionalized hydrothermal carbon(AO-HTC)was *** the results of N2 adsorption-desorption and SEM,AO-HTC is a small spherical surface;FT-IR and Elemental analysis showed that the amidoxime group was successfully grafted onto the surface of the material;Zeta-potential measurement showed that the amino nitrogen atom is protonated in the oxime *** optimum pH value of AO-HTC for uranium adsorption is 6.0,and the adsorption equilibrium is reached within 80 min,which is in accordance with the pseudo-second order adsorption kinetic *** adsorption of uranium by AO-HTC accords with the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model,and the single-layer saturated adsorption capacity is 254.13mg·g^-*** thermodynamic parameters calculated by the adsorption isotherm indicate that AO-HTC adsorption of uranium is a spontaneous endothermic chemical process and Carbonate ion,calcium ion and humic acid concentration have great influence on uranium *** experiments results show that AO-HTC has the potential to elimination of U(Ⅳ)from groundwater.

A key scientific issue in the study of the Anthropocene is the determination of the corresponding stratigraphic marker in geological *** arid and semi-arid regions of Asia are the second largest dust source on Earth,and their release,transport and deposition of dust affect global climate change,as well as marine and terrestrial biogeochemical *** the past~2000 years,human activity has outpaced natural climatic variability as the dominant control of dust storms in northern ***,exploring the potential of anthropogenic Asian dust as a marker of the Anthropocene and its impacts on lake ecosystems may contribute to an improved definition of the characteristics and timing of the *** this context,we measured spectrally-inferred chlorophyll a from the sediments of an undisturbed alpine lake in northern China,and compared the results with dust storm data from the same cores and with regional climatic *** dust is a widely distributed,globally significant signal of human activity,and it is also well preserved in various geological archives;hence,we propose anthropogenic dust can be considered as a potential marker of the *** dust signals in stratigraphic records during the past~2000 years differ substantially from those during the early and middle Holocene,which demonstrates that,at least since~2000 years ago,human activity has exceeded the natural forcing of dust transport in northern *** therefore propose that there are spatial and temporal differences in the onset of the Anthropocene,as defined by anthropogenic dust deposition,which is therefore *** spectrally-inferred chlorophyll a record is consistent with dust storm activity over the past~2000 years(except since the 1950s),suggesting that anthropogenic dust storms were the dominant control on lake primary *** to the 1950s the interactions of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM),human activity,dust storms and lake ecos

Microbes play an important role in the carbon cycle and nutrient flow of the soil ***,the response of microbial activities to long-term warming over decades is poorly *** determine how warming changes ecoenzyme activity and microbial nutrient limitation,we conducted a long-term,21 years,experiment,on the Qinghai–Tibet *** selected typical grass-and shrub-covered plots,used fiberglass open-top chambers(OTCs)to raise the temperature,conducted soil sampling at different depths,studied the response of nutrient-acquiring enzyme activity and stoichiometry,and conducted vector analysis of *** results showed that long-term warming did not have a notable effect on the activity of nutrient-acquiring enzymes or enzymatic ***,Spearman correlation analysis indicated a significant and positive correlation between ecoenzyme activity and the available nutrients and microbial biomass in *** analysis of stoichiometry showed phosphorus limitation for all soil microbes at different depths,regardless of whether the soil experienced *** changes in enzymatic stoichiometry and vector analysis suggested that microbial nutrient limitation was not alleviated substantially by long-term warming,and warming did not considerably affect the stratification of microbial nutrient *** research has also shown that long-term warming does not significantly change soil ecoenzyme activity and original microbial nutrient limitation at different soil depths within the OTUsʼimpact *** results could help improve understanding of microbial thermal acclimation and response to future long-term global warming.

Comparison of the photo-acclimation potential of fl oating and benthic thalli of Sargassum horneri(Phaeophyta)during autumn and winter

Sargassum horneri is a foundational species and an important contributor to the fl oating seaweed stock along the northeastern coast of *** this study,benthic and fl oating thalli of *** were collected from Changdao Island(37°54′N,120°43′E),Bohai Bay,*** conducted an in-situ and an indoor experiment to study the acclimation potential in *** to abiotic conditions at sea surface in autumn and *** benthic and fl oating thalli were cultured in situ for two months(from October to December)at diff erent depths:0 m above sea level(masl)and 3 m below sea level(mbsl),and their growth rate,biochemical content,and photosynthetic performance were *** the fi rst month of culture,the relative growth rate of fl oating thalli was 2-fold greater than that of benthic thalli at 0 *** photosynthetic rate of most thalli was signifi cantly higher at 0 masl than at 3 *** the indoor experiments,fl oating and benthic thalli were exposed to high light intensity(400μmol photons/(m^(2)·s)photosynthetically active radiation(PAR))for 21 d,and their photo-acclimation capacities were *** high light intensity,the two types of thalli showed low maximum quantum yield(F_(v)/F_(m))and light utilisation effi ciency(α)but high light saturation point(E_(k)).Floating thalli showed higher photosynthetic rate and photoprotective ability than benthic thalli at high light *** eff ective quantum yield of photosystem II[Y(II)]of both types of thalli recovered after a 6-day treatment with low light intensity(40μmol photons/(m^(2)·s)).These fi ndings suggest that *** is highly acclimated to the sea surface environment,which possibly contributes to its rapid accumulation and long free-fl oating periods at the sea surface.

The coastline changes along Yemen＇s the Red Sea （Al-muka, Al-khohah, Al-tiaf, Ras Katib and Al- Urji spits） were studied using a series of landsat images （MSS, TM and ETM ＋ , 1972, 1989, 2000, 2006）, coupled with geomorphological, sedimentological and meteorological findings. Comparison of satellite images provided a viable means for establishing long-term coastal changes （accretion and erosion） as observed in the studied spits （Al-Urj, Ras Sham, Ras Maemoon, Ras Katib, Al-Mandar, Nukhaylah, Mujamilah, Ras Ashab Abu-Zahr and Mukha）. The rate of the spit accretion has the greatest value up to 89 pixel/year corresponding to 72 290 m2/year in Mukha, while the spit erosion shows greatest value up to 131 pixel/year corresponding to 106 404 m2/year in Mujamilab. The patterns of accretion and erosion along the spits depend on the spit direction, natural processes mainly of wave-induced longshore currents, the sediments supply and depth of sea.
