Fe(Ⅱ)is an essential trace element for anaerobic ammonium oxidation bacteria(AAOB)metabolism,and can improve the nitrogen removal efficiency of anaerobic ammonia oxidation(Anammox).Here we oper-ated two identical expanded granular sludge bed(EGSB)reactors at low temperature(15±3℃)for 154 *** 1(R_(1))received additional Fe(Ⅱ)(0.12 mmol/L)during the late startup phase,while reactor 0(R_(0))served as the control and did not receive extra Fe(Ⅱ).Nitrogen removal in R_(1)became stable at 55 d of operation,ten days earlier than R_(0).The nitrogen removal rate(NRR)of R_(1) was 1.64 kg N m^(−3)d^(−1)and its TN removal rate was as high as 89%,while R_(0)only reached 75%.The addition of Fe(Ⅱ)was fur-ther beneficial to aggregation and stability of the granular sludge,and the used sludge of both reactors showed enrichment for AAOB populations compared to the inoculum,for instance,increased abundance of Candidatus-Kuenenia and in particular of Candidatus-Brocadia(from 0.17%to 10.10%in R_(0)and 7.79%in R_(1)).Diverse microbial species and complex microbial network structure in R_(1)compared to R_(0)promoted the coupled denitrogenation by Anammox,dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium(DNRA),nitrate-dependent Fe oxidation(NDFO),and ferric ammonium oxidation(Feammox).In addition,the microbial community in R_(1)was more resistant to short-term low temperature(2-7℃)starvation,illustrating a further positive effect of adding Fe(Ⅱ)during the startup phase of an Anammox reactor.

Hospital sewage contains various harmful pharmaceutical contaminants(e.g.,antibiotics,anti-inflammatory agents,and painkillers)and pathogens(e.g.,bacteria,viruses,and parasites),whose direct discharge into the environment will induce diseases and pose a powerful threat to human health and safety,and environmental *** recent years,advanced oxidation processes(AOPs),particularly photocatalysis,electrocatalysis,and ozone catalysis have been developed as widespread and effective techniques for hospital sewage ***,there is a lack of systematic comparison and review of the prior studies on hospital sewage treatment using AOPs *** review elaborates on the mechanisms,removal efficiencies,and advantages/disadvantages of these AOPs systems for hospital wastewater decontamination and ***,some novel and potential technologies such as photo-electrocatalysis,electro-peroxone,Fenton/Fenton-like,and piezoelectric catalysis are also included and ***,we further summarize and compare the capacity of these AOPs to treat the actual hospital wastewater under the impact of the water matrix and pH,and estimate the economic cost of these technologies for practical ***,the future development directions of AOPs for hospital wastewater decontamination and disinfection have been ***,this study provides a comparison and overview of these AOP systems in an attempt to raise extensive concerns about hospital wastewater decontamination and disinfection technologies and guide researchers to discover the future directions of technologies optimization,which would be a crucial step forward in the field of hospital sewage treatment.

Understanding the dynamics of surface water area and their drivers is crucial for human survival and ecosystem stability in inland arid and semi-arid *** study took Gansu Province,China,a typical area with complex terrain and variable climate,as the research *** on Google Earth Engine,we used Landsat data and the Open-surface Water Detection Method with Enhanced Impurity Control method to monitor the spatiotemporal dynamics of surface water area in Gansu Province from 1985 to 2022,and quantitatively analyzed the main causes of regional differences in surface water *** findings revealed that surface water area in Gansu Province expanded by 406.88 km2 from 1985 to *** surface water area exhibited significant fluctuations,while permanent surface water area showed a steady ***,terrestrial water storage exhibited a trend of first decreasing and then increasing,correlated with the dynamics of surface water *** change and human activities jointly affected surface hydrological processes,with the impact of climate change being slightly higher than that of human ***,climate change affected the'source'of surface water to a greater extent,while human activities tended to affect the'destination'of surface *** of surface water resources faced by inland arid and semi-arid areas like Gansu Province are ***,we summarized the surface hydrology patterns typical in inland arid and semi-arid areas and tailored surface water'supply-demand'balance *** study not only sheds light on the dynamics of surface water area in Gansu Province,but also offers valuable insights for ecological protection and surface water resource management in inland arid and semi-arid areas facing water scarcity.

Nonreciprocal transport in the superconducting state of the chiral crystal NbGe_(2)

Due to the lack of inversion,mirror or other roto-inversion symmetries,chiral crystals possess a well-defined handedness which,when combined with time-reversal symmetry breaking from the application of magnetic fields,can give rise to directional dichroism of the electrical transport phenomena via the magnetochiral *** this study,we investigate the nonreciprocal magneto-transport in microdevices of NbGe_(2),a superconductor with structural chirality.A giant nonreciprocal signal from vortex motions is observed during the superconducting transition,with the ratio of nonreciprocal resistance to the normal resistanceγreaching 6×10^(5)T^(-1)·A^(-1).Interestingly,the intensity can be adjusted and even sign-reversed by varying the current,the temperature,and the crystalline *** findings illustrate intricate vortex dynamics and offer ways of manipulation on the rectification effect in superconductors with structural chirality.

Coriolis effect on responses of rotating thin piezoelectric hollow cylinder

Coriolis effect is considered in the analysis of a rotating piezoelectric hollow cylinder. An inhomogeneous Bessel equation governing the radial mechanical displacement is derived, which can be approximated as an Euler type differential equation when the cylinder is very thin. Numerical examples show that the Coriolis effect can he significant under certain conditions.

Development of a Three-Dimensional Multiscale Octree SBFEM for Viscoelastic Problems of Heterogeneous Materials

The multiscale method provides an effective approach for the numerical analysis of heterogeneous viscoelastic materials by reducing the degree of freedoms(DOFs).A basic framework of the Multiscale Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method(MsSBFEM)was presented in our previous works,but those works only addressed two-dimensional *** order to solve more realistic problems,a three-dimensional MsSBFEM is further developed in this *** the proposed method,the octree SBFEM is used to deal with the three-dimensional calculation for numerical base functions to bridge small and large scales,the three-dimensional image-based analysis can be conveniently conducted in small-scale and coarse nodes can be flexibly adjusted to improve the computational ***,the Temporally Piecewise Adaptive Algorithm(TPAA)is used to maintain the computational accuracy of multiscale analysis by adaptive calculation in time *** results of numerical examples show that the proposed method can significantly reduce the DOFs for three-dimensional viscoelastic analysis with good *** instance,the DOFs can be reduced by 9021 times compared with Direct Numerical Simulation(DNS)with an average error of 1.87%in the third example,and it is very effective in dealing with three-dimensional complex microstructures directly based on images without any geometric modelling process.

It is well known that zero-valent iron(ZVI)could catalyze the oxidation of various oxidants to realize the rapid oxidation removal of ***,in this study,we found that the addition of different oxidants could regulate the redox function of ZVI *** three different co-treatment systems,the effects of different oxidizers(peroxymonosulfate(PMS),persulfate(PDS),hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)))dosages on the ratios of oxidative degradation rate and reductive degradation rate of p-nitrophenol(PNP)were *** effect of the H+released from oxidizers and the generated reactive oxygen species(ROS)in ZVI/PMS,ZVI/PDS,ZVI/H_(2)O_(2)systems were detailed ***,the contribution of generated ROS for reductive degradation of PNP was quantified in the ZVI/H_(2)O_(2)*** on the results of TOC removal,UV-vis absorption spectra,and intermediates concentration curves,it was found that the degradation of PNP changed from reduction to oxidation with the increase of oxidant *** the molar ratio of ZVI to oxidizer equal to 100,PNP was mainly degraded by reduction accompanied by slight *** with the results of SEM-EDS and XPS,it was confirmed that the enhanced degradation of PNP under the addition of oxidant was mainly related to the generated ROS,the additional H+,and the corrosion products of ZVI.

The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants are notorious for their transmissibility,but little is known about their subgenomic RNA(sgRNA)*** study applied RNA-seq to delineate the quantitative and qualitative profiles of canonical sgRNA of 118 respiratory samples collected from patients infected with Omicron BA.2 and compared with 338 patients infected with non-variant of concern(non-VOC)-D614G.A unique characteristic profile depicted by the relative abundance of 9 canonical sgRNAs was reproduced by both BA.2 and non-VOCD614G regardless of host gender,age and presence of ***,such profile was lost in samples with low viral load,suggesting a potential application of sgRNA pattern to indicate viral activity of individual patient at a specific time point.A characteristic qualitative profile of canonical sgRNAs was also reproduced by both BA.2 and *** presence of a full set of canonical sgRNAs carried a coherent correlation with crude viral load(AUC¼0.91,95%CI 0.88–0.94),and sgRNA ORF7b was identified to be the best surrogate marker allowing feasible routine application in characterizing the infection status of individual *** potentials in using sgRNA as a target for vaccine and antiviral development are worth pursuing.

Self-assembled small molecule natural product gel for drug delivery:a breakthrough in new application of small molecule natural products

Natural products,as a gift of nature to humanity,have long been used as drugs or pharmacological actives to help people cure various *** we still know comparatively little about their ability to be *** recent years,some small molecule natural products isolated from traditional Chinese medicines have been found to have new features,namely,self-assembly to form gels(i.e.,natural product gels,NPG).However,the application development of these natural products is seriously lacking,which greatly weakens their practical value and delays the maturity of the ***,a series of selfassembled triterpenoid natural products are used as materials(gel scaffolds)to construct drug delivery ***,these NPG not only exhibit the excellent self-healing,controlled gelation,good safety and sustained release,but also achieve synergistic treatment of tumors through bioactive natural *** with non-bioactive gel scaffolds,NPG scaffolds show great advantages in tumor therapy,including optimal tumor inhibition,preferable health,better body recovery,stronger immune function,less toxic side effects and longer *** successful construction of NPG scaffolds not only takes full advantage of the self-assembled natural products,but also takes an important step in the development of new applications for natural products.
