The Paleocene mudrocks in Ghana’s Tano Basin have received limited attention despite ongoing efforts to explore hydrocarbon resources.A thorough geochemical analysis is imperative to assess these mudrocks’petroleum generation potential and formulate effective exploration *** this study,a comprehensive geochemical analysis was carried out on ten Paleocene rock cuttings extracted from TP-1,a discovery well within the Tano *** analytical techniques,including total organic carbon(ToC)analysis,Rock–Eval pyrolysis,gas chromatography-mass spectrometry,and isotope ratio-mass spectrometry,were employed to elucidate their hydrocar-bon potential and organic ***ﬁndings in this study were subsequently compared to existing geochemical data on Paleocene source rocks in the South Atlantic marginal *** results indicated that the Paleocene samples have ToC content ranging from 0.68 to 2.93 wt%.The prevalent kerogen types identiﬁed in these samples were Type Ⅱ and Type Ⅲ.Molecular and isotope data suggest that the organic matter found in the Paleocene mudrocks can be traced back to land plants and lower aquatic *** mudrocks were deposited in a transi-tional environment withﬂuctuating water salinity,charac-terized by sub-oxic redox *** indices,both bulk and molecular,indicated a spectrum of maturity levels within the Paleocene mudrocks,spanning from immature to marginally mature,with increasing maturity observed with greater *** comparison,the organic composition and depositional environments of Paleocene source rocks in the Tano Basin closely resemble those found in the Niger Delta Basin,Douala,and Kribi-Campo Basins,the Kwanza Formation in Angola,and certain Brazilian marginal ***,it is worth noting that Paleocene source rocks in some of the basins,such as the Niger Delta and Brazilian marginal basins,exhibit rela-tively higher thermal maturity levels compared to those observed in the current Paleocene samp

Fringing Red Sea Corals Survival: Is It Tide or Local Wind?

In this paper, we obtain tidal constituents and discuss observations of tidal and wind variations and its impact on water surface elevation at Zaki’s Reef;a fringing coral reef located in the Red Sea-Gulf of Suez. This manuscript focuses on investigating if tidal forces are playing a key role to keep the area’s unique coral reefs alive and well. Determining the reasons why coral species and community of organisms found here survive despite all stressors is critical, and such information may hold the key to the preservation of reefs elsewhere. Phase and amplitude for 35 tidal constituents were deducted from observations of water surface elevation at the study site (first of its kind). The main tidal constituents based on their amplitudes are: M2, N2, S2, K1, NU2, K2, 2Ns, L2, and MU2. The first five tidal constituents of the aforementioned list are enough to reproduce accurate predictions of tides at this location (R2 variance = 87.54% and RMS = 0.167). The Tidal Form number (0.07) at Zaki’s Reef indicates a fully semidiurnal dominated tidal regime. Moreover, the Sa and Ssa constituents obtained from nearby stations made no improvements on tidal prediction results. Spectral analysis results of the white noise (residuals) from observed water surface elevation are dominated by daily frequency, suggesting that local wind plays a key role in circulation at study site. Local wind generated southerly long-shore and year-round offshore wind stress with a mean of?-0.36 & 0.35 , respectively. The persistent longshore and offshore currents help transport oil patches/spills, from the two nearby ports, away from the reef. Yet, offshore wind stress, pushing water away from the shore, may cause more exposure of the reef to extreme atmospheric conditions. We study theoretically and experimentally the acoustic Purcell effect induced by quasi-bound states in the continuum(quasiBICs).A theoretical framework describing the acoustic Purcell effect of a resonant system is developed based on the system’s radiative and dissipative factors,which reveals the critical emission condition for achieving optimum Purcell *** show that the quasiBICs contribute to highly confined acoustic field and bring about greatly enhanced acoustic emission,leading to strong Purcell *** concept is demonstrated via two coupled resonators supporting a Friedrich-Wintgen quasiBIC,and the theoretical results are validated by the experiments observing emission enhancement of the sound source by nearly two orders of *** work bridges the gap between the acoustic Purcell effect and acoustic BICs essential for enhanced wave-matter interaction and acoustic emission,which may contribute to the research of high-intensity sound sources,high-quality-factor acoustic devices and nonlinear acoustics.

New potential barite reference materials for LA-MC-ICP-MS sulfur isotope analysis with application to hydrothermal barite in the huayangchuan deposit， western China

Sulfur isotopes of S-bearing materials are powerful tools to trace various geological processes and sulfur sources in earth sciences， especially in ore deposits where sulfide-sulfate pair coprecipitates widely. however， in-situ S isotope determination of barite is challenging without natural matrix-matched reference material. In this study， we present two natural barite reference materials （1-YS and 294-YS） for in-situ sulfur isotopic analysis. Independent LA-MC-ICP-MS laboratories were utilized to test the δ34S micron-scale homogeneity of 1-YS and 294-YS barites that have 2s repeatabilities of better than ±0.45 ‰ and ±0.41 ‰， respectively. Meanwhile， the in-situ analysis results are consistent with the results of the bulk analysis by GS-IRMS within uncertainty. The grand mean δ34S values of 1-YS （13.37‰ ± 0.42 ‰， 2s） and 294-YS （14.38‰ ± 0.44 ‰， 2s） are the final recommended values obtained from four independent laboratories. All the results confirm the suitability of 1-YS and 294-YS barite used as calibration materials with respect to in-situ S isotopic analysis. Moreover， the new developed barite reference materials were used as matrix-matched standard to calibrate the barite samples from the huayangchuan carbonatite-hosted U-polymetallic deposit （Qinling orogenic belt， western China） to obtain δ34S values. Utilizing the temperature-dependent δ34S fractionation of barite-pyrite pair， we calculate the formation temperature of barite （i.e.， 506 to 537 ℃） and the δ34S value of mineralizing fluid （i.e.， -7.11‰ to -7.59 ‰） in the huayangchuan deposit. The results indicate an involvement of sedimentary sulfur， presumably acting as a potential uranium source （e.g.， upper crustal materials） for the giant huayangchuan deposit.

Integrated Analysis of Water Quality in Artificial Fishponds Using WQI and GIS in South-East Sierra Leone

Artificial fishponds play a pivotal role in global aquaculture, serving as a source of livelihood and nourishment for many communities. Ensuring the sustained health and productivity of Fishes in these environments relies heavily on water quality management. This assessment was done to determine the water quality of ten artificial fishponds in the south-eastern part of Sierra Leone using twelve physicochemical factors (ph, BoD, EC, TDS, turbidity, CoD, Fe2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Nh3, , and alkalinity) to find out the Water Quality Index (WQI) and spatial distribution of respective parameters. The assessment of artificial fishponds using WQI and Inverse Distant Weighting (IDW) integration represents a relatively underexplored area within the domain of environmental water resources. The WQI was determined using the “Weighted Arithmetic Water Quality Index’’ method. The results of WQI in the study area range from 65.05 to 147.26. Several locations have water quality deemed unsuitable for consumption, while others range from good to very poor. It is essential to address and improve water quality in locations categorized as unsuitable for consumption and very poor to ensure safe and healthy water sources. It was also clear from the calculation that the smaller the mean concentration value of the ph as compared to the ideal value (7), the smaller the WQI value and the better the water quality. To keep the artificial fishpond water in good condition, mass domestic use should be controlled, and draining of surrounding organic matter should be stopped in ponds Bo_001, Kenema_001, and Kenema_002.

The exploitation of groundwater by drilling in the Mitendi South-East district constitutes a solution to the water shortage in this peripheral part of the Mont-Ngafula township in Kinshasa, the capital of the DR Congo. Individuals exploit groundwater in boreholes to serve the population without taking into account certain necessary aspects such as the origin of the groundwater table and the quality which constitute the major problems of this work such as: What is the quantity of water from the recharge of our aquifer? What is the state of the Mitendi South-East aquifer water in relation to some physico-chemical parameters? The cardinal objective of this work is to provide chemical data and trace elements in each analyzed borehole and determine the type of recharge of the underground aquifer. The specific objectives are as follows: analyze the potability of groundwater on a physico-chemical level and their chemical facies, take the geographical coordinates of water samples from the aquifer in each targeted borehole in order to develop the sampling map of the area under study;also check each parameter analyzed in relation to Who standards. We carried out a general investigation of the study area by carrying out observations, sampling and in-situ measurements of each borehole, as well as the good conservation of the samples taken in a cooler. The various measurements that we took in-situ: ph, electrical conductivity, turbidity, salinity, temperature, and TDS were carried out by using a multi-parameter probe in the laboratory of appropriate methods such as titled-sorting, spectrophotometry, atomic absorption spectrometry, ArcGise and Excel software. With regard to the results from laboratory analysis (physical and chemical analysis), the parameters showed that the standards recommended by the Who were not respected. 俯冲带是地球上岩浆活动、高压—超高压变质作用、中深源地震、壳幔物质交换、元素循环和铜金大规模成矿的集中发生场所。富水流体不仅调控了这些地质作用,而且也深刻影响了全球C、S等挥发分的循环。当蚀变大洋岩石圈及上覆沉积物进入俯冲带中深部(15~300 km),伴随由葡萄石-绿纤石相至超高压榴辉岩相的递进变质作用,含水矿物在不同深度的分解造成流体释放为一连续过程。除极端高地温梯度环境之外,大多数俯冲带洋壳释放的流体为富水流体。但,俯冲带不同深度所产生的流体特征有明显差异。出露于全球造山带的高压—超高压变质地体保存了分凝体、脉体、水压致裂角砾岩等流体作用的有力证据,绿辉石、石榴子石、绿帘石等矿物中原生流体包裹体为流体的直接记录。在俯冲带中等深度(o_(3)^(2-)、So_(4)^(2-)、hS^(-)等组分,其所含Si、Al、Ca、Mg、Fe、Na主量元素溶质相当于海水中固化物量的2~3倍,并具大离子亲石元素(LILE)、轻元素(B、Li)富集和高场强元素(hFSE)亏损的特点。当深度≥65 km时,流体转化为类似于超临界性质的溶液,含Ch_(4)、C_(2)h_(6)、h_(2)S等挥发分,其所含主量元素溶质显著增加,微量元素除LILE等外,还负载相当量的hFSE和过渡族成矿元素。俯冲带65~100 km深度,为富水流体向超临界流体转变的区间。这种流体具有“亚超临界”性质,发生了氧化还原性质和元素溶解能力的渐变,并伴随硬柱石和角闪石的最终耗尽。高压变质岩石及相关脉体的o、Sr、Nd和金属同位素示踪研究表明俯冲带流体的源区多样,有蚀变基性洋壳、地幔橄榄岩和沉积物,并保存了海底热液蚀变作用的印迹。流体以脉冲方式沿网络状裂隙呈隧道式运移和传输,规模可达千米级,时间尺度在数月至数百年。目前通过高压—超高压变质岩的研究对俯冲带流体已经有了深入的了解,但展望未来,该领域依然有诸多争议和科学问题值得探索。
