Two simple and sensitive spectrophotometric methods for the determination of cefetamet in either pure form or in its pharmaceutical formulations were described. The method Ⅰ is based on the interaction of 3-methylbenzo[d]- thiazolin-2-one hydrazone （MBTH） with cefetamet in the presence of freshly prepared ferric chloride in a neutral medium. The resulting blue colored product has λmax at 628 nm. The method Ⅱ describes the reduction of ferric ion by the drug to ferrous ion followed by a complex formation reaction with 1,10-phenanthroline （1,10-phen） to form an orange red colored chromogen exhibiting 2max at 510 nm. The products are stable for more than 5 and 8 h respectively. Common excipients used as additives in pharmaceutical preparations do not interfere in the proposed methods. Both methods are highly reproducible and have been applied to a wide variety of pharmaceutical preparations and the results are comparable with those of official methods.

Aim: To evaluate the antifertility activity of various extracts of Crotalaria juncea seeds in male mice. Methods: Adult male mice were gavaged the petroleum ether, benzene and ethanol extracts of C. juncea seeds, 25 mg·(100g)-1·day-1 for 30 days. On day 31 the animals were sacrificed by cervical dislocation and the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, bulbourethral gland and levator ani were dissected out and weighed. The organs were processed for biochemical and histological examination. Results: In petroleum ether, benzene and ethanol extracts treated rats, there was a decrease in the weights of testis and accessory reproductive organs. The diameters of the testis and seminiferous tubules were decreased. Spermatogonia, spermatocytes and spermatids in the testis and the sperm count in cauda epididymis were also decreased. There was a significant reduction in the protein and glycogen contents and an increase in the cholesterol content in the testis, epididymis and vas deferens. Of the 3 extracts, the ethanol extract appeared to be the most potent in antispermatogenic activity. When the ethanol extract was tested in immature male mice, there was an antiandrogenic effect as the weights of accessory organs were reduced. Conclusion: The various extracts of C. juncea seeds arrest spermatogenesis and are likely to have an antiandrogenic activity.

The effects of viscous dissipation and heat source/sink on fully developed mixed convection for the laminar flow in a parallel-plate vertical channel are investigated. The plate exchanges heat with an external fluid. Both conditions of equal and different reference temperatures of the external fluid are considered. First, the simple cases of the negligible Brinkman number or the negligible Grashof number are solved analytically. Then, the combined effects of buoyancy forces and viscous dissipation in the presence of heat source/sink are analyzed by a perturbation series method valid for small values of the perturbation parameter. To relax the conditions on the perturbation parameter, the velocity and temperature fields are solved by using the Runge-Kutta fourth-order method with the shooting technique. The velocity, temperature, skin friction, and Nusselt num- bers at the plates are discussed numerically and presented through graphs.

Present study is a numerical investigation of the flow,heat and mass transfer behaviour of magnetohydrodynamic flow over a vertical rotating cone through porous medium in the presence of thermal radiation,chemical reaction and Soret ***,the numerical solutions are elucidated by using Runge-Kutta based shooting *** results are validated with open literature and found an excellent *** influence of non-dimensional governing parameters on velocity,temperature and concentration profiles along with the friction factor,local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are determined and discussed with the help of graphs and *** proved that the variable porosity parameter have tendency to enhance the heat and mass transfer *** increase in the buoyancy parameter depreciates the thermal and concentration boundary layer thicknesses.

Background: Typhoid fever is a major public health concern in developing countries. The upsurge in the occurrence of bacterial isolates that are resistant to nalidixic acid;with reduced susceptibility to ciprofloxacin in typhoidal Salmonellae constitutes a challenge to the clinician. Methods: In order to better understand the epidemiology of Salmonella infections in South india, Salmonella typhi isolates were screened from various healthcare centers. Salmonella isolates were identified by using standard phenotypic, serological, antibiotic susceptibility and molecular methods. Results: Among a total of 100 S. typhi isolates 9% were found to be multidrug resistant and 30% were nalidixic acid resistant. Isolates with reduced susceptibility to ciprofloxacin displays single base mutations in the gyrA gene. A very low rate of 1% resistance was found to ciprofloxacin. The only one isolate with ciprofloxacin MIC ≥ 4 μg/ml also showed single mutation in the QRDR of the gyrA gene in S. typhi (GenBank accession no. HQ176349-HQ176368). Conclusions: A very low rate of nalidixic acid resistance with reduced susceptibility to ciprofloxacin was observed in comparison to other endemic areas in isolates of S. typhi from gulbarga, South india, with steadily increasing NAR S. typhi but decreasing MDR isolations over the study period. This is most likely due to an increased use of ciprofloxacin as a first line drug of choice over more traditional antimicrobial agents for the treatment of typhoid fever.

Antifertility effect of ethanolic extract of Amalakyadi churna in male albino mice

Aim: To evaluate the antifertility activity of the ethanolic extract of Amalakyadi churna by oral administration in male albino mice. Methods: The ethanol extract of Amalakyadi churna at the dose of 250 mg/kg and 400 mg/ kg body weight was administered orally for 30 days to adult male mice. On day 31, the mice were sacrificed and the testis and accessory reproductive organs were removed and weighed. The organs were processed for biochemical estimation and histological work. Results: Treatment with Amalakyadi churna resulted in decrease in the weights of testis and accessory reproductive organs. The diameters of testis, seminiferous tubules and Leydig cell nucleus were decreased. The spermatogenic elements, like spermatogonia, spermatocytes and spermatids in the testis were reduced significantly as well as the sperm count in cauda epididymis. There was a significant reduction in the protein, glycogen, DNA and RNA contents and the activity of acid phosphatase in the testis of extract treated mice compared with the control. The cholesterol content and the alkaline phophatase activity were increased significantly in treated mice. Conclusion: Amalakyadi churna extract arrests spermatogenesis in male mice without noticeable side effects.

Purpose-One of the challenging issues in computer vision and pattern recognition is face image *** studies based on face recognition were introduced in the past decades,but it has few classification issues in terms of poor ***,the authors proposed a novel model for face ***/methodology/approach-The proposed method consists of four major sections such as data acquisition,segmentation,feature extraction and ***,the images are transferred into grayscale images,and they pose issues that are eliminated by resizing the input *** contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization(CLAHE)utilizes the image preprocessing step,thereby eliminating unwanted noise and improving the image contrast ***,the active contour and level set-based segmentation(ALS)with neural network(NN)or ALS with NN algorithm is used for facial image ***,the four major kinds of feature descriptors are dominant color structure descriptors,scale-invariant feature transform descriptors,improved center-symmetric local binary patterns(ICSLBP)and histograms of gradients(HOG)are based on clour and texture ***,the support vector machine(SVM)with modified random forest(MRF)model for facial image ***-Experimentally,the proposed method performance is evaluated using different kinds of evaluation criterions such as accuracy,similarity index,dice similarity coefficient,precision,recall and F-score ***,the proposed method offers superior recognition performances than other state-of-art *** face recognition was analyzed with the metrics such as accuracy,precision,recall and F-score and attained 99.2,96,98 and 96%,***/value-The good facial recognition method is proposed in this research work to overcome threat to privacy,violation of rights and provide better security of data.
