BACKGROUND： It has been shown that interleukin-1β（IL-1β） can induce fever by activating vascular endothelial cells and macrophages of the supraoptic crest to generate prostaglandin E2, which binds with receptors of the thermo-sensitive hypothalamic neurons. Lonicera japonica is one of the medicinal plants used widely in Asia for its antipyretic properties. However, these mechanisms have not yet been intensively studied. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the antipyretic effect and mechanisms of Lonicera japonica on IL-1β- induced febrile New Zealand rabbits by observing expression changes of E-type prostaglandin receptor-3 （EP3） mRNA in the preoptic anterior hypothalamus （POAH）. DESIGN： A randomized controlled study. SETTING： Electrophysiological Laboratory at the Department of Pathophysiology, Medical College of Jinan University; Department of Orthopaedics, First Hospital Affiliated to Medical College of Jinan University. MATERIALS： The experiment was performed from April to December 2005, using a total of 32 New Zealand white rabbits of both sexes, weighing 1.5 2.0 kg. All the animal experiments were performed according to the internationally accepted ethical guidelines. Lonicera japonica injection was purchased from Huanghe pharmaceutical factory of Xi＇an, China. IL-1βwas purchased from Sigma, USA. METHODS： A total of 32 rabbits were divided randomly into four groups： ① Normal saline （NS） control group;② Lonicerajaponica treatment group; ③ IL-1βtreatment group; and ④Lonicerajaponica plus IL-1βtreatment group. In the first 3 groups, the rabbits were given separate intravenous （i.v.） injections of l mL NS, l mL Lonicera japonica, and 100 ng IL-l β （dissolved in 0.9% NS without pyrogen）. In the Lonicerajaponica plus IL-1βgroup each rabbit was given i.v. injections of l mL NS and, 30 minutes later, 100 ng IL-1 β. The association of pollutants (nutrients, heavy metals and organic compounds) with colloidal and suspended particle matter(SPM) plays a dominant role in determining their transport, fate, biogeochemistry, bioavailability and toxicity in natural waters. A scheme for the fractionation and composition of colloidal and suspended particulate matter from river waters has been tested. Sieving, continuous flow centrifugation and tangential flow filtration were used to collect gram amounts of colloidal and particulate matters. The separation scheme was able to process large samples(100L), within reasonable times(1 day) and the apparatus was portable. The aquatic colloid was also separated with high resolution, and sized using sedimentation field\|flow fractionation technique. The mass\|based particle size distribution for the river water sample showed a broad size distribution between 0\^05 and 0\^4 μm with the maximum around 0\^14 μm. There was a systematic increase in the content of organic carbon, Mg, Ca, Na, Cu and Zn with decreasing particle size, highlighting the importance of the colloidal(<1 μm) fraction.

To counter the lack of consensus of opinion on mineralizations of Ta, Nb and W which have genetic relationship to fluorine-rich albite granite and the want of experimental evidence at present, some experiments reported in this study were carried out. AFLP and SCAR Markers Associated with Peel Color in Eggplant (Solanum melongena)

Peel color is an important breeding objective for eggplant. Dark purple and purplish red are the most common colors in commercial eggplant cultivars. A co-dominant amplified fragment length polymorphism （AFLP） marker which was associated with the peel color （each in coupling phase to dark purple and purplish red） was found in studying the genetic diversity in 58 eggplant accessions （contained cultivars and wild relatives）. The maker bands were sequenced and converted to SCAR marker, this polymorphism in sequence was from an inserted/deleted （indels） mutation. And DNA from 136 eggplant materials （inbred lines, F1, and wild relatives） were amplified with the designed SCAR primers as template, high correlation between the SCAR marker and peel color （dark purple and purplish red） was found. Then, bulked line analysis （BLA） combined with AFLP was further used to identify polymorphic fragments, and another six AFLP markers were tested and verified to be associated with peel color, which demonstrated that BLA was an useful method for identifying molecular markers of interested traits. In conclusion, these markers will facilitate the MAS （maker-assisted selection） of eggplant breeding for peel color.

Peony-like spinel Li4Ti5O12 was synthesized via calcination of precursor at the temperature of 400 ℃, and the precursor was prepared through a hydrothermal process in which the reaction of hydrous titanium oxide with lith- ium hydroxide was conducted at 180 ℃. The as-prepared product was investigated by SEM, TEM and XRD, re- spectively. As anode material for lithium ion battery, the Li4Ti5O12 obtained was also characterized by galvanostatic tests and cyclic voltammetry measurements. It is found that the peony-like Li4Ti5O12 exhibited high rate capability of 119.7 mAh·g ^-1 at 10 C and good capacity retention of 113.8 mAh·g ^-1 after 100 cycles at 5 C, and these results indicate the peony-like Li4Ti5O12 has promising applications for lithium ion batteries with high performance.

To guide the molecular design of the pH-sensitive triblock amphiphilic polymer MPEG-PAE-PLA and the for- mula design of its doxorubicine （DOX）-loaded micelles, dissipative particle dynamics （DPD） simulations are em- ployed to investigate the aggregation behaviors of the DOX-loaded micelles. The simulation results showed that the aggregate morphologies of micelles and DOX distribution are influenced by degree of polymerization of blocks, and the proposed structure of polymer is MPEG44-PAE3-PLA4. With different contents of polymer or DOX, differ- ent aggregate morphologies of the micelles, like microsphere, spindle/column, reticulation or lamella are observed. To prepare the micro-spherical DOX-loaded micelles, the polymer content is proposed as 10%--15%, and the DOX content less than 10%.
