Steric hindrance modulation of hexaazatribenzanthraquinone isomers for high-capacity and wide-temperature-range aqueous proton battery

Organic materials with rich active sites are good candidates of high-capacity anodes in aqueous batteries,but commonly low utilization of active sites limits their capacity.Herein,two isomers,symmetric and asymmetric hexaazatribenzanthraquinone（s-HATBAQ and a-HATBAQ）,with rich active sites have been synthesized in a controllable manner.It has been revealed for the first time that a sulfuric acid catalyst can facilitate the stereoselective formation of s-HATBAQ.Attributed to the reduced steric hindrance in favor of proton insertion as well as the amorphous structure conducive to electrochemical dynamics,s-HATBAQ exhibits 1.5 times larger specific capacity than a-HATBAQ.Consequently,the electrode of s-HATBAQ with50% reduced graphene oxide（s-HATBAQ-50%rGO） delivers a record high specific capacity of405 mAh g-1in H2SO4electrolyte.Moreover,the assembled MnO2//s-HATBAQ-50%rGO aqueous proton full batteries show an exceptional cycling stability at 25℃ and can maintain ～92% capacity after1000 cycles at 0.5 A g-1at-80℃.This work demonstrates the controllable synthesis of isomers,showcases a wide-temperature-range prototype proton battery and highlights the significance of precise mole cular structure modulation in organic energy storage.

Icariin ameliorates viral myocarditis by inhibiting TLR4-mediated ferroptosis

Objective:To explore the mechanism by which icariin alleviates viral myocarditis.Methods:CVB3-induced cardiomyocytes were used as an in vitro model of viral myocarditis to assess the effects of icariin treatment on cell viability,inflammation,and apoptosis.Moreover,the effects of icariin on ferroptosis and TLR4 signaling were assessed.After AC16 cells were transfected with TLR4 overexpression plasmids,the role of TLR4 in mediating the regulatory effect of icariin in viral myocarditis was investigated.Results:Icariin significantly elevated cell viability and reduced inflammatory factors TNF-α,IL-1β,IL-6,and IL-18.Flow cytometry revealed that icariin decreased apoptosis rate,and the protein expression of Bax and cleaved caspase 3 and 9 in CVB3-induced cardiomyocytes.Additionally,it suppressed ferroptosis including lipid peroxidation and ferrous ion,as well as the TLR4 signaling.However,TLR4 overexpression abrogated the modulatory effects of icariin.Conclusions:Icariin mitigates CVB3-induced myocardial injury by inhibiting TLR4-mediated ferroptosis.Further animal study is needed to verify its efficacy.

Insertion sequence transposition activates antimycobacteriophage immunity through an Isr2-silenced lipid metabolism gene island

Insertion sequences(ISs)exist widely in bacterial genomes,but their roles in the evolution of bacterial antiphage defense remain to be clarified.Here,we report that,under the pressure of phage infection,the IS1o96 transposition of Mycobacterium smegmatis into the Isr2 gene can occur at high frequencies,which endows the mutant mycobacterium with a broad-spectrum antiphage ability.Lsr2 functions as a negative regulator and directly silences expression of a gene island composed of 11 lipid metabolism-related genes.The complete or partial loss of the gene island leads to a significant decrease of bacteriophage adsorption to the mycobacterium,thus defending against phage infection.Strikingly,a phage that has evolved mutations in two tail-filament genes can re-escape from the Isr2 inactivation-triggered host defense.This study uncovered a new signaling pathway for activating antimycobacteriophage immunity by Is transposition and provided insight into the natural evolution of bacterial antiphage defense.

Fabrication of Silane and Desulfurization Ash Composite Modified Polyurethane and Its Interfacial Binding Mechanism

Polyurethane/desulfurization ash(PU/DA)composites were synthesized using"one-pot method",with the incorporation of a silane coupling agent(KH550)as a"molecular bridge"to facilitate the integration of DA as hard segments into the PU molecular chain.The effects of DA content(φ)on the mechanical properties,thermal stability,and hydrophobicity of PU,both before and after the addition of KH550,were thoroughly examined.The results of microscopic mechanism analysis confirmed that KH550 chemically modified the surface of DA,facilitating its incorporation into the polyurethane molecular chain,thereby significantly enhancing the compatibility and dispersion of DA within the PU matrix.When the mass fraction of modified DA(MDA)reached 12%,the mechanical properties,thermal stability,and hydrophobicity of the composites were substantially improved,with the tensile strength reaching 14.9 MPa,and the contact angle measuring 100.6°.

Coral records of Mid-Holocene sea-level highstands and climate responses in the northern South China Sea

High-resolution sea-level data and high-precision dating of corals in the northern South China Sea(SCS)during the Holocene provide a reference and historical background for current and future sea-level changes and a basis for scientific assessment of the evolutionary trend of coral reefs in the SCS.Although sporadic studies have been performed around Hainan Island in the northern SCS,the reconstructed sea level presents different values or is controversial because the indicative meaning of the sea-level indicators were neither quantified nor uniform criteria.Here,we determined the quantitative relationship between modern living coral and sea level by measuring the top surfaces of 27 live Porites corals from the inner reef flat along the east coast of Hainan Island and assessed the accuracy of results obtained using coral as sea-level indicators.Additionally,three in situ fossil Porites corals were analyzed based on elevation measurements,digital X-ray radiography,and U-Th dating.The survey results showed that the indicative meanings for the modern live Porites corals is(146.09±8.35)cm below the mean tide level(MTL).It suggested that their upward growth limit is constrained by the sea level,and the lowest low water is the highest level of survival for the modern live Porites corals.Based on the newly defined indicative meanings,6 new sea-level index points(SLIPs)were obtained and 19 published SLIPs were recalculated.Those SLIPs indicated a relative sea level fluctuation between(227.7±9.8)cm to(154.88±9.8)cm MTL between(5393±25)cal a BP and(3390±12)cal a BP,providing evidences of the Mid-Holocene sea-level highstand in the northern SCS.Besides that,our analysis demonstrated that different sea-level histories may be produced based on different indicative meanings or criteria.The dataset of 276 coral U-Th ages indicates that coral reef development in the northern SCS comprised the initial development,boom growth,decline,and flourishing development again.A comparison with regional records indicated that synergistic ef

Observational appearance and extra photon rings of an asymmetric thin-shell wormhole with a Bardeen profile

In this work,the optical appearance of an asymmetric thin-shell wormhole with a Bardeen profile is studied.To initiate the process,we need to construct an asymmetric thin-shell wormhole utilizing the cut-and-paste technique proposed by Visser and subsequently ascertain its pertinent physical quantities such as the radius of the photon sphere and critical impact parameters for different values of magnetic charge g.Then,the effective potential and motion behavior of photons are also investigated within the framework of asymmetric thin-shell wormholes with a Bardeen profile.It can be found that the effective potential,ray trajectory,and azimuthal angle of the thin-shell wormhole exhibit a strong correlation with the mass ratio of black holes.By considering the accretion disk as the sole background light source,we observe additional photon rings and lensing bands in the optical appearance of the asymmetric thin-shell wormhole with a Bardeen profile compared to those exhibited by the Bardeen black hole.One can find that there is an increase in the size of the specific additional light bands with increasing magnetic charge g,which is different from the black hole case.These exceptionally luminous rings can serve as a robust criterion for the identification and characterization of the thin-shell wormhole spacetime.

Ethical Decision-Making Framework Based on Incremental ILP Considering Conflicts

Humans are experiencing the inclusion of artificial agents in their lives,such as unmanned vehicles,service robots,voice assistants,and intelligent medical care.If the artificial agents cannot align with social values or make ethical decisions,they may not meet the expectations of humans.Traditionally,an ethical decision-making framework is constructed by rule-based or statistical approaches.In this paper,we propose an ethical decision-making framework based on incremental ILP(Inductive Logic Programming),which can overcome the brittleness of rule-based approaches and little interpretability of statistical approaches.As the current incremental ILP makes it difficult to solve conflicts,we propose a novel ethical decision-making framework considering conflicts in this paper,which adopts our proposed incremental ILP system.The framework consists of two processes:the learning process and the deduction process.The first process records bottom clauses with their score functions and learns rules guided by the entailment and the score function.The second process obtains an ethical decision based on the rules.In an ethical scenario about chatbots for teenagers’mental health,we verify that our framework can learn ethical rules and make ethical decisions.Besides,we extract incremental ILP from the framework and compare it with the state-of-the-art ILP systems based on ASP(Answer Set Programming)focusing on conflict resolution.The results of comparisons show that our proposed system can generate better-quality rules than most other systems.

Dark Matter Search in Dwarf Irregular Galaxies with Ten Years of Data from the Ice Cube Neutrino Observatory

Dwarf irregular galaxies(dIrrs),as rotationally supported systems,have more reliable J-factor measurements than dwarf spheroidal galaxies and have received attention as targets for dark matter detection in recent years.In this paper,we use 10 yr of IceCube muon-track data and an unbinned maximum-likelihood-ratio method to search for neutrino signals beyond the background from the directions of seven dIrrs,aiming to detect neutrinos produced by heavy annihilation dark matter.We do not detect any significant signal.Based on such null results,we calculate the upper limits on the velocity-averaged annihilation cross section for 1 TeV–10 PeV dark matter.Our limits,although weaker than the strictest constraints in the literature in this mass range,are also a good complement to the existing results considering the more reliable J-factor measurements of dIrrs.

Revealing interfacial charge redistribution of homologous Ru-RuS_(2) heterostructure toward robust hydrogen oxidation reaction

Precisely tailoring the surface electronic structures of electrocatalysts for optimal hydrogen binding energy and hydroxide binding energy is vital to improve the sluggish kinetics of hydrogen oxidation reac-tion(HOR).Herein,we employ a partial desulfurization strategy to construct a homologous Ru-RuS_(2) heterostructure anchored on hollow mesoporous carbon nanospheres(Ru-RuS_(2)@C).The disparate work functions of the heterostructure contribute to the spontaneous formation of a unique built-in electric field,accelerating charge transfer and boosting conductivity of electrocatalyst.Consequently,Ru-RuS_(2)@C exhibits robust HOR electrocatalytic activity,achieving an exchange current density and mass activity as high as 3.56 mA cm^(-2) and 2.13 mAμg_(Ru)^(-1),respectively.exceeding those of state-of-the-art Pt/C and most contemporary Ru-based HOR electrocatalysts.Surprisingly,Ru-RuS_(2)@C can tolerate 1000 ppm of cO that lacks in Pt/C.Comprehensive analysis reveals that the directional electron transfer across Ru-RuS_(2) heterointerface induces local charge redistribution in interfacial region,which optimizes and balances the adsorption energies of H and OH species,as well as lowers the energy barrier for water formation,thereby promoting theHoR performance.

Design and prototyping of the readout electronics for the transition radiation detector in the high energy cosmic radiation detection facility

The high energy cosmic-radiation detection(HERD)facility is planned to launch in 2027 and scheduled to be installed on the China Space Station.It serves as a dark matter particle detector,a cosmic ray instrument,and an observatory for high-energy gamma rays.A transition radiation detector placed on one of its lateral sides serves dual purpose,(ⅰ)calibrating HERD's electromagnetic calorimeter in the TeV energy range,and(ⅱ)serving as an independent detector for high-energy gamma rays.In this paper,the prototype readout electronics design of the transition radiation detector is demonstrated,which aims to accurately measure the charge of the anodes using the SAMPA application specific integrated circuit chip.The electronic performance of the prototype system is evaluated in terms of noise,linearity,and resolution.Through the presented design,each electronic channel can achieve a dynamic range of 0–100 fC,the RMS noise level not exceeding 0.15 fC,and the integral nonlinearity was<0.2%.To further verify the readout electronic performance,a joint test with the detector was carried out,and the results show that the prototype system can satisfy the requirements of the detector's scientific goals.
