By the Grignard reaction of 1,1-di-deutero-1-bromobutane with phthalaldehydic acid 1',1'-di-deutero-3-n-butyl phthalide was obtained, which underwent a rearrangement reaction using AlCl3 as catalyst in CS2 to give 1-methyl-5-carboxy-3,4-di-deutero-tetrahydronaphthalene. The mechanism was proposed to be a series of consecutive 1,2- hydride transfers rather than a direct 1,4-hydride transfer.

AIM To study the effect of leukocyteendothelium interaction (LEI) on the flow anddistribution of leukocytes in microcirculationunder physiological *** A microcirculation image multipleparameter computer analysis system (MIMPCAS)was used to study the flow and distribution ofleukocytes in mesentery microcirculation of ratsIn *** The difference of visible leukocyteflux (VLF) was as high as 131 times in thearterioles and venules with similar diameter andblood velocity. The visible leukocytes rolledalong the blood vessel wall as a" jerky"movement. The frequency distribution of thevisible leukocyte velocity (VLV) showed a "twopeak" Curve. BACKGROUND: Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) features fatal pathogenetic conditions and high mortality rate. The study of SAP complicated with multiple organ injuries is of important significance. In this study, we explored the protective effect of baicalin on multiple organs of SAP rats and compared it with that of octreotide through light and electron microscopic observations of the pathological changes. METHODS: The improved Aho method was used to prepare SAP rat models. These rats were then randomly divided into a sham-operated group (n=45), a model control group (n=45), baicalin-treated group (n=45) and octreotide-treated group (n=45). Based on the difference in time points after operation, these groups were subdivided into 3, 6 and 12 hour subgroups (n=15). At the corresponding time point after operation, the mortality rate of rats was recorded, and then the rats were humanely killed to take samples of multiple organs that were subsequently examined for pathological changes under light and electron microscopy. RESULTS: At 12 hours after operation, the mortality rate of rats in the baicalin- and octreotide-treated groups was lower than that in the model control group (P < 0.05). Compared to the model control group, the pathological changes and pathological scores in the baicalin- and octreotide-treated groups were mitigated and relieved to varying degrees. The pathological changes under electron microscopy were also improved. CONCLUSIONS: Both baicalin and octreotide show good protective effects on multiple organs of SAP rats. Baicalin as a new drug has good prospects in the treatment of SAP.

Profiling gene expression patterns of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and normal nasopharynx tissues with cDNA microarray

5 μg of total RNAs from normal nasopharynx and nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue have been labeled with α-32P-dCTP during reverse transcription. The synthesized cDNA probes have been hybridized to high-density cDNA microarray containing 5184 genes or expression sequence tags (ESTs). Then image analysis software has been applied to comparing their expression profiles. Results show that 187 ESTs were of density value above 200 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue while there were 307 such ESTs in normal nasopharynx tissue; 38 ESTs were strongly expressed in nasopharynx, but weakly expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma; 48 ESTs were strongly expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but weakly expressed in normal nasopharynx. These results suggest that there may exist some new differentially expressed genes involved in nasopharyngeal carcinoma development. Furthermore, the results strongly indicate that high-density cDNA microarray is a powerful and efficient tool for large-scale screening differentially
