Effect of Complex Parameters of Porous Media on Desalination Performance in Air-Gap Diffusion Distillation Based on Multiple Regression Analysis

Air-Gap Diffusion Distillation(AGDD) is a new technology aiming at solving the problem of the safety of drinking water for residents in remote areas that uses a super hydrophilic porous medium as the hot channel and evaporation surface. In the experiment, it was found that the parameters of porous media have a significant influence on the desalination(evaporation) efficiency of AGDD. Although porous media are widely used as evaporation components, the factors affecting their evaporation efficiency are not fully understood. The evaporation process in super hydrophilic porous media is rarely discussed. A large number of experiments have been carried out based on AGDD. The introduction of statistical methods solves the problem that experiments cannot distinguish the contribution of complex parameters of porous media to evaporation efficiency. Stepwise regression analysis is used to reduce the dimensionality of the independent variables and construct regression equations(coefficient of determination R~2 reached 81.3%-96.8%). Evaporation flux correlations and dimensionless mass transfer correlations are established based on porous media parameters. We found that the surface evaporation of super hydrophilic porous media can be divided into three stages: diffusion evaporation, capillary evaporation, and thermal evaporation. The evaporation efficiency of these three stages is controlled by the vapor diffusion process resistance, capillary force, and energy supply. At low saturation, evaporation efficiency is limited by the resistance of the vapor diffusion process. The evaporation efficiency of the porous media is affected predominantly by the pore size, the specific surface area, porosity and the characteristic length. At high saturation, the evaporation efficiency becomes influenced primarily by the permeability. A small thickness and a high hydrophilicity also improve the evaporation efficiency.

Bycatch poses a severe challenge to global fishery *** studies have focused on marine megafauna bycatch,research on relevant issues regarding invertebrates is limited,particularly for the threatened horseshoe *** this study,the distribution of fishing gears and the bycatch intensity of Asian horseshoe crabs in the intertidal zones of the northern Beibu Gulf that harbors the most abundant juvenile Asian horseshoe crabs populations in China were *** intertidal nursery habitats for Tachypleus tridentatus and Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda were surveyed from May to July in 2021.A transect that crossed the tidal creeks and tidal flats between the high tide embankment/vegetation and low tide line of a given habitat was surveyed during the ebb *** type,number,and GPS of fishing gears were recorded when sighted,and the number and prosomal width of each horseshoe crab species were *** intensities differed among habitats,ranging from 0.3 to 18.4 and 1.2 to 22.7 individuals per kilometer of transect for *** and ***,*** the three identified fishing gear types,ground cages and stick net sets caused a stronger bycatch pressure on these two *** *** bycatch and *** bycatch were large individuals in late juvenile and adult ***,the ground cages and stick net sets along/near the tidal creeks,mangrove fringe,and low tide line should be regulated and removed to ensure the functionality of the intertidal zone as the spawning corridor and nursery habitat of Asian horseshoe crabs.

Accurately and directly characterizing the thermal properties of graphene and thin-graphite films(GFs)is of fundamental importance for understanding the heat transport mechanism and of practical interest in possible applications of thermal ***,due to the lack of experiment data,the mechanism of the thickness dependence of GFs thermal properties has not been fully understood *** this study,a 90-nm-thick GF is characterized by the time-domain thermoreflectance method,and the obtained GFs in-plane thermal conductivity and interfacial thermal conductance between GFs and gold are(1354±297)W/(m·K)and(38±6)MW/(m^(2)·K),*** theoretical models are also applied for comparison and discussion,and we conclude that the influence from the surface perturbation by supporting materials on the phonon transport of graphite nano-films will beyond the near surface layers to the more inner *** work not only provides a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of the thermal transport size effect in GFs,but also facilitates the possible applications of GFs as heat spreaders in the future.

Background:The adjustment of sex ratios in birds can occur at the egg and nestling stages. Previous studies showed that the sex ratio was affected by environmental factors and parental condition; it may result in seasonal and ecosystem ***:In this study, the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia(Prinia flaviventris) in the Nonggang area, guangxi, southwestern China, was investigated during the breeding season from May to June in 2013 using PCR amplification from whole-genome DNA extracted from blood samples. A total of 31 nests of Yellow-bellied Prinia, including 132 brood fledglings and 31 pairs, were ***:The results showed that the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia was 1:1, and sex ratios of different nests were evenly distributed within the study area. No significant relationship was found between parental quality and nest characteristics with the brood sex ***:The present study indicated that no brood sex ratio bias in the Yellow-bellied Prinia highlighted the complexity of sex ratio adjustment in birds. In spite of our negative results, the lack of an association between brood sex ratio and parental quality and environmental factors in the Yellow-bellied Prinia provides valuable information on the adjustment of sex ratios in birds.

Dear Editor,earCultor,Soybean is a crucial source of protein for both humans and livestock and a vital oilseed *** 2010,the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute released the first version of the soybean cultivar genome Williams 82(Schmutz et al.,2010).Since then,numerous soybean genomes have been assembled and annotated,including wild species,cultivars,landraces,and pangenomic assemblies(Shen et al.,2018;Xie et al.,2019;Liu et al.,2020).The Chinese soybean cultivar "Zhonghuang 13"(ZH13),which is widely used in China for its high yield and stress resistance,represents a genetic signature of Asian soybean and is the most complete soybean genome assembled using thirdgeneration sequencing technology(Shen et al.,2019).These genomes have facilitated the study of molecular mechanisms and gene regulation,hastening soybean ***,there are still many gaps in these soybean genomes,particularly in the centromere and telomere regions,which have not been assembled and annotated,hindering the development of soybean genomes and functional genomic research.

To study the effectiveness of hydrofoil surface water injection on cavitation suppression,the unsteady cavitation flow field around the NACA0066 hydrofoil at attack angle of 6°was simulated by the modified RNG k-εturbulence model combined with the full-cavitation *** structure of cavitation flow field and the hydrodynamic performance of hydrofoil were analyzed at the cavitation number of 0.85,0.70,0.55,*** results show that barriered by the jet,the momentum of the reentrant jet was reduced;The development of cavitation and the strength of cavity shedding were weakened to some *** suppression effect was very obvious in the cavitation conditions with the cavitation number of 0.7 and above when the injection position was at 37% chord length from the hydrofoil leading edge and the jet-flow ratio kept ***-averaged lift and drag coefficient were reduced,and the lift-drag ratio increased in water injection conditions.

Experimental Study on Mechanical Properties of Gas Hydrate-Bearing Sediments Using Kaolin Clay

A triaxial system is designed with a temperature range from -20 ℃ to 25℃ and a pressure range from 0 MPa to 30 MPa in order to improve the understanding of the mechanical properties of gas hydrate-bearing sediments. The mechanical properties of synthetic gas hydrate-bearing sediments （gas hydrate-kaolin clay mixture） were measured by using current experimental apparatus. The results indicate that：（1） the failure strength of gas hydrate-bearing sediments strongly depends on the temperature. The sediment＇s strength increases with the decreases of temperature. （2） The maximum deviator stress increases linearly with the confining pressure at a low-pressure stage. However, it fluctuates at a high-pressure stage. （3） Maximum deviator stress increases with increasing strain rate, whereas the strain-stress curve has no tremendous change until the axial strain reaches approximately 0.5%. （4） The internal friction angles of gas hydrate-bearing sediments are not sensitive to kaolin volume ratio. The cohesion shows a high kaolin volume ratio dependency.
