Numerical simulation of hydrodynamic environment effects of the reclamation project of Nanhui tidal flat in Yangtze Estuary

The reclamation is the main method in the coast exploitation, and the assessment of the hydrodynamic environment effect of the reclamation project is important for project's site selection and environmental protection. With consideration of the baroclinic water, a 3?D numerical model MIKE3 is applied to simulate Yangtze Estuary's hydrodynamic environment to predict the impacts of the reclamation project of the Nanhui tidal flat. The simulated results of the model agree well with the field data of the tide level, the current speed, the current direction, the temperature, the salinity and the water quality, and it is indicated that after the reclamation project, the high tide level will be lower, while the low tide level will be higher in the South Branch in general. During the spring tide in the dry season, the peak velocity during the ebb tide in the North Channel will be reduced by 13%, while it will be increased by 21% in the South Channel in average. The salinity will be increased in the North Channel, while reduced in the South Passage, besides, the reclamation project will aggravate the saltwater intrusion of the North Branch. The value of N/P will be increased by about 4% in the whole South Branch except for the North Channel, leading to a slight aggravation of the phosphorus restriction effect in the Yangtze Estuary.

Five-channel frequency-division multiplexing using low-loss epsilon-near-zero metamaterial waveguide

The rapidly growing global data usage has demanded more efficient ways to utilize the scarce electromagnetic spectrum resource. Recent research has focused on the development of efficient multiplexing techniques in the millimeter-wave band(1-10 mm, or 30-300 GHz) due to the promise of large available bandwidth for future wireless networks. Frequency-division multiplexing is still one of the most commonly-used techniques to maximize the transmission capacity of a wireless *** on the frequency-selective tunnelling effect of the low-loss epsilon-near-zero metamaterial waveguide, we numerically and experimentally demonstrate five-channel frequency-division multiplexing and demultiplexing in the millimeter-wave *** show that this device architecture offers great flexibility to manipulate the filter Q-factors and the transmission spectra of different channels, by changing of the epsilon-near-zero metamaterial waveguide topology and by adding a standard waveguide between two epsilon-near-zero channels. This strategy of frequency-division multiplexing may pave a way for efficiently allocating the spectrum for future communication networks.

Effective enrichment of Zn from smelting wastewater via an integrated Fe coagulation and hematite precipitation method

Coagulation is commonly applied to treat Zn-bearing wastewater from smelting industries(smelting wastewater),and thus the Zn-bearing sludge was considerably produced,which should be solidified before safety ***,we demonstrated a novel approach to recycle Zn effectively from smelting wastewater via an integrated Fe coagulation and hematite precipitation ***,smelting wastewater was coagulated by adding ferric chloride to generate Fe/Zn-bearing sludge(sludge for short).Secondly,the sludge was dissolved to generate an acid solution containing 2.2 g/L of Zn and 39.2 g/L of ***,the Fe/Zn-bearing solution was hydrothermally treated,and 89%of Fe was eliminated to highly purified hematite block,whereas the percentage of Zn lost was below 1.1%.Finally,the hematite precipitates were collected,and the supernatant was hydrothermally treated again with the addition of *** the molar ratio of glucose to Fe in the supernatant was 1.5,over 99.5%of Fe was precipitated in hematite nanoparticles with a diameter of 10-100 nm,and the residual Fe was 21.5 mg/*** loss of Zn was below 0.4%,and the residual Zn in the solution was 2169 mg/L,290 times of that in the smelting *** major mechanism for Fe removal was the hydrolysis of ferric nitrate into hematite,which was promoted by nitrate consumption in glucose *** paper is the first report of an environment-friendly method for enriching Zn without generating any waste.

Cobalt-rich perovskite oxides play a paramount role in catalyzing oxygen evolution reaction(OER)on account of their acceptable intrinsic activity but are still challenging due to the high costs and undesired *** response to the defects,herein,the Mg-incorporated perovskite cobaltite SrCo_(0.6)Fe_(0.3M)g_(0.1)O_(3-δ)(SCFM-0.1)is proposed as a novel earth-abundant and durable OER electrocatalyst.A well-consolidated cubic-symmetry structure and more active oxygen intermediates are enabled upon Mg ***,the optimized SCFM-0.1 perovskite oxide achieves prominent OER electrocatalytic performance,that is,a low overpotential of only 320 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2),a small Tafel slope of 65 mV dec^(-1),as well as an outstanding durability within 20 h,substantially outperforming that of the pristine SrCo_(0.7)Fe_(0.3)O_(3-δ)and benchmark Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Co_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)O_(3-δ)and IrO_(2) *** strong pHdependent behavior associated with lattice oxygen activation mechanism for SCFM-0.1 catalyst is also *** work paves a unique avenue to develop cost-effective and robust perovskite cobaltites for efficient OER electrocatalysis.

On the turbulent heat fluxes:A comparison among satellite-based estimates,atmospheric reanalyses,and in-situ observations during the winter climate over Arctic sea ice

The surface energy budget is crucial for Arctic sea ice mass balance calculation and climate systems,among which turbulent heat fluxes significantly affect the airesea exchanges of heat and moisture in the atmospheric boundary *** observations(*** and APPX)and atmospheric reanalyses(e.g.,ERA5)are often used to represent components of the energy budget at regional and pan-Arctic ***,the uncertainties of the satellite-based turbulent heat fluxes are largely unknown,and cross-comparisons with reanalysis data and insitu observations are *** this study,satellite-based turbulent heat fluxes were assessed against in-situ observations from the N-ICE2015 drifting ice station(north of Svalbard,JanuaryeJune 2015)and ERA5 *** turbulent heat fluxes were calculated by two approaches using the satellite-based ice surface temperature and radiative fluxes,surface atmospheric parameters from ERA5,and snow/sea ice thickness from the pan-Arctic Ice Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System(PIOMAS).We found that the bulk-aerodynamic formula based results could better capture the variations of turbulent heat fluxes,while the maximum entropy production based estimates are comparable with ERA5 in terms of root-mean-square error(RMSE).CERES-based estimates outperform the APP-X-based ones but ERA5 performs the best in all seasons(RMSE of 18 and 7 W m^(-2)for sensible and latent heat flux,respectively).The aireice temperature/humidity differences and the surface radiation budget were found the primary driving factors in the bulk-formula method and maximum entropy production(MEP)method,***,errors in the surface and near-surface temperature and humidity explain almost 50%of the uncertainties in the estimates based on the bulk-formula,whereas errors in the net radiative fluxes explain more than 50%of the uncertainties in the MEP-based results.

Reduction of global natural gas hydrate(NGH)resource estimation and implications for the NGH development in the South China Sea

There have been at least 29 groups of estimates on the global natural gas hydrate(NGH)resource since1973,varying greatly with up to 10,000 times and showing a decreasing trend with *** the South China Sea(SCS),35 groups of estimations were conducted on NGH resource potential since 2000,while these estimates kept almost the same with time,varying between 60 and 90 billion tons of oil equivalent(toe).What are the key factors controlling the variation trend?What are the implications of these variations for the NGH development in the world and the SCS?By analyzing the investigation characteristics of NGH resources in the world,this study divided the evaluation process into six stages and confirmed four essential factors for controlling the variations of *** indicated that the reduction trend reflects an improved understanding of the NGH formation mechanism and advancement in the resource evaluation methods,and promoted more objective evaluation ***,the analysis process and improved evaluation method was applied to evaluate the NGH resources in the SCS,showing the similar decreasing trend of NGH resources with *** utilizing the decreasing trend model,the predicted recoverable resources in the world and the SCS are(205-500)×10^(12)m^(3)and(0.8-6.5)×10^(12)m^(3),respectively,accounting for 20%of the total conventional oil and gas *** NGH resource in the SCS is only about 4%-6%of the previous estimates of 60-90 billion *** extracted completely,it only can support the sustainable development of China for 7 years at the current annual consumption level of oil and *** cannot be the main energy resource in future due to its low resource potential and lack of advantages in recovery.

Full time-domain nonlinear coupled dynamic analysis of a truss spar and its mooring/riser system in irregular wave

A new full time-domain nonlinear coupled method has been established and then applied to predict the responses of a Truss Spar in irregular *** the coupled analysis,a second-order time-domain approach is developed to calculate the wave forces,and a finite element model based on rod theory is established in three dimensions in a global coordinate *** numerical implementation,the higher-order boundary element method(HOBEM)is employed to solve the velocity potential,and the 4th-order Adams-Bashforth-Moultn scheme is used to update the second-order wave *** deriving convergent solutions,the hull displacements and mooring tensions are kept consistent at the fairlead and the motion equations of platform and mooring-lines/risers are solved simultaneously using Newmark-integration scheme including Newton-Raphson *** the coupled quasi-static analysis and the coupled dynamic analysis are *** numerical simulation results are also compared with the model test results,and they coincide very well as a *** slow-drift responses can be clearly observed in the time histories of displacements and mooring *** important characteristics of the coupled responses are concluded.

Separation of Atmospheric Circulation Patterns Governing Regional Variability of Arctic Sea Ice in Summer

In recent decades,Arctic summer sea ice extent(SIE)has shown a rapid decline overlaid with large interannual variations,both of which are influenced by geopotential height anomalies over Greenland(GL-high)and the central Arctic(CA-high).In this study,SIE along coastal Siberia(Sib-SIE)and Alaska(Ala-SIE)is found to account for about 65%and 21%of the Arctic SIE interannual variability,*** in Ala-SIE is related to the GL-high,whereas variability in Sib-SIE is related to the CA-high.A decreased Ala-SIE is associated with decreased cloud cover and increased easterly winds along the Alaskan coast,promoting ice-albedo feedback.A decreased Sib-SIE is associated with a significant increase in water vapor and downward longwave radiation(DLR)along the Siberian *** years 2012 and 2020 with minimum recorded ASIE are used as *** to climatology,summer 2012 is characterized by a significantly enhanced GL-high with major sea ice loss along the Alaskan coast,while summer 2020 is characterized by an enhanced CA-high with sea ice loss focused along the Siberian *** 2012,the lack of cloud cover along the Alaskan coast contributed to an increase in incoming solar radiation,amplifying ice-albedo feedback there;while in 2020,the opposite occurs with an increase in cloud cover along the Alaskan coast,resulting in a slight increase in sea ice *** the Siberian coast,increased DLR in 2020 plays a dominant role in sea ice loss,and increased cloud cover and water vapor both contribute to the increased DLR.

Synergetic effects of blended materials for Lithium-ion batteries

LiNi_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)O_2, LiMn_2O_4 and LiCoO_2 are paired to make the blended materials for the cathode of lithium-ion batteries. The factors impacting on the characteristics of blended materials are studied using constant current charge/discharge measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results show that the three pairs of blended materials exhibit very different synergetic effects in high C-rate discharging. The mechanism of particle synergetic effect has a physical root on the compensating material property of blending components, which fundamentally correlates with their similarity and difference in crystalline and electronic structures. The AC impedance show the obvious changes that alternate the high C-rate performance, due to reduced particle impedance in blended materials. The pairs of LiNi_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)O_2-LiMn_2O and LiCoO_2-LiMn_2O_4 present obvious increases in high C-rate reversible capacities than does the pair LiCoO_2-LiNi_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)O_2.
