Objective: To determine the effects of hawthorn extract on serum lipid levels, pathological changes in aortic atherosclerosis plaque, inflammatory factors, and apoptosis-related protein and mRNA expression in apolipoprotein E gene knockout(ApoE^(-/-)) mice. Methods: Thirty-six ApoE^(-/-) mice were fed with a high-fat diet starting at the age of 8 weeks. Mice were randomly divided into 3 groups by a random number table including model group, hawthorn extract group, and simvastatin group, 12 mice in each group. Twelve 8-week-old C57BL/6 mice were fed a basic diet and served as control. The mice in the control and model groups were administered 0.2 mL saline daily, the mice in the hawthorn extract and simvastatin groups were administered with 50 mg/kg hawthorn extract or 5 mg/kg simvastatin daily for 16 weeks. After 16 weeks, plasma lipids including total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) were determined by an enzymatic assay. Aortic atherosclerotic lesions were observed by light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. Plasma levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1), interleukin-1β(IL-1β), adiponectin(APN), and hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Protein and mRNA expressions of Bax and Bcl-2 in the aorta were assessed by Western blotting and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qR T-PCR), respectively. Results: Compared to the control group, the plasma levels of TC, TG and LDL-C were significantly increased and HDL-C were significantly decreased in the model group(Pment with hawthorn extract significantly decreased the plasma levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C and increased the plasma level of HDL-C in ApoE^(-/-)mice(P<0.01). Clinical Observation on Physiological and Psychological Effects of Eight-Section Brocade on Type 2 Diabetic Patients

Objective： To observe the physiological and psychological changing of type 2 diabetic patients after practicing Eight-Section Brocade, to evaluate the clinical curative effect, and to provide a safe and effective self-regulating method for type 2 diabetic patients. Methods： This study is a random controlled trial, the 54 type 2 diabetic patients were randomly assigned into the intervention and the control group. The intervention group was given a 2-month period of Eight-Section Brocade practice, then a comparison between groups was made. The intervention group continued to do Eight-Section Brocade practice for 2 months, so it was 4 months＇ intervention all together for this group, and then a comparison within the intervention group was made. Results： There was significant difference 4 months later on HbAlc in the intervention group （P〈0.05）. There was significant difference between the intervention and control groups on obsessive-compulsive, depression, anxiety and hostility scores after 2 months＇ practice （P〈0.05）. There was significant difference between 2 and 4 months＇ practice on hostilities scores within the intervention group （P〈0.05）. Conclusions： As an important part of the traditional Chinese medicine, Eight-section Brocade has physiological and psycholozical effects on type 2 Diabetic Patients.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the influence and mechanism of salvianolic acid B(SalB) on apoptosis inhibition in rat bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) induced by hypoxia and serum deprivation(hypoxia/SD).METHODS:SalB concentration of 0.1,1,10 or 100 mg/L(drug groups) were investigated for their ability to inhibit apoptosis in rat *** in both the apoptosis model and drug groups were cultured under hypoxic conditions for 6 h,after which cell apoptosis and change in mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) were detected using flow *** of caspase-3 was detected using western blot ***:Hypoxia/SD induced apoptosis in rat *** early apoptosis rate was lower in the drug groups compared to the apoptosis model group(P<0.05).SalB was found to inhibit the reduction in MMP and decrease the activation of ***:0.1,1 and 10 mg/L of SalB inhibits activation of caspase-3 and early apoptosis of rat BMSCs induced by hypoxia/SD and could therefore enhance the survival rate of grafted stem cells.

The authors summarized the application of traditional Chinese medicine to the management of hepatic cancerous pain in Beijing and Shanghai, and in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces. The therapeutic principle was to invigorate blood circulation and reduce stasis and to soothe the liver and regulate qi, so as to dredge the channels and collaterals. The results were satis-factory.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy and safety of different dosages of modified Zhibaidihuang decoction(MZBDD) on polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) hyperandrogenism(HA) ***: Ninety PCOS HA patients and 30 infertile patients due to tubal factor were selected. Ninety PCOS HA patients were randomly divided into three groups: low dosage group(LDG), medium dosage group(MDG) and high dosage group(HDG) and infertile patients were selected as normal control group(NCG). PCOS HA patients were treated with different dosage of MZBDD for 4 weeks. For HA patients, serum total testosterone(T), estrodial(E2), follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), luteinizing hormone(LH), prolatin(PRL), alanine aminotransferase(AST), aspartate amino transferase(AST) were determined before and after treatment, while acne scores(Rosenfield) were signed. Basal body temperatures(BBT) were asked to be measured every day. And for the else, T, E2,FSH, LH, PRL, AST, and AST were determined before ***: Totally 111 patients completed the clinical research. There were no differences among the four groups on serum T before treatment(P =0.221). Serum T concentration of both MDG and HDG after treatment significantly were lower than that of before treatment(P = 0.039, P = 0.000),while there was no obvious difference in LDG(P =0.829). Serum T concentration of both MDG and HDG were significantly lower than that of LDG after treatment(P = 0.048, P = 0.006). To compared with before treatment, there were no differences in Serum FSH, LH, E2, P and PRL among the three groups(LDG, MDG, HDG)(as for FSH, P = 0.136, P = 0.503,P = 0.062; as for LH, P = 0.473, P = 0.513, P = 0.096;as for E2, P = 0.206, P = 0.927, P = 0.076; as for PRL,P = 0.120, P = 0.903, P = 0.407, as for P, P = 0.308, P =0.866, P = 0480). Acne scores of all the three groups were obviously lower than that of before treatment(P = 0.031; P = 0.033; P = 0.002). 39.5% of the patients had biphasic BBT, but there were no differences among the
