Several abiotic and biotic factors were investigated as possible predictors of local species richness in two sub-alpine grasslands of Jenna and Belles Mountains in Northern *** species richness modelling a hierarchical modelling framework based on generalized additive models was *** two sub-alpine grasslands differed in aspect,altitude and soil parent material(volcanic origin,mostly trachyte,and andesite(TA) for Jenna and metamorphic rocks,mostly gneiss(G) for Belles).12 fenced squared plots,16 m2 each,were used per grassland,where soil properties,herbage production,species presence and cover of grasses,legumes and forbs were *** herbage production was significantly affected by slope and altitude,soil K content and floristic composition as expressed by an ordination *** p H,floristic composition and average herbage production were significant predictors of forbs and total species *** the former,soil N content and for the latter the occurrence of Agrostis capillaris,were also included as significant terms in the predictive *** for grasses species richness were N content,having a positive effect,and average herbage *** all cases higher species richness was predicted for intermediate values of average herbage *** responses were found between forbs and *** predictors of their species richness were different while for the case of the common predictor(N) the responses of the two groups were also different(grasses species numbers increase and forbs species numbers decreased with increasing N).Maximum species richness of grasses was observed at relatively low production levels while forbs species richness maximized at relatively high production levels.

Knowledge on the Villafranchian faunas of greece was limited for a long time,but over the past 3 decades several new fossiliferous sites have been discovered and new material has been *** carnivores constitute a remarkable part of this material and their study has provided useful information for the taxonomy,chronology and *** Villafranchian carnivoran guild includes numerous taxa belonging to various *** of them are interesting as they are differentiated from the other Eurasian *** cover the entire Villafranchian but the mass is known from the Middle to the Epi-Villafranchian(EVC).Despite the discontinuous data,they provide useful biochronological *** coexistence of Pliocrocuta perrieri and Pachycrocuta brevirostris in the locality of Gerakarou 1 is strong evidence for the Middle Villafranchian(MVC)/Late Villafranchian(LVC)*** composition of the Villafranchian carnivores suggests that the canids predominate,while the felids,hyenids and mustelids are well represented;the ursids are represented by a single taxon,the well-known Ursus etruscus,which seems to be common during the entire *** carnivoran guild structure and the multivariate analysis of the Greek Villafranchian carnivoran assemblages(MVC,LVC and EVC)in comparison with modern assembalges from open and closed environments indicate a relatively open landscape,which is in agreement with previous results for the Villafranchian of *** the EVC there is a faunal renewal that is related to a more open and dry environment,like savannah bushland/grassland.

The average values of the seasonal flesh biochemical composition(%)of the pearl oyster Pinctada imbricata radiata originated form 2 sampling sites,the gulfs of Evoikos(E)and Saronikos(S)in the Western Aegean Sea,showed that is rich in proteins(64.00±1.86-(E),64.67±2.95-(S))with low fat content(10.96±1.04-(E),11.86±1.13-(S))and carbohydrates(13.29±2.48-(E),9.94±4.32(S)).The condition index ranged from 26.16%±5.04 in the autumn in(E),to 44.73%±7.50 in the summer in(S).The meat yield varied from 20.49%±3.20%in the summer in(E)to 30.73%±3.47%in the summer in(S).Both results demonstrate the high nutritional profile of the pearl oyster,supporting its suitability as a potential new Mediterranean seafood source for human consumption.

The present study deals with the determination of Mount Olympus summit(Mytikas),exploiting modern observations such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems(GNSS)and existing geodetic *** last official Olympus height determination goes back 102 years by the Swiss surveyor *** then,only unofficial measurement campaigns have taken *** is a variety of released heights,which range from 2917 to 2919 *** September and October of 2022,we conducted a GNSS campaign,focusing on the area of highest Olympus *** precise GNSS measurements(accuracy of 1-3 cm),in conjunction with height information from greece’s National Triangulation Network(5-10 cm accuracy)and an appropriate,recent geoid model(5-6 cm accuracy),we estimate through the so-called GNSS-levelling,the height of Olympus to 2917.727 m with respect to greece’s officially accepted mean sea level and 2918.390 m with respect to the global vertical *** estimation of Olympus highest peak shows remarkable consistency at the level of 12.8 cm to that of *** in 1921.

In every emergency medical situation,access to emergency medical services is an inalienable right of any *** average acceptable time to provide first aid assistance is 60 *** this paper,the possibility of using helicopters for air travel in mountainous areas was examined for the first time for all of greece and especially for a mountainous and isolated area such as the Municipality of ***,the time distance-virtual distance,from the hospitals was calculated at the national level of greece,with an acceptable first contact time of 60 minutes(golden hour),i.e.,less than two hours from the nearest hospital to the incident and back to the hospital and the relevant conclusions are ***,the case study of Municipality of Agrafa,one of the most mountainous areas in greece,was *** time distance of the settlements from the nearest primary health point,namely the Primary Health Centre(PHC)of West Fragkista,was calculated and the transportation by ground means was compared with the corresponding time by flying means,to investigate the contribution of air transportation or not,of the timely arrival of the patients in the appropriate health ***,possible helicopter landing locations were identified,using a geographic information system to facilitate the process of air medical transportation in the Municipality of Agrafa.

The management of fertilizer application is crucial for agricultural production and environmental safety. The objective of this study was to assess the efficiency of different fertilization strategies, applying fertilizers with and without nitrification inhibitors （NIs） in split application, in greece. The assessment criteria used were based on crop yield, soil nitrogen （N） concentrations and economic efficiency. For this purpose two crops （winter wheat and cotton） were selected in order to explore the optimum fertilization strategy for each crop. Three treatments combining fertilizers with NIs were tested compared with conventional fertilization （CF）. Slight differences in the quantity and the combination of fertilizers with NIs applied resulted in variable effects on crop yield, soil N and economic return. Split N application of 102 kg ha^（-1）, with half of the total amount applied at seeding, resulted in higher grain yield of winter wheat, lower NO3-N in soil and higher economic return. This result reveals the importance of N application at seeding in wheat crop. Fertilization strategy with 109.5 kg N ha^（-1） and split P application resulted in higher cotton yield and higher economic profit. Split P application seemed to increase yield, even though it is not a common practise in the area.

Although acupuncture was first introduced to greece in about 1938,it was not until 1973 that an institution was created to teach it,where its study was limited to medical doctors(MDs).Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)was not taught to non-MDs until *** today,TCM has not been integrated into the Greek health system,and in a few exceptions,TCM was mainly associated with pain management.A few private schools teach TCM theory and practice in the fields of acupuncture,moxibustion,herbology,gua sha,and tui na(Chinese massage).This study examines the use of Chinese single herbs and formulas for prevention or treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic in greece,as well as issues with the availability of Chinese herbs and proposals for substitutes from the traditional Greek medicine point of view.

AIM: To assess the trends in the incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) over 23 years in the same area and to identify genetic factors related to incidence evolution. METHODS: Patients with IBD arising from North- western greece were systematically recorded through the 1983-2005 period. Trends in disease incidence and genetic patterns related to CARD15 variants were documented and correlated. RESULTS: A total of 447 patients with IBD were recorded (23.5% Crohn’s disease, 72.7% Ulcerative colitis and 3.8% indeterminate colitis). Mean annual incidence rates of CD and UC were 0.9/100 000 (95% CI 0.1-1.7) and 2.7/100 000 (95% CI 1.7-4.1) inhabitants, respectively. There was a statistically significant increase of CD incidence (P greece has risen disproportionately to that of UC in the 21st century. This is not related to alterations of genetic background though.
