Size-fractionated particulate matter(PM_(2.5)and PM>_(2.5))was collected at a traffic site in Kanazawa,Japan in a seasonal sampling work in *** polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(4-to 6-ring PAHs)were determined in fine and coarse *** gas/particle partitioning coefficients(K_(p))of the PAHs were calculated from the supercooled liquid vapour pressure and octanol-air partitioning coefficient based on the relationships obtained in previous traffic pollution-related *** PAHs were estimated by K_(p) and the concentrations of PM and particulate *** concentrations of total PAHs were 32.5,320.1 and 5646.2 pg/m^(3) in the PM>_(2.5),PM_(2.5) and gas phases,*** seasonal trends in PAHs were observed(particle phase:lowest in summer,gas phase:lowest in spring,particle and gas phase:lowest in spring).Compared to 2019,the total PAH concentrations(in particles)decreased in 2020,especially in spring and summer,which might be due to reduced traffic trips during the COVID-19 *** incremental lifetime cancer risk(ILCR)calculated from the toxic equivalent concentrations relative to benzo[a]pyrene(BaP_(eq))was lower than the acceptable limit issued by the US Environmental Protection Agency,indicating a low cancer risk in long-term exposure to current PAH *** is notable that gaseous PAHs considerably contributed to BaP_(eq) and ILCR(over 50%),which highlighted the significance of gaseous PAH monitoring for public health *** low-cost estimation method for gaseous PAHs can be expected to reliably and conveniently obtain PAH concentrations as a surrogate for traditional sampling in the future work.

Electroacupuncture alleviates zymosan-induced colorectal hypersensitivity

OBJECTIVE: this study to investigate the mechanism underlying the electroacupuncture(EA) alleviates colorectal hypersensitivity, a feature of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS). METHODS: The colorectal hypersensitivity model was established by treating mice with zymosan. Electrophysiological techniques, Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining were used to detect the changes of the sensitive state of the colorectum and the response in spinal ganglion and spinal cord after acupuncture intervention. RESULTS: colorectal distension studies revealed that repetitive applied electroacupuncture treatment on mice could significant alleviates colorectal intensity. Western blotting studies with nerve growth factor(NGF) in the colorectum, substance P(SP) in the spinal ganglion, protein kinase C gamma(PKCγ) in the spinal cord, and transient receptor potential vanilloid 1(TRPV1) showed that electroacupuncture suppressed zymosan-induced expression of TRPV1, NGF and SP in multiple tissues. Immunofluorescence labeling results showed that EA attenuated the expression of NGF in the colorectum, SP in the spinal ganglion, PKCγ in the spinal cord, and TRPV1 in all three tissues in zymosan-treated mice. Moreover, the number of neurons double-positive for TRPV1/Isolectin B4(IB4) and TRPV1/Neurofilament(NF) 200 was increased in the spinal ganglion. CONCLUSION: these results provide molecular-level evidence that EA alleviates zymosan-induced colorectal hypersensitivity by altering the expression of pain-associated proteins in the colorectum and spinal cord. EA has a potential to be therapeutic intervention option for IBS treatment.

BACKGROUND: Inappropriate antibiotic treatment for patients with viral infections has led to a surge in antimicrobial resistance, increasing mortality and healthcare costs. Viral and bacterial infections are often difficult to distinguish. Myxovirus resistance protein A(MxA), an essential antiviral factor induced by interferon after viral infection, holds promise for distinguishing between viral and bacterial infections. This study aimed to determine the ability of Mx A to distinguish viral from bacterial ***: We quantified MxA in 121 infected patients via dry immunofluorescence chromatography. The Kruskal-Wallis test and receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis were used to determine the diagnostic value of Mx A, either alone or in combination with C-reactive protein(CRP) or procalcitonin(PCT), in patients with viral, bacterial, or ***: The value of MxA(ng/mL) was significantly higher in patients with viral infections than in those with bacterial and co-infections(82.3 [24.5–182.9] vs. 16.4 [10.8–26.5], P<0.0001)(82.3 [24.5–182.9] vs. 28.5 [10.2–106.8], P=0.0237). The area under the curve(AUC) of the ROC curve for distinguishing between viral and bacterial infections was 0.799(95% confidence interval [95% CI] 0.696–0.903), with a sensitivity of 68.9%(95% CI 54.3%–80.5%) and specificity of 90.0%(95% CI 74.4%–96.5%) at the threshold of 50.3 ng/mL. Combining the MxA level with the CRP or PCT level improved its ability. MxA expression was low in cytomegalovirus(15.8 [9.6–47.6] ng/mL) and Epstein-Barr virus(12.9 [8.5–21.0] ng/mL) ***: Our study showed the diagnostic efficacy of Mx A in distinguishing between viral and bacterial infections, with further enhancement when it was combined with CRP or PCT. Moreover, EpsteinBarr virus and human cytomegalovirus infections did not elicit elevated Mx A expression.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of Persian shallot extract on the serum markers and blood pressure of patients with metabolic syndrome(MetS). METHODS: Fifty patients with Met S diagnosis were randomly assigned to the intervention(Persian shallot extract) and the control(placebo) group. Both groups received treatment for three months. Before the study and at the end of the study, 5 mL peripheral blood was taken from each patient. The measured factors included total antioxidant capacity(TAC), superoxide dismutase enzyme(SOD), malondialdehyde, oxidized low-density lipoprotein(Ox-LDL), apolipoprotein H(Apo-H), fasting blood glucose(FBS), total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein(HDL), LDL, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. RESULTS: At baseline, the evaluated parameters were not significantly different between the intervention and control groups. At the end of the study, the mean serum levels of malondialdehyde and ox-LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean FBS, cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean TAC and HDL were significantly higher in the intervention group(P < 0.05). Moreover, the intervention group significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure. No other significant association was observed. CONCLUSION: Persian shallot extract has several beneficial effects in Met S patients, including optimizing oxidative balance, reducing blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and blood lipid profile.

OBJECTIVE: To enhance the understanding of identifying personalized pharmacotherapy options in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), and further support the registration of new TCM drugs. METHODS: Generalized Boosted Models and XGBoost were employed to construct a classification model to identify the bad prognosis factors in resistant hypertension(RH) patients. Furthermore, we used association analysis to explore the rules of "symptomsyndrome" and "symptom-herb" for the major influencing factors, in order to summarize prescription pattern and applicable patients of TCM. RESULTS: Patients with major adverse cardiac events mostly have complex symptoms of phlegm, stasis, deficiency and fire intermingled with each other, and finally summarized the human experience of using Chinese herbal medicine to precisely intervene in some symptoms of RH patients on the basis of conventional Western medical treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Machine learning algorithms can make full use of human use experience and evidence to save clinical trial resources and accelerate the development of TCM varieties.
