The Effect of the Menstrual Cycle on Cognitive Performance: Spatial Reasoning, Visual & Numerical Memory

The menstrual cycle has been a topic of interest in relation to behavior and cognition for many years, with historical beliefs associating it with cognitive impairment. However, recent research has challenged these beliefs and suggested potential positive effects of the menstrual cycle on cognitive performance. Despite these emerging findings, there is still a lack of consensus regarding the impact of the menstrual cycle on cognition, particularly in domains such as spatial reasoning, visual memory, and numerical memory. Hence, this study aimed to explore the relationship between the menstrual cycle and cognitive performance in these specific domains. Previous studies have reported mixed findings, with some suggesting no significant association and others indicating potential differences across the menstrual cycle. To contribute to this body of knowledge, we explored the research question of whether the menstrual cycles have a significant effect on cognition, particularly in the domains of spatial reasoning, visual and numerical memory in a regionally diverse sample of menstruating females. A total of 30 menstruating females from mixed geographical backgrounds participated in the study, and a repeated measures design was used to assess their cognitive performance in two phases of the menstrual cycle: follicular and luteal. The results of the study revealed that while spatial reasoning was not significantly related to the menstrual cycle (p = 0.256), both visual and numerical memory had significant positive associations (p upport systems.

Recovery of some valuable elements from lamprophyre dykes in the Abu Rusheid area, Southeastern Desert, Egypt

In the Abu Rusheid area, Southeastern Desert of Egypt, polymineralized (HREEs, U, Zn and Pb) lam-prophyre dykes are recently recorded. The lamprophyre dykes cut cataclastic rocks along share zones in NNW-SSE trends. The secondary U-minerals are essentially represented by uranophane, kasolite, torbernite and autunite. Ex-perimental work was carried out on the lamprophyre dykes for the recovery of uranium and other valuable elements (e.g. Zn, Pb and Al) from 50 kg of technological sample. The optimum conditions were: 100 g/L sulfuric acid con-centration, 1:5 S/L (solid/liquid) and soaking for 15 days at room temperature. The leaching efficiencies for the re-covery of uranium and other elements like Al, Zn and Pb were 40, 33.6, 98.8 and 78, respectively.

Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of novel 2-amino-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-3H-cyclopenta[d]pyrimidine and pyrimido[1,2-α]pyrimidine derivatives

2-Aminocyclopenta[d]pyrimidines 3a-c were achieved via a one-pot, three-component reactions of cyclopentanone 1, aromatic aldehyde and guanidine hydrochloride （1：2：1 molar ratio）. Also, cyclization of 2,5-bis-（arylmethylidene）cyclopentanones 2 with guanidine hydrochloride （1：1 molar ratio） in methanol in the presence of sodium methoxide afforded cyclopenta-[d]pyrimidines 3. On the Norms of r-Hankel Matrices Involving Fibonacci and Lucas Numbers

Let us define A=Hr=(aij)?to be n×n?r-Hankel matrix. The entries of matrix A are Fn=Fi+j-2?or Ln=Fi+j-2?where Fn?and Ln?denote the usual Fibonacci and Lucas numbers, respectively. Then, we obtained upper and lower bounds for the spectral norm of matrix A. We compared our bounds with exact value of matrix A’s spectral norm. These kinds of matrices have connections with signal and image processing, time series analysis and many other problems.

The formula of expressing the coefficients of an expansion of ultraspherical polynomials that has been integrated an arbitrary number of times in terms of the coefficients of the original expansion is stated in a more compact form and proved in a simpler way than the formula of Phillips and Karageorghis (1990). A new formula is proved for the q times integration of ultraspherical polynomials, of which the Chebyshev polynomials of the first and second kinds and Legendre polynomials are important special cases. An application of these formulae for solving ordinary differential equations with varying coefficients is discussed.

Efficacy of Physiotherapy and Conductive Education in Improving Motor Skills and Mental Function in Children with Cerebral Palsy

Background: Children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) often receive physiotherapy to achieve maximum motor potential and prevent secondary conditions. Conductive Education (CE) is an education programme that combines special education and rehabilitation. Purpose: Study the effect of physiotherapy and conductive education in development of fine, gross motor skills and mental function in the children with CP. Subjects and Methods: This is a prospective case study that was carried out on 105 children with CP less than 4 years old selected from outpatient clinic in National Institute for Neuro Motor System. Cases were taken consecutively from February 2019 to September 2019. A written informed consent was taken from all participants after proper explanation of the study. They were classified into three groups (group I, group II and group III) according to their age. All children are subjected to complete history taking, clinical examination, use of developmental quotient (DQ) sheet before and after 6 months of regular physiotherapy and conductive education program. Results: There was statistically significant improvement in fine motor, cognation and gross motor in 3 groups after 6 months of regular physiotherapy and conductive education program. The maximum improvement was in group I, so children with cerebral palsy were achieved maximum improvement when physiotherapy and conductive education started as early as possible. Effects of Exposure to Electromagnetic Field on of Some Hematological Parameters in Mice

Objective: To investigate the effects of electromagnetic fields on some hematological parameters of Male white mice. Methods: In this study two experiments were used as short-term and long-term experiments. Short-term experiments were carried out in 80 male white Balb/c mice exposed to two types of mobile phone for a period time up to 60 min a day for 2 weeks. Long-term experiments was carried out in 30 male white Balb/c mice exposed to two types of mobile phone for a period time up to 90 min a day for a day for a month, two months, three months. Result: The present result found that a decline in hemoglobin, hematocrit, red blood cells count, in addition to the platelets count after short and long exposure to both types of mobile phone (Alcatel, Nokia,). It was observed that the average number of white cells and lymphocytes increased significantly, indicating the increase to the body’s immune response to radiation. Also, when exposed to both devices (Alcatel, Nokia) for 15 minutes, the red blood cells began to take roles formation due to an increase in the viscosity of the blood and the ability of the cells adhesion. Increased duration of exposure to 30-minute to both devices revealed disparities in the sizes of red blood cells with the appearance of a large proportion of cells with pale colors due to lack of hemoglobin. In the group exposed for 45 minutes showed clearly the influence of mobile phones on examining blood smears which observed a proportion variation in the cell sizes with the emergence of forms of abnormal forms, including pellets cleft with many areas empty of red blood cells, With increasing in of exposure duration to 60 minutes, red blood cells appeared completely different from the natural form and took the forms resembling the eye and tear that appear in the case of anemia. Numerical Investigation of the Plasma Formation in Distilled Water by Nd-YAG Laser Pulses of Different Duration

Water breakdown studies by Nd-YAG laser pulses of duration 100 fs, 30 ps and 6 ns at wavelength 1064 nm are pre- formed to investigate the physical mechanisms which couple the laser energy into the medium. Calculations are carried out applying a modified kinetic model of water breakdown previously developed by Kennedy (1995) to investigate the correlation between threshold intensity of breakdown and laser pulse length. The modifications considered the introduction of diffusion and recombination loss processes which might take place under the experimental conditions applied in these calculations. The validity of the model is tested by comparing the calculated threshold intensities and the experimentally measured ones where good agreement is shown. The study of the time evolution of the electron density clarifies the correlation between the pulse length and dominant ionization mechanism. The analysis of the spatial distribution of the electron density along the radial and axial distances of the focal spot showed that the size of the formed plasma increases with the increase of the pulse length. On the other hand, studies of self-focusing effect illustrated that under the investigated experimental conditions the effect of this process has an effective contribution only at laser pulses of the order of femtosecond scale when the laser beam is focused by a lens of a focal length ≥8.0 cm. This result in turns assures that using femtosecond pulses in ophthalmic microsurgery could be a safe tool from the retinal damage.

The Effect of Relative Humidity on Maritime Tropical Aerosols

The present work focused on the effect of relative humidity (RH) on some microphysical and optical properties of maritime tropical aerosols from the software package OPAC (Optical Properties of Aerosols and Clouds) data at the spectral range of 0.25 μm to 2.5 μm and eight relative humidities (0%, 50%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 95%, 98%, and 99%). The microphysical properties extracted were radii, volume mix ratio, number mix ratio and mass mix ratio as a function of RH while the optical properties were optical depth, extinction, scattering and absorption coefficients single scattering albedo, refractive indices and asymmetric parameters. The hygroscopic growth and enhancement parameters were then parameterized by using some models to determine the hygroscopicity, bulk hygroscopicity, humidification factors and some other parameters that depend on RH and/or wavelengths. The results showed that the data fitted our models very well and can be used to extrapolate the hygroscopic growth at any RH and enhancement parameters at any RH and wavelengths. The importance of determining gfmix(RH) as a function of RH and volume fractions, mass fractions and number fractions, and enhancement parameters as a function of RH. The effective radii increases with the increase in RH, while Angstrom coefficients decrease with the increase in RH and this signifies the dominance of coarse mode particles. The angstrom coefficients show that the mixture has bimodal type of distribution and the mode size increases with the increase in RH.
