＜正＞The sustainable utilization of resources in Inner Mongolia grasslands is very important in terms of not only supporting the local and animal production but also thinking about the global environment. Satellite remote sensing and geographic information system （GIS） are one of the most powerful tools to assist in grassland management in Inner Mongolia. Enhanced vegetation index from Terra MODIS image showed a good correlation with pasture mass and quality so that seasonal changes of pasture mass and quality can be estimated over a large area. Seasonal changes of grazing behaviour and its spatial distribution were obtained from global positioning system （GPS） and bite counter （BC）. With integrated use such information based on the global information system （GIS）. the effect of pasture mass and quality on livestock grazing behaviour can be determined at the farm scale.

AIM To determine the predictive factors and impact of body weight loss on postgastrectomy quality of life(QOL). METHODS We applied the newly developed integrated questionnaire postgastrectomy syndrome assessment scale-45, which consists of 45 items including those from the Short Form-8 and Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale instruments, in addition to 22 newly selected items. Between July 2009 and December 2010, completed questionnaires were received from 2520 patients with curative resection at 1 year or more after having undergone one of six types of gastrectomy for Stage Ⅰ gastric cancer at one of 52 participating institutions. Of those, we analyzed 1777 eligible questionnaires from patients who underwent total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y procedure(TGRY) or distal gastrectomy with Billroth-I(DGBI) or Roux-en-Y(DGRY) procedures. RESULTS A total of 393, 475 and 909 patients underwent TGRY, DGRY, and DGBI, respectively. The mean age of patients was 62.1 ± 9.2 years. The mean time interval between surgery and retrieval of the questionnaires was 37.0 ± 26.8 mo. On multiple regression analysis, higher preoperative body mass index, total gastrectomy, and female sex, in that order, were independent predictors of greater body weight loss after gastrectomy. There was a significant difference in the degree of weight loss(P 25 kg/m2). Multiple linear regression analysis identified lower postoperative body mass index, rather than greater body weight loss postoperatively, as a certain factor for worse QOL(P < 0.0001) after gastrectomy, but the influence of both such factors on QOL was relatively small(R2, 0.028-0.080).CONCLUSION While it is certainly important to maintain adequate body weight after gastrectomy, the impact of body weight loss on QOL is unexpectedly small.

We studied the effects of exercise on muscle mitochondria, and lipid and glycogen content in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) model rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly separated into 3 groups: the control group was fed standard chow;the NASH group was fed a methionine-choline-deficient high-fat diet (MCD);the NASH-exercise group was fed the MCD and exercised three times a week. Exercise training consisted of continuous running for thirty minutes at a 13 m/min, 6° slope on a motor-driven rodent treadmill for 6 weeks. Mitochondria content in NASH group decreased in the both fiber types compared with those of the control group. As compared between the NASH and NASH-exercise groups, however, exercise not only promoted significant improvements in liver fibrosis and cirrhosis and triglyceride (TG) content but also increased mitochondria content in type I muscle fiber in particular. These data suggest that exercise improved hepatic steatosis in NASH model rats and can prevent the progression of NASH.

Moderately strong allelopathic activities were found in four bamboo species, Bambusa multiplex cv. Houraichiku;Phyllostachys bambusoides cv. Madake;P. nigra cv. Hachiku;Sasa kurilensis cv. Chishimazasa, which are of different classification or of different ecological distributions, using the “Sandwich Method”, which assays the dried leaves on growth of lettuce seedlings. Only small difference of activity was found among the four bamboo species. In addition, “Protoplast Co-culture Method” for assay of allelopathy in a 50 μL liquid medium using a 96 well culture plate, was applied to the suspension cultures of the four bamboo species. Protoplasts were isolated from two-week cultured suspension cells of four bamboo species using Cellulase RS and Pectolyase Y-23 in 0.6 M mannitol. At low protoplast densities of bamboo, B. multiplex and P. bambusoides stimulated the recipient lettuce growth, i.e., non-spherically cell enlargement and cell divisions observed under an inverted microscope, while protoplasts of P. nigra and S. kurilensis were less stimulatory or inhibitory. Inhibitory effect of S. kurilensis was the strongest among four bamboo species. Furthermore, highly inhibitory effects of S. kurilensis protoplasts on yellow color accumulation of lettuce protoplasts were clearly observed by analysis of a scanned digital image of a 96-well culture plate. Differences and causes of the allelopathic activities were discussed comparing with other plant species studied using the same assay methods.

Congenital dysfibrinogenemia (CD) is a qualitative congenital fibrinogen (Fbg) disorder characterized by normal antigen levels of dysfunctional Fbg. A 41-year-old Japanese woman visited the emergent room of our hospital due to acute and severe abdominal pain. Catheterization of the full bladder released her abdominal pain. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a huge pelvic mass, suggesting an intra-mural giant myoma. Before the removal operation of myoma, screening tests showed no abnormalities, including prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time. However, Fbg level was not determined. The patient wanted to receive early surgical treatment, and an abdominal hysterectomy was performed as usual and the intra-operative blood loss was 100 g (ml). However, we found subcutaneous and pelvic hematomas, although active bleeding was not recognized on an emergent computed tomography examination. At that time, we noticed a low level of plasma Fbg (47 mg/dl). We performed a re-laparotomy to remove hematomas. All ligated blood vessels were re-ligated, and oozing points were vaporized. Around the re-operation, six units of fresh frozen plasma and twelve units of red blood cell suspension were transfused. The clinical course after the 2nd operation was uneventful except for the low level of Fbg. An additional study showed that the value of the Fbg activity and antigen was dissociated, and the patient was diagnosed CD with γ275 Arg to His (CGC to CAC) mutation.

Beef from Japanese Black cattle (JBK), is popular in Japan and valued for its highly marbled fat content. In JBK, genes affecting oleic acid content in meat have been studied mainly to lower the fat melting point and improve tenderness;however, there has been no direct correlation demonstrated between beef taste and oleic acid. To investigate genes affecting other fatty acids other than oleic acid, polymorphisms of the fatty acid desaturase 2 (FADS2) gene were genotyped and associations with fatty acid profile in JBK beef were investigated. Amplifications of 5’-flanking regions, 12 exons, and 3’-untranslated regions of the FADS2 gene in three Japanese and five Western cattle breeds via PCR, were amplified, sequenced and SNPs were identified using specific TaqMan genotyping assay. Fatty acid composition of intramuscular adipose tissue of the Trapezius muscle was analyzed in JBK steers. Six of the 15 identified SNPs are novel and have never been registered in any public bovine SNP database. A non-synonymous SNP (rs211580559;C > T;294 Ala > Val) in exon 7 was examined in order to evaluate its association with fatty acid profiles. The data showed that highly significant association existed between rs211580559 and C18:2 (n-6) composition, and accounted for 22.3% of the variation. There were no significant relationships between rs2115-80559 and the other fatty acids. It was concluded that rs211580559 of the FADS2 gene may be a useful selection marker for reducing unfavorable volatiles generated from linoleic acid in JBK beef during the cooking process.

In this work,to efficiently utilize waste fruit and low-rank coal for the hydrogen(H_(2))-rich syngas production,steam co-gasification of banana peel(BP)and brown coal(BC)was studied in a fixed-bed *** results showed that the gasification rate of BC was highly enhanced after mixing it with BP and the obvious synergistic effect was observed in all investigated three mixing weight ratios(i.e.,1:1,1:4,4:1),resulting in a higher carbon conversion as well as a H_(2)-rich gas production yield for the ***,the extent of promotion by synergistic effect was affected by the reaction temperature,mixing ratio,and steam *** was found that the high potassium(K)species content in the BP provided the catalytic effect not only on water-gas shift reaction but also on tar reforming/cracking,thereby enhancing the gasification of *** addition,it is confirmed that steam should be an important factor to promote the synergistic effect and H_(2)-rich gas production.

Deciphering Starch Quality of Rice Kernels Using Metabolite Profiling and Pedigree Network Analysis

The physiological properties of rice grains are immediately obvious to consumers. High-coverage metabolomic characterization of the rice diversity research set predicted a negative correlation between fatty acid and lipid levels and amylose/total starch ratio （amylose ratio）, but the reason for this is unclear. To obtain new insight into the relationships among the visual phenotypes of rice kernels, starch granule structures, amylose ratios, and metabolite changes, we investigated the metabolite changes of five Japonica cultivars with various amylose ratios and two knockout mutants （e 1, a Starch synthase Ilia （SSIIla）-deficient mutant and the SSIIla/starch branching enzyme （BE） double-knockout mutant 4019） by using mass spectrometry-based metabolomics techniques. Scanning electron microscopy clearly showed that the two mutants had unusual starch granule structures. The metabolomic compositions of two cultivars with high amylose ratios （Hoshiyutaka and Yumetoiro） exhibited similar patterns, while that of the double-knockout mutant, which has an extremely high amylose ratio, differed. Rice pedigree network analysis of the cultivars and the mutants provided insight into the association between metabolic-trait properties and their underlying genetic basis in rice breeding in Japan. Multidimensional scaling analysis revealed that the Hoshiyutaka and Yumetoiro cultivars were Indica-like, yet they are classified as Japonica subpopulations. Exploring metabolomic traits is a powerful way to follow rice genetic traces and breeding history.

AIM To investigate daclatasvir(DCV) and asunaprevir(ASV) efficacy in hepatitis C(HCV) patients, with respect to resistance-associated substitutions(RASs).METHODS A total of 392 HCV-infected patients from multiple centers were included in this study. We evaluated their clinical courses and sustained virologic responses(SVR) according to pretreatment factors(gender, age, history of interferon-based regimens, platelet counts, level of viremia, pretreatment NA5A:L31, and Y93 substitutions). We also analyzed the pretreatment and post-treatment major RASs of NS3:D168, NS5A:L31 and Y93 substitutions using a direct-sequencing method in 17 patients who were unable to achieve SVR at 12 wk after treatment completion(SVR12).RESULTS The overall SVR12 rate was 88.3%. Thirty-one patients discontinued treatment before 24 wk because of adverse events, 23 of whom achieved SVR12. There were no significant differences in SVR12 rates with respect to gender, age, history of interferon-based regimens, and platelet counts. The SVR12 rate in patients with viral loads of ≥ 6.0 log IU/m L was significantly lower than those with viral loads of < 6.0 log IU/m L(P < 0.001). The SVR12 rate in patients with Y93 substitution-positive was significantly lower than those with Y93 substitution-negative(P < 0.001). The L31 substitution-positive group showed a lower SVR12 rate than the L31 substitution-negative group, but the difference was not statistically significant. Seventeen patients who did not achieve SVR12 and had available pretreatment and post-treatment sera had additional RASs in NS3:D168, NS5:L31, and Y93 substitution at treatment *** Combination of DCV and ASV is associated with a high SVR rate. Baseline RASs should be thoroughly assessed to avoid additional RASs after treatment failure.
