Characterizing dr.ught in California:new dr.ught indices and scenario-testing in support of resource management

Introduction:California’s recent dr.ught(2012–2016)has implications throughout the state for natural resource management and adaptation planning and has generated many discussions about dr.ught characterization and *** study characterizes dr.ught conditions with two indices describing deficits in natural water supply and increases in landscape stress developed on the basis of water balance modeling,at a fine spatial scale to assess the variation in conditions across the entire state,and provides an in-depth evaluation for the Russian River basin in northern California to addr.ss local resource management by developing extreme dr.ught scenarios for consideration in planning and ***:We employed the USGS Basin Characterization Model to characterize dr.ught on the basis of water supply(a measure of recharge plus runoff)and landscape stress(climatic water deficit).These were applied to the state and to the Russian River basin where antecedent soil moisture conditions were evaluated and extreme dr.ught scenarios were developed and run through a water management and reservoir operations model to further explore impacts on water ***:dr.ught indices indicated that as of the end of water year 2016 when reservoirs were full,additional water supply and landscape replenishment of up to three average years of precipitation in some locations was needed to return to normal *** soil conditions in the Russian River were determined to contribute to very different water supply results for different years and were necessary to understand to anticipate proper watershed response to *** dr.ught scenarios manifested very different kinds of dr.ught and recovery and characterization helps to guide the management response to ***:These scenarios and indices illustrate how dr.ughts differ with regard to water supply and landscape stress and how long warm dr.ughts recover much more slowly than short very dr. dr.

Mining the 3′UTR of Autism-implicated Genes for SNPs Perturbing MicroRNA Regulation

Autism spectrum disorder（ASD） refers to a group of childhood neurodevelopmental disorders with polygenic etiology. The expression of many genes implicated in ASD is tightly regulated by various factors including microRNAs（miRNAs）, a class of noncoding RNAs 22 nucleotides in length that function to suppress translation by pairing with ‘miRNA recognition elements’（MREs） present in the 30untranslated region（30UTR） of target mRNAs. This emphasizes the role played by miRNAs in regulating neurogenesis, brain development and differentiation and hence any perturbations in this regulatory mechanism might affect these processes as well. Recently, single nucleotide polymorphisms（SNPs） present within 30UTRs of mRNAs have been shown to modulate existing MREs or even create new MREs. Therefore, we hypothesized that SNPs perturbing miRNA-mediated gene regulation might lead to aberrant expression of autism-implicated genes, thus resulting in disease predisposition or pathogenesis in at least a subpopulation of ASD individuals. We developed a systematic computational pipeline that integrates data from well-established databases. By following a stringent selection criterion, we identified 9 MRE-modulating SNPs and another 12 MRE-creating SNPs in the 30UTR of autism-implicated genes. These high-confidence candidate SNPs may play roles in ASD and hence would be valuable for further functional validation.

Effect of non-point source pollution on water quality of the Weihe River

Non-point source pollution is an important factor that affects the water quality of the Weihe *** study the effect of the pollution on the water quality of the Weihe River,five flood events and three normal discharge events during non-flood period were monitored from July to December in 2006,at the Lin-tong *** order to identify how sediment influenced the water quality of the river,raw and supernatant samples taken from the monitored events were *** samples were siphoned from 5 cm below the water surface of the raw samples at the lab afterwards the raw samples were shaken up and laid for 30 minutes in the *** results indicated that:1) The concentrations of SS,COD,TP and TN in the raw samples from flood events were higher than those from normal discharge *** higher values of the COD,TP and TN in the raw samples resulted from natural humic matters in surface soil.2) The load transport rate of analyzed water quality indexes increased gradually to its maximum and then dr.p down,matching that in the discharge *** concentrations of SS,NH-N,NO-N,NO-N,COD,and TP in the raw samples increased initially and then decreased,while the concentration of dissolved orthophosphate and TN in the raw samples decreased gradually and then *** peak time of concentration and load transport rate of SS as well as COD,TP and TN in the raw samples were close to or lagged behind the time of peak flow. Generally,the peak time of concentration and load transport rate of dissolved orthophosphate, dissolved total-phosphate,NH-N,NO-N,and NO-N occurred prior to the time of peak flow.3) The mean concentration method was used to calculate the NPS pollution load at Lin-tong section,and the results are *** 2006,the proportions of the NPS pollution load to the total load for COD,TP, TN and inorganic nitrogen were more than 30%.

Synthesis, docking and ADMET prediction of novel 5-((5-substituted-1-H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) methyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydr.thieno[3,2-c]pyridine as antifungal agents

A novel series of 5-（（5-substituted-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl）methyl）-4,5,6,7-tetrahydr.thieno[3,2-c]pyr- idines 5（a-i） has been synthesized from thienopyridine hydr.zide, substituted aromatic nitriles using 4- dimethylaminopyridine （DMAP） as a catalyst under microwave irradiation and evaluated for their in vitro antifungal activity. Compound 5g is found to be more potent against Candida albicans when compared with miconazole. Docking study of the newly synthesized compounds was performed, and results showed good binding mode in the active site of fungal enzyme P450 cytochrome lanosterol 14α- demethylase. ADMET properties of synthesized compounds were also analyzed and showed good dr.g like properties. The results of in vitro antifungal activity, docking study and ADMET prediction revealed that the synthesized compounds have potential antifungal activity and can be further optimized and developed as a lead compound.

Theory of affinity maturation of antibodies

Based on the theory of long distance interaction between antibodies and antigens we developed a theory of affinity maturation of antibodies that is based on longitudinale electric waves. Early stage antibodies show a wide frequency spectrum for antigens and are polyspecific. After affinity maturation the antibody shows a very narrow band spectrum, the antibodies become monospecific. The feedback between antibody and antibody producing cell is done via messenger molecules that are also communicating with help of longitudinal electric waves. These messenger molecules transfer information from antibody arms and are informing cells whether the epitopes are switched on or off. The folding of antibody is done via eigen frequency resonances.

Error Corrected Sub-Monolayer Ellipsometry for Measurement of Biomolecular Interactions

Already in 1946 Alexandr. Rothen from the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, New York published the use of ellipsometry for the measurement of antigen-antibody interactions. And he found some effects that could not be explained by the assumption that the interaction of the molecules is only of chemical nature. 55 years later we started research on antibody-antigen interaction and found similar results. To make sure that these measurements are not produced by measurement artifacts, each component of our measurement technique is error analyzed and error corrected if necessary. With such type of error corrected instrumentation we found, that there must be an interaction between antigens and antibodies that is based on longitudinal electromagnetic waves, which are able to work through thin 7 nm membranes. A similar interaction is found for the virus-antigen interaction. Our measurement results are in contrast to the assumption that the antigen-antibody and antigen-virus interaction is only of chemical nature.

Global stability for multi-species Lotka-Volterra cooperative systems： One hyper-connected mutualistic-species

We propose two models of one hyper-connected mutualistic-species described by delay differential equations of Lotka-Volterra type. An hyper-connected model comprises a central species interacting with a number of peripheral species around it, that is to say, one animal species （pollinators or dispersers） that interacts with several plant species （flowering plants or fruit trees）, or several animal species that interact with one plant species. We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the global asymptotic stability of the unique coexisting steady state of hyper-connected systems by means of novel Lyapunov functionals.

Influence of TiO_2 on the electrochemical performance of pasted typeβ-nickel hydr.xide electrode in alkaline electrolyte

Nickel hydr.xide was used as the positive electrode material in rechargeable alkaline batteries, which plays a significant role in the field of electric energy storage devices. β-nickel hydr.xide（β-Ni（OH）2 ） was prepared from nickel sulphate solution using potassium hydr.xide as a precipitating agent. Pure β-phase of nickel hydr.xide was confirmed from XRD and FT-IR studies. The effects of TiO2 additive on the β-Ni（OH）2 electrode performance are examined. The structure and property of the TiO2 added β-Ni（OH）2 were characterized by XRD, TG-DTA and SEM analysis. A pasted–type electrode is prepared using nickel hydr.xide powder as the main active material on a nickel sheet as a current collector. Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies were performed to evaluate the electrochemical performance of the β-Ni（OH）2 and TiO2 added β-Ni（OH）2 electrodes in 6 M KOH electrolyte. Anodic（Epa） and cathodic（Epc）peak potentials are found to decrease after the addition of TiO 2 into β-Ni（OH）2 electrode material. Further,addition of TiO2 is found to enhance the reversibility of the electrode reaction and also increase the separation of the oxidation current peak of the active material from the oxygen evolution current. Compared with pure β-Ni（OH）2 lectrode,TiO2 added β-Ni（OH）2 electrode is found to exhibit higher proton diffusion coefficient（D） and lower charge transfer resistance. These findings suggest that the TiO2 added β-Ni（OH）2 electrode possess improved electrochemical properties and thus can be recognized as a promising candidate for the battery electrode applications.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were prepared by a electrochemical reduction method using para-meters such as current density, solvent polarity, distance between electrodes, and concentration of stabilizers to control the size of the nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microsco-py, and their catalytic performance was tested for the synthesis of a series of 4-aryldiene-2-phenyl-5(4)-oxazolones from the cyclodehydr.tion and condensation of the respec-tive aldehyde, hippuric acid and acetic anhydr.de. Easy availability, reusability and eco-friendliness were some prominent features of the nanocrystalline titanium dioxide catalyst.
