Amid the scarcity of lunar meteorites and the imperative to preserve their scientific value,nondestructive testing methods are *** translates into the application of microscale rock mechanics experiments and scanning electron microscopy for surface composition *** study explores the application of Machine Learning algorithms in predicting the mineralogical and mechanical properties of DHOFAR 1084,JAH 838,and NWA 11444 lunar meteorites based solely on their atomic percentage *** a prior-data fitted network model,we achieved near-perfect classification scores for meteorites,mineral groups,and individual *** regressor models,notably the KNeighbor model,provided an outstanding estimate of the mechanical properties—previously measured by nanoindentation tests—such as hardness,reduced Young’s modulus,and elastic *** considerations on the nature and physical properties of the minerals forming these meteorites,including porosity,crystal orientation,or shock degree,are essential for refining *** findings underscore the potential of Machine Learning in enhancing mineral identification and mechanical property estimation in lunar exploration,which pave the way for new advancements and quick assessments in extraterrestrial mineral mining,processing,and research.

Three types of zeolite (NaP1 zeolite, analcime and chabazite) were hydrothermally synthesized by reacting fly ash with NaOH solution. The maximum conversion rate from fly ash to single zeolite is about 40%—75%, and the total conversion rate 60%—80%. The synthesis experimental results indicate that factors including vortex, viscosity, temperature, reaction time, and NaOH concentration in the reaction system strongly affect the type and conversion rate of zeolites. The batch experiments of removing Cu2+, Pb2+ and Cd2+ from wastewaters show that the adsorption capacity of zeolites synthesized is higher than that of fly ash.

During the Late Paleozoic,West Junggar(Xinjiang,NW China)experienced a shift in tectonic setting from compression to ***'erjiao is an important area for investigating collisional structures,post–collisional structures,and magmatic *** on the petrological and geochemical characteristics of pyroclastic and other volcanic rocks in the Permian Kalagang Formation from the borehole ZKH1205 in the Jimunai Basin,the main types of source rock for the pyroclastic rocks deposited in the basin are identified and their implications for the Early Permian tectonic setting *** abundance of basalt and andesite lithic fragments in the pyroclastic rocks,together with the REE characteristics and the contents of transition and high field strength elements show that the source rocks were chiefly intermediate–basic volcanic *** ICV values,low CIA values,low Rb/Sr ratios,low Th/U ratios and the mineralogical features suggest weak chemical weathering of the source rocks;the geochemical patterns of the pyroclastic rocks might not only have been impacted by crustal contamination but also might be related to the nature of the magma from the source *** geochemical properties of the pyroclastic rocks distinguish them from arc-related ones,and such samples plot in the within-plate basalt(WPB)field in some *** is consistent with the formation background of the Early Permian volcanic rocks in this region.

The chlorophyll/carotenoid index(CCI)is increasingly used for remotely tracking the phenology of ***,CCI is restricted to few satellites incorporating the 531nm *** study reveals that the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)broadband green reflectance(band 4)is significantly correlated with this xanthophyll-sensitive narrowband(band 11)(R^(2)=0:98,p<0:001),and consequently,the broadband green-red vegetation index GRVI—computed with MODIS band 1 and band 4—is significantly correlated with CCI—computed with MODIS band 1 and band 11(R^(2)=0:97,p<0:001).GRVI and CCI performed similarly in extracting phenological metrics of the dates of the start and end of the season(EOS)when evaluated with gross primary production(GPP)measurements from eddy covariance *** EOS extraction of evergreen needleleaf forest,GRVI even overperformed solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence which is seen as a direct proxy of plant *** study opens the door for GPP and photosynthetic phenology monitoring from a wide set of sensors with broadbands in the green and red spectral regions.

Geochemistry and geochronology of mafic rocks from the Spanish Central System:Constraints on the mantle evolution beneath central Spain

The Spanish Central System(SCS)contains several suites of Palaeozoic mafic igneous intrusions with contrasting geochemical affinity:Ordovician tholeiitic metabasites,Variscan calc-alkaline gabbros(Gb1)and microdiorites(Gb2),shoshonitic monzogabbros(Gb3)and alkaline diabases and lamprophyres(Gb4).Not all of these rocks are accurately dated,and several aspects of their genesis are still poorly *** present new whole-rock geochemical data(major and trace elements,and Sr-Nd isotopes),U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic ratios on magmatic zircons and 40 Ar/39Ar amphibole geochronology results in order to establish a precise chronology for the successive events of magmatism in the SCS,and discuss the nature of their mantle *** ages have been determined for the Variscan gabbros(305-294 Ma),the microdiorites(299 Ma)and the accompanying felsic porphyries(292 Ma),the shoshonitic monzogabbros(285 Ma),and the alkaline diabases(274 Ma)and monzosyenites(271-264 Ma).According to this information,the Variscan mafic magmatism would be mainly concentrated in the range of 305-294 Ma,with a final manifestation represented by the minor shoshonitic *** alkaline magmatism proved to be slightly older than previously thought and yielded at least two distinct pulses:diabases and *** Hf isotopes evidence the involvement of depleted and slightly enriched mantle *** bulk of the eHf values are in the broad range of-8 to+11,indicative of melting both depleted and enriched mantle *** high within-sample Hf isotope variation(up to-11 epsilon units)shown by samples from the Variscan series(gabbros,microdiorites and monzogabbros)could be explained mainly by hybridisation of magmas derived from heterogeneous lithospheric mantle *** estimates indicate that the Variscan mafic magmas were extracted from the *** Nd-Hf isotopic composition of these suites of rocks suggests the recycling of pelitic sediments during the Cad

In the light of current concerns related to induced seismicity associated with geological carbon sequestration(GCS),this paper summarizes lessons learned from recent modeling studies on fault activation,induced seismicity,and potential for leakage associated with deep underground carbon dioxide(CO2) *** simulations demonstrate that seismic events large enough to be felt by humans require brittle fault properties and continuous fault permeability allowing pressure to be distributed over a large fault patch to be ruptured at *** fault properties,which are commonly encountered in faults intersecting multilayered shale/sandstone sequences,effectively reduce the likelihood of inducing felt seismicity and also effectively impede upward CO2leakage.A number of simulations show that even a sizable seismic event that could be felt may not be capable of opening a new flow path across the entire thickness of an overlying caprock and it is very unlikely to cross a system of multiple overlying caprock ***-specific model simulations of the In Salah CO2storage demonstration site showed that deep fractured zone responses and associated microseismicity occurred in the brittle fractured sandstone reservoir,but at a very substantial reservoir overpressure close to the magnitude of the least principal *** conclude by emphasizing the importance of site investigation to characterize rock properties and if at all possible to avoid brittle rock such as proximity of crystalline basement or sites in hard and brittle sedimentary sequences that are more prone to injection-induced seismicity and permanent damage.

El Soplao outcrop, an Early Cretaceous amber deposit recently discovered in northern Spain （Cantabria）, has been shown to be the largest site of amber with arthropod inclusions that has been found in Spain so far. Relevant data provided herein for biogeochemistry of the amber, palynology, taphonomy and arthropod bioinclusions complement those previously published. This set of data suggests at least two botanical sources for the amber of El Soplao deposit. The first （type A amber） strongly supports a source related to Cheirolepidiaceae, and the second （type B amber） shows non-specific conifer biomarkers. Comparison of molecular composition of type A amber with Frenelopsis leaves （Cheirolepidiaceae） strongly suggests a biochemical affinity and a common botanical origin. A preliminary palynological study indicates a regional high taxonomical diversity, mainly of pteridophyte spores and gymnosperm pollen grains. According to the preliminary palynological data, the region was inhabited by conifer forests adapted to a dry season under a subtropical climate. The abundant charcoalified wood associated with the amber in the same beds is evidence of paleofires that most likely promoted both the resin production and an intensive erosion of the litter, and subsequent great accumulation of amber plus plant cuticles. In addition, for the first time in the fossil record, charcoalified plant fibers as bioinclnsions in amber are reported. Other relevant taphonomic data are the exceptional presence of serpulids and bryozoans on the surfaces of some amber pieces indicating both a long exposure on marine or brackish-water and a mixed assemblage of amber. Lastly, new findings of insect bioiuclusions, some of them uncommon in the fossil record or showing remarkable adaptations, are reported. In conclusion, a documented scenario for the origin of the El Soplao amber outcrop is provided.

Winter climate change has great potential to affect the functioning of terrestrial *** particular,increased soil frost associated with reduced insulating snow cover may impact the soil nitrogen(N)dynamics in cold ecosystems,but little is known about the variability of these effects among the soil aggregates.A snow manipulation experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of snow absence on N cycling within soil aggregates in a spruce forest on the eastern Tibetan Plateau of *** extractable soil available N(ammonium and nitrate),net N mineralization rate,and N cycling-related enzyme activities(urease,nitrate reductase,and nitrite reductase)were measured in large macroaggregate(>2 mm),small macroaggregate(0.25–2 mm),and microaggregate(<0.25 mm)during the early thawing period in the years of 2016 and *** absence increased soil N availabilities and nitrite reductase activity in microaggregate,but did not affect net N mineralization rate,urease or nitrate reductase activities in any of the aggregate *** of snow manipulations,both soil inorganic N and nitrate reductase were higher in small macroaggregate than in the other two *** effect of aggregate size and sampling year was significant on soil mineral N,net N mineralization rate,and nitrite reductase *** results indicated that snow cover change exerts the largest impact on soil N cycling within microaggregate,and its effect is dependent on winter conditions(e.g.,snow cover and temperature).Such findings have important implications for soil N cycling in snow-covered subalpine forests experiencing pronounced winter climate change.
