The "Old Red Sands" are widely distributed and typically developed over the coastal areas of Southeast Fujian, but there are different views on their origin. Based on the overall field investigations and a series of lab.studies, the paper suggests that the "Old Red Sands" are mainly formed by the beach wind-drift sands and ,locally, by slope wash and alluviation.

Poyang Lake in the Changjiang(Yangtze)River catchment has undergone frequent spring drought since 2003,and some researchers attributed this phenomenon to sand mining and the lakebed deformation in the outlet channel linking the lake with Changjiang River main ***,there is still a lack of high-resolution subaqueous geomorphological evidence of how sand mining led to lakebed deformation in the outlet *** examined the bed morphology and sub-bottom sedimentary structure of the outlet channel,using a multibeam echo sounder and sub-bottom profi ler in Poyang *** found that:(1)the subaqueous micro-topography types of the outlet channel are characterized by sand mining disturbance,natural erosional topography,and fl at bed and dunes,accounting for 44.9%,21.4%,28.6%,and 5.1%of the channel area,respectively;and(2)sand mining activity aff ects the local bed topography extensively and signifi *** depth of sandpits caused by sand mining varied from 1.4 m to 12 m deeper than the surrounding bed surface,with 4.41 m of depth increase on ***,the large-scale high-intensity sand mining activities and their signifi cant geomorphic eff ects demand for an improved assessment for future management and longer-term *** of the large-scale and ongoing high-intensity sand mining activities in the Poyang Lake outlet channel,these eff ects should raise caution in the future and contribute to monitoring eff orts that are essential to implement sustainable management *** present study and techniques implemented can serve as a scientifi c reference for dam construction and sand mining within the Poyang Lake basin.

Urbanization has introduced a series of environmental problems worldwide,and particulate matter(PM)is one of the main threats to human *** to the lack of high-resolution,large-scale monitoring data,few studies have analyzed the intraurban spatial distribution pattern of PM at a fine *** this study,portable air monitors carried by five taxis were used to collect the concentrations of PM1,PM2.5 and PM10 for five months in Shenyang during the heating *** results showed that high concentrations of PM were distributed in the suburbs,while relatively low concentration areas were found in the central ***,industrial and development zones had higher concentration values among the eight observed *** PM concentration exhibited strong spatial autocorrelation based on Moran’s I index *** factors were the most important influencing factors of the three pollutants,and their total contribution rate accounted for more than 80%among the 13 factors according to boosted regression trees *** taxi monitoring method we proposed was a more efficient and feasible method for monitoring urban air pollution and could obtain higher spatial-temporal resolution data at a lower cost to elucidate the region’s dynamic air pollution distribution patterns.

With the proposition of the Digital Earth(DE)concept,Virtual Geographic Information System(VGIS)has started to play the role of a Digital Earth prototype *** core problems involved in VGIS,such as out-of-core management and interactive rendering of very large scale terrain and image data,have been well studied in the past ***,the jitter problem,a common problem in VGIS that often causes annoying visual artefacts and deteriorates the output image quality,draws little *** this paper,after an intensive analysis of the jitter problem,a comprehensive framework is proposed to address such a problem while accounting for the characteristics of different data types in VGIS,such as terrain or ocean mesh data,vector data and 3-D model ***,this framework provides an improved dynamic local coordinate system(DLCS)method for terrain or ocean mesh *** vector data,the framework provides a simple and effective multiple local coordinate systems(MLCS)*** framework provides a MLCS method for 3-D model data making full use of the existing local coordinate system of the *** advantages of the proposed methods over current approaches are analysed and highlighted through case studies involving large GIS datasets.

The combination of urbanization and global warming leads to urban overheating and compounds the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events due to climate ***,the risk of urban overheating can be mitigated by urban green-blue-grey infrastructure(GBGI),such as parks,wetlands,and engineered greening,which have the potential to effectively reduce summer air *** many reviews,the evidence bases on quantified GBGI cooling benefits remains partial and the practical recommendations for implementation are *** systematic literature review synthesizes the evidence base for heat mitigation and related co-benefits,identifies knowledge gaps,and proposes recommendations for their implementation to maximize their *** screening 27,486 papers,202 were reviewed,based on 51 GBGI types categorized under 10 main *** GBGI(green walls,parks,street trees)have been well researched for their urban cooling ***,several other GBGI have received negligible(zoological garden,golf course,estuary)or minimal(private garden,allotment)*** most efficient air cooling was observed in botanical gardens(5.0±3.5℃),wetlands(4.9±3.2℃),green walls(4.1±4.2℃),street trees(3.8±3.1℃),and vegetated balconies(3.8±2.7℃).Under changing climate conditions(2070–2100)with consideration of RCP8.5,there is a shift in climate subtypes,either within the same climate zone(e.g.,Dfa to Dfb and Cfb to Cfa)or across other climate zones(e.g.,Dfb[continental warm-summer humid]to BSk[dry,cold semi-arid]and Cwa[temperate]to Am[tropical]).These shifts may result in lower efficiency for the current GBGI in the *** the importance of multiple services,it is crucial to balance their functionality,cooling performance,and other related co-benefits when planning for the future *** global GBGI heat mitigation inventory can assist policymakers and urban planners in prioritizing effective interventions to reduce the risk of urban overheating,fi

With the global economy increasingly dependent on innovation,urban discourse has shifted to consider what kinds of spatial designs may best nurture *** examined the relationship between the built environment and the spatial heterogeneity of regional innovation productivity(RIP)using the example of China's Pearl River Delta(PRD).Based on a spatial database of 522546 patent data from 2017,this study proposed an innovation-based built environment framework with the following five aspects:healthy en-vironment,daily interaction,mixed land use,commuting convenience,and technology *** negative binomial regression and Geodetector to examine the impact of the built environment on RIP,the results show that the spatial distribution of innovation productivity in the PRD region is extremely *** negative binomial regression results show that the built environment has a significant impact on the spatial differentiation of RIP,and,specifically,that healthy environment,mixed land use,commuting convenience,and technology atmosphere all demonstrate significant positive ***,the Geodetector results show that the built environment factor impacts the spatial heterogeneity of RIP to varying degrees,with technology atmosphere demonstrating the greatest impact *** conclude that as regional development discourse shifts focus to the knowledge and innovation economy,the innovation-oriented design and updating of built environments will become extremely important to policymakers.

High-Speed Rail(HSR)has increasingly become an important mode of inter-city transportation between large ***-city interaction facilitated by HSR tends to play a more prominent role in promoting urban and regional economic integration and *** the impact of HSR’s interaction on cities and people is therefore crucial for long-term urban and regional development planning and policy *** develop an evaluation framework using toponym information from social media as a proxy to estimate the dynamics of such *** paper adopts two types of spatial information:toponyms from social media posts,and the geographical location information embedded in social media *** framework highlights the asymmetric nature of social interaction among cities,and proposes a series of metrics to quantify such impact from multiple perspectives-including interaction strength,spatial decay,and channel *** results show that HSRs not only greatly expand the uneven distribution of inter-city connections,but also significantly reshape the interactions that occur along HSR routes through the channel effect.

The Kamchatka Peninsula - situated in the Pacific ＂Ring of Fire＂ - has 29 active and over 4oo extinct volcanoes. Since it is situated in the northeastern extremity of Russia, in subarctic climate, the volcanic landforms are overprinted by the 446 glaciers. This research focuses on the ltMutnaya catchment which drains the southern slopes of two active volcanoes： Avachinsky and Koryaksky. Those volcanoes are a permanent threat for the cities of Petropavlovsk and Elizovo, which are the 2 of 3 cities of the peninsula. Hence, most of the studies carriedout in the area dealt with the natural hazards and only few focus on landscape evolution. Thus, the purpose of this study was to elab.rate a cartographic approach which integrates classic geomorphology with state of the art GIS and remote sensing techniques. As result, different landforms and related processes have been analysed and included geomorphologic map of the in the first general ltMutnaya catchment.

Sediment budget and riverbed deformation in the uppermost part of the lower Yangtze River, China

The Yangtze River(YR), similar to most large rivers in the world, has experienced significant changes in its depositional environment due to anthropogenic disturbances and climatic influences in recent decades. However, knowledge of how the river channel and bed deformation respond to these changes in the uppermost part of the lower YR, a 200-km-long branched channel, is limited. In the current study,historical bathymetric data collected from 1992 to 2013 and high-resolution multibeam echo sounder(MBES) data obtained from 2015 to 2016 were analyzed to address the changes in the depositional environment. The results indicate that the whole riverbed in the Hukou to Datong reach(HDR) has been scouring over the past two decades and this trend is expected to continue in the future due to decreasing sediment supply from the upper watershed. The amount of net erosion from the HDR during 1992-2013approximately accounted for 7.2% of total sediment load in the Yangtze River(5.02 billion metric tons at Datong). The evolution of the riverbed is trending towards stabilization even though the patterns of erosion and/or deposition in the HDR have dramatically changed in the last two decades. The part of the channel from the upper 100 km to Datong was found to be a sensitive reach that first showed erosion from 1992 to 2003 and showed deposition during 2003-2008, and then mild erosion during 2008-2013in response to environmental changes. Thus, the findings indicate that riverine channel deformation in response to anthropogenic disturbance and climate influence is dynamic in different reaches, and this finding has both scientific and practical significance in terms of understanding channel stability and its response to external stressors.
