Structural geometrical analysis and simulation of decollement growth folds in piedmont Fauqi Anticline of Zagros Mountains, Iraq

This study carried out detailed structural analyses of the plane structural deformation pattern and sectional structural deformation styles of the Fauqi Anticline by the 3D seismic section with full cover collection, and carried out the kinematical simulation of the Fauqi anticlinal deep decollement coupling shallow growth folds and faults based on the fault decollement fold model and the forward balanced geological section technique. The study subsequently evaluated the differentiated petroleum enrichment mechanism of the Fauqi Anticline by utilizing the results of the structural analysis and combining the spatial-temporal relationship analysis of the source, the reservoir, and the caprock. The results showed that the differentiated plane structural deformation pattern and hierarchical sectional structural deformation style were developed by the superposed coupling of deep decollement, syntectonic sedimentation of shallow growth strata, and the compression of the south-west horizontal tectonic stress from the Zagros Mountains. It was found that the differentiated structural deformation caused the differentiated enrichment of petroleum in the Fauqi Anticline. It was also found that the horizontal slip distance of the Fauqi Anticlinal Folds reached around 3.5 km by the simulation of deep decollement coupling the movement of the shallow growth folds and the faults.

Experimental analysis of the pore structure, relative permeability, and water flooding characteristics of the Yan'an Formation sandstone, southwestern Ordos Basin

The oil and gas potential of the Yan'an Formation in the Ordos Basin has yet to be fully tapped. In this study, the pore structure, mobile fluid saturation, and water flooding micro-mechanism of the Yan'an Formation sandstone are systematically studied through the application of a series of rock physics and fluid experiments. The results show that there is a good positive correlation between porosity and permeability, and the reservoirs are divided into types Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and Ⅲ. Mercury injection tests show that the average pore throat radius of the oil-bearing reservoir ranges from 1 to 7 μm. The displacement pressure of the Yan'an Formation is also relatively low, and it decreases from 0.1 MPa to 0.01 MPa as the rock porosity increases from 11% to 18%. NMR tests show that small (diameter oil recovery rate is less than 1 ml/min, the oil displacement efficiency increases faster. However, when the average oil recovery rate is between 1–3.5 ml/min, the oil displacement efficiency is maintained at around 27%–30%. Physical properties of the reservoir, pore-throat structure, experimental pressure difference, and pore volume injected — all have significant effects on oil displacement efficiency. For Type Ⅰ and Type Ⅱ reservoirs, the increase of the pore volume injected has a significant effect on oil displacement efficiency. However, for Type Ⅲ reservoirs, the change of pore volume injected has insignificant effect on oil displacement efficiency. This study provides a reference for the formulation of estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) measures for similar sandstone reservoirs.

Effect of polymer solution structure on displacement efficiency

In this paper, a series of experiments, including atomic force microscope （AFM）, environmental scanning electron microscope （ESEM）, and core displacement tests were conducted to investigate the effect of polymer solution structure on solution properties and oil displacement efficiency. The results show that in the HPAM solution polymer coils were formed and then aggregated into a loose structure, while the HAP2010 solution formed a strong network structure, which would significantly improve the solution viscosity and flow resistance so as to upgrade the capacity of piston-like oil displacement in highly permeable porous media. Meanwhile, the retention of the HAP2010 solution at pore throats were also enhanced, which could reduce water production during subsequent water flooding and enlarge the swept volume during polymer flooding. Therefore, enhancing the interaction among polymer molecules is an effective way to improve the displacement efficiency of polymer solutions in heavy oil reservoirs with high permeability.

Petrography and Geochemistry of the Upper Triassic Sandstones from the Western Ordos Basin, NW China: Provenance and Tectonic Implications

Petrographic and geochemical characteristics of the Upper Triassic sandstones in the western Ordos Basin were studied to provide insight into weathering characteristics,provenance,and tectonic *** features show that the sandstones are characterized by low-medium compositional maturity and textural *** CIA and CIW values reveal weak and moderate weathering history in the source *** geochemical characteristics together with palaeocurrent data show that the northwestern sediments were mainly derived from the Alxa Block with a typical recycled nature,while the provenance of the western and southwestern sediments were mainly from the Qinling-Qilian Orogenic *** tectonic setting discrimination diagrams signify that the parent rocks of sandstones in the western and southern Ordos Basin were mainly developed from continental island arc,which is closely related to the evolution of the QinlingQilian Orogenic ***,the sandstones in the northwestern Ordos Basin show complex features,which may be resulted from a typical recycling *** evidence from petrography,geochemistry and sedimentology,together with previous researches suggest the Kongtongshan and Helanshan areas were the southwestern and northwestern boundary of the Ordos Basin,respectively,and there was no clear boundary between the Hexi Corridor Belt and Ordos Basin,where a large,uniform sediment dispersal system developed during the Late Triassic.

An accurate prediction of the critical gas velocity for the liquid loading is of great importance for operators to select the tubing diameter for the newly drilled gas wells,or to optimize the production rate for production *** is clear from previous experimental studies of the liquid entrainment rate in the gas core that the liquid is mainly carried in the form of film under the critical condition of the liquid loading *** is more reasonable to establish a mathematical model based on the film reversal rather than based on the droplet *** our previous paper entitled“Prediction of the critical gas velocity of liquid unloading in the horizontal gas well”,a new analytical model was established based on the force balance between the gas-liquid interfacial friction force and the bottom film gravity,but the model is not very convenient to use because of the complexity of calculating the average film *** the present study,a new method is proposed to calculate the average film thickness from the bubble drift velocity in the mixture,so the new analytical model becomes much easier to *** new analytical model is evaluated against 103 sets of experimental data,the data in 124 vertical gas wells and one horizontal gas ***,the effect ofthe liquid loading on the production of the horizontal gas well is also analyzed.

Characterization of the pore system in an over-mature marine shale reservoir:A case study of a successful shale gas well in Southern Sichuan Basin,China

During the past two years the shale gas exploration in Southern Sichuan basin received some exciting *** of a new appraisal well showed that the gas producrtions of vertical well and horizontal well are^1.5×104 m3/day/well(with maximum^3.5×104 m3/day/well)and^12.5×104 m3/day/well(with maximum^40×104 m3/day/well),respectively,indicating a good gas potential in this *** core samples from the reservoir were investigated by using a carbon sulfur analyzer,microphotometry,x-ray diffractometry,field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),mercury injection porosimetry(MIP),and low-pressure nitrogen adsorption to obtain a better understanding of the reservoir characteristics of the Upper OrdovicianeLower Silurian organic-rich *** show that the total organic carbon(TOC)content ranges from 0.5%to 5.9%,whereas the equivalent vitrinite reflectance(VRr)is between 2.8%and 3.0%.Pores in the studied samples were observed in three modes of occurrence,namely,interparticle pores,intraparticle pores,and intraparticle organic *** total porosity(P)ranges from 1.6%to 5.3%,and MIP data sets suggest that pores with throats larger than 20 nm contribute little to the pore ***-pressure N2 adsorption isotherms indicate that the total specific surface area(SBET)ranges from 9.6 m2/g to 18.9 m2/g,and the pore volume(V)ranges from 0.011 cm3/g to 0.020 cm3/*** plot of dV/dW versus W shows that the fine mesopores(pore size(BJH)2%are more than 3.0 m3/*** observation can be a good reference for the future

Main Controlling Factors and Accumulation Model of Chang 9 Reservoir in Northwest Ordos Basin, China

In northwestern Ordos Basin, the Triassic reservoir Chang 9 has favorable reservoir forming conditions, extensive reservoir development, and huge potential for oil exploration and exploitation. Studying the main controlling factors and accumulation model of Chang 9 reservoir in this area can provide a basis for the production targets, and assist in formulating reasonable development technology policy. In this paper, to explore and summarize the hydrocarbon accumulation model, the Chang 9 reservoir were analyzed from the aspects of oil source, fracture, oil migration, structure, lithology and reservoir physical properties for the main controlling factors in this area. Organic geochemical and geological comprehensive analysis that the oil-source of the Chang 9 reservoir in the northwest of Ordos Basin is derived from Chang 7 hydrocarbon source rocks. The fractures provide a sound channel for the "vertical multi-point filling" of the oil source from Chang 7 to Chang 9. The crude oil migrates vertically from Chang 7 to Chang 9, then expands horizontally to form a reservoir. Structures play an important role in controlling the distribution of reservoirs, the control by sand in small layer and physical property is also obvious. This paper creatively establishes the reservoir accumulation model of Chang 9 in northwest of Ordos Basin, which is characterized by Vertical multi-point filling, horizontal expansion becomes oil pool. It reveals the genetic mechanism of the development of Chang 9 multi-reservoir in the study area, which provides guidance for exploration and evaluation deployment.

Numerical Simulation of oil-Water Two-Phase Flow in Low Permeability Tight Reservoirs Based on Weighted Least Squares Meshless Method

In response to the complex characteristics of actual low-permeability tight reservoirs,this study develops a meshless-based numerical simulation method for oil-water two-phase flow in these reservoirs,considering complex boundary *** radial basis function point interpolation,the method approximates shape functions for unknown functions within the nodal influence *** shape functions constructed by the aforementioned meshless interpolation method haveδ-function properties,which facilitate the handling of essential aspects like the controlled bottom-hole flow pressure in horizontal ***,the meshless method offers greater flexibility and freedom compared to grid cell discretization,making it simpler to discretize complex geometries.A variational principle for the flow control equation group is introduced using a weighted least squares meshless method,and the pressure distribution is solved *** results demonstrate that the computational outcomes of the meshless point cloud model,which has a relatively small degree of freedom,are in close agreement with those of the Discrete Fracture Model(DFM)employing refined grid partitioning,with pressure calculation accuracy exceeding 98.2%.Compared to high-resolution grid-based computational methods,the meshless method can achieve a better balance between computational efficiency and ***,the impact of fracture half-length on the productivity of horizontal wells is *** results indicate that increasing the fracture half-length is an effective strategy for enhancing production from the perspective of cumulative oil production.
