Co-occurrence, sources and co-enrichment mechanism of arsenic, fluoride in groundwater from Huaihe River Basin, China

Arsenic(As),fluoride(F^(−))are both ubiquitous in groundwater,and co-exposure to these elements through contaminated drinking water may cause detrimental effects on human health more in comparison with individual ***,F^(−)co-occurrence in groundwater of the inland plain in Huaihe River Basin,China is a major concern,where inhabitants are rely on groundwater as the leading water source for drinking to *** work employs an approach of hydrochemical analysis and modelling to identify the possible origin of As and F^(−),to analyze co-enrichment mechanism,and to estimate the associated exposure *** results shows presence of elevated As and F^(−)concentrations is an important factor affecting groundwater quality from 62 groundwater *** recorded As concentrations vary from 0.23 to 20.40μg/L,with a mean of 5.95μg/L,F^(−)concentrations vary from 0.54 to 2.60μg/L,with a mean of 1.29 mg/L,and 8%of samples are simultaneously above their permissible limits in drinking water by the *** with As,F^(−)co-contamination is occurred within reducing and alkaline aquifers,and its chemical type is HCO_(3)–*** hydrochemical processes involved in the co-contamination are reductive desorption,evaporation,and ion exchange,which are controlled by local geology,geomorphology,and *** As is derived and released by reductive desorption and F^(−)is mainly originated by fluorite *** As,F^(−)are geogenic sources,and the mechanisms for co-contamination are associated with high elemental abundance,flat terrain,alkaline and reductive groundwater *** research provides a case study about groundwater As,F^(−)co-contamination,which may be enhance understanding the co-enrichment mechanism in semi-humid areas.

New Data on Coal, Gypsum, Iron and Silica Sand Deposits and Geochemical Exploration (Pakistan): Revision of 25 Years History of Dinosaur Discoveries from Pakistan

Discoveries of many coal seams at depths by drilling carried by geological survey of Pakistan in Sor Range and Harnai Gochina, extended the coal seams at depth which is challenge for mine owners to exploit feasibly. Bed to bed gypsum samplings (and their chemical analyses) of huge gypsum deposits from Sulaiman foldbelt is a base for industrialist and also planers to develop cement and gypsum industries to increase export and foreign exchange for the development of area and Pakistan. Low and high grade sedimentary iron deposits, silica sand and uranium host rocks and their extensions in Sulaiman and Kirthar foldbelts are presented. Anomalies of a few base metals arise as a result of geochemical exploration carried at part of Loralai District of Balochistan. Theropod dinosaurs were frequent in India, while Poripuchian titanosaurs (Sauropoda, Dinosauria) were frequent in Pakistan. Besides some ichnotaxa, many bone taxa such as 1 titanosauriform, 14 titanosaurian sauropod (including one new titanosaur), and 3 theropod dinosaurs are established from Pakistan. Among these 12 titanosaur species and 3 theropod species are named in about 10 km2 area of Vitakri dome and 2 titanosaur species are named in about a few hundred square meter area of Mari Bohri (Kachi Bohri) which is about 10 km westward from Vitakri dome. Pakistan is a unique country which discoverd 14 diversified titanosaurs in a short area and also in a short period (67 - 66 million years ago/Ma). About 400 bones found from a few meter thick upper part of upper shale horizon of latest Maastrichtian Vitakri Formation which is base for titanosaur taxa. Cranial material is in low fraction (but include significant diverse snouts), caudal vertebrae are prominent, the cervicals, dorsals and sacrals have significant numbers, forelimb and hind limb bones have balanced fraction. Material Composition of the Newly Discovered Zongzhuo Formation Sedimentary Mélange in the Dingri Area, Southern Tibet, and its Constraints on the Basin Controlling Dingri–Gamba Fault

The study of sedimentary mélanges holds pivotal importance in understanding orogenic processes and unveiling geodynamic mechanisms. In this study, we present findings on zircon U-Pb isotopes and whole-rock elemental data concerning the recently uncovered Zongzhuo Formation sedimentary mélanges within the Dingri area. Field observations reveal the predominant composition of the Zongzhuo Formation, characterized by a matrix of sandstone-mudstone mixed with sand-conglomerates within native blocks exhibiting soft sediment deformation. Moreover, exotic blocks originating from littoral–neritic seas display evidence of landslide deformation. Our study identifies the depositional environment of the Zongzhuo Formation in Dingri as a slope turbidite fan, with its provenance traced back to the passive continental margin. Notably, this contrasts with the Zongzhuo Formation found in the Jiangzi–Langkazi area. Based on existing data, we conclude that the Zongzhuo Formation in the Dingri area was influenced by the Dingri–Gamba fault and emerged within a fault basin of the passive continental margin due to Neo-Tethys oceanic subduction during the Late Cretaceous period. Its provenance can be attributed to the littoral–neritic sea of the northern Tethys Himalaya region. This study holds significant implications for understanding the tectonic evolution of Tethys Himalaya and for reevaluating the activity of the Dingri–Gamba fault, as it controls the active deposition of the Zongzhuo Formation.

Contamination assessment,source apportionment and associated health risks of PTEs in agricultural soil under five land-use patterns in Sanya,China

To understand the levels of potentially toxic elements(PTEs)contamination in soils and their effects on human health from different agricultural land use in Sanya,China.128 soil samples(64 topsoil samples and corresponding subsoil samples)were collected from the five representative land-use *** coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS),Atomic fluorescence spectrometry(AFS),and Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry(ICP-OES)were used to determine the content of PTEs(As,Cd,Hg,Cu,Cr,Ni,Pb,Zn,Co,Mo,Sb,and V).Correlation analysis and factor analysis were used to determine the source of ***-accumulation index(I_(geo)),hazard quotient(HQ),and total carcinogenic risk index(TR)were used to measure the PTEs contamination and its relative health *** showed that the average values of 12 PTEs in topsoil were higher than the Hainan soil geochemical baseline,showing different degrees of PTEs accumulation *** concentration of PTEs in the topsoil was lower than those in the subsoil except for Cd and *** I_(geo)revealed that the major accumulated element in soils was As followed by *** apportionment suggested that parent materials and agricultural practices were the dominant factors for PTEs accumulation in the *** risks of soil samples from five land-use patterns presented a trend of paddy field>dry field>woodland>orchard>garden ***,the HQ values of 12 PTEs were less than the recommended limit of HQ=1,representing that there are no non-carcinogenic risks of PTEs for children and adults in the study *** TR values are within 6.95×10^(-6)-1.38×10^(-5),which corresponds to the low *** the PTEs in the agricultural soil of the study area show little influence on the health status of the local population.

Detrital Zircon Geochronology of Early Triassic Strata in the West Qinling Orogen:Implications for the Tectonic Evolution of the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean

The West Qinling Orogen(WQO)is located in the western part of the Qinling Orogen and in the transition zone of Qilian Orogen,Songpan-Garze Orogen and Yangtze Block,and also the key position of Triassic collision orogenic *** study of the Early Triassic strata in the WQO is contributed to analyze the closure process of the *** conducted LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating studies on detrital zircons to determine the provenance,depositional age,and tectonic setting of the Early Triassic Longwuhe Formation in the Lintan area of the *** results show that the majority of the detrital zircons in the Longwuhe Formation are mainly magmatic origin and have characteristic of crust source *** lowest limit of sedimentation of the Longwuhe Formation is constrained to the Early Triassic,with the youngest detrital zircon age of 253±3 *** ages can be divided into five age groups:3346–1636 Ma,with two peak ages of ca.2495 and ca.1885 Ma;1585–1010 Ma,with a peak age at ca.1084 Ma;992–554 Ma,with a peak age at ca.939 Ma;521–421 Ma,with a peak age at ca.445 Ma;418–253 Ma,with a peak age at ca.280 ***,the sources of the Longwuhe Formation include the northern margin of the WQO,the Qilian Orogen(QLO)and the basement of the southern margin of the North China Block(NCB),of which the ancient basement of the southern margin of the NCB is the main source area of the Longwuhe *** with previous studies,we propose that the Longwuhe Formation was formed in a fore-arc basin,which is related to the closure of the A’nyemaqen-Mianlüe Ocean from the Early Permian to Early–Middle Triassic due to the northward subduction-collision of the Yangtze Block(YZB).This also indicates that the A’nyemaqen-Mianlüe Ocean has flat subduction characteristics.

A local rainfall-triggered giant landslide occurred in a region along a high-speed railway on the Qinghai‒Tibetan Plateau

An increasing number of geological hazards along high-speed railways on the Qinghai‒Tibetan Plateau have occurred and have resulted in a profound influence on old infrastructure,which has attracted increasing *** landslide event that occurred on September 15,2022,in Jiujiawan village,Xining city,Qinghai Province,is a typical *** on field investigations and remote sensing interpretations,a comprehensive analysis was conducted on the ***,the potential secondary failure of the current Jiujiawan landslide was assessed using Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua in Three Dimensions(FLAC3D).Based on the application of the small baseline subset-interferometric synthetic aperture radar(SBAS-InSAR)technique to SAR images from February 24,2017 to September 14,2022,a significant westward horizontal deformation was found to have been formed prior to the occurrence of the *** maximum annual average deformation rate in the line of sight(LOS)direction reached-45 mm/yr,with a maximum cumulative deformation of-178 *** value was consistent with the continual increase in annual precipitation(2.51 mm/yr)prior to the occurrence of the *** accumulated precipitation before the landslide was 279.8 mm,accounting for 54.2%of the total annual precipitation,with a particularly notable surge in monthly precipitation observed during August(250.3 mm).Additionally,the occurrence of a seismic event with a magnitude of Ms 6.9 in Menyuan County,80 km away from Xining,could be a potential triggering factor to the landslide,as evidenced by an abrupt subsidence alteration observed prior to and following the *** maximum subsidence in the line of sight(LOS)direction exceeded 11 mm,exhibiting a highly consistent spatial distribution with the occurrence range of *** results suggest that the Jiujiawan landslide was likely induced by earthquake events in the early stage and heavy rainfall in the later *** FLAC3D numerical

This study analyzed and summarized in detail the spatial and temporal distributions of earthquakes,tidal responses,focal mechanisms,and stress field characteristics for the M 7.3 Haicheng earthquake sequence in February *** foreshocks are related to the main fault and the conjugate faults surrounding the extension step-over in the *** initiation timing of the foreshock clusters and the original time of the mainshock were clearly modulated by the Earth's tidal force and coincided with the peak of dilational volumetric tidal *** a plausible and testable hypothesis,we proposed a fluid-driven foreshock model,by which all observed seismicity features can be more reasonably interpreted with respect to the results of existing *** with some other known examples,the widely existing step-over along strike-slip faults and associated conjugate faults,especially for extensional ones in the presence of deep fluids,favor the occurrence of short-term *** clustered seismicity with characteristics similar to those of the studied case is not a sufficient and necessary condition for large earthquakes to occur under similar tectonic conditions,it undoubtedly has a warning significance for the criticality of the main *** testing would require quantification of true/false positives/negatives.

Structural Control of the Getang Carlin-Type Gold Deposit in Southwest China

The Getang is a representative Carlin-type gold deposit in Southwest *** has a proven reserve of about 30 tonnes at an average grade of 5.1 g/t *** orebodies occur as strat-abound lenses,and are structurally controlled by shallow NWW-and NE-trending fold-fault systems and the unconformity between the Upper and Middle *** this study,the regional-and deposit-scale structural investigations,joints and finite strain measurements,and stress and dynamic analysis were conducted with an aim to reveal the structural process of the Getang gold deposit and clarify the relationship between the gold mineralization and *** phases of deformation were identified in the deposit:(1)paleokarst was generated by a crustal uplift when the Youjiang Basin experienced extension at the end of the Middle Permian,laying the foundation for the unconformity;(2)the NW-trending structures were formed under a NNE-SSW compression during the Indochina-South China collision(Indosinian orogeny)in Triassic;(3)the NE-trending structures were generated or reactivated under a NW-SE-oriented compression during the Yanshanian intracontinental *** unconformity recorded two episodes of tectonic evolution in the NNE-SSW and NW-SE *** analyses and geochronology data suggest that the Getang gold deposit was formed as a result of tectonic transition from compression to extension during the Yanshanian intracontinental orogeny.

Late Jurassic oceanic plateau subduction in the Bangong-Nujiang Tethyan Ocean of northern Tibet
