In light of growing urban traffic,car parking becomes increasingly critical for cities to *** a result,the prediction of parking occupancy has sparked significant research interest in recent *** many external data sources have been considered in the prediction models,the underlying geographic context has mostly been ***,in order to study the contribution of geospatial information to parking occupancy prediction models,road network centrality,land use,and Point of Interest(POI)data were incorporated in Random Forest(RF)and Artificial Neural Network(ANN,specifically Feedforward Neural Network FFNN)prediction models in this *** performances were compared to a baseline,which only considers historical and temporal input ***,the influence of the amount of training data,the prediction horizon,and the spatial variation of the prediction were *** results show that the inclusion of geospatial information led to a performance improvement of up to 25%compared to the ***,as the prediction horizon expanded,predictions became less reliable,while the relevance of geospatial data *** general,land use and POI data proved to be more beneficial than road network *** amount of training data did not have a significant influence on the performance of the RF *** ANN model,conversely,achieved optimal results on a training input of 5 *** attributable to varying occupancy patterns,prediction performance disparities could be identified for different parking districts and street ***,the RF model outperformed the ANN model on all predictions.

The páramo of the Northern Andes provide critically important ecosystem services to the Northern Andean region in the form of water provisioning and carbon sequestration, both of which are a result of the páramo?s organic-rich soils. Little is known, however, about the hydro-geomorphic characteristics of the rivers that drain these ecosystems. With impending plans for widespread hydro-development and increasing implementation of carbon-sequestering compensation for ecosystem services programs in the region it is imperative that we develop a thorough understanding of the hydrogeomorphic role that rivers play in this unique ecosystem. The objective of this study was to quantify bank erosion along an Amazonian headwater stream draining a small, relatively undisturbed páramo catchment to gain a better understanding of the natural erosion regime and the resulting sediment contributions from this unique ecosystem. This study implemented a combination of field, laboratory, and Geographic Information Systems techniques to quantify bank erosion rates and determine a bank erosion sediment yield from the Ningar River, a small páramo catchment(22.7 km^2) located in the eastern Andean cordillera of Ecuador. Results show that bank erosion rates range from 3.0 to ≥ 390.0 mm/yr, are highly episodic, and yield at least 487 tons of sediment annually to the Ningar River. These results imply that 1) páramo ecosystems substantially contribute to the sediment load of the Amazon River basin; 2) bank erosion is a potentially significant flux component of basin-scale carbon cycles in páramo ecosystems; and 3) hydrologic alteration campaigns(dam building) will likely critically alter these contributions and concomitantly disconnect a critical source of sediment and nutrients to downstream ecosystems.

Background Tropical floodplain wetlands are among the most disturbed and intensively harvested *** sustainable management is often hindered due to the lack of comprehensive,coherent,and standardized assessment frameworks of wetland ecological health(WEH).In this study,a set of appropriate criteria and indicators(C&I)of WEH assessment was developed and tested on seven wetlands of River Ichhamati,eastern *** Based on the pressure-state-response(PSR)approach,evaluation indicators representing ecological,socio-economic,and institutional sustainability issues of floodplain wetland systems were either selected or formulated through literature survey and stakeholder *** of indicators were assigned by the entropy weighting method and then used in the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution model to determine the Euclidean distances of each wetland from the positive ideal solution and negative ideal ***,a comprehensive wetland ecological health index(CWEHI)was constructed from these distances to portray the condition of any PSR system component in a wetland under a fivefold classification scheme,namely‘excellent health’(CWEHI≥0.81),‘good health’(0.61-0.80),‘moderate health’(0.41-0.60),‘weak health’(0.21-0.40),and‘morbid’(≤0.20).Results The developed C&I set contains 8 criteria and 38 indicators under pressure component,7 criteria and 49 indicators under state component,as well as 4 criteria and 18 indicators under response *** applied in 2016 and 2022,it was found that the Panchita and Aromdanga wetlands were continuously in weak and morbid health status,while the Madhabpur wetland always showed an excellent or good status for all *** of other wetlands oscillated between moderate and morbid health across assessment years and system *** The developed C&I set was found to be a flexible,holistic,and refined framework that could be applied elsewhere in sim

In order to evaluate whether or not the county units′ economy in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan(Chang-Zhu-Tan) Urban Agglomeration was growing as expected, this study analyzed the spatial economy pattern at county-level by using the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis(ESDA) method. In this process, the global Moran′s I and local Getis-Ord G*i indexes were employed to analyze indicators including per capita GDP and three industrials(i.e. primary, secondary and tertiary industry) from 2000 to 2010. The results show that: 1) the county units′ economy in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration has exhibited a strong spatial autocorrelation and an accelerated integration trend since 2008(Moran′ s I increased from 0.26 to 0.56); 2) there is a significant difference in economy development between the northern and southern county units in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration: the hotspot zone with high economic level was formed among the northern county units whereas the coldspot zone with low economic level was located in the southern areas. This difference was caused primarily by the increasingly prominent economic radiation effect of Changsha ′upheaval′; 3) town density, secondary industry, and the integration policy are the major contributors driving the evolution of the spatial economy pattern in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration.

Terrain reversal effect(TRE)causes reversed 3D shape perception in satellite images and shaded relief maps(SRMs),and introduces difficulties in identifying landforms such as valleys and *** this paper,in a controlled laboratory experiment,we compare how well 27 participants could identify valleys and ridges over 33 locations using SRMs,color satellite images and grayscale satellite *** main depth cue is shadow both in vertical-view images and ***,the presence of texture and color in images also affect 3D shape *** our participants experience the illusion strongly:with the SRMs,it is very severe(2%accuracy),with grayscale images low but considerably better than SRMs(17.6%accuracy),and slightly worse with color imagery(15.3%accuracy).These differences between SRMs and imagery suggest that the participants who are able to bypass the illusion consciously or subconsciously interpret the photographic *** support this observation further with a cue-strength ***,we provide exploratory analyses of the effects of expertise,global convexity bias,and bistable *** original empirical observations serve towards a better understanding of this visual illusion,and contribute towards nuanced and appropriate solutions to correcting for TRE differently for satellite images and SRMs.

Methane Dynamics in Northern Peatlands: A Review

Northern peatlands store a large amount of carbon and play a significant role in the global carbon cycle. Owing to the presence of waterlogged and anaerobic conditions, peatlands are typically a source of methane (CH4), a very potent greenhouse gas. This paper reviews the key mechanisms of peatland CH4 production, consumption and transport and the major environmental and biotic controls on peatland CH4 emissions. The advantages and disadvantages of micrometeorological and chamber methods in measuring CH4 fluxes from northern peatlands are also discussed. The magnitude of CH4 flux varies considerably among peatland types (bogs and fens) and microtopographic locations (hummocks and hollows). Some anthropogenic activities including forestry, peat harvesting and industrial emission of sulphur dioxide can cause a reduction in CH4 release from northern peatlands. Further research should be conducted to investigate the in fluence of plant growth forms on CH4 flux from northern peatlands, determine the water table threshold at which plant production in peatlands enhances CH4 release, and quantify peatland CH4 exchange at plant community level with a higher temporal resolution using automatic chambers.

The style of active tectonic on the deformation and characterization of fluvial landscape has been investigated on three typical skrike-slip fault zones of the Ajay-Damodar Interfluve（ADI） in Eastern India through field mapping,structural analysis and examination of digital topography（ASTER-30 m）,multispectral imageries,and Google Earth images,Channel morphology in Quaternary sediment is more deformed than Cenozoic lateritic tract and igneous rock system by the neotectonic activities,The structural and lithological controls on the river system in ADI region are reflected by distinct drainage patterns,abrupt change in flow direction,offset river channels,straight river lines,ponded river channel,marshy lands,sag ponds,palaeo-channels,alluvial fans,meander cutoffs,multi-terrace river valley,incised compressed meander,convexity of channel bed slope and knick points in longitudinal profile,Seven morphotectonic indices have been used to infer the role of neotectonic on the modification of channel morphology,A tectonic index map for the ADI region has been prepared by the integration of used morphotectonic indices,which is also calibrated by Bouguer gravity anomaly data and field investigation.
