Pharmacological intervention for chronic phase of spinal cord injury

Spinal cord injury is an intractable traumatic injury. The most common hurdles faced during spinal cord injury are failure of axonal regrowth and reconnection to target sites. These also tend to be the most challenging issues in spinal cord injury. As spinal cord injury progresses to the chronic phase, lost motor and sensory functions are not recovered. Several reasons may be attributed to the failure of recovery from chronic spinal cord injury. These include factors that inhibit axonal growth such as activated astrocytes, chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan, myelin-associated proteins, inflammatory microglia, and fibroblasts that accumulate at lesion sites. Skeletal muscle atrophy due to denervation is another chronic and detrimental spinal cord injury–specific condition. Although several intervention strategies based on multiple outlooks have been attempted for treating spinal cord injury, few approaches have been successful. To treat chronic spinal cord injury, neural cells or tissue substitutes may need to be supplied in the cavity area to enable possible axonal growth. Additionally, stimulating axonal growth activity by extrinsic factors is extremely important and essential for maintaining the remaining host neurons and transplanted neurons. This review focuses on pharmacotherapeutic approaches using small compounds and proteins to enable axonal growth in chronic spinal cord injury. This review presents some of these candidates that have shown promising outcomes in basic research(in vivo animal studies) and clinical trials: AA-NgR(310)ecto-Fc(AXER-204), fasudil, phosphatase and tensin homolog protein antagonist peptide 4, chondroitinase ABC, intracellular sigma peptide,(-)-epigallocatechin gallate, matrine, acteoside, pyrvate kinase M2, diosgenin, granulocyte-colony stimulating factor, and fampridine-sustained release. Seismic design of variable cross-section damped steel support frame for post equipment

High-voltage electrical post equipment is generally installed on steel supports,which amplifies the seismic inputs and degrades the seismic performance of *** study proposed a variable cross-section damped steel support frame(VCDFS)with viscous dampers to reduce seismic responses of both tall and low-rise electrical *** VCDFS contains a trapezoidal damper layer to generate rocking motions,enabling the diagonal viscous dampers to dissipate seismic inputs.A theoretical model of post equipment with VCDFS is established,and an optimal design procedure is *** analysis shows that the remaining static stiffness ratio λ_(k) is the key parameter that determines the effectiveness of the *** VCDFS reduces the average displacement and stress response of a post insulator by 39.4%and 44.6%,respectively,together with a significant decrease in the dynamic amplification ***,it is recommended to use the VCDFS instead of the conventional latticed-steel frame in earthquake zones.

The role of copper element has been an increasingly relevant topic in recent years in the fields of human and animal health, for both the study of new drugs and innovative food and feed supplements. This metal plays an important role in the central nervous system, where it is associated with glutamatergic signaling, and it is widely involved in inflammatory processes. Thus, diseases involving copper(Ⅱ) dyshomeostasis often have neurological symptoms, as exemplified by Alzheimer's and other diseases(such as Parkinson's and Wilson's diseases). Moreover, imbalanced copper ion concentrations have also been associated with diabetes and certain types of cancer, including glioma. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive overview of recent results that show the importance of these metal ions in several pathologies, mainly Alzheimer's disease, through the lens of the development and use of copper chelators as research compounds and potential therapeutics if included in multi-target hybrid drugs. Seeing how copper homeostasis is important for the well-being of animals as well as humans, we shortly describe the state of the art regarding the effects of copper and its chelators in agriculture, livestock rearing, and aquaculture, as ingredients for the formulation of feed supplements as well as to prevent the effects of pollution on animal productions.

Atractylenolide Ⅰ ameliorates post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome by inhibiting the polymerase Ⅰ and transcript release factor and c-Jun N-terminal kinase/inducible nitric oxide synthase pathway

OBJECTIVE: To explore the therapeutic effect and target of atractylenolide I(AT-I) on post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome(PI-IBS) rats. METHODS: Therefore, the preliminarily mechanism of AT-I in anti-PI-IBS were first predicted by network pharmacology and molecular docking, then the possible signaling pathways were systematically analyzed. Finally, the potential therapeutic targets and possible signaling pathways of AT-I on PI-IBS in Sprague-Dawley(SD) rat model were verified by experiments. RESULTS: AT-I could alleviate PI-IBS symptoms and reduce the expression of tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin-6 and Interferon-gamma in PI-IBS SD rat model and inhibit the c-Jun N-terminal kinase/inducible nitric oxide synthase(JNK/iNOS) pathway. Notably, AT-I treatment could inhibit the overexpression of polymerase Ⅰ and transcript release factor(PTRF). CONCLUSION: AT-I could alleviate PI-IBS symptoms through downregulation of PTRF and inhibiting the JNK/iNOS pathway. This study not only provides a scientific basis to clarify the anti-PI-IBS effect of AT-I and its mechanism but also suggests a novel promising therapeutic strategy to treat the PI-IBS.

End-To-End Encryption Enabled Lightweight Mutual Authentication Scheme for Resource Constrained IoT Network

Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication networks consist of resource-constrained autonomous devices, also known as autonomous Internet of things (IoTs) or machine-type communication devices (MTCDs) which act as a backbone for Industrial IoT, smart cities, and other autonomous systems. Due to the limited computing and memory capacity, these devices cannot maintain strong security if conventional security methods are applied such as heavy encryption. This article proposed a novel lightweight mutual authentication scheme including elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) driven end-to-end encryption through curve25519 such as (i): efficient end-to-end encrypted communication with pre-calculation strategy using curve25519;and (ii): elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) based mutual authentication technique through a novel lightweight hash function. The proposed scheme attempts to efficiently counter all known perception layer security threats. Moreover, the pre-calculated key generation strategy resulted in cost-effective encryption with 192-bit curve security. It showed comparative efficiency in key strength, and curve strength compared with similar authentication schemes in terms of computational and memory cost, communication performance and encryption robustness.

Rockburst prediction based on multi-featured drilling parameters and extreme tree algorithm for full-section excavated tunnel faces

The suddenness, uncertainty, and randomness of rockbursts directly affect the safety of tunnel construction. The prediction of rockbursts is a fundamental aspect of mitigating or even eliminating rockburst hazards. To address the shortcomings of the current rockburst prediction models, which have a limited number of samples and rely on manual test results as the majority of their input features, this paper proposes rockburst prediction models based on multi-featured drilling parameters of rock drilling jumbo. Firstly, four original drilling parameters, namely hammer pressure (Ph), feed pressure (Pf), rotation pressure (Pr), and feed speed (VP), together with the rockburst grades, were collected from 1093 rockburst cases. Then, a feature expansion investigation was performed based on the four original drilling parameters to establish a drilling parameter feature system and a rockburst prediction database containing 42 features. Furthermore, rockburst prediction models based on multi-featured drilling parameters were developed using the extreme tree (ET) algorithm and Bayesian optimization. The models take drilling parameters as input parameters and rockburst grades as output parameters. The effects of Bayesian optimization and the number of drilling parameter features on the model performance were analyzed using the accuracy, precision, recall and F1 value of the prediction set as the model performance evaluation indices. The results show that the Bayesian optimized model with 42 drilling parameter features as inputs performs best, with an accuracy of 91.89%. Finally, the reliability of the models was validated through field tests.

Experiments on image data augmentation techniques for geological rock type classification with convolutional neural networks

The integration of image analysis through deep learning(DL)into rock classification represents a significant leap forward in geological *** traditional methods remain invaluable for their expertise and historical context,DL offers a powerful complement by enhancing the speed,objectivity,and precision of the classification *** research explores the significance of image data augmentation techniques in optimizing the performance of convolutional neural networks(CNNs)for geological image analysis,particularly in the classification of igneous,metamorphic,and sedimentary rock types from rock thin section(RTS)*** study primarily focuses on classic image augmentation techniques and evaluates their impact on model accuracy and *** demonstrate that augmentation techniques like Equalize significantly enhance the model's classification capabilities,achieving an F1-Score of 0.9869 for igneous rocks,0.9884 for metamorphic rocks,and 0.9929 for sedimentary rocks,representing improvements compared to the baseline original ***,the weighted average F1-Score across all classes and techniques is 0.9886,indicating an ***,methods like Distort lead to decreased accuracy and F1-Score,with an F1-Score of 0.949 for igneous rocks,0.954 for metamorphic rocks,and 0.9416 for sedimentary rocks,exacerbating the performance compared to the *** study underscores the practicality of image data augmentation in geological image classification and advocates for the adoption of DL methods in this domain for automation and improved *** findings of this study can benefit various fields,including remote sensing,mineral exploration,and environmental monitoring,by enhancing the accuracy of geological image analysis both for scientific research and industrial applications.
