Bone metastases from lung cancer account for 8.5%,with those located in the hyoid bone being extremely rare.In this editorial,we made a review about Hsu et al case report highlighted the importance of palliative radiotherapy,even with an unusual but effective scheme in pain control in a patient with non-small cell lung cancer in stage IV.

Introduction: Dracaena cinnabari is considered a rich source of phytochemicals used widely in traditional medicine. In the present study, the effect of D. cinnabari hydraulic extract on the reproductive system of female rats was investigated. Methods: The samples were randomly divided into four groups(six samples in each group), including three treatment groups and one control group, and all samples were kept at the same conditions. Hydraulic extract of D. cinnabari and injected intraperitoneally daily for 10 days, while physiological serum was used for injection in to the control group. After 10 days of injection, estrogen and progesterone levels were measured by enzyme immunoassay technique. After dissection, the ovaries and uterine tissues were isolated for histological examination, and tissue changes were carefully examined. Results: The results revealed that the levels of estrogen and progesterone in experimental Groups 2 and 3 had a significant increase(P < 0.001). Regarding tissue changes, a significant increase was observed in epithelial thickness(P < 0.001), number of corpus luteum(P < 0.01), and Graafian follicle(P < 0.01) in doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg. Conclusions: Based on the results, it seems that D. cinnabari extract has an effect on the ovarian follicles.

The Ailaoshan Orogen in the southeastern Tibet Plateau,situated between the Yangtze and Simao blocks,underwent a complex structural,magmatic,and metamorphic evolution resulting in different tectonic subzones with varying structural lineaments and elemental concentrations.These elements can conceal or reduce anomalies due to the mutual effect between different anomaly areas.Dividing the whole zone into subzones based on tectonic settings,ore cluster areas,or sample catchment basins(Scb),geochemical and structural anomalies associated with gold(Au)mineralization have been identified utilizing mean plus twice standard deviations(Mean+2STD),factor analysis(FA),concentration-area(CA)modeling of stream sediment geochemical data,and lineament density in both the Ailaoshan Orogen and the individual subzones.The FA in the divided 98 Scbs with 6 Scbs containing Au deposits can roughly ascertain unknown rock types,identify specific element associations of known rocks and discern the porphyry or skarn-type Au mineralization.Compared with methods of Mean+2STD and C-A model of data in the whole orogen,which mistake the anomalies as background or act the background as anomalies,the combined methods of FA and C-A in the separate subzones or Scbs works well in regional metallogenic potential analysis.Mapping of lineament densities with a 10-km circle diameter is not suitable to locate Au deposits because of the delineated large areas of medium-high lineament density.In contrast,the use of circle diameters of 1.3 km or 1.7 km in the ore cluster scale delineates areas with a higher concentration of lineament density,consistent with the locations of known Au deposits.By analyzing the map of faults and Au anomalies,two potential prospecting targets,Scbs 1 and 63 with a sandstone as a potential host rock for Au,have been identified in the Ailaoshan Orogen.The use of combined methods in the divided subzones proved to be more effective in improving geological understanding and identifying mineralization anomalies associated with Au,rath

Geochemistry and genesis of heavy oil in the Erlian Basin

Heavy oil is commonly distributed in the Erlian Basin, North China. It can be divided into two genetic types: the primary and the secondary. Primary heavy oil is generated directly by Cretaceous immature or low-mature hydrocarbon sources, or is derived from differentiation of crude oil during migration. Oil of this type has viscosity varying in the range of 100-5000 mPa·s. By contrast, secondary heavy oil, which has been thickened to various degrees, is resultant from a combination of biodegradation, water-leaching and oxidation of primary heavy oil. Based upon a large number of determinations on the physical properties of crude oil, GC analyses of saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons, and GC-MS analyses of steranes and terpanes, the characteristics of heavy oil of various types have been described. Differences in inspissation degree have made it possible the grouping of heavy oil of the Erlian Basin into an inspissation series, i.e., low maturity and immature heavy oil with viscosity of 100-2000 mPa·s, weakly biodegradated heavy oil with viscosity of 500-5000 mPa·s, moderately biodegradated heavy oil with viscosity of 1000-50000 mPa·s and highly biodegradated heavy oil with viscosity over 50000 mPa·s. With the progress of inspissation, the products vary from common heavy to over-heavy oil. Slope and uplifted areas inside a reservoir basin are most favorable to the inspissation and formation of heavy oil. Interaction of several mechanisms of inspissation has resulted in a widespread distribution of heavy oil within the Erlian Basin.

Ferroptosis,a unique modality of cell death with mechanistic and morphological differences from other cell death modes,plays a pivotal role in regulating tumorigenesis and offers a new opportunity for modulating anticancer drug resistance.Aberrant epigenetic modifications and posttranslational modifications(PTMs)promote anticancer drug resistance,cancer progression,and metastasis.Accumulating studies indicate that epigenetic modifications can transcriptionally and translationally determine cancer cell vulnerability to ferroptosis and that ferroptosis functions as a driver in nervous system diseases(NSDs),cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),liver diseases,lung diseases,and kidney diseases.In this review,we first summarize the core molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis.Then,the roles of epigenetic processes,including histone PTMs,DNA methylation,and noncoding RNA regulation and PTMs,such as phosphorylation,ubiquitination,SUMOylation,acetylation,methylation,and ADP-ribosylation,are concisely discussed.The roles of epigenetic modifications and PTMs in ferroptosis regulation in the genesis of diseases,including cancers,NSD,CVDs,liver diseases,lung diseases,and kidney diseases,as well as the application of epigenetic and PTM modulators in the therapy of these diseases,are then discussed in detail.Elucidating the mechanisms of ferroptosis regulation mediated by epigenetic modifications and PTMs in cancer and other diseases will facilitate the development of promising combination therapeutic regimens containing epigenetic or PTM-targeting agents and ferroptosis inducers that can be used to overcome chemotherapeutic resistance in cancer and could be used to prevent other diseases.In addition,these mechanisms highlight potential therapeutic approaches to overcome chemoresistance in cancer or halt the genesis of other diseases.

BACKGROUND Image-guided radiotherapy(IGRT)has significantly improved the precision in which radiotherapy is delivered in cancer treatment.Typically,IGRT uses bony landmarks and key anatomical structures to locate the tumor.Recent studies have demonstrated the feasibility of peri-tumor fiducials in enabling even more accurate delineation of target and normal tissue.The use of gold coils as fiducials in gastrointestinal tumors has been extensively studied.However,placement requires expertise and specialized endoscopic ultrasound equipment.This article reports the long-term outcomes of using a standard gastroscopy to inject liquid fiducials for the treatment of oesophageal and gastric tumors with IGRT.AIM To assess the long-term outcomes of liquid fiducial-guided IGRT in a cohort of oesophageal and gastric cancer patients.METHODS A retrospective cohort study of consecutive adults with Oesophagogastric cancers referred for liquid fiducial placement before definitive/neo-adjuvant or palliative IGRT between 2013 and 2021 at a tertiary hospital in Melbourne,Australia was conducted.Up to four liquid fiducials were inserted per patient,each injection consisting of 0.2-0.5mL of a 1:1 mixture of iodized oil(Lipiodol;Aspen Pharmacare)and n-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate(Histoacryl®;B.Braun).A 23-gauge injector(Cook Medical)was used for the injection.All procedures were performed by or under the supervision of a gastroenterologist.Liquid fiducial-based IGRT(LF-IGRT)consisted of computer-assisted direct matching of the fiducial region on cone-beam computerised tomography at the time of radiotherapy.Patients received standard-IGRT(S-IGRT)if fiducial visibility was insufficient,consisting of bone match as a surrogate for tumor position.Radiotherapy was delivered to 54Gy in 30 fractions for curative patients and up to 45Gy in 15 fractions for palliative treatments.RESULTS 52 patients were referred for liquid fiducial placement within the study period.A total of 51 patients underwent liquid fiducial implantation.Of these a total of 31 pati

Abnormal fertilization in ICSI and its association with abnormal semen parameters:a retrospective observational study on 1855 cases

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)efficiently addresses male factor infertility.However,the occurrence of abnormal fertilization,mainly characterized by abnormal pronuclei(PN)patterns,merits investigation.To investigate abnormal fertilization patterns following ICSI and identify their respective associations with abnormal parameters in semen analysis(SA),a retrospective observational study including 1855 cycles was performed.Male infertility diagnosis relied on the 2010 WHO criteria.The population was divided into groups based on their SA results.The presence of 2PNs and extrusion of the second polar body(PB)indicated normal fertilization.A Kruskal–Wallis test along with a Wilcoxon post hoc evaluation and Bonferroni correction was employed for comparison among the groups.For the pregnancy rate,logistic regression was employed.No correlation was established between the SA abnormalities and the 1PN or 3PN formation rates.The highest and lowest 0PN rates were reported for the oligoasthenoteratozoospermic and normal groups,respectively.The lowest cleavage formation rates were identified in the oligoasthenozoospermic and oligoasthenoteratozoospermic groups.The aforementioned groups along with the oligoteratozoospermic group similarly presented the lowest blastocyst formation rates.For the clinical pregnancy rate,no statistically significant difference was observed.In conclusion,the incidence of two or more abnormal SA parameters–with the common denominator being oligozoospermia–may jeopardize normal fertilization,cleavage,and blastocyst rates.Once the developmental milestone of achieving blastocyst stage status was achieved,only oligoasthenozoospermia and oligoasthenoteratozoospermia were associated with lower rates.Interestingly,following adjustment for the number of blastocysts,no statistically significant differences were observed.
