In this editorial we comment on the article by Pavlidis et al,published in the recent issue of the World Journal of *** focus on the recent contributions in the management of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma,highlighting the importance of surgery and radiotherapy as first line therapies in its management and the introduction of new systemic therapies beyond chemotherapy,focused on molecular alterations,an essential step in the diagnosis and included in clinical guidelines for the selection of the ideal *** contrast to other neoplasms,immunotherapy,is still beginning in studies of this pathology with encouraging ***,multimodal management of the pathology together with new drugs seems to be the logical step to increase the survival of this neoplasm.

Examining the Effect of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Dracaena cinnabari on Sex Hormones and Ovarian and Uterine Tissues of Rats

Introduction: Dracaena cinnabari is considered a rich source of phytochemicals used widely in traditional medicine. In the present study, the effect of D. cinnabari hydraulic extract on the reproductive system of female rats was investigated. Methods: The samples were randomly divided into four groups(six samples in each group), including three treatment groups and one control group, and all samples were kept at the same conditions. Hydraulic extract of D. cinnabari and injected intraperitoneally daily for 10 days, while physiological serum was used for injection in to the control group. After 10 days of injection, estrogen and progesterone levels were measured by enzyme immunoassay technique. After dissection, the ovaries and uterine tissues were isolated for histological examination, and tissue changes were carefully examined. Results: The results revealed that the levels of estrogen and progesterone in experimental Groups 2 and 3 had a significant increase(P was observed in epithelial thickness(P < 0.001), number of corpus luteum(P < 0.01), and Graafian follicle(P < 0.01) in doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg. Conclusions: Based on the results, it seems that D. cinnabari extract has an effect on the ovarian follicles.

The Ailaoshan Orogen in the southeastern Tibet Plateau,situated between the Yangtze and Simao blocks,underwent a complex structural,magmatic,and metamorphic evolution resulting in different tectonic subzones with varying structural lineaments and elemental *** elements can conceal or reduce anomalies due to the mutual effect between different anomaly *** the whole zone into subzones based on tectonic settings,ore cluster areas,or sample catchment basins(Scb),geochemical and structural anomalies associated with gold(Au)mineralization have been identified utilizing mean plus twice standard deviations(Mean+2STD),factor analysis(FA),concentration-area(CA)modeling of stream sediment geochemical data,and lineament density in both the Ailaoshan Orogen and the individual *** FA in the divided 98 Scbs with 6 Scbs containing Au deposits can roughly ascertain unknown rock types,identify specific element associations of known rocks and discern the porphyry or skarn-type Au *** with methods of Mean+2STD and C-A model of data in the whole orogen,which mistake the anomalies as background or act the background as anomalies,the combined methods of FA and C-A in the separate subzones or Scbs works well in regional metallogenic potential *** of lineament densities with a 10-km circle diameter is not suitable to locate Au deposits because of the delineated large areas of medium-high lineament *** contrast,the use of circle diameters of 1.3 km or 1.7 km in the ore cluster scale delineates areas with a higher concentration of lineament density,consistent with the locations of known Au *** analyzing the map of faults and Au anomalies,two potential prospecting targets,Scbs 1 and 63 with a sandstone as a potential host rock for Au,have been identified in the Ailaoshan *** use of combined methods in the divided subzones proved to be more effective in improving geological understanding and identifying

Heavy oil is commonly distributed in the Erlian Basin, North China. It can be divided into two genetic types: the primary and the secondary. Primary heavy oil is generated directly by Cretaceous immature or low-mature hydrocarbon sources, or is derived from differentiation of crude oil during migration. Oil of this type has viscosity varying in the range of 100-5000 mPa·s. By contrast, secondary heavy oil, which has been thickened to various degrees, is resultant from a combination of biodegradation, water-leaching and oxidation of primary heavy oil. Based upon a large number of determinations on the physical properties of crude oil, GC analyses of saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons, and GC-MS analyses of steranes and terpanes, the characteristics of heavy oil of various types have been described. Differences in inspissation degree have made it possible the grouping of heavy oil of the Erlian Basin into an inspissation series, i.e., low maturity and immature heavy oil with viscosity of 100-2000 mPa·s, weakly biodegradated heavy oil with viscosity of 500-5000 mPa·s, moderately biodegradated heavy oil with viscosity of 1000-50000 mPa·s and highly biodegradated heavy oil with viscosity over 50000 mPa·s. With the progress of inspissation, the products vary from common heavy to over-heavy oil. Slope and uplifted areas inside a reservoir basin are most favorable to the inspissation and formation of heavy oil. Interaction of several mechanisms of inspissation has resulted in a widespread distribution of heavy oil within the Erlian Basin.

Sexual Function in Men with Castrate Levels of Testosterone: Observations of a Subgroup of Sexually Active Men with Prostate Cancer Undergoing Androgen Deprivation Therapy

Purpose: To identify possible factors that influence sexual function in men undergoing maximal androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Patients and Methods: A descriptive exploration was performed looking at characteristics of twenty-two men reporting sexual activity after nine months of maximal ADT. This previously published Phase II study, involved 250 prostate cancer patients undergoing intermittent ADT. An analysis between this cohort and the group that did not maintain sexual function was performed to ascertain if age, testosterone level, functional status or maintenance of quadriceps strength had an impact upon sexual function. Results: There was no difference in age, testosterone level or ECOG performance status between the sexually active and non-sexually active groups. Over the course of 9 months of ADT, the sexually active group appeared to maintain quadriceps muscle strength as measured with physical stands, and maintained overall health as measured by quality of life questionaries, compared to the non-sexually active group. Conclusions: This retrospective study suggests that exercise during ADT may reduce the impact of ADT on sexual function. This warrants further testing, and could be the focus of future randomised controlled trials.

越来越多的证据表明,白云鄂博超大型稀土矿床与区内分布的火成碳酸岩有密切的成因联系,因此精确约束碳酸岩的侵位时代对研究成矿历史和机制非常关键.然而,由于后期复杂的热液叠加影响,以往的年代学研究结果大多得到后期扰动事件的年龄,而对碳酸岩岩浆活动的启动时间的制约则比较缺乏.为重建白云鄂博碳酸岩型稀土矿的岩浆—热液成矿历史,我们利用SHRIMP离子探针对一号碳酸岩墙(吴氏岩墙)及其蚀变围岩样品开展了薄片原位独居石Th-Pb年代学研究.碳酸岩中最老的独居石记录了其侵入时代1401±39 Ma (MSWD=0.57,n=7),这是首次从白云鄂博的独居石得到碳酸岩初始岩浆年龄,证实白云鄂博碳酸岩可能代表了华北克拉通从Nuna超大陆裂解过程中早期岩浆作用产物.同时,碳酸岩和霓长岩化围岩中的独居石还获得了格林威尔期到加里东期的一系列年龄数据,反映了后期构造热事件的叠加—扰动记录.尤其是,本研究识别出泛非期构造事件的独居石年代学记录(529±17 Ma,MSWD=1.01,n=6)并对其地质意义进行了初步探讨.本文的研究结果和认识为理解白云鄂博碳酸岩型稀土矿的岩浆-热液历史及成矿构造动力学背景提供了新的关键证据,所采用的研究方法对解决类似碳酸岩和稀土矿的年代学问题具有启示意义.
