Real-World Wireless Network Modeling and Optimization:From Model/Data-Driven Perspective

With the rapid development of the fifth-generation wireless communication systems, a profound revolution in terms of transmission capacity, energy efficiency, reliability, latency, and connectivity is highly expected to support a new batch of industries and applications. To achieve this goal, wireless networks are becoming extremely dynamic, heterogeneous, and complex. The modeling and optimization for the performance of realworld wireless networks are extremely challenging due to the difficulty to predict the network performance as a function of network parameters, and the prohibitively huge number of parameters to optimize. The conventional network modeling and optimization approaches rely on drive test, trial-and-error, and engineering experience,which are labor intensive, error-prone, and far from optimal. On the other hand, while the research community has spent significant efforts in understanding the fundamental limits of radio channels and developing physical layer techniques to operate close to it, very little is known about the performance limits of wireless networks, where millions of radio channels interact with one another in complex manners. This paper reviews the very recent mathematical and learning based techniques for modeling and optimizing the performance of real-world wireless networks in five aspects, including channel modeling, user demand and traffic modeling, throughput modeling and prediction, network parameter optimization, and IRS empowered performance optimization, and also presents the corresponding notable performance gains.

Development of an ANN-based building energy model for information-poor buildings using transfer learning

Accurate building energy prediction is vital to develop optimal control strategies to enhance building energy efficiency and energy *** recent years,the data-driven approach based on machine learning algorithms has been widely adopted for building energy prediction due to the availability of massive data in building automation systems(BASs),which automatically collect and store real-time building operational *** new buildings and most existing buildings without installing advanced BASs,there is a lack of sufficient data to train data-driven predictive *** learning is a promising method to develop accurate and reliable data-driven building energy prediction models with limited training data by taking advantage of the rich data/knowledge obtained from other *** studies focused on the influences of source building datasets,pre-training data volume,and training data volume on the performance of the transfer learning *** present study aims to develop a transfer learning-based ANN model for one-hour ahead building energy prediction to fill this research *** 400 non-residential buildings’data from the open-source Building Genome Project are used to test the proposed *** analysis demonstrates that transfer learning can effectively improve the accuracy of BPNN-based building energy models for information-poor buildings with very limited training *** most influential building features which influence the effectiveness of transfer learning are found to be building usage and *** research outcomes can provide guidance for implementation of transfer learning,especially in selecting appropriate source buildings and datasets for developing accurate building energy prediction models.

The inherent electrocatalytic potential of transition metal phosphides（TMPs） for oxygen evolution is influenced by the reduced efficiency of electron transfer resulting from the interaction between electronegative phosphorus atoms and transition ***,we introduce Fe into Ni2P nanocrystals by thermal injection synthesis method,and anchor them on nickel foam（NF） by facile spraying to prepare self-supporting oxygen evolution reaction（OER） ***,the optimized electrode of Ni2P-Fe-2/NF demonstrates low overpotentials of 212 mV with 10 mA·cm-2and a 0.9% decay within300 h test of 50 mA·***,when electrode size was expanded to 600 cm2and applied to a larger electrolyzer,its 9 h decay rate at 6 A current was only 1.69%.Characterization results show that Fe doped NiOOH is generated during OER reaction as actual catalyst,Results from density functional theory（DFT） computations suggest that Fe doping shifts NiOOH d-band center to Fermi level,lowering critical*OOH intermediates formation energy barrier during the OER *** findings inform the large-scale industrial application of TMPs as robust electrocatalysts.

Nonlinearity Estimation and Compensation for Accurate PMSM Modeling and Voltage Prediction

For permanent magnet synchronous machine(PMSM),the machine model is critical to predict the operating states for motor control,which,however,can be greatly affected by system ***,this paper investigates accurate machine modeling for control and parameter *** the proposed approach,the PMSM model with saturated inductances is used as the base model,and this paper investigates modeling and compensation of the offsets to the base model due to system nonlinearities such as saturation and core loss effects for accurate machine modeling and voltage ***,the offsets to the base model are modeled using nonlinear functions with variable coefficients to compensate saturation and core loss effect,which can achieve better accuracy without changing the model structure.A differential estimation model is derived to estimate the model coefficients from a small amount of measurements with simplified ***,the model offset calculation is both computation and memory efficient with simplified *** contribution is to improve the machine model accuracy and achieve precise voltage prediction for practical ***,comparisons and the application to temperature estimation are conducted on a test interior PMSM to validate the proposed approach.

Demonstrating Fuel Flexibility in Commercial Operation

Synthesis Energy systems inc. (SES) enables its customers to advance gasification projects through commercial scale feedstock testing at its commercial scale coal to syngas facility in Zhao Zhuang City (ZZ Plant), Shandong Province, China. These tests help customers affirm individual project economic viability and reduce technology risk. included in these test campaigns have been one and two-week long continuous operations at varying loads and on widely-varying feedstock such as Chinese Inner Mongolian lignite, Chinese sub-bituminous high ash (and high friable) coal, and Aus- tralian Queensland high ash sub-bituminous coal. Through these campaigns, SES has progressed one project into the detailed engineering and construction phase and one project into the feasibility study phase. SES believes that the abi- lity to perform these commercial scale campaigns without interruption of operation is unique to SES. The ZZ Plant, which sells clean syngas to a neighboring methanol facility, has been in operation since early 2008 on a design coal of high ash middlings (washery wastes) from ROM bituminous coal (30% - 40% wt ash). SES has made significant im-provements to the design, operation, and efficiency of the ZZ Plant and U-GAS technology that is licensed from Gas Technology Institute (GTI). included in these is the Fines Management System (FMS), which has demonstrated overall carbon conversion of greater than 98%. The ZZ Plant consistently demonstrates fuel flexibility and greater than 98% availability, 98% carbon conversion, and 80% cold gas efficiency.

Influence of Layered Aluminoborophosphate on Flame Retardance, Crystallization Behaviors and Mechanical Properties of Polyamide 66 systems

A layered aluminoborophosphate（LABP-DDA） was hydrothermally synthesized using dodecylamine as a structure-directing agent, and was added into polyamide 66（PA66） to obtain nanocomposites, PA66/LABP-DDA, via melt intercalation method. The characterization results of transmission electron microscopy（TEM） and small angle X-ray scattering （SAXS） indicate that LABP-DDA has been successfully exfoliated into nano-layers of PA66 matrix. The unstable γ phase of PA66 was found in the composites with the help of X-ray diffraction（XRD） and differential scanning calorimetry（DSC）. The heterogeneous nucleation effect of LABP-DDA resulted in an increasement of about 10 ℃ in melting temperature and an increasement of about 7% in crystallinity when compared with those of neat PA66. The introduction of LABP-DDA did not significantly affect the toughness and strength of PA66. The results of flammability test indicate that LABP-DDA possesses positive synergistic flame retarding effect in the presence of melamine polyphosphate（MPP） and the 77%PA66/（23-x）%MPP/x%LABP-DDA（x=1, 2） samples in thickness of 1.6 mm reached from Fail to V-1 rating based on UL94, compared with 77% PA66/23%MPE.

Modeling and Simulation of Cyber-Physical systems(MSCPS)is demanding in terms of immediate response to dynamic and complex changes of ***-oriented model reuse can be used to build a whole CPS model by reusing developed models in a new sim-ulation application,which avoid repeated modeling and thus reduce the redevelopment of *** composition,one of the important methods,enables model reuse by selecting and adopting diversified integration solutions of simulation components to meet the requirements of simulation application *** this paper,a real-time model integration approach for global CPS modeling is proposed,which reuses devel-oped submodels by compositing submodel ***,a constrained directed graph of submodels for the whole system which can meet the simulation requirements is constructed by reverse *** properties,including co-simulation distance between submodel nodes,reuse benefit and simulation performance of model nodes,are *** on the properties,the model-integrated solution for the whole CPS simulation is retrieved throughout the model constrained digraph by the Genetic Algo-rithm(GA).In the experiment,the proposed method is applied to a typical model integrated computing scenario containing multiple model-integration solutions,among which the Pareto optimal solutions are *** show that the effectiveness of the model integration method proposed in this paper is verified.

In combined electric and heat systems,selecting a suitable testbed for power flow analysis or economic dispatch is not easy:a large number of existing testbeds are not opensource,while others are difficult to be reused by other researchers due to the particularity of system scale,topology,and *** this paper,we present three open-source testbeds with different scales based on practical combined electric and heat *** satisfy researchers"specific demands on the system topology and data,we also discuss how to modify testbeds based on existing topologies and *** can use the testbeds presented in this paper to test their innovative methods for power flow analysis and economic dispatch,and can also design their own testbeds based on the methodology in this paper,using published topologies and data.

increasing intermittent renewable energy sources(RESs)intensifies the imbalance between demand and generation,entailing the diversification of the deployment of electrical energy storage systems(ESSs).A large-scale biogas plant(LBP)installed with heating devices and biogas energy storage(BES)usually exhibits a storage-like characteristic of accommodating an increasing penetration level of RES in rural areas,which is addressed in this *** utilizing the temperature-sensitive characteristic of anaerobic digestion that enables the LBP to exhibit a storage-like characteristic,this paper proposes a bi-level energy trading model incorporating LBP and demand response aggregator(DRA)*** this model,social welfare is maximized at the upper level while the profit of DRA is maximized at the lower *** with cases only with DRA,the results show that the proposed model with the LBP improves the on-site accommodation capacity of photovoltaic(PV)generation up to 6.3%,18.1%,and 18.9%at 30%,40%,and 50%PV penetration levels,respectively,with a better economic *** nonlinear bi-level problem is finally recast by a single-level mathematical program with equilibrium constraints(MPEC)using Karush-Kuhn-Tucker(KKT)conditions and solved by the Cplex *** effectiveness of the proposed model is validated using a 33-bus test system and a sensitivity analysis is provided for analyzing what parameter influences the accommodation capacity most.

A SECOND-ORDER DYNAMIC SUBGRID-SCALE STRESS MODEL

A second-order dynamic model based on the general relation between the subgrid-scale stress and the velocity gradient tensors was proposed. A priori test of the second-order model was made using moderate resolution direct numerical simulation date at high Reynolds number ( Taylor microscale Reynolds number R-lambda = 102 similar to 216) for homogeneous, isotropic forced flow, decaying flow, and homogeneous rotating flow. Numerical testing shows that the second-order dynamic model significantly improves the correlation coefficient when compared to the first-order dynamic models.
