Uplink Scheduling for Supporting Real Time Voice Traffc in IEEE 802.16 Backhaul Networks

In this paper we propose simple enhancements to the bandwidth （BW） request messages in IEEE 802.16 for supporting real-time packet voice traffic. Three different BW request formats are proposed, each requiring a different amount of latency information about the buffered packets at the SS. On this basis, packet scheduling schemes are proposed for the BS to make resource allocations for real-time traffic. Our results show that the proposed BW request and scheduling schemes achieve significantly lower packet loss probability than the standard IEEE 802.16 BW request with round robin scheduling. The results further show that there is an optimum point about how much delay information the SS should report to the BS in order to best utilize the uplink resources while the SS provides satisfactory real-time performance for the voice traffic.

Laboratory characterization of temperature induced reflection cracks

A hot-mix asphalt(HMA) overlay is one of the primary strategy for rehabilitating existing HMA pavements and Portland cement concrete(PCC) pavements. The current design program, FAARFIELD, does not address reflective cracking for asphalt-overlaid concrete pavements due to its mechanism complexity. The bending, shearing, and thermal are three crucial factors to successfully model reflective cracking. To implement this failure mode in flexible over rigid design procedure, a series of full-scale test pavements were constructed, instrumented, and tested in the condition of extreme cooling temperature at the FAA National Airport Pavement Test Facility. The purpose was to assess cooling effects on the propagation of reflection cracks for airport AC over PCC pavements. In preparation for reflective cracking phase VI test, the FAA is conducting laboratory experiment on field extracted hot mix asphalt(HMA) cores. In order to test these field HMA cores, the Texas Overlay Tester(OT) was customized to get data similar to the full-scale tests. This paper discusses finite element analysis on the full-scale testing, development of the customized Texas OT, and a laboratory testing suite using the customized Texas OT, including preliminary tests, instrumentation, experiment design, and test results. Data obtained from this research effort will be used to develop a rational testing procedure to simulate extreme cooling cycles through full-scale testing.

Techno-economic assessment of pulverized coal boilers and IGCC power plants with CO_(2) capture

The current studies on power plant technologies suggest that Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle(IGCC)systems are an effective and economic CO_(2) capture technology *** addition,the system in conventional configuration has the advantage of being more“CO_(2) capture ready”than other *** coal boilers(PC)have,however,proven high technical performance attributes and are economically often most practical *** highlight the pros and cons of both technologies in connection with an integrated CO_(2) capture,a comparative analysis of ultrasupercritical PC and IGCC is carried out in this *** technical design,the mass and energy balance and the system optimizations are implemented by using the ECLIPSE chemical plant simulation software *** upon these technologies,the CO_(2) capture facilities are incorporated within the *** most appropriate CO_(2) capture systems for the PC system selected for this work are the oxy-fuel system and the postcombustion scheme using Monoethanolamine solvent scrubber column(MEA).The IGCC systems are designed in two configurations:Water gas shift reactor and Selexol-based *** options generate CO_(2)-rich and hydrogen rich-gas *** the comparative analysis of the technical performance attributes of the above cycles,the economic assessment is carried out using the economic toolbox of ECLIPSE is seamlessly connected to the results of the mass and energy balance as well as the utility *** total cost assessment is implemented according to the stepcount exponential costing method using the dominant factors and/or a combination of ***,based on a set of assumptions,the net present value estimation is implemented to calculate the breakeven electricity selling prices and the CO_(2) avoidance cost.
