After the extinction of Archaeocyatha(sponges),microbial bioherms were well developed in the lower Cambrian of the Yangtze cratonic basin,especially in the Qingxudong Formation(Cambrian(Stage 4))of the Huayuan area,northwestern Hunan province,southern ***,four sections from this area were chosen for investigating and analyzing their microfacies and depositional *** microfacies types were recognized through petrographic analysis of textural attributes and calcimicrobes(including Epiphyton,Renalcis,Girvanella and Kenella),respectively as:laminated calcareous mudstone(MF1),algal wackestone(MF2),intraclastic grainstone(MF3),algal intrasparrudite(MF4),oolitic algal intrasparrudite(MF5),sparry oolitic grainstone(MF6),Epiphyton framestone(MF7),Renalcis bafflestone(MF8),Kenella bafflestone(MF9),Girvanella boundstone(MF10),thrombolitic boundstone(MF11),and dolomite(MF12).These microfacies represent four major depositional environments:carbonate ramp,carbonate platform,slope and tidal *** played an important role in the transition from carbonate ramp to platform,while the evolution from ramp to tidal flat must be ascribed to sea-level fall during the Cambrian Age 4.

The Lianhuashan metallogenic belt in Eastern Guangdong province(South China)is the most important Sn polymetallic district in the region,hosting many medium-sized deposits such as the Tashan,Xianshuili,and ***,the metallogenic mechanism of these deposits remains hotly *** this paper,two types of cassiterites(Cst1 and Cst2)have been identified in the Xianshuili and Jiangxikeng Sn deposits,which are hosted in the biotite-mylonite and garnetcordierite-muscovite blastomylonite,*** euhedral Cst1(0.50–1.8 mm)coexists with biotite,feldspar,and *** is platy and zoned with a mosaic *** subhedral to anhedral Cst2(0.02–0.35 mm)coexists with metamorphic minerals such as garnet and cordierite,and it is characterized by well-developed porosity and has no ***-situ U-Pb dating of the Cst1 and Cst2 yielded ages of 149.5±1.0 Ma(MSWD=1.6,n=45)and 125.1±2.3 Ma(MSWD=4.5,n=43),***1 is most likely to be related to the intermediate-felsic magmatism that formed Gaojiping Group,whereas Cst2 has relatively high Ta,Nb,Fe,and W contents with obvious rare earth tetragroup effect,and may have formed by the late Early Cretaceous dynamic *** presented here,when combined with regional geology and geochemistry,led us to suggest that the Mesozoic intermediate-felsic volcanic rocks in the LMB are significantly enriched in Sn and F,with high Sn-polymetallic mineralization potential which likely have contributed to the volcanic-related *** the late Early Cretaceous period,due to the NW-dipping subduction of the paleo-Pacific plate,the intermediate-felsic volcanic rocks underwent dynamic metamorphism that led to Sn mobilization,migration,and precipitation in the regional ductile shear zones,and eventually generating Sn *** propose that areas beneath Xianshuili and Jiangxikeng have great potential for discovery of new Sn *** findings likely offer practical importance to regional geological

Geological explorations have revealed plentiful Neogene formation waters in anticlines in the central Qaidam Basin(QB).However,the hydrochemistry and origin of these waters are *** this study,the hydrochemistry and DO-S-Sr isotopes of these formation waters were determined to study their origin and *** formation waters are enriched in Na-Ca-Cl,and depleted in Mg-K-SO4-HCO3ions with elevated Li-B-Br-Sr *** D-O isotopes prove that the formation waters originated from weak-evaporated meteoric waters,and experienced water-rock *** comparisons and Caexcess-Nadeficitdiagrams suggest that solute sources of these waters include evaporite dissolution,waterrock interaction,and minor residual lake *** sulfate reduction and water-rock interactions are supported by the high S-Sr *** enriched Li-B-Br-Sr concentrations of these waters are in accord with the high geochemical background values of the *** the genesis of the formation waters,it can be concluded that meteoric waters from the southern Kunlun Mountains were discharged into the basin,weakly evaporated,and then infiltrated into the Neogene strata through faults leaching the soluble ions and mixing with residual lake brines,and all experienced water-rock interactions and a sulphate reduction process.

Downward transport of stratospheric air into the troposphere(identified as stratospheric intrusions)could potentially modify the radiation budget and chemical of the Earth's surface *** the highest and largest plateau on earth,the Tibetan Plateau including the Himalayas couples to global climate,and has attracted widespread attention due to rapid warming and cryospheric *** studies recognized strong stratospheric intrusions in the Himalayas but are poorly understood due to limited direct evidences and the complexity of the meteorological dynamics of the third ***^(35)S is a radioactive isotope predominately produced in the lower stratosphere and has been demonstrated as a sensitive chemical tracer to detect stratospherically sourced air mass in the planetary boundary ***,we report 6-month(April–September 2018)observation of^(35)S in atmospheric sulfate aerosols(^(35)SO_(4)^(2-))collected from a remote site in the Himalayas to reveal the stratospheric intrusion phenomenon as well as its potential impacts in this *** the sampling campaign,the^(35)SO_(4)^(2-)concentrations show an average of 1,070±980 atoms/m^(3).In springtime,the average is 1,620±730 atoms/m^(3),significantly higher than the global existing data measured so *** significant enrichments of^(35)SO_(4)^(2-)measured in this study verified the hypothesis that the Himalayas is a global hot spot of stratospheric intrusions,especially during the springtime as a consequence of its unique geology and atmospheric *** combined with the ancillary evidences,e.g.,oxygen-17 anomaly in sulfate and modeling results,we found that the stratospheric intrusions have a profound impact on the surface ozone concentrations over the study region,and potentially have the ability to constrain how the mechanisms of sulfate oxidation are affected by a change in plateau atmospheric properties and *** study provides new observational constraints on stra

Origin of the hydrate bound gases in the Juhugeng Sag, Muli Basin, Tibetan Plateau

The Juhugeng Sag,located in northwest of the Muli Basin,Tibetan Plateau,has been investigated for coal and petroleum resources during the past several *** have been successful recoveries of gas hydrates during recent years from the Middle Jurassic Yaojie Formation that offer insight into the origin of the hydrocarbon gases from the complex sag *** study examines the organic geochemical and stable carbon isotopic characteristics of shale and coal samples from the Middle Jurassic Yaojie Formation of the Juhugeng Sag,as well as compares with carbon isotopes,gas amounts and components of hydrate-bound gas.A total of 19 samples from surface mining,including 12 samples of black shale and 7 samples of coal,were analysed using a micro-photometer,a gas chromatograph,Rock–Eval and isotope *** the shale samples contained 100%type I kerogen,and the random vitrinite reflectance values vary from 0.65%to 1.32%and achieve thermal pyrolysis *** values of methane(δ13C ranging from−52.6‰to−39.5‰andδD ranging from−285‰to−227‰)in the hydrate bound gases suggest that the methane originates mainly from thermogenic *** is proposed that ethane from the gas hydrate is thermogenic-produced,and this conjecture is supported by the fact that most of the gas hydrate also contains more than 30%of thermogenic C2+hydrocarbons and is similar to structure II *** isotope data from the gas hydrates show a positive carbon isotope series(δ13C1<δ13C2<δ13C3),with ethaneδ13C values being lighter than−28.5‰,as high consistency with source rocks from the Jurassic period indicate thermal oil-prone gas.A model of the accumulation of gas hydrate is ***,the gaseous sources of gas hydrates may be a subject for more research.

Gas-in-place and its influence factors of the upper Paleozoic coal-bearing shale in the Qinshui Basin, China

coal-bearing shale shows great potential for unconventional gas resources in China, while its exploration and development have been challenging for a long time. Gas-in-place (GIP) is critical to shale gas evaluation, but the major factors controlling the GIP content of coal-bearing shale remain unclear. To address this issue, the coal-bearing shales of the upper Carboniferous-lower Permian Taiyuan and Shanxi formations in the Zuoquan Block, Qinshui Basin, China, were collected for GIP measurements and an integrated investigation, including organic geochemistry, inorganic mineral compositions, and pore characterizations, was carried out. Our results show that the GIP content of the studied shales displays relatively low values and wide variations, which range from 0.30 to 2.28 m^(3)/t. The GIP is dominated by desorbed gas and residual gas. Total organic carbon (TOC) contents of the studied shales vary from 0.92% to 16.91%, and inorganic minerals are dominated by clays that mainly consist of illite/smectite mixed layer (I/S) and kaolinite. Inorganic pores have been widely observed in the studied shales, while the organic matter-hosted pores are rarely found using SEM observations. Total porosity of the studied shales is primarily contributed by clay minerals, followed by organic matter and quartz. Weak positive relationships between the GIP content and pore structure parameters imply that the adsorption of methane to nanopores is relatively weak, which may be attributed to the hydrophilicity of clay-hosted pores. Moreover, hydrophobic organic pores are not well developed. Positive correlations between the GIP contents and contents of TOC, clays, and the I/S indicate that major factors influencing the GIP contents of the coal-bearing shales are clays (especially I/S) and TOC content. Source Analysis of Lithium Deposit in Dong-Xi-Taijinaier Salt Lake of Qaidam Basin,Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

The Dong-Xi-Taijinaier Salt Lake(DXTSL) of Qaidam Basin is known as one of rich lithium reserves in ***,the source of lithium deposits in this region remains *** hydrochemistry and lithium isotopes(δ7Li) of water and solid samples along the Nalenggele River catchment were studied in combination with rock leaching *** results showed the hot springs in the upstream contained high content of lithium and ratio of Li × 1 000/total dissolved solids(1.5–3.5),but the lower δ7Li values(4.33‰–11.59‰),meaning that it is one important lithium *** leaching experiments by the rich-lithium volcanic rocks(average content of 474.7 mg/kg) showed that under temperature of 20–80 ℃ and long time duration(24–96 h),the concentration of lithium released by leaching of the sampled volcanic rocks increased from 0.58 to 1.49 mg/L,with the leaching rate decreasing from 0.024 to 0.015 mg/(L·h) and the corresponding lithium release rate increasing from 29% to 74%.Calculation based on water-salt balance showed that the total amount of lithium contribution from hydrothermal fluids and volcanic rock weathering is about 4.99 and 0.29 Mt since 13.1 ka,***,hot springs and leaching of volcanic rocks are main contributors to lithium deposit in DXTSL.

Connections between Evaporite Deposition and Glacial Periods since the Middle Pleistocene in Salt Lakes in the Western Qaidam Basin, China

The Quaternary was the main evaporite deposition period in the Qaidam Basin(QB), but the correlation between the evaporite deposition period and the glacial period is still unclear. In this study, the research objects are primarily evaporite-bearing strata in a 461.58 m-long drill core in the QB. X-ray powder diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) were applied to study the evaporite minerals, U-Th dating being applied to construct the ~(230)Th geochronological framework. Evaporite deposition from Marine Isotope Stage(MIS) 15 to MIS 4 in the borehole was reconstructed via mineralogical and geochronological data. The evaporite minerals are mainly halite(NaCl), mirabilite(Na_(2)SO_(4)·10H_(2)O), thenardite(Na_(2)SO_(4)) and gypsum(CaSO_(4)·2H_(2)O). A total of 9 effective ~(230)Th data points, ranging from 492.5 ± 43.0 ka to 62.0 ± 11.9 ka, were obtained. The depositional age of the earliest halite layer in the borehole is 592.5–563.0 ka. There were mirabilite deposits in the QB during the cold glacial environment of MIS 6. During MIS 4, the study area desiccated, with mirabilite and halite being deposited. This study suggests that mirabilite is an indicator mineral for the glacial environment in the QB, while halite deposition does not correspond well to glaciation.

The Daning-Jixian block,the eastern edge of the Ordos Basin,is one of the most potential areas for CO_(2)geological storage,enhanced coalbed methane recovery(ECBM)exploration and production in China in recent *** ionic composition and total dissolved solids(TDS)of the produced water,coal organic matter maturity,molecular composition and carbon isotope characteristics of the produced gas were utilized to analyze the hydrogeological condition,CBM generation and migration characteristics in this *** CBM enrichment patterns and the geological impacts on gas well production characteristics were *** optimal area for CBM development and CO_(2)geological storage in the study area were also *** by the Xueguan reverse fault zone,the hydraulic unit in this area can be divided into two parts(i.e.,the recharge-runoff zone in the east and the weak runoff-stagnation zone in the west).The thermogenic gas is dominating CBM genesis in this *** biogenic gas replenishment is only distributed in the eastern margin area,where theδ13C1 value is less than the thermal simulation results as an influence of hydrodynamic ***,two models of CBM formation and accumulation were proposed,1)thermogenic CBM migrated by hydrodynamic and resorbed for preservation at impermeable fault boundaries;2)thermogenic CBM trapped by fault and accumulated by hydrodynamic in slope *** gas production performance,generally increased from east to west,is mainly dominated by hydrogeological ***,the west side of the fault zone is the enrichment and high-yield area for ECBM development and CO_(2)geological storage in the study area.
