This paper examines the significance of spatial externalities for youths’ school-to-training transitions in Germany. For this purpose, it is necessary to address the methodological question of how an individual’s spatial context has to be operationalized with respect to both its extent and the problem of spatial autocorrelation. Our analyses show that the “zone of influence” comprises of the whole of Germany, not only close-by districts, and that these effects differ between structurally weak and strong regions. Consequently, assuming that only close proximity affects individual outcomes may disregard relevant contextual influences, and for spatial models that require an a priori definition of the weights for spatial units, it may be erroneous to make a decision based on this assumption. Concerning spatial autocorrelation, we found that neglecting local spatial autocorrelation at the context level causes considerable bias to the estimates, especially for districts that are close to the home district.

Purpose: To present a method for systematically mapping diversity of publication patterns at the author level in the social sciences and humanities in terms of publication type, publication language and ***/methodology/approach: In a follow-up to the hard partitioning clustering by Verleysen and Weeren in 2016, we now propose the complementary use of fuzzy cluster analysis, making use of a membership coefficient to study gradual differences between publication styles among authors within a scholarly discipline. The analysis of the probability density function of the membership coefficient allows to assess the distribution of publication styles within and between ***: As an illustration we analyze 1,828 productive authors affiliated in Flanders, Belgium. Whereas a hard partitioning previously identified two broad publication styles, an international one vs. a domestic one, fuzzy analysis now shows gradual differences among authors. Internal diversity also varies across disciplines and can be explained by researchers’ specialization and dissemination *** limitations: The dataset used is limited to one country for the years 2000–2011; a cognitive classification of authors may yield a different result from the affiliation-based classification used *** implications: Our method is applicable to other bibliometric and research evaluation contexts, especially for the social sciences and humanities in non-Anglophone ***/value: The method proposed is a novel application of cluster analysis to the field of bibliometrics. Applied to publication patterns at the author level in the social sciences and humanities, for the first time it systematically documents intra-disciplinary diversity.

On October 9, a delegation of Chinese academics led by Professor Jin Bei, Director of the institute of Industrial Economics at the Chinese Academy of social sciences, traveled to Sweden as the guests of Stockholm University for one week, a trip that happened to coincide with the awarding of the Nobel prize in economics. On the afternoons of October 10th and October 12th, the delegation had the privilege to have two conversations with Per Krusell, Chairman of the Nobel Committee and a renowned professor at the institute for International Economic Studies （lIES） at Stockholm University. Dr. Krusell, originally from Sweden, has taught at several of the world＇s leading universities, including Princeton University.

Taosi is an archaeological site in Xiangfen county, Shanxi province. It is considered as a capital city site with the rudiment of an early country in Longshan Times. In this work, the black pottery coating was found on the surface of black and grey pottery of Longshan times and confirmed by scientific studies for the first time. It filled in the blank of pottery coating study in this time period at the Yellow River Valley, as well as supplied a new study method of "black skin pottery" besides the carburization craft. In addition, according to the archaeological materials, we inferred that the wares with this pottery coating might be only used by the nobility at that time.

In trying to explain why Hong Kong of China ranks highest in life expectancy in the world,we review what various experts are hypothesizing,and how data science methods may be used to provide more evidence-based *** more data become available,we find some data analysis studies were too simplistic,while others too overwhelming in answering this challenging *** find the approach that analyzes life expectancy related data(mortality causes and rate for different cohorts)inspiring,and use this approach to study a carefully selected set of targets for *** discussing the factors that matter,we argue that it is more reasonable to try to identify a set of factors that together explain the phenomenon.

This paper uses the Global Trade Analysis Project(version 7)database to calculate embodied CO2emissions in bilateral trade between China and other countries(regions)based on input-output *** sources and flows of embodied CO2emissions in import and export trade of China are *** show that the flows of embodied CO2emissions in export trade are highly *** main flows to the United States(US)and Japan account for 1/4 and 1/7 of the total CO2emissions in export trade,*** flows of total exports and small differences in export structure are the main reasons for the highly concentrated export *** sources of embodied CO2emissions in import trade have relatively low *** Province of China,Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China,US,Russia,Republic of Korea,and Japan account for around 7.72%–12.67%of the total embodied CO2emissions in import *** relative dispersion of import sources,the impact of the import structure,and the level of production technology in importing countries caused low concentration of CO2emissions in import ***,the embodied CO2emissions in the export trade of China are higher than those in import *** a result,production-based CO2emissions are higher than consumption-based *** difference of 8.96×108t of CO2,which comes mainly from the US,Japan,Germany,and the United Kingdom,accounts for 58.70%of the total *** suggestions,such as improving energy efficiency,alerting high carbon-intensive industries transfer,expanding the market for sharing risks,and prompting the accounting system of consumption-based CO2emissions,are proposed based on the results.
