main controlling factor and mechanism of gas-in-place content of the Lower Cambrian shale from different sedimentary facies in the western Hubei area, South China

The Lower Cambrian shale gas in the western Hubei area,South China has a great resource prospect,but the gas-in-place(GIP)content in different sedimentary facies varies widely,and the relevant mechanism has been not well *** the present study,two sets of the Lower Cambrian shale samples from the Wells YD4 and YD5 in the western Hubei area,representing the deep-water shelf facies and shallowwater platform facies,respectively,were investigated on the differences of pore types,pore structure and methane adsorption capacity between them,and the main controlling factor and mechanism of their methane adsorption capacities and GIP contents were *** results show that the organic matter(Om)pores in the YD4 shale samples are dominant,while the inorganic mineral(Im)pores in the YD5 shale samples are primary,with underdeveloped Om *** pore specific surface area(SSA)and pore volume(PV)of the YD4 shale samples are mainly from micropores and mesopores,respectively,while those of the YD5 shale samples are mainly from micropores and macropores,*** methane adsorption capacity of the YD4 shale samples is significantly higher than that of the YD5 shale samples,with a maximum absolute adsorption capacity of 3.13 cm^(3)/g and 1.31 cm^(3)/g in average,*** with the shallow-water platform shale,the deep-water shelf shale has a higher TOC content,a better kerogen type and more developed Om pores,which is the main mechanism for its higher adsorption *** GIP content models based on two samples with a similar TOC content selected respectively from the Wells YD4 and YD5 further indicate that the GIP content of the deep-water shelf shale is mainly 34 m^(3)/t within a depth range of 1000—4000 m,with shale gas exploration and development potential,while the shallow-water platform shale has normally a GIP content ofm^(3)/t,with little shale gas *** the geological and geochemical conditions of shale gas formation a

Genesis of ultra-deep dolostone and controlling factors of largescale reservoir:A case study of the Sinian Dengying Formation and the Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation in the Sichuan Basin

Evolution model and failure mechanisms of rainfall-induced cracked red clay slopes:insights from Xinshao County,China

Red clay landslides are widely distributed worldwide,resulting in severe loss of life and *** rainfall-induced red clay slopes have received extensive attention,the role of cracks in the evolutionary process of red clay slopes and their connection to failure mechanisms is still poorly understood.A comprehensive approach integrating field investigation,laboratory tests,and numerical simulations was conducted to study the 168 red clay landslides in Xinshao County,*** results show that red clay is prone to forming cracks at high moisture content due to its low swelling and high shrinkage *** failure mode of red clay slopes can be summarized in three stages:crack generation,slope excavation,and slope ***,the retrospective analysis and numerical simulations of the typical landslide in Guanchong indicated that intense rainfall primarily impacts the shallow layer of soil within approximately 0.5 m on the intact ***,cracks change the pattern of rainfall infiltration in the *** infiltrates rapidly through the preferential channels induced by the cracks rather than uniformly and slowly from the slope *** results in a significant increase in both the depth of infiltration and the saturated zone area of the cracked slope,reaching 3.8 m and 36.2 m^(2),***,the factor of safety of the slope decreases by 13.4%compared to the intact slope,ultimately triggering *** study can provide valuable insights into understanding the failure mechanisms of red clay slopes in China and other regions with similar geological settings.

Quaternary Activity Characteristics and Regional Tectonic Significance of the Jiulong Fault in Jiujiang,Jiangxi Province,China

Obtaining geological and landform dislocation features,as well as the measured stratigraphic activity age,provides direct evidence to evaluate fault activity,which is more difficult to do in areas with low tectonic activity,such as eastern and central China.A detailed investigation of the fault activity,trenching,drilling joint geological profile,geological survey,and chronological analysis were used to obtain the spatial geometry,fault kinematics,and activity chronology of the Jiulong *** conclusions are as follows:(1)The Jiulong fault was a fracture zone composed of four branch faults,with a width of around 30–40 m and good extendibility,while the maximum surface rupture length was 373 m.(2)The Jiulong fault has many strata dislocations,and the dislocation distance decreased from bottom to top,demonstrating synsedimentary structure characteristics,with a maximum stratigraphic dislocation distance of 18.2 m.(3)Preliminary analysis suggested the Jiulong fault as a secondary fracture of the Xiangfan-Guangji fault zone and provided evidence of the southeastward extension of the Xiangfan-Guangji fault.A preliminary hypothesis purported the Xiangfan-Guangji fault as the seismogenic fault of the ms 5.0 magnitude earthquake in 1911.(4)According to OSL and ESR dating analyses,the upper breakpoint of the Jiulong fault cuts into the Late Pleistocene Xingang Formation(Qp3x)strata,and the latest active age of the Jiulong fault was 57.6 *** chronology analysis confirmed an active fault from the Late Pleistocene and identified a weak tectonic in Jiujiang Province,which represents the largest active fault outcrop uncovered in the area so *** study provides evidence and research materials for the evaluation of fault activity and seismic stability in this region.

Partitioning Anatolian Kinematics into Tectonic Escape and Slab Rollback Dominated Domains

Anatolia is the global archetype of tectonic escape,as witnessed by the devastating 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquake sequence,and the 2020 Samos Earthquake,which show different kinematics related to the framework of the escape *** Positioning System(GPS)motions of the wedge-shaped plate differ regionally from northwestwards to southwestwards(from east to west).Anatolia was extruded westward from the Arabian-Eurasian collision along the North and East Anatolian fault systems,rotating counterclockwise into the oceanic free-faces of the mediterranean and Aegean,with dramatic extension of western Anatolia in traditional ***,which is the dominant mechanism for this change in kinematics,extrusion related to the Arabia/Eurasia collision or rollback of the African slab beneath western Anatolia is still *** assess the dominant driving mechanisms across Anatolia,we analyze recent GPS velocity datasets,and decomposed them into N-S and E-W components,revealing that westward motion is essentially constant across the whole plate and consistent with the slip rates of the North and East Anatolia fault zones,while southward components increase dramatically in the transition area between central and western Anatolia,where a slab tear is *** phenomenon is related to different tectonic driving *** ArabiaEurasia collision drives the Anatolian Plate uniformly westwards while western Anatolia is progressively more affected by the southward retreating African subducting slab west of the Aegean/Cypriot slab tear,which significantly increases the southward component of the velocity field and causes the apparent curve of the whole modern velocity *** 2020 and 2023 earthquake focal mechanisms also confirm that the northward colliding Arabian Plate forced Anatolia to the west,and the retreating African slab is pulling the upper plate of western Anatolian apart in *** propose that the Anatolian Plate is moving westwards as

Effects of the Tensile and Shear Properties of Bolts on the Shear Properties of Bolted Rock Joints

The mechanical properties of bolts are important factors affecting the shear behavior of bolted joints. In this study, tensile and pure shear tests were conducted on five kinds of bolts made from different materials to measure their tensile and shear parameters. Direct shear tests were conducted to analyze the effects of tensile and shear strength parameters on the shear behavior of bolted joints. The test results showed that the mechanical properties of bolts made from different materials were clearly different and that these differences mainly affected the plastic deformation stage of the bolted joints. The larger the bolt elongation was, the larger the joint shear displacement at bolt failure. The tensile and shear strengths of the bolts were positively correlated with the shear strength of the bolted joints. According to the standard regression analysis, the bolt shear strength had a greater influence than the bolt tensile strength on the bolt contributions when the bolts were perpendicular to the joint surface. Based on the empirical equation for the bolt contribution proposed by Spang, the maximum shear loads in the pure shear test were introduced, and a new equation was established to predict the contributions of bolts. The prediction results obtained using the modified equation were in good agreement with the experimental results.

Long-term in-situ monitoring of anchoring system and preliminary analysis of monitoring data

The geological environment in which the reservoir slope is situated is intricate， influenced by factors such as precipitation and fluctuations in reservoir water levels. Furthermore， the anchoring structure embedded within the rock mass of the slope undergoes corrosion and deterioration due to these factors， resulting in a highly complex interaction process between the slope rock mass and the anchoring structure. The long-term safety of rock-anchored structure systems is closely tied to the construction and safe operation of reservoirs， as both internal and external factors play a role in ensuring their stability. The present study aims to investigate this intricate issue by designing and establishing an on-site comprehensive multi-field information monitoring platform. The multi-site information monitoring platform comprises three components， namely the landslide monitoring system， anchor structure monitoring system， and data management system. The landslide monitoring system encompasses the surveillance of surface deformation， subsurface deformation， and environmental factors. The monitoring system for anchor structures includes the monitoring of prestress， anchor cable strain， and corrosion status of steel bars. The establishment of a preliminary system for data transmission and management has been accomplished. The current monitoring results indicate that the health condition of the tested anchor cables is satisfactory， and the strain and corrosion status are influenced by the design of the anchor cable structure. The platform is currently undergoing enhancements with the incorporation of cutting-edge anchoring structure design and monitoring equipment.

A novel tunnel seismic prediction method based on threshold trigger

The tunnel seismic prediction method can provide information on the geological anomalous body in front of the tunnel face in a long distance (120 m)， which has become a necessary work in tunnel construction. The traditional tunnel seismic prediction methods suffer from two main issues: low data acquisition efficiency and the occurrence of signal delay traces during data gathering. These issues， in turn， impact the accuracy of calculating the velocity of the surrounding rock. To address these shortcomings， this paper proposes a new method called the threshold-triggered tunnel seismic prediction method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through the analysis of measured tunnel seismic data. Firstly， when compared with the traditional short-circuit trigger method， the threshold trigger method demonstrates a significant improvement in data acquisition efficiency. Secondly， the threshold triggering mode effectively eliminates the problem of signal delay and jump that is present in the short-circuit trigger mode， thus ensuring the accuracy of the surrounding rock velocity calculation. These advantages clearly demonstrate the potential engineering application value of the threshold-triggered method.

Inversion of Seabed Geotechnical Properties in the Arctic Chukchi Deep Sea Basin Based on Time Domain Adaptive Search matching Algorithm

The chirp sub-bottom profiler,for its high resolution,easy accessibility and cost-effectiveness,has been widely used in acoustic *** this paper,the acoustic impedance and grain size compositions were obtained based on the chirp sub-bottom profiler data collected in the Chukchi Plateau area during the 11th Arctic Expedition of *** time-domain adaptive search matching algorithm was used and validated on our established theoretical *** misfit between the inversion result and the theoretical model is less than 0.067%.The grain size was calculated according to the empirical relationship between the acoustic impedance and the grain size of the *** average acoustic impedance of sub-seafloor strata is 2.5026×10^(6) kg(s m^(2))^(-1)and the average grain size(θvalue)of the seafloor surface sediment is 7.1498,indicating the predominant occurrence of very fine silt sediment in the study *** of the inversion results and the laboratory measurements of nearby borehole samples shows that they are in general agreement.
