Analysis of Pathway Activity in Primary Tumors and NCI60 Cell Lines Using gene Expression Profiling Data

To determine cancer pathway activities in nine types of primary tumors and NCI60 cell lines, we applied an in silico approach by examining gene signatures reflective of consequent pathway activation using gene expression data. Supervised learning approaches predicted that the Ras pathway is active in -70% of lung adenocarcinomas but inactive in most squamous cell carcinomas, pulmonary carcinoids, and small cell lung carcinomas. In contrast, the TGF-β, TNF-α, Src, Myc, E2F3, and β-catenin pathways are inactive in lung adenocarcinomas. We predicted an active Ras, Myc, Src, and/or E2F3 pathway in significant percentages of breast cancer, colorectal carcinoma, and gliomas. Our results also suggest that Ras may be the most prevailing oncogenic pathway. Additionally, many NCI60 cell lines exhibited a gene signature indicative of an active Ras, Myc, and/or Src, but not E2F3, β-catenin, TNF-α, or TGF-β pathway. To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive survey of cancer pathway activities in nine major tumor types and the most widely used NCI60 cell lines. The ＂gene expression pathway signatures＂ we have defined could facilitate the understanding of molecular mechanisms in cancer development and provide guidance to the selection of appropriate cell lines for cancer research and pharmaceutical compound screening.

Pollution has become an unavoidable concern as China’s high-quality development is *** to reduce pollution is an imperative issue for China to *** emissions are closely related to factor inputs,production processes and pollution control *** there other forces to cut emissions besides regulatory control?Taking sulfur dioxide as an example,this paper probes into the potential mechanism through which technical efficiency drives pollution reduction in the context of opening to foreign *** results reveal that the openness to foreign investment remarkably lowers pollution emissions of fi rms,with SOEs,large fi rms and exporters seeing more pronounced pollution reduction eff ect after opening to foreign investment,while fi rms in pollution-intensive industries and less regulated areas are weaker in pollution reduction.A look into fi rm behavior suggests that the openness to foreign investment reduces pollutant emissions by improving technical efficiency rather than by raising investment in pollution *** pollution reduction eff ect resulting from the openness is refl ected in the improvement of intra-fi rm emission reduction capacity instead of inter-fi rm resource reallocation eff ect,according to an analysis at the aggregate *** paper concludes that technical efficiency gains are an important tool to advance pollution reduction,and that China must be more flexible in leveraging the pollution reduction effect of other policies regarding technical effi ciency to drive its high-quality development that is green.

A semiconductor/dielectric interface is one of the dominant factors in device characteristics,and a variety of oxides with high dielectric constants and low interface trap densities have been used in carbon nanotube *** the crystal structure of nanotubes with no dangling bonds,there remains room to investigate unconventional dielectric ***,we fabricate carbon nanotube transistors with boron nitride nanotubes as interfacial layers between channels and gate dielectrics,where a single semiconducting nanotube is used to focus on switching behaviors at the subthreshold *** subthreshold swing of 68 mV·dec^(−1)is obtained despite a 100-nm-thick Sio_(2)dielectric,corresponding to the effective interface trap density of 5.2×10^(11)cm^(−2)·eV^(−1),one order of magnitude lower than those of carbon nanotube devices without boron nitride *** interfacial layers also result in the mild suppression of threshold voltage variation and *** achieve Ohmic contacts through the selective etching of boron nitride nanotubes with XeF2 gas,overcoming the trade-off imposed by wrapping the inner *** impacts of fluorinating carbon nanotubes on device performances are also confirmed as long as the etching is applied exclusively at source/drain *** results represent an important step toward nanoelectronics that exploit the advantage of one-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures.

This study examines the impact of employee stock ownership plans(ESOPs)on stock-price informativeness in Chinese stock *** findings indicate that firms implementing ESOPs experienced an average 11.89 percent increase in stock-price *** plans improved stock-price informativeness through increased external attention and *** event study shows that ESOPs gave rise to an announcement effect,driven by anticipated performance improvements and the novelty associated with ESOPs.A mechanism analysis demonstrates that the implementation of ESOPs attracted market attention,and the increased market supervision resulting from this mitigated the moral hazards of management associated with *** with more positive signals exerted a greater ***,ESOPs that prioritized management incentives gained more recognition in the *** the incentive effects of ESOPs were weaker than those of equity incentive plans and the ESOPs lost novelty over time,the annual announcement effect diminished *** findings underscore the necessity of strengthening ESOP incentives for continued optimization of priceefficiency.

The promotion of technological innovation in firms requires both the supply-push and the *** accurately identify,assess,and further enhance the incentive effects of the policies of government procurement for innovation in China,this paper uses the text analysis method to identify government procurement for innovation from more than 640,000 pieces of government procurement contracts and conducts an empirical analysis based on the data of China's A-share listed firms from 2015 to *** study finds that government procurement for innovation significantly promotes corporate innovation by increasing the expected market returns,reducing R&D uncertainty,and easing financing ***,local government procurement for innovation,central government procurement for innovation,and procurement for innovation by universities and research institutes bring more significant innovation incentives for firms;and government procurement for innovation generates stronger innovation incentives for firms in strategic and emerging industries,private firms,and small-and medium-sized *** analysis reveals that demandside innovation procurement and supply-side innovation subsidies generally have mutually reinforcing synergies on corporate *** policy synergies vary depending on the levels of corporate innovation and the orders of policy *** terms of the levels of corporate innovation,the two-sided policies has mutually complementary effects on innovation-leading firms and mutually exclusive effects on innovation-lagging *** the perspective of the orders of policy implementation,the strategy of supply-side subsidies first,and demand-side procurement second is more effective in promoting corporate innovation than the strategies of demand-side procurement first and supply-side subsidies second,and supply-side subsidies and demand-side procurement *** study helps deepen the understanding of demand-side innovation sup

Vertical handoff is one significant challenge for mobility management in heterogeneous wireless networks. Compared with horizontal handoff, vertical handoff involves different wireless network technologies varying widely in terms of bandwidth, delay, coverage area, power consumption, etc. In this paper, we analyze the signal strength model of mobile node and present a new vertical handoff decision algorithm. This algorithm can adapt to the change of mobile node＇s velocity and improve the handoff efficiency significantly. We analyze the algorithm＇s performance and the effect of different parameters on handoff triggering. In addition, we propose three performance evaluation models and verify the algorithm＇s feasibility and effectiveness in simulations.
