Molecular insights of exercise therapy in disease prevention and treatment

Despite substantial evidence emphasizing the pleiotropic benefits of exercise for the prevention and treatment of various diseases,the underlying biological mechanisms have not been fully *** exercise benefits have been attributed to signaling molecules that are released in response to exercise by different tissues such as skeletal muscle,cardiac muscle,adipose,and liver *** signaling molecules,which are collectively termed exerkines,form a heterogenous group of bioactive substances,mediating inter-organ crosstalk as well as structural and functional tissue *** scientific endeavors have focused on identifying and characterizing new biological mediators with such ***,some investigations have focused on the molecular targets of exerkines and the cellular signaling cascades that trigger adaption processes.A detailed understanding of the tissue-specific downstream effects of exerkines is crucial to harness the health-related benefits mediated by exercise and improve targeted exercise programs in health and ***,we review the current in vivo evidence on exerkine-induced signal transduction across multiple target tissues and highlight the preventive and therapeutic value of exerkine signaling in various *** emphasizing different aspects of exerkine research,we provide a comprehensive overview of(i)the molecular underpinnings of exerkine secretion,(ii)the receptor-dependent and receptor-independent signaling cascades mediating tissue adaption,and(iii)the clinical implications of these mechanisms in disease prevention and treatment.

We revisit the problem of adsorption of a single^(4)He layer on graphene,focusing on the commensurate(C_(1/3))crystalline phase,specifically on whether it may possess a nonzero superfluid response,and on the existence of superfluid phases,either(metastable)liquid or vacancy-doped *** make use of canonical quantum Monte Carlo simulations at zero and finite temperature,based on a realistic microscopic model of the *** results confirm the absence of any superfluid response in the commensurate crystal,and that no thermodynamically stable uniform phase exists at lower *** evidence of a possibly long-lived,metastable superfluid phase at C_(1/3)coverage is ***,the results of ground-state projection methods and finite-temperature simulations are entirely consistent.

Enhancing hourly heat demand prediction through artificial neural networks:A national level case study

Meeting the goal of zero emissions in the energy sector by 2050 requires accurate prediction of energy consumption,which is increasingly ***,conventional bottom-up model-based heat demand forecasting methods are not suitable for large-scale,high-resolution,and fast forecasting due to their complexity and the difficulty in obtaining model *** paper presents an artificial neural network(ANN)model to predict hourly heat demand on a national level,which replaces the traditional bottom-up model based on extensive building simulations and *** ANN model significantly reduces prediction time and complexity by reducing the number of model input types through feature selection,making the model more realistic by removing non-essential *** improved model can be trained using fewer meteorological data types and insufficient data,while accurately forecasting the hourly heat demand throughout the year within an acceptable error *** model provides a framework to obtain accurate heat demand predictions for large-scale areas,which can be used as a reference for stakeholders,especially policymakers,to make informed decisions.

Deep reinforcement learning(DRL)is a suitable approach to handle uncertainty in managing the energy consumption of buildings with energy storage ***,DRL agents are trained by randomly selecting samples from a data set,which can result in overexposure to some data categories and under/no exposure to other data ***,the trained model may be biased towards some data groups and underperform(provide suboptimal results)for data groups to which it was less *** address this issue,diversity in experience-based DRL agent training framework is proposed in this *** approach ensures the exposure of agents to all types of *** proposed framework is implemented in two *** the first step,raw data are grouped into different clusters using the K-means clustering *** clustered data is then arranged by stacking the data of one cluster on top of *** the second step,a selection algorithm is proposed to select data from each cluster to train the DRL *** frequency of selection from each cluster is in proportion to the number of data points in that cluster and therefore named the proportional selection *** analyze the performance of the proposed approach and compare the results with the conventional random selection method,two indices are proposed in this study:the flatness index and the divergence *** model is trained using different data sets(1-year,3-year,and 5-year)and also with the inclusion of solar *** simulation results confirmed the superior performance of the proposed approach to flatten the building’s load curve by optimally operating the energy storage system.

Ultrathin Zincophilic Interphase Regulated Electric Double Layer Enabling Highly Stable Aqueous Zinc‑Ion Batteries

The practical application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries for large-grid scale systems is still hindered by uncontrolled zinc dendrite and side *** the elec-trical double layer via the electrode/electrolyte interface layer is an effective strategy to improve the stability of Zn ***,we report an ultrathin zincophilic ZnS layer as a model *** a given cycling current,the cell with Zn@ZnS electrode displays a lower potential drop over the Helmholtz layer(stern layer)and a suppressed diffuse layer,indicating the regulated charge distribution and decreased electric double layer repulsion *** zinc adsorption sites are also expected as proved by the enhanced electric double-layer ***,the symmetric cell with the ZnS protection layer can stably cycle for around 3,000 h at 1 mA cm^(-2) with a lower overpotential of 25 *** coupled with an I2/AC cathode,the cell demonstrates a high rate performance of 160 mAh g^(-1) at 0.1 A g^(-1) and long cycling stability of over 10,000 cycles at 10 A g^(-1).The Zn||MnO_(2) also sustains both high capacity and long cycling stability of 130 mAh g^(-1) after 1,200 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1).

Determining minimum sample size for the conditioned Latin hypercube sampling algorithm

In digital soil mapping(DSM),a fundamental assumption is that the spatial variability of the target variable can be explained by the predictors or environmental *** to adequately sample the predictors have been well documented,with the conditioned Latin hypercube sampling(cLHS)algorithm receiving the most attention in the DSM *** advances in sampling design,a critical gap remains in determining the number of samples required for DSM *** propose a simple workflow and function coded in R language to determine the minimum sample size for the cLHS algorithm based on histograms of the predictor variables using the Freedman-Diaconis rule for determining optimal bin *** preprocessing was included to correct for multimodal and non-normally distributed data,as these can affect sample size determination from the *** on a user-selected quantile range(QR)for the sample plan,the densities of the histogram bins at the upper and lower bounds of the QR were used as a scaling factor to determine minimum sample *** technique was applied to a field-scale set of environmental covariates for a well-sampled agricultural study site near guelph,Ontario,Canada,and tested across a range of *** results showed increasing minimum sample size with an increase in the QR *** sample size increased from 44 to 83 when the QR increased from 50% to 95% and then increased exponentially to 194 for the 99%*** technique provides an estimate of minimum sample size that can be used as an input to the cLHS algorithm.

Ferritin and mortality in hemodialysis patients with COVID-19:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To investigate the difference in serum ferritin levels between deceased and surviving regular hemodialysis patients with ***:We conducted a systematic search across four databases following the PRISMA statement *** reporting ferritin levels and mortality of regular hemodialysis patients with COVID-19 were *** the random-effects model,we performed a meta-analysis to determine the mean difference in serum ferritin levels between the studied groups,along with their corresponding 95%confidence *** meta-analysis was carried out using Review Manager 5.4 and Stata ***:A total of 1013 patients from seven studies were included in this *** meta-analysis showed higher mean serum ferritin in the deceased compared to surviving regular hemodialysis patients with COVID-19,with a mean difference of 449.43 ng/mL[95%CI(244.07,654.80),Pgher mean of serum ferritin levels in the deceased compared to surviving regular hemodialysis patients with COVID-19.

Climate refugia along Lake Superior’s shores:disjunct arctic-alpine plants rely on cool shoreline temperatures but are restricted to highly exposed habitat under climate warming

Climate refugia can serve as a remnant habitat or stepping stones for species dispersal under climate *** largest freshwater lake by surface area,Lake Superior,USA and Canada,serves as a model system for understanding cooling-mediated local refugia,as its cool water temperatures and wave action have maintained shoreline habitats suitable for southern disjunct populations of arctic-alpine plants since ***,we seek to explain spatial patterns and environmental drivers of arctic-alpine plant refugia along Lake Superior’s shores,and assess future risk to refugia under moderate(+3.5℃)and warmest(+5.7℃)climate warming ***,we examined how the interactive effects of summer surface water temperatures and wind affected onshore temperatures,resulting in areas of cooler ***,we developed an ecological niche model for the presence of disjunct arctic-alpine refugia(pooling 1253 occurrences from 58 species)along the lake’s ***,we fit species distribution models for 20 of the most common arctic-alpine disjunct species and predicted presence to identify refugia ***,we used the two climate warming scenarios to predict changes in the presence of refugia and disjunct *** type,elevation above water,inland distance,July land surface temperature from MODIS/Terra satellite and near-shore depth of water were the best predictors of disjunct ***,we predicted 2236 km of the shoreline(51%)as disjunct refugia habitat for at least one species under current conditions,but this was reduced to 20% and 7% with moderate(894 km)and warmest(313 km)climate change projections.

Modelling of the variation of granular base materials resilient modulus with material characteristics and humidity conditions

This study aims to quantify the susceptibility of granular materials used in pavements to changes in moisture content and propose a correlation model to incorporate this susceptibility into seasonal *** fines content and the percentage of fractured coarse aggregates were identified as direct indicators of the resilient modulus susceptibility to changes in water *** results showed that the percentage of fractured coarse aggregates particles(FR)has a more significant impact on the resilient modulus(Er)of crushed granular materials used in pavement construction than the combined indicator of the fines content and sample volumetrics(nf).Crushed granular materials with a higher percentage of fractured coarse aggregates are relatively insensitive to changes in the degree of saturation,but become more sensitive as the fine fraction porosity *** adjusted model was proposed based on the existing formulation,but considers a complex parameter to describe and adjust the sensitivity of base granular materials to variations in moisture content with respect to fabrication charac-teristics,fines content and volumetric *** model shows that the variation of Er values is below10%for fully crushed granular ***,it reaches approximately±12%for materials with 75%of crushed coarse aggregates andþ40%and-25%for materials with FR=50%.This model could help select good ag-gregates characteristics and adjust grain-size distribution for environments where significant moisture content variations can occur in the pavement system,such as in the Province of Quebec(Canada).As it is based on pa-rameters that can be easily determined or estimated,it also represents a valuable tool for detailed design and analysis that can consider material characteristics.

Nitrogen mineralization in the oldest climax communities in the eastern Mediterranean region

In this study,we investigated how tree species affect N mineralization in connection to some soil properties and seconder metabolite levels of litter,in the soil of the old-est native forest *** the oldest pure communi-ties of Pinus nigra(PN),Fagus orientalis(FO),and Abies bornmuelleriana(AB)in the mountain range of Mount Uludağ,Bursa,Turkey,annual net yield and N mineraliza-tion in the 0-5-and 5-20-cm soil layers were determined in a field incubation study over 1 *** locations were chosen from 1300 to 1600 m a.s.l.,and moisture content(%),pH,water-holding capacity(%),organic C,total N,and C/N ratio,and annual net mineral N yield of the soil and hydro-lyzed tannic acid and total phenolic compounds in litter were compared for these forest *** had the highest annual net Nmin yield(43.9±4.8 kg ha^(-1) a^(-1)),*** the lowest(30.5±4.2 kg ha^(-1) a^(-1)).Our findings show that in the oldest forest ecosystems,the seasonal soil moisture content and tree species play an essential role in N cycling and that hydrolyzed tannic acids and total phenolic compounds effectively control N *** acid and total phenolics in the litter were found to inhibit nitrification,but total phenolics were found to stimulate ammonification.
