Objective: To compare efficacies and safeties of DICE and CHOP regimens in treating intermediate and high grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), and indicate the standard treatment for it. Methods: A total of 74 patients with moder- ately or highly malignant NHL, verified by pathology or histology, were randomized into the trial group (37 patients treated with DICE regimen) and the control group (37 patients treated with CHOP regimen). Survival rate was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. Chi-square test was performed between groups. Results: The complete response rate, partial response rate, and response rate were significantly higher in DICE group than in CHOP group (40.5% vs. 29.7%, 37.8% vs. 27.0%, and 78.3% vs. 56.7%, respectively, P 0.05) in incidences between the two groups, were leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and nausea. There were only three episodes of clinical cystitis or gross haematuria in DICE regimen. Conclusion: The results showed higher efficacy of DICE regimen over CHOP regimen. DICE regimen may prolong the survival time of patients with moderately and highly malignant NHL.

Objective： The aim of this study was to analyze factors of psychological disorder experienced by 98 cancer patients and to probe into intervention measures in accordance with the corresponding bad psychological factors. Methods： A questionnaire survey was conducted in the test group （n = 98） by filling out a symptom checklist 90 （SCL-90）. And then the survey result was compared with the normal group （n = 1388） contained in relevant references. Results： Except for hostile factor that was similar to normal level （P 〉 0.05）, other 8 factors were higher than in normal group （P 〈 0.01）. And the cancer patients were classified with the survey results. Conclusion： Compared with normal persons, cancer patients have more psychological problems and related intervention measures are sought necessarily to improve the quality of life, to advance the immune function and to prolong the survival time of patients.

Objective To explore the main pathogenic factors in the development of neuronal death during normothermic reperfusion in *** Ninety six New Zealand rabbits were randomly allocated into two groups: group Ⅰ served as non ischemic controls; group Ⅱ served as postischemic normothermic reperfusion models. Complete cerebral ischemia was induced by the four vessel model for 30 minutes. After ischemia, rabbits in group Ⅱ were further divided into three subgroups according to the duration of reperfusion: subgroup A, 30 minutes; subgroup B, 180 minutes and subgroup C, 360 minutes. Twenty eight biochemical parameters in the brain were measured, and neuronal changes were observed by histomorphological assessment. Neurons of 12 regions were differentiated into four types: type A (normal), type B (mildly damaged), type C (severely damaged) and type D (necrotic). Bivariate correlate analysis between the levels of biochemical parameters and the percentages of each type of neurons was carried *** The main parameters involved in the progressive decrement of type A neurons were VIP, β EP, PGI 2, T 3, T 4 and N + a,K + ATPase; in the increment of type B were β EP and TXB 2; in the increment of type C were GLU and TXB 2/PGI 2 respectively; in the stepwise increment of percentages of type D neurons were T 4, N + a,K + ATPase, GLU, T 3 and VIP (P<0.05).Conclusion The main factors involved in the development of neuronal death during postischemic normothermic reperfusion in rabbits include hypermetabolism, deactivation of N + a,K + ATPase, release of excitatory amino acids and disorder of neuropeptides.

We reported the clinical and pathologic features of two different types of renal mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma (MTSCC). The first patient was incidentally discovered by health examination, with lower nuclear grade, no part and distant metastasis. The second patient presented with persistence hyperpyrexia, part and distant metastasis, and high nuclear grade. Surgery were both performed successfully. The first patient had no recurrences and no distant metastases. The second patient died of multiple organ failure 3 months postoperatively. Although MTSCC is usually a low potential malignancy carcinoma, high malignancy may occur and lead to a fatal course. So it needs a proper management and prognostication.

Objective Previous studies showed that hypoxia preconditioning could protect cardiac function against subsequent myo-cardial infarction injury. However, the effect of hypoxia on left ventricular after myocardial infarction is still unclear. This study therefore aims to investigate the effects of hypoxia training on left ventricular remodeling in rabbits post myocardial infarction. Methods Adult male rabbits were randomly divided into three groups： group SO （sham operated）, group MI （myocardial infarc-tion only） and group MI-HT （myocardial infarction plus hypoxia training）. Myocardial infarction was induced by left ventricular branch ligation. Hypoxia training was performed in a hypobaric chamber （having equivalent condition at an altitude of 4000 m, FiO214.9%） for 1 h/day, 5 days/week for four weeks. At the endpoints, vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in the plasma was measured. Infarct size and capillary density were detected by histology. Left ventricular remodeling and function were as-sessed by *** After the 4-week experiment, compared with the group SO, plasma VEGF levels in groups MI （130.27 ± 18.58 pg/mL,P〈 0.01） and MI-HT （181.93 ± 20.29 pg/mL,P〈 0.01） were significantly increased. Infarct size in Group MI-HT （29.67% ± 7.73%） was deceased remarkably, while its capillary density （816.0 ± 122.2/mm2） was significantly increased. For both groups MI and MI-HT, left ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic dimensions were increased whereas left ventricular ejection fraction was decreased. However, compared with group MI, group MI-HT diminished left ventricular end-diastolic （15.86 ± 1.09 mm,P〈 0.05） and end-systolic dimensions （12.10 ± 1.20 mm,P〈 0.01） significantly and im-proved left ventricular ejection fraction （54.39 ± 12.74 mm,P〈 0.05）.ConclusionHypoxia training may improve left ven-tricular function and reduce remodeling via angiogenesis in rabbits with MI.

Effect of Feitai Capsule(肺泰胶囊) on Quality of Life and Progression-Free Survival of Patients with Unresectable Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Objective： To examine the effect of a Chinese medicinal herbal formula （Feitai Capsule, 肺泰胶囊） on the quality of life （QOL） and progression-free survival （PFS） of patients with unresectable non-small cell lung cancer （NSCLC）. Methods： Sixty-two patients were randomly divided into the treatment group （31 cases） and the control group （31 cases）. For the treatment group, 4 capsules （1.2 g/capsule） of Feitai Capsule were administered 3 times a day after meals for 3 weeks; then no drug was administered for 1 week. This schedule was continued for at least 3 more cycles （12 weeks totally）. If there were no obvious toxic reactions, the treatment was extended. The patients were evaluated at least once every 8 weeks until progressive dJsease （PD）. For the control group, the regular follow-up and evaluation were performed at least once every 8 weeks until PD. Clinical symptoms, objective response, physical constitution and energy, QOL, and PFS were evaluated regularly. Analysis of variance （ANOVA）, a non-parametric test, and analysis of covariance were used to compare clinical features, amelioration of clinical symptoms, physical constitution and energy, and QOL. Kaplan- Meier analysis was used to compare the two-group PFS. Results： Sixty patients finished the final evaluation, with 30 patients in each group. Baseline characters between groups were not significantly different （P〉0.05）. The control group had a 36.7% improvement in clinical symptoms, while the treatment group had a 73.3% improvement. This difference was statistically significant （Z=-2.632, P=0.008）. The control group had a 26.7% improvement in the Karnofsky performance status （KPS）, while the treatment group had a 53.4% improvement. This was also significantly different （Z=-2.182, P=0.029）. A comparative analysis indicated a positive correlation （r=0.917, P〈0.001）.
