An indicator model for assessing community resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic and its validation: A case study in Hong Kong

The COVID-19 outbreak had a significant negative impact on the world,and the fifth wave of COVID-19 in Hong Kong brought a considerable shock to Chinese *** is a growing call for more resilient ***,empirical evidence and validation of modeling studies of resilience indicators for urban community responses to the COVID-19 pandemic still need to be *** this study,a resilience assessment indicator model comprising 4 subsystems,7 indicators,and 12 variables was developed to assess the resilience of Hong Kong communities in response to COVID-19(i.e.,Resilience Index).Furthermore,this study utilized regression models such as geographically weighted regression(GWR)and multiscale GWR(MGWR)to validate the resilience model proposed in this study at the model and variable *** the regression model,the Resilience Index and the individual variables in the resilience model are explanatory variables,and the outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic(confirmed cases,confirmation rate,discharged cases,discharge rate)are dependent *** results showed that:(i)the resilience of Hong Kong communities to the COvID-19 pandemic was not strong in general and showed some clustered spatial distribution characteristics;(i)the validation results at the model level showed that the Resilience Index did not explain the consequences of the COvID-19 pandemic to a high degree;(ii)the validation results at the variable level showed that the MGWR model was the best at identifying the relationships between explanatory variables and the dependent variable;and(iv)compared with the model-level assessment results,the variable-level assessment explained the consequences of the COvID-19 pandemic better than the model level assessment *** above analysis and the spatial distribution maps of the resilience variables can provide empirically based and targeted insights for policymakers.

Disturbance-Free Payload(DFP)spacecraft can meet the requirements of ultra-high attitude pointing accuracy and stability for future space ***,as the main control actuators of DFP spacecraft,Linear Non-Contact Lorentz Actuators(LNCLAs)have control output problems with six-degree-of-freedom coupling and nonlinear effects,which will affect the attitude control performance of DFP *** solve this problem,a novel concept for Non-Contact Annular Electromagnetic Stabilized Satellite Platform(NCAESSP)is proposed in this *** concept is centered on replacing the LNCLAs with a non-contact annular electromagnetic actuator to solve the two problems mentioned ***,for the different control requirements of the payload module and the support module of the NCAESSP,a high-precision attitude controller based on the robust model matching method and a dual quaternion-based adaptive sliding mode controller are ***,the simulation results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Minimum temperatures have remarkable impacts on tree growth at high-elevation sites on the Tibetan Plateau,but the shortage of long-term and high-resolution paleoclimate records inhibits understanding of recent minimum temperature *** this study,a warm season(April–September)reconstruction is presented for the past 467 years(1550–2016)based on Sabina tibetica ring-width chronology on the Lianbaoyeze Mountain of the central eastern Tibetan *** warm periods and eight cold periods were ***-term minimum temperature variations revealed a high degree of coherence with nearby *** correlations between our reconstruction and global sea surface temperatures suggest that warm season minimum temperature anomalies in the central eastern Tibetan Plateau were strongly influenced by large-scale ocean atmospheric circulations,such as the El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation.

Dynamic transfer and driving mechanisms of the coupling and coordination of agricultural resilience and rural land use efficiency in China

The joint study of agriculture and rural areas is of great significance for safeguarding agricultural development,revitalizing rural areas,and enhancing farmers'*** paper aims to assess the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of the coupling and coordination degree of agricultural resilience and rural land use efficiency and their dynamic transfer law and driving mechanisms,based on panel data of 31 provinces(municipalities and autonomous regions)in China from 2010 to *** results showed:(1)Good coupling and coordination of agricultural resilience and rural land use efficiency,with reduced temporal differentiation degrees between regions;(2)Significant spatial autocorrelation between the overall coupling and coordination degrees of agricultural resilience and rural land use efficiency,forming cold spot and hot spot spatial patterns in the western and eastern parts,respectively,with a central transition area;(3)A spillover effect of the dynamic transfer process,with a manifested specific law as"club convergence","Matthew effect",and progressive development characteristics;(4)The key roles of the natural,social,economic,and policy indicators in the coupling and coordination development process of agricultural resilience and rural land use ***,the selected indicators showed substantial spatial differences in their influences on the coupling and coordination process between provinces.

Spatial Morphology Evolution Characteristics Analysis of the Resident Population Distribution in Henan, China

The population spatial distribution pattern and its evolving pattern play an important role in regional allocation of social resources and production factors, formulation of regional development plans, construction of a better life society, and promotion of regional economic development. Based on the resident population statistics data of Henan province from 2006 to 2021, with county as the basic study unit, the paper studies the spatial morphology characteristics and its evolution patterns of resident population distribution, by using spatial analysis methods such as population distribution center, standard deviation ellipse, and spatial auto correlation analysis. The results show that: the resident population spatial distribution shows unbalanced state, the population agglomeration areas mainly distribute in the northeast part and north part, where the resident population growth rate is significantly higher than other regions, over time, this trend is gradually becoming significant. The resident population distribution has a trend of centripetal concentration, with the degree and trend of centripetal gradually strengthening. The resident population distribution has obvious directional characteristics, but the significance is not high, the weighted resident population average center is approximately located at (4.13740˚N, 113.8935˚E), and the azimuth of the distribution axis is approximately 11.19˚. The population distribution has obvious agglomeration characteristics, with the built-up areas of Zhengzhou and Luoyang as their centers, where have a significant siphon effect on the surrounding population. The southern and southwestern regions in the province form a relatively stable belt area of Low-Low agglomeration areas.

The Imbalanced Pattern of Population and Economy and Its Influencing Factors in the Wumeng Mountain Area

Based on the population and economic data of the Wumeng Mountain Area from 2000 to 2020,this study explored the imbalanced spatiotemporal patterns of population and economy in the area using methods such as the geographic concentration,gravity model,imbalance index,and inconsistency *** study also analyzed the influencing factors using geodetectors and spatiotemporal geographically weighted regression *** results show four key aspects of this phenomenon.(1)The spatial distributions of the population and economic geographic concentrations deviate from their ideal *** population distribution shows a spatial pattern of being higher in the northeast and lower in the southwest,while the economic distribution shows a spatial pattern of being higher in the south and lower in the north.(2)The population and economic gravity centers have shifted toward the northeast and south relative to the geometric center of the mountain area,respectively,and the economic center has shifted more than the population center.(3)The degree of imbalance between the population and economic distributions is decreasing,but regional development disparities still *** region with inconsistent spatial distributions between population and economy remains stable,showing a"north high,south low"pattern,with an increase in the number of counties dominated by the economy and reductions in the numbers of counties in other categories.(4)Economic power,social consumption level,industrial structure,urban development level,government regulation capacity,and health care infrastructure are the main factors affecting the inconsistent distributions of population and economy in Wumeng Mountain Area,and the effects of these factors are reflected in the promotion of economic development.

Morphological characteristics and evolution model of slope units along loess gully cross section

Gully morphology is an important part of loess landform *** with gully development,the variation of its cross section is the most significant,and it can intuitively reflect the characteristics of the lateral widening of the gully ***,in-depth research of the variation of the cross-sectional morphology of the gully is helpful to understanding the development process of the loess *** on the DEMs(Digital Elevation Model)of nine periods of an indoor simulated loess small watershed,this paper studies the evolution model of a complete branch ditch in the watershed using the digital terrain analysis theory and *** show that with the development of the gully,the average gradient of the gully slope continuously decreases,and the slope morphology is mostly a concave slope along the slope *** degree of downward concave first increases and then gradually tends to be *** gully erosion mode is gradually transformed from downward cutting erosion to lateral *** more mature the gully development,the lower the depth of gully bottom cutting is compared with the width of gully ***,the surface cutting depth tends to be stable and the slope is ***,the transformation law of the slope morphology of the gully cross section with the development of the gully is studied,and the prediction model of the transformation of the slope morphology of the gully cross section is established by using the Markov *** Markov model can better reflect the dynamic change of the slope morphology of the gully cross section,which is of great significance to revealing the external performance and internal mechanism of the gully morphology.

Social upgrading does not inherently follow economic upgrading;rather,they present a complex *** paper,focusing on China,utilizes the coupling coordination degree and a panel regression model to shed light on the intricate interaction between social upgrading and economic *** is found that the coupling coordination degree of social and economic upgrading in China has improved from 0.33 to 0.49 since the mid-1990s,undergoing a shift from a stage of slight imbalance to low-level ***,significant regional disparities are present in terms of economic upgrading,social upgrading,and their coupling coordination *** areas exhibit a higher degree of coupling coordination compared to less developed regions,indicating a connection between the coupling coordination degree and the level of economic *** globalization,public governance,and the legal environment positively impact the coupling coordination between social and economic upgrading,while economic privatization and corporate violations of law exert negative *** paper concludes with policy discussions for enhancing the coupling coordination between social and economic upgrading.

In this paper,considering the cost of base station,coverage,call quality,and other practical factors,a multi-objective optimal site planning scheme is ***,based on practical needs,mathematical modeling methods were used to establish mathematical expressions for the three sub-objectives of cost objectives,coverage objectives,and quality ***,a multi-objective optimization model was established by combining threshold and traffic volume *** order to reduce the time complexity of optimization,a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm(NSGA)is used to solve the multi-objective optimization problem of site ***,a strategy for clustering and optimizing weak coverage areas was *** order to avoid redundant neighborhood retrieval during cluster expansion,the Fast Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise(FDBSCAN)clustering method was *** different sub-objectives as the main objectives,this paper obtained the distribution map of weak coverage areas before and after the establishment of new base stations,as well as relevant site planning maps,and provided three planning schemes for different main *** simulation results show that the traffic coverage of the three station planning schemes is above 90%.The change in the main optimization objective will result in a significant difference between the cost of the three solutions and the coverage of weak coverage points.

Climate and topography regulate the spatial pattern of soil salinization and its effects on shrub community structure in Northwest China

Soil salinization may affect biodiversity and species composition,leading to changes in the plant community ***,few studies have explored the spatial pattern of soil salinization and its effects on shrub community structure at the ecosystem ***,we conducted a transect sampling of desert shrublands in Northwest China during the growing season(June–September)in *** salinization(both the degree and type),shrub community structure(e.g.,shrub density and height),and biodiversity parameters(e.g.,Simpson diversity,Margalf abundance,Shannon-Wiener diversity,and Pielou evenness indices)were used to assess the effects of soil salinization on shrub community *** results showed that the primary degree of soil salinization in the study area was light salinization,with the area proportion of 69.8%.Whereas the main type of soil salinization was characterized as sulfate saline soil,also accounting for 69.8%of the total ***,there was a significant reduction in the degree of soil salinization and a shift in the type of soil salinization from chloride saline soil to sulfate saline soil,with an increase in *** mean annual precipitation(MAP),mean annual evapotranspiration(MAE),elevation,and slope significantly contributed to soil salinization and its geochemical *** soil salinization intensified,shrub community structure displayed increased diversity and evenness,as indicated by the increases in the Simpson diversity,Shannon-Wiener diversity,and Pielou evenness ***,the succulent stems and leaves of Chenopodiaceae and Tamaricaceae exhibited clear advantages under these ***,regional climate and topography,such as MAP,MAE,and elevation,had greater effects on the distribution of shrub plants than soil *** results provide a reference for the origin and pattern of soil salinization in drylands and their effects on the community structure of halophyte shrub species.
