Objective The -455 G/A(HaeIII)polymorphism of β-fibrinogen gene influences levels of plasma fibrinogen. We further investigated whether it influences the risk of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Methods We accumulated 134 acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease(ICVD)cases and compared their -455 G/A status with a control group(n = 166). The β-fibrinogen gene -455 G/A polymorphism was analyzed for all subjects by PCR-RFLP with the restrictive enzyme HaeIII. Results Plasma fibrinogen was higher in AA homozygous participants(341 mg/dL)than in partici-pants carrying the G allele: GA(290 mg/dL), GG(298 mg/dL)in the control group. Plasma fibrinogen was also higher in AA homozygous patients(353 mg/dL)than in cases carrying the G allele: GA(287 mg/dL), GG(302 mg/dL)in the ICVD group. However, there was no significant association between β-fibrinogen gene -455 G/A polymorphism and ICVD group. Conclusions Although a small effect cannot be excluded, β-fibrinogen gene -455 G/A polymor-phism is an independent predictor of plasma fibrinogen, but not of ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

Objective This study assesses the impact of iodine-rich processed foods and dining places on the iodine nutritional status of *** School-aged children(SAC) in seven provinces in China were selected by school-based multistage sampling. Urinary iodine, salt iodine, and thyroid volume(TVOL) were determined. Questionnaires were used to investigate dining places and iodine-rich processed foods. The water iodine was from the2017 national survey. Multi-factor regression analysis was used to find correlations between *** Children ate 78.7% of their meals at home, 15.1% at school canteens, and 6.1% at other *** percentage of daily iodine intake from water, iodized salt, iodine-rich processed foods, and cooked food were 1.0%, 79.2%, 1.5%, and 18.4%, respectively. The salt iodine was correlated with the urinary iodine and TVOL, respectively(r = 0.999 and-0.997, P < 0.05). The iodine intake in processed foods was weakly correlated with the TVOL(r = 0.080, P < 0.01). Non-iodized salt used in processed foods or diets when eating out had less effect on children’s iodine nutrition *** Iodized salt remains the primary source of daily iodine intake of SAC, and processed food has less effect on iodine nutrition. Therefore, for children, iodized salt should be a compulsory supplement in their routine diet.

Chromium(Cr) may cause losses in the yield of field plant, which is one of the favorite habitats of Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt). The purposes of our study were to assess the Cr(VI)-resistance and Cr(VI)-reducing abilities of an indigenous soil isolate of Bt and to determine the factors governing Cr(VI) reduction. Towards this end a novel dichromate-reducing Bt BRC-ZYR2, characterized with insecticidal crystal proteins(ICPs), was isolated from a uranium deposit. Minimum inhibitory concentrations(MICs) of Cr(VI) were determined by broth dilution method and the concentrations of Cr(VI) and total Cr in the supernatant were quantified colorimetrically using 1,5-diphenylcarbazide(DPC) reagent and a mixture of sulfuric-nitric acids, respectively. The isolate contained five ICP genes(cry1Ba, cry1 Bb, cry1Be/cry1 Bf, cry9 Ca and cry9Da) and exhibited a high level of Cr(VI) resistance with MICs of 150 mg L-1at pH 7.0 and 30?C, and 500 mg L-1under optimal conditions(pH 9.0 and 40?C). The total Cr concentration was similar to initial concentration of Cr(VI) under the optimal condition, suggesting that the essential removal of the Cr(VI) was dependent on Bt reduction. Under optimal conditions, the initial Cr(VI) concentrations from 25 to 75 mg L-1significantly decreased in 24 h after incubation. Addition of Mn2+, Co2+, Mo2+and Cu2+activated Bt-mediated Cr(VI) reduction, while Zn2+, Ni2+and glucose were found to inhibit the reduction. Our results indicated that this isolate could be a promising biopesticide with the potential for both insect biocontrol and Cr bioremediation in the field.

Background As a kind of sirolimus-eluting stent （SES） made in China, Firebird SES is more effective than bare metal stent （BMS） and not inferior to Cypher SES for short coronary lesions in terms of reduction of restenosis and revascularization. However, Firebird SES does not show any benefits in patients with a very long coronary lesion （VLCL）. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Firebird SES for VLCL by comparison of Cypher SES and BMS. Methods In this prospective, nonrandomized and comparative study, eligible patients with de novo coronary lesion （≥ 30 mm） between January 2005 and June 2006 were allocated into Firebird SES group, Cypher SES group or BMS group. They were subjected to an angiographic follow-up of 6 months and a clinical follow-up of 12 months. The primary endpoints constitute the in-stent and in-segment restenosis rates at 6 months. The secondary endpoint was defined as a major adverse cardiovascular event （MACE） that was a 12-month combined endpoint of all-cause deaths, reinfarction or in-stent thrombosis, and target-lesion revascularization. The 12-month in-stent thrombosis was also evaluated to address the safety of Firebird SES implantation exceptionally. Results A total of 468 patients were assessed for eligibility. Of 113 patients who were finally included according to the prior inclusion and exclusion criteria, 39 （41 lesions） were treated with Firebird SES, 37 （39 lesions） with Cypher SES, and 37 （37 lesions） with BMS. There were no significant differences in the baseline characteristics between the three groups; but there were longer lesions, more frequent use of overlapping stent in the Firebird SES group and the Cypher SES group. Angiographic follow-up showed that the rates of binary stenosis were similar between the Firebird SES group and the Cypher SES group （in-segment： 14.6% vs 12.8%, relative risk （RR）1.14, P=0.81; in-stent： 9.8% vs 10.3%, RR 0.95, P=0.94）, and significantly lower than those in the
