The primary objective of this study is to delve into transnational projects conducted between 2014 and 2020,with a strong emphasis on environmental *** focus is directed toward projects that encompass either eco-innovation or feature elements intrinsic to a circular *** achieve this goal,we introduce a pioneering analytical framework tailored to dissect transnational projects,which intricately interweaves the diverse dimensions of environmental quality and innovation,facilitating a comparative assessment across various program *** approach aligns with the overarching mission of the four flagship initiatives,in which we evaluate the combined impacts on sustainability and *** evaluation considers three fundamental factors:(1)resource allocation,(2)innovation type,and(3)infusion of eco-innovation or circular economy *** methodology unfolds through a systematic,step-by-step ***,we meticulously handpick programs,specifically Interreg,Horizon,and Life projects,within the scope of TSG3(Environmental Quality).Each of these programs corresponds to one of the following four flagship initiatives:(1)overseeing and managing marine species,(2)fostering sustainable development in coastal and maritime zones,(3)safeguarding and elevating natural habitats and terrestrial ecosystems,and(4)formulating transnational contingency strategies for maritime *** an exhaustive review,we identify projects that either directly or indirectly champion eco-innovation or other facets of the circular ***,we uncover broader manifestations of innovation,eco-innovation,and circular economy *** the Oslo Manual as a guide,we methodically categorize these innovations into the product,process,organizational,and marketing *** the timeframe under scrutiny,a relatively modest subset of projects embraced eco-innovations and practices aligned with the circular *** findings culminate in

The objective of this study is to examine whether or not the gains from reduced spraying for bollworms are being sustained more than one decade after the initial adoption in 2007. Based on farm-level data collected by the authors in 1999–2007 in 16 villages from 4 provinces, this study shows that insecticides applied for controlling bollworms have declined. This analysis supports Chinese policy makers’ decision to not require refuges of non-Bt cotton fields. It also suggests that past studies may have underestimated the benefits from adopting Bt technology.

In the context of genetically modified crops expressing the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxin, a ‘refuge’ refers to a crop of the same or a related species that is planted nearby to enable growth and reproduction of the target pest without the selection pres- sure imposed by the Bt toxin. The goal of this study is to discuss the role of natural refuge crops in slowing down the buildup of resistance of cotton bollworm (CBW), and to evaluate China’s no-refuge policy for Bt cotton. We describe in detail the dif- ferent factors that China should consider in relation to the refuge policy. Drawing on a review of scientific data, economic analyses of other cases, and a simulation exercise using a bio-economic model, we show that in the case of Bt cotton in China, the no-refuge policy is defensible.

State-owned enterprises(SOEs)in China have undergone significant restructuring since the *** date,scholars have devoted considerable attention to the constraints upon and motives for corporate restructuring in *** the majority of the existing studies treat restructuring as a simple ownership transfer from the state to non-state entities without considering the resulting ownership structure of the ***,we know relatively little about why otherwise similar SOEs were restructured at different times and through different *** study intends to fill this gap by examining the determinants of both the timing and the methods of restructuring in a unique longitudinal survey of 145 SOEs over an 11-year *** a competing-risks model,we demonstrate that political as well as economic factors determine the possibility,nature and speed of *** particular,we show that political constraints on employee retention increase the likelihood that a SOE will be restructured as shareholding as opposed to its ownership being directly transferred to private *** findings shed new light on the economic and political logic of corporate restructuring in China.

Impact of a Senior High School Tuition Relief Program on Poor Junior High School Students in Rural China

A significant gap remains between rural and urban students in the rate of admission to senior high school. One reason for this gap might be the high levels of tuition and fees for senior high school By reducing students＇ expectations of attending high school, high levels of tuition and fees could be reducing student aeademic performance in junior high schools. In this paper we evaluate the impacts of a senior high tuition relief program on the test scores of poor rural seventh grade students in China. We surveyed three counties in Shaanxi Province and exploited the fact that, while the counties are adjacent to one another and share similar characteristics, only one of the three implemented a tuition relief program. Using several alternative estimation strategies, including difference-in-differences, propensity score matching and difference-in-differences matching, we find that the tuition program has a statistically significant and positive impact on the mathematics scores of seventh grade students. More importantly, this program is shown to have a statistically significant and positive effect on the poorest students in the treatment group compared to their wealthier peers.

The high level of dropout from junior high school is one of the most serious challenges facing the human capital development of the next generation of workers in China ＂s rural areas. The goal of this paper is to assess to what extent the educational expectations of students are correlated with dropout behavior at the junior high school level in China. Using panel data, this research finds that the cumulative dropout rate is high among grade 7 and 8 students within our sample （as high as 19.5 percent, which implies a 3-year dropout rate of around 25 pereenO. Importantly, we find that this high rate of dropout is significantly correlated with students＂ educational expectations. Specifically, students who reported their expected level of education is ＂less than high school＂ or ＂less than college＂ are five times and four times more likely to drop out during junior high school than their peers, respectively.

China＇s rapid development and urbanization have induced large numbers of rural residents to migrate from their homes in the countryside to urban areas in search of higher wages. It is estimated that there are more than 60 million ＂left-behind children ＂＂（LBC） remaining in the countryside after their parents migrate, typically living with surrogate caregivers. Extensive research has focused on the impact of parental out- migration on children＇s mental health, but less attention has been paid to the effects of parental return-migration. The present paper examines the changes in mental health before and after the parents of fourth and fifih grade students out-migrate or return-migrate. We draw on a panel dataset collected by the authors of more than 19 000 students from 252 rural primary schools in northwestern China. Using DID and propensity score matching approaches, our results indicate that parental out-migration has a significant negative impact on the mental health of LBC, as they tend to exhibit higher levels of anxiety and lower levels of self-esteem. However, we find that parental return-migration has no significant effect on the mental health of LBC.

Despite increasing institutional and financial support, certain public health issues are still neglected by the Chinese Government. The present paper examines the soil-transmitted helminth （STH） infection and reinfection rates by conducting a survey on 1724 children in Guizhou Province, China. Our results indicate that 37.5 percent of children had been infected with one or more of the three types of tested STH. However, only 50.4 percent of children reported having taken deworming medicine during the 18-month period before the survey. Of those who reported being dewormed, 34.6 percent tested positive for STH infections. Poverty and number of siblings are significantly and positively correlated with infection and reinfection, and parental education is significantly and negatively correlated with infection and reinfection. Given the ineffectiveness of treatment in these areas to date, for anthelminthic campaigns to actually succeed, China must pay more attention to local- level incentives to improve children＇s health.
