Energy Values of Registered Corn Forage Hybrids in france over the Last 20 Years Rose in a Context of Maintained Yield Increase

The cultivation of corn silage has developed in france since the 1970s to reach 1.5 million of hectares nowadays. Since 1998, a feeding value criterion (namely UFL for “Unité Fourrage Laitière”) has been taken into account to register forage varieties in the French forage maize hybrids catalog in addition to other criteria related to plant agronomical performances such as yield, earliness and lodging resistance. It is frequently stated that the improvement of plant’s agronomic performances would led to a decline in forage energy value. Decline of “Unité Fourrage Laitière” values has been repeatedly reported and the expected increase was not yet visible in 2002. In the present study, a set 47 early and mid-early hybrids commercialized in france between 1958 and 2015 has been cultivated in 3 locations in france. “Unité Fourrage Laitière” values and yield have been estimated in order to shed light on the evolution of feeding value criteria during this period and to conclude on the evolution of “Unité Fourrage Laitière” values since the introduction of this criterion for registration. Results obtained in our study demonstrated a recent rise in “Unité Fourrage Laitière” value in a context of strong yield increase. This increase was not necessarily attributable to high cob proportion in the harvested silage. Breeder’s work since the 2000’s has succeeded to offer hybrids that recover “Unité Fourrage Laitière” values similar to the ones of hybrids from the 1960’s (Royal, 1960, 91 UFL/100 kg DM). We propose to accentuate this effort targeting the enhancement of lignocellulosic cell wall digestibility to breed for future forage maize hybrids.

Atmospheric carbonyls were measured at a semi-urban site in Orléans, france, from October 2010to July2011. Formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acetone were found to be the most abundant carbonyls, with average concentrations of 3.1, 1.0, 2.0 ppb, respectively in summer, 2.3, 0.7, 2.2 ppb, respectively in autumn, 2.2, 1.0, 2.1 ppb, respectively in spring,and 1.5, 0.7, 1.1 ppb, respectively in winter. Photo-oxidation of volatile organic compounds（VOCs） was found to make a remarkable contribution to atmospheric carbonyls in the semi-urban site based on the distinct seasonal and diurnal variations of the carbonyls, as well as the significantly positive correlations between the carbonyls and ozone. The significantly negative correlations between NO x and O_3 as well as the carbonyls and the positive correlations between wind speed and O_3 as well as the carbonyls implied that the carbonyls and O_3 at the semi-urban site were probably formed during air mass transport from neighboring cities.

Background: Lewy body disease (LBD) is a neurodegenerative affection responsible for impaired quality of life. The objective was to share the data experience of 14 years concerning the functional, neuropsychological and behaviors effects on geriatrics patients. Methodology: Descriptive retrospective study over 14 years (2005 to 2019) in the geriatrics department of Pitié Salpétrière Hospital, using the instrumentals activity of daily living (IADL) sheets and the neuropsychological inventory (NPI) assessed at the moment diagnosis according to the diagnostic criteria of 2017 and 1996. Results: A total of 70 patients including 55 exploitable files had been listed with a mean age 82.6 years [70 - 91], a sex ratio 1.2 in men favor, a mean socio-cultural level 5.2 [1 - 7], a mean Cumulating Illness Scale (CIRS52) = 10 [1 - 22]. The mean IADL and NPI were respectively 9.3 [3 - 11] and 25.1 [0 - 79]. We found an early global impairment of IADL activities frequent in transport (65%), medication management (49%), and displacement (42%) for basic activities without significant statistical difference between the age and sex groups but statistically significant early involvement with polypathology after adjustment for displacement (45%) and transport (65%). The IADL impairment is significant as soon as the MMS-BREF decreases. Hoen Yahr (HY) scale increase could influences shopping (22%), displacement (27%) after adjustment. NPI disorders frequently found were apathy-depression (31.8% - 25%), anxiety (28%), irritability (25.6%) and sleep disturbance (22.9%) after 80 years old independently of gender and poly-pathology. Also, the best mental status was associated of less disturbance of NPI items. Conclusion: Polypathology, motor disorders and cognitive decline seem to influence IADL while with advanced age, cognitive decline appears to be worsened early in LBD.

AIM To study the impact of vaccination critical illness due to H1N1pdm09, we compared the incidence and severity of H1N1pdm09 infection in Canada and *** We studied two national cohorts that included children with documented H1N1pdm09 infection, admitted to a pediatric intensive care unit(PICU) in Canada and in france between October 1, 2009 and January 31, *** Vaccination coverage prior to admission to PICUs was higher in Canada than in france(21% vs 2% of children respectively, P france(P france(4.4% vs 6.5%, P = 0.45, respectively), median invasive mechanical ventilation duration and mean PICU length of stay were shorter in Canada(4 d vs 6 d, P = 0.02 and 5.7 d vs 8.2 d, P = 0.03, respectively). H1N1pdm09 vaccination prior to PICU admission was associated with a decreased risk of requiring invasive mechanical ventilation(OR = 0.30, 95%CI: 0.11-0.83, P = 0.02).CONCLUSION The critical illness due to H1N1pdm09 had a higher incidence in Canada than in france. Critically ill children were less likely to have received vaccination prior to hospitalization in comparison to general population and children vaccinated had lower risk of ventilation.

Introduction: Macrosomia is usually defined by the delivery of a child over 4000 g at term. Because of the margins of error, the obstetrician must take into account, in addition to ultrasound, the constitutional and acquired factors of the mother in order to be able to prevent the complications expected during the delivery of a large fetus. Material and method: We carried out a cross-sectional, descriptive, 12-month study in a level 2 hospital in southern france (Montélimar). The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of macrosomia, to identify the epidemiological characteristics of the patients, to specify the management of obstetrics and complications in this hospital. Results: We recorded 141 births with a weight greater than or equal to 4000 g. That is a rate of 7.95%. The average age of our patients is 30 years. Half of them had a BMI of less than 25 and were not diabetic. 75% of the patients gave birth by a low-dose route. The sex ratio of the children is male to female 2:1. The main maternal complications were the perineovaginal tears (39 cases) and the hemorrhages of the deliverance (6 cases). Conclusion: The delivery of macrosomia is not uncommon at the Hospital Center of Montélimar. It predominates among Caucasians. Usual risk factors have rarely been found. Overall management was without major complications for both the mother and the child.

Introduction: Chronic ankle instability comprises two main entities, often associated with mechanical instability due to ligament and/or bone trauma, and functional instability due to a postural or proprioceptive defect. Periosteal ankle ligamentoplasty is a widely used technique in france. The aim of our study was to evaluate the functional result after a ligamentoplasty technique on the periosteum known as Roy-Camille/Saillant. Methods: A retrospective study of 264 months which involved 21 patients including 3 women and 18 men with a sex ratio of 6 with a mean age of 38.71 (25 - 58) years. Patients were included who benefited from a Roy-Camille/Saillant periosteal ligamentoplasty for chronic ankle instability and had accepted for the completion of an evaluation form. Fourteen were reviewed clinically and radiologically. We have an assessment sheet taking into account pain, function and alignment. The rearfoot AOFAS score indicates excellent (90 - 100), good (80 - 89), fair (70 - 79), and poor (Results: A minimum follow-up of 8 months and an average follow-up of 7 years (8 months to 18 years). 93% had a painless and stable ankle, and 86% returned to sport. The mean postoperative AOFAS score was 97 (87 - 100), (86%) patients believed their ankle was more stable after surgery, (14%) did not feel any difference. 11 patients were very satisfied, 3 satisfied. Among the 11 satisfied with the operation, two (2) people complained of a sensitivity disorder. One patient presented with hypoaesthesia in the superficial peroneal nerve territory. Nine of them felt no difference between their right and left ankle. Conclusion: The satisfaction rate was 93%, and the results obtained in our study are in agreement with other techniques and previous publications on similar procedures.

Several research studies have proven that eliciting and predicting the impact of human activity on ecosystem services will be crucial to support stakeholders’ awareness and to decide how to interact with the environment in a more sustainable manner. In this sense, the ecosystems known as road verges are particularly important because of their length and surface at an international scale, and their role in mitigating the damage done by roads. Plant pollination by insects is one of the most important ecosystem services. Because of its nature and the fact that they extend across a variety of landscapes, roadside can contribute to the maintenance of healthy ecosystems, under the condition of adapted management practices. This research is the first attempt to develop a System Dynamics-based aiming to estimate the ecological and economic impact of maintenance on the road verge pollination service in france. Maintenance strategies of road verges are simulated to compare their performance. The results show that there are ways to improve current maintenance strategies in terms of pollination value, but also that the model needs to consider other ecosystem services and synergistic effects that could further affect pollination to obtain more accurate estimations.

Systemic scleroderma is a rare disease in which visceral manifestations occur, particularly peripheral vascular, digestive, cardiopulmonary and renal. It is pathology with a predilection for women. The present clinical case is that of a man with the renal complications of scleroderma and the difficulties of the treatment even in the developed countries like france. In the present case, the management of this disease required a high dose of corticosteroid therapy and extra-renal purification. Early detection of complications through a minimal clinical examination supplemented with paraclinic tests has proved necessary.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease causing an alteration of life quality in the terminal stage. The purpose was to report 14 years of experience about the early impact on the quality of life of patients with AD. Methodology: Descriptive retrospective study over 14 years in the geriatric department of Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital, using the activity of daily living, Instrumental activity of daily living, neuropsychological inventory and Hoen Yahr scale evaluated at the time of diagnosis of AD according to the National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders and Stroke-Alzheimer Disease’s and Related Disorders Association diagnostic criteria. Results: A total of 214 exploitable files had been listed. At the moment of diagnosis, the mean age was 82.1 years with extremes 68 to 95 with sex ratio 1.6 in women’s favor. The mean socio-cultural level was 4.9 with extremes about 0 to 7. There was poly pathology with a mean Cumulative Illness Rate Scale = 4.6 with extremes 0 to 16. the mean cognitive status was moderate = 22.5 with extremes 0 to 30. Quality life showed moderate impairment of IADL = 9.2 with extreme 3 to 11 compared to activity of daily living. The activity of daily living was more affected in 68 - 80-year-olds, while poly pathology impacted more on IADL in men. The cognitive impairment was more deficient in IADL when the MMSE test was low. The common disorders at the NPI were psychological, behavioral and psychotic. Conclusion: At the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease cognitive deficiencies were predominant and influenced on global Instrumental activity and psychological, behavioral disorders.
