Prediction of Sooting Index of Fuel Compounds for Spark-Ignition Engine Applications Based on a Machine Learning Approach

A joint consideration of potential combustion and emission performance in spark-ignition engines is essential for designing gasoline fuel replacements and additives,for which the knowledge of the fuels’characteristic properties forms the *** aim of this study is to predict sooting tendency of fuel molecules for spark-ignition engine applications in terms of their yield sooting indexes(YSI).In conjunction with our previously developed database for gasoline compounds,which includes the physical and chemical properties,such as octane numbers,laminar burning velocity,and heat of vaporization,for more than 600 species,the identification of fuel replacements and additives can thus be performed jointly with respect to both their potential thermal efficiency benefits and emission formation characteristics in spark-ignition *** this purpose,a quantitative structure-property relationship(QSPR)model is developed to predict the YSI of fuel species by using artificial neural network(ANN)techniques with 21 well-selected functional group descriptors as input *** model is trained and cross-validated with the YSI database reported by Yale *** is then applied to estimate the YSI values of fuels available in the database for gasoline compounds and to explore the sensitivity of fuel’s sooting tendency on molecular *** addition,the correlation of YSI values with other properties available in the gasoline fuel database is examined to gain insights into the dependence of these ***,a selection of potential gasoline blending components is carried out exemplarily,by taking the fuels’potential benefits in thermal engine efficiency and their soot formation characteristics jointly into account in terms of efficiency merit function and YSI,respectively.

Delamination Testing of AlSi10Mg Sandwich Structures with Pyramidal Lattice Truss Core made by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

Modifier-concept of colorectal carcinogenesis: Lipidomics as a technical tool in pathway analysis

In the modifier concept of intestinal carcinogenesis, lipids have been established as important variables and one focus is given to long-chain fatty acids. Increased consumption of long-chain fatty acids is in discussion to modify the development of colorectal carcinoma in humans. Saturated long-chain fatty acids, in particular, are assumed to promote carcinogenesis, whereas poly-unsaturated forms are likely to act in the opposite way. At present, the molecular mechanisms behind these effects are not well understood. Recently, it has been demonstrated by lipidomics and associated molecular techniques, that activation and metabolic channeling of long-chain fatty acids are important mechanisms to modify colorectal carcinogenesis. In this Editorial, an overview about the present concept of long-chain fatty acids and its derivatives in colorectal carcinogenesis as well as technical algorithms in lipid analysis is given.

Integration of structural simulations into a real-time capable Overall System Simulation for complex mechatronic systems

To meet the rising demand of performing complex tasks in a highly technologized world,the development of mechatronic systems faces two major challenges:First,the system is integrated in a fast changing environment and has to cope with dynamically modified tasks and *** the same time,the development of new methods has to be fast,cost-effective and *** taking care of both aspects simultaneously,simulations have become an acknowledged tool to cost-effectively and rapidly test and optimize new solutions for complex mechatronic systems,as they are common in,e.g.,***,simulation methods are specialized for one purpose and thus used as a stand-alone tool to analyze the behavior of single components or certain aspects of the whole *** with size and complexity of the system,the susceptibility to errors rises when the interaction between components *** a component shows minimal deviations to its nominal behavior,huge interdependencies between components of complex systems might cause system *** structural behavior of a single component is therefore as crucial to the functionality of the whole system as the interplay of all *** aspects have to be analyzed in parallel,which is nowadays barely ***,this work presents the integration of structural simulations into the overall *** developed approach consists of a concept,an implementation and the validation for an automated bidirectional interaction to integrate results from Finite Element Analysis(FEA)into an existing,real-time capable Overall System Simulation for mechatronic systems in general and robotics in particular.

Virtual welding equipment for simulation of GMAW processes with integration of power source regulation

A two dimensional transient numerical analysis and computational module for simulation of electrical and thermal characteristics during electrode melting and metal transfer involved in Gas-Metal-Arc-Welding （GMAW） processes is presented. Solution of *** transient heat transfer equation is carried out using a control volume finite difference technique. The computational module also includes controlling and regulation algorithms of industrial welding power sources. The simulation results are the current and voltage waveforms, mean voltage drops at different parts of circuit, total electric power, cathode, anode and arc powers and arc length. We describe application of the model for normal process （constant voltage） and for pulsed processes with U/I and Ill- modulation modes. The comparisons with experimental waveforms of current and voltage show that the model predicts current, voltage and electric power with a high accuracy. The model is used in simulation package SimWeld for calculation of heat flux into the work-piece and the weld seam formation. From the calculated heat flux and weld pool sizes, an equivalent volumetric heat source according to Goldak model, can be generated. The method was implemented and investigated with the simulation software SimWeld developed by the ISF at rwth aachen university.

CityGML,a semantic information model for digital/virtual city models has become quite popular in various *** the data format is still actively under development,it is already supported by different software solutions,especially GIS-based desktop *** systems on the other hand are still neglected,even though the georeferenced objects of CityGML have many application fields,for example,in the currently popular area of location-based Augmented *** this paper we present an independent multi-platform CityGML viewer,its architecture and specific implementation techniques that we use to realize and optimize the process of visualizing CityGML data for use in Augmented *** main focus lies in improving the implementation on mobile devices,such as smartphones,and assessing its usability and performance in comparison to web-based *** to the constrained hardware resources of smartphones,it is a particular challenge to handle complex 3D objects and large virtual worlds as provided by CityGML,not only in terms of memory and storage space,but also with respect to mobile processing units and display sizes.

Three-dimensional CityGML building models in mobile augmented reality: a smartphone-based pose tracking system

Many augmented reality(AR)systems are developed for entertainment,but AR and particularly mobile AR potentially have more application possibilities in other *** example,in civil engineering or city planning,AR could be used in combination with CityGML building models to enhance some typical workflows in planning,execution and operation processes.A concrete example is the geo-referenced on-site visualization of planned buildings or building parts,to simplify planning processes and optimize the communication between the participating *** of the main challenges for the visualization lies in the pose tracking,*** real-time estimation of the translation and rotation of the mobile device to align the virtual objects with *** this paper,we introduce a proof-of-concept fine-grained mobile AR CityGML-based pose tracking system aimed at the mentioned *** system estimates poses by combining 3D CityGML data with information derived from 2D camera images and an inertial measurement unit and is fully self-sufficient and operates without external *** results of our evaluation show that CityGML and low-cost off-the-shelf mobile devices,such as smartphones,already provide performant and accurate mobile pose tracking for AR in civil engineering and city planning.
