5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and oxaliplatin, either alone or in combination, are widely used in chemotherapy for advanced colorectal cancer. Among chemotherapeutic strategies, metronomic chemotherapy has recently demonstrated promising efficacy against otherwise chemoresistant neoplasms. However, data on the efficacy of metronomic applications in cancer stem cells are lacking. This cell population is characterized by resistance to most chemotherapeutic models. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of metronomic chemotherapy and compared it with high-concentration administration of 5-FU and oxaliplatin and their combination in colon adenocarcinoma cells and colon cancer stem cells. We assessed changes in expression levels of specific genes involved in 5-FU and oxaliplatin resistance (thymidylate synthase, DNA (cytosine-5)-methyltransferase 1, dihydrofolate reductase, serine hydroxymethyltransferase, DNA excision repair protein, dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase) in relation to drug administration schedule using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. We also examined changes in cell viability. Metronomic chemotherapy showed greater efficacy in gene expression levels in colorectal cancer cells, while high, single-concentration administration was more effective in colon cancer stem cells. regarding cell viability, no significant change was observed between metronomic and single-dose treatments. These results suggest that metronomic chemotherapy may be more effective than high-dose chemotherapy in some patients with colorectal cancer, though high, single-concentration administration may be more effective against cancer stem cells.

FEM analyses for influences of pressure solution on thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling in porous rock mass

The model of pressure solution for granular aggregate was introduced into the FEM code for analysis of thermo-hydro- mechanical （T-H-M） coupling in porous medium. Aiming at a hypothetical nuclear waste repository in an unsaturated quartz rock mass, two computation conditions were designed： 1） the porosity and the permeability of rock mass are fimctions of pressure solution; 2） the porosity and the permeability are constants. Then the corresponding numerical simulations for a disposal period of 4 a were carried out, and the states of temperatures, porosities and permeabilities, pore pressures, flow velocities and stresses in the rock mass were investigated. The results show that at the end of the calculation in case 1, pressure solution makes the porosities and the permeabilities decrease to 10%-45% and 0.05%-1.4% of their initial values, respectively. Under the action of the release heat of nuclear waste, the negative pore pressures both in case 1 and case 2 are 1.2-1.4 and 1.01-l.06 times of the initial values, respectively. So, the former represents an obvious effect of pressure solution. The magnitudes and distributions of stresses within the rock mass in the two calculation cases are the same.

High coercivity Sr-ferrite Magnetic Thin Films Induced by Various Underlayers

Three kinds of oxide underlayers, namely Si02, ZnO and Al2O3, were deposited prior to the sputtering of Sr-ferrite films, respectively, in order to induce the optimum grain morphology and the texture of the films. A Sr-ferrite film with an easy axis in-plane orientation was induced by SiO2 underlayer. In contrast, it prefers to be perpendicular to film plane for the cases of ZnO and Al2O3 underlayers. The optimum magnetic properties of the former film along film plane are: 4πMr=1.7 kg, iHc=5.35 kOe, and Sq=0.59, which are mainly dominated by the exchange coupling effect, determined by Wohlfarth's remanence analysis, among grains. While those for the films with an easy axis perpendicular to film plane can be as high as 4πMr=3.72 kg, iHc=6.42 kOe, and Sq=0.82, which are mainly dominated by the magnetostatic interaction among grains.

One of the main challenges in deep-water drilling is gas-hydrate plugs,which make the drilling *** oil-based drilling fluids（OBDF） that would be used for deep-water drilling in the South china Sea were tested to investigate the characteristics of gas-hydrate formation,agglomeration and inhibition by an experimental system under the temperature of 4 ？c and pressure of 20 MPa,which would be similar to the case of 2000 m water *** results validate the hydrate shell formation model and show that the water cut can greatly influence hydrate formation and agglomeration behaviors in the *** oleophobic effect enhanced by hydrate shell formation which weakens or destroys the interfacial films effect and the hydrophilic effect are the dominant agglomeration mechanism of hydrate *** formation of gas hydrates in OBDF is easier and quicker than in water-based drilling fluids in deep-water conditions of low temperature and high pressure because the former is a W/O dispersive emulsion which means much more gas-water interfaces and nucleation sites than the *** ethylene glycol concentrations can inhibit the formation of gas hydrates and to some extent also act as an anti-agglomerant to inhibit hydrates agglomeration in the OBDF.

Multi-pass slab vertical-horizontal （V-H） rolling process with variable edging roll shape have been simulated with explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method. The distributions of plastic strain contour in slab daring rolling process with different edging roll and under different rolling stage have been obtained. The results show that there exist two thin strain assembling zones in slab when the flat edging roll is used, and there just exist one strain assembling zone in slab when the edging roll with groove is used. And compared the deformation equality between flat edging roll and edging roll with groove, the lateris better than the former, which supplies the theory prove to the slab deformation distribution during V-H rolling process and is helpful for predicting the slab texture.

Hydrogen embrittlement of a microalloyed bainitic forging steel

The hydrogen embrittlement (HE) of a novel microalloyed bainitic forging steel with a strength level of 1100 MPa was evaluated using electrochemical charging and slow strain rate tensile test method with notched round bar specimens. The results show that the susceptibility to HE of the as-forged bainitic forging steel is notably higher than that of the quenched and tempered (Q&T) steel at same strength level, which is ascribed primarily to the presence of a relatively high amount of large blocky martensite/austenite (M/A) constituents of the former. It was found that low-temperature tempering treatment at 200 c could significantly alleviate the susceptibility to HE by a relative decrease of * 35% of the as-forged bainitic forging steel at no expense of strength and ductility, though its resistance to HE is still a little lower than that of the Q&T steel. Thus, it is suggested that efforts concerning refining of the large blocky M/A through optimizing chemical composition and processing route could help to further alleviate the susceptibility to HE of the tested bainitic forging steel.

Microstructure characteristics of spray-formed high vanadium and cobalt high speed steel

The microstructure of high vanadium and cobalt high speed steel （high-V/co HSS ） and the morphology of its carbides were analyzed by optical microscope （OM）,scanning electron microscope （SEM） ,electron probe microanalysis （EPMA）, X-ray power diffraction （XrD）, atomic force microscopy （AFM） and single phase erosion （SPE）. The results suggest that the as-sprayed high-V/co HSS has fine equiaxed grains （about 20 μm in size）, which were homogeneously distributed. The carbides have two classical morphologies- one is fine particles （ about 2 μm in size） distributed along the grain boundaries and the other is needle-like one, distributed on the grain boundaries. There are Mc carbides, M2c carbides,M6c carbides and cr2Wc2 carbides in the as-sprayed high-V/co HSS samples,however,in the as-cast high-V/ co HSS ,there are Mc carbides and crzWc2 carbides only. The SPE results show that there are two types of Mc carbides in the as-sprayed HSS ：the sphere one and the particle-like one. The former is about 2 ixm in size and the latter is less than 1 μm, dispersed inside the grains,quite different from the Mc carbides in the as-cast HSS. According to the AFM results, the skeleton-like M6c carbides of the as-sprayed high-V/co HSS are embedded in the matrix along the grain boundaries. It is found that there are sharp membrane pieces on the carbides. Some small bamboo-shoot-like Mc carbides grow from the matrix and are dispersed inside the grain. Those larger Mc carbides are spherical particles embedded at the grain boundary junctions.

Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is becoming a growing public health concern due to increasing disease and economic burdens. Epidemiological information about SLE, especially its incidence rate, is limited in developing countries. In the current study, we sought to investigate the incidence, prevalence,and economic burdens of SLE in urban china. We conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study using databases from Urban employee Basic Medical Insurance and Urban resident Basic Medical Insurance between 2013 and 2017, covering approximately 300 million residents in 23 provincial regions in china. Incidence rate and prevalence were standardized by age and gender to china's 2010 national census data. Additionally, we calculated the average annual costs and hospital visit rates. A total of132,258 SLE patients were identified during the study period, with a mean age of 43.03 years(standard deviation: 15.29 years). Of these patients, 81.33% were women. In 2017, the standardized incidence rate of SLE in china was 14.09(95% confidence interval(cI), 11.95–16.41) per 100,000 person-years, with a higher incidence in women than in men(26.41 vs. 5.92 per 100,000 person-years). Standardized prevalence in 2017 was 47.61(41.77–53.83), 94.16(80.67–108.69), and 17.86(13.84–22.38) per 100,000 people in the overall, female, and male populations, respectively. The average annual rates of increase in prevalence were 21.50%, 19.72%, and 25.67% from 2013 to 2017 in the overall, female, and male populations, respectively. The age-specific incidence rates peaked at 30–49 years old in women and 40–59 years old in men. SLE incident and prevalent cases were most common in North-West china and less common in southern and eastern china. Distinct variations in incidence rates across different regions are also consistent with the varying levels of ultraviolet radiation exposure in china. Liposome co-encapsulation of anti-cancer agents for pharmacological optimization of nanomedicine-based combination chemotherapy

Aim:co-encapsulation of anti-cancer agents in pegylated liposomes may provide an effective tool to maximize efficacy of combined drug therapy by taking advantage of the long circulation time,passive targeting,and reduced toxicity of liposome ***:We have developed several liposome formulations of co-encapsulated drugs using various permutations of three active agents:doxorubicin(Dox),mitomycin-c lipidic prodrug(MLP),and alendronate(Ald).Dox and MLP are available in single drug liposomal formulations:pegylated liposomal Dox(PLD,Doxil®),clinically approved,and pegylated liposomal MLP(PL-MLP,Promitil®),in phase 1-2 clinical *** have previously shown that co-encapsulation of Dox and Ald in pegylated liposomes(PLAD)results in a formulation with valuable immuno-pharmacologic properties and superior antitumor properties over PLD in immunocompetent animal *** on the PLAD and PL-MLP platforms,we developed a new pegylated liposomal formulation of co-entrapped Dox and MLP(PLAD-MLP),with the former localized in the liposome water phase via remote loading with an ammonium alendronate and the latter passively loaded into the liposome lipid *** alternative formulation of co-entrapped MLP and Dox in which ammonium Ald was replaced with ammonium sulfate(PLD-MLP)was also tested for comparative ***: PLAD-MLP displays high loading efficiency of Dox and MLP nearing 100%, and a mean vesicle diameter of 110 nm. cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM) of PLAD-MLP reveals round vesicles with an intra-vesicle Dox-alendronate precipitate. comparison of Seismic Design codes between china and the United States for reinforced Soil retaining Walls

Because of its excellent seismic performance, reinforced soil retaining walls are increasingly used in civil engineering. Although many countries have published corresponding design codes, the differences between them are still relatively large. Using the FHWA code and the code for Seismic Design of railway Engineering(cSDrE), stability calculations of reinforced soil retaining walls were carried out and the similarities and differences between these two design codes were analyzed. According to the comparative analysis, the following conclusions are drawn: the inertia force, the earth pressure and the tensile force of reinforcements calculated from the cSDrE are less than those from the FHWA code, and the safety factor calculated from the former is larger. Although the M-O method is recommended to calculate the dynamic earth pressure, the FHWA code suggests a higher action point as compared to the cSDrE.
