Appropriate temporal and spatial scales are important prerequisites for obtaining reliable results in studies of wildlife activity patterns and interspecific *** spread of camera-trap technology has increased interest in and feasibility of studying the activity patterns and interspecific interactions of ***,such studies are often conducted at arbitrary spatial and temporal scales,and the methods used impose scale on the study rather than determining how activity and species interactions change with spatial *** this study,we used a waveletbased approach to determine the temporal and spatial scales for activity patterns and interspecific interactions on Amur leopard and their ungulate prey species that were recorded using camera traps in the main Amur leopard occurrence region in northeast *** identified that Amur leopards were more active in spring and fall than summer,and fluctuated with periodicities of 9 and 17 days,*** relationships between leopards and their prey commonly occurred in spring and fall,with a periodicity of about 20 days,indicating the appropriate seasons and temporal scales for interspecific interaction *** influence of human activities on the activity patterns of Amur leopard or prey species often occurred over longer time periods(60–64 days).Twodimensional wavelet analyses showed that interactions between leopard and prey were more significant at spatial scales of 1 ***,our study provides a feasible approach to studying the temporal and spatial scales for wildlife activity patterns and interspecific interaction research using camera trap data.

Gobi spans a large area of China,surpassing the combined expanse of mobile dunes and semi-fixed *** presence significantly influences the movement of sand and ***,the complex origins and diverse materials constituting the Gobi result in notable differences in saltation processes across various Gobi *** is challenging to describe these processes according to a uniform ***,it becomes imperative to articulate surface characteristics through parameters such as the three-dimensional(3D)size and shape of *** morphology information for Gobi gravels is essential for studying its genesis and sand *** enhance the efficiency and information yield of gravel parameter measurements,this study conducted field experiments in the Gobi region across Dunhuang City,Guazhou county,and Yumen City(administrated by Jiuquan City),Gansu Province,China in March 2023.A research framework and methodology for measuring 3D parameters of gravel using point cloud were developed,alongside improved calculation formulas for 3D parameters including gravel grain size,volume,flatness,roundness,sphericity,and equivalent grain *** multi-view geometry technology for 3D reconstruction allowed for establishing an optimal data acquisition scheme characterized by high point cloud reconstruction efficiency and clear ***,the proposed methodology incorporated point cloud clustering,segmentation,and filtering techniques to isolate individual gravel point *** point cloud algorithms,including the Oriented Bounding Box(OBB),point cloud slicing method,and point cloud triangulation,were then deployed to calculate the 3D parameters of individual *** systematic processes allow precise and detailed characterization of individual *** gravel grain size and volume,the correlation coefficients between point cloud and manual measurements all exceeded 0.9000,confirming the feasibility of the proposed methodol

Background:Predicting the potential habitat of Phytolacca americana,a high-risk invasive species,can help provide a scientific basis for its quarantine and control *** the optimized MaxEnt model,we applied the latest climate data,CMIP6,to predict the distribution of potential risk zones and their change patterns for *** under current and future(SSP126,SSP245,SSP585)climate conditions,followed by invasion potential ***:The predictions of MaxEnt model based on R language optimization were highly accurate.A significantly high area of 0.8703 was observed for working characteristic curve(AUC value)of subject and the kappa value was *** the current climate conditions,the risk zones for *** were mainly distributed in Sichuan,Chongqing,Guizhou,Hunan,and Guangxi *** contribution rate of each climatic factor of *** was calculated using the jackknife *** four factors with the highest contribution rate included minimum temperature of coldest month(bio6,51.4%),the monthly mean diurnal temperature difference(bio2,27.9%),precipitation of the driest quarter(bio17,4.9%),and the warmest seasonal precipitation(bio12,4.3%).Conclusion:Under future climatic conditions,the change in the habitat pattern of *** generally showed a migration toward the Yangtze River Delta region and the southeastern coastal region of *** migration exhibited an expansion trend,highlighting the strong future invasiveness of the *** on the predictions,targeted prevention and control strategies for areas with significant changes in *** were ***,this study emphasizes the need of an integrated approach to effectively prevent the further spread of invasive plants.

Biological volatile organic compounds(BVOCs) have a large influence on atmospheric environmental quality, climate change and the carbon cycle. This study assesses the composition and diurnal variation in emission rates of BVOCs from Pinus tabuliformis, using an enclosure technique. Environmental parameters(temperature and light intensity) and physiological parameters(net photosynthetic rate, P_n; stomatal conductance, g_s; intercellular CO_2 concentration, C_i; and transpiration rate, T_r) that may affect emission behavior were continuously monitored. The 10 most abundant compound groups emitted by P. tabuliformis were classified by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The dominant monoterpenoid compounds emitted were α-pinene, β-myrcene, α-farnesene and limonene. The diurnal emission rate of BVOCs changed with temperature and light intensity, with dynamic analysis of BVOCs emissions revealing that their emission rates were more affected by temperature than light. The variation in monoterpene emission rates was consistent with estimates of P_n, g_s and T_r. Basal emission rates(at 30 °C,) of the main BVOCs ranged from 0.006 to 0.273 μg^(-1)/(hr g),while the basal ER standardization coefficients ranged from 0.049 to 0.144 °C^(-1). Overall, these results provide a detailed reference for the effective selection and configuration of tree species to effectively prevent and control atmospheric pollution.

Early selection is an important method to shorten the breeding cycle for tree species, which may differ in the time for early selection. To evaluate the early selected time for Larix kaempferi, tree height and diameter at breast height of 57 L. kaempferi clones were measured over many different growth years. The results indicated that, except for age × clone interaction for diameter at breast height （P = 0.741）, there were significant differences among all variation sources （P 〈 0.01）. The coefficient of phenotypic variation ranged from 14.89 to 35.65% for height and from 19.17 to 23.86% for diameter at breast height in different growth years. The repeatability of height and of diameter at breast height among clones was high, ranging from 0.6181 to 0.8531 （height） and from 0.8443 to 0.8497 （diameter at breast height）, in different growth years. There were significant positive correlations between all pairs of growth traits except between height in the 2nd growth year and height in the 30th growth year; and between height in the 2nd growth year × diameter at breast height in the 30th growth year. With a comprehen- sive evaluation method and a selection ratio of 10%, L65, L1, L62, L9, L15, and L78 were selected as excellent clones in the 30th growth year. Their average values of height and diameter at breast height were 9.81 and 16.57% higher than the overall average, representing genetic gains of 6.46 and 13.99%, respectively. This study provides a theoretical foundation for the genetic improvement of L. kaempferi.

Although numerous hypotheses have been proposed to explain the patterns of species diversity of forests at local and landscape levels,it is still difficult to predict the alpha diversity of species,especially in tropical and subtropical natural forests where trees of different sizes and shapes are highly *** might characterize species diversity,and the possible correlation between these variables may contribute to the development of easy-to-use growth indicators to predict diversity and to understand the status of trees within a *** this study,diameter classes were divided using the equal diameter class(EDC)and minimum measured diameter(MMD)methods,and five species diversity indices were calculated for each diameter class of 14 permanent plots in five national nature reserves surrounding the Tropic of Cancer(23.5°),southwest *** results show that species richness,abundance,and spatial diversity indices decreased in a typical inverted J-shape pattern with increasing diameter class and MMD,and could be easily modeled by a negative exponential *** ShannonWiener index showed a linear decrease while Pielou’s evenness index displayed a linear increase,with a small degree of *** results suggest that species diversity in subtropical forests is closely related to tree size,and the relationship is possibly independent of *** DBH of some trees in a stand could be informative regarding species diversity and contribute to the investigation and assessment of biodiversity.

The influences of biotic and abiotic factors on the occurrence and severity of poplar canker disease in Qingfeng county, China and the management implications

Landscape pathology is a research approach that can provide validation of the effectiveness of regional controls of forest disease at a landscape scale. In this paper, we analyzed the effects of stand features, management approaches, and geographical locations on poplar canker disease incidence （DI） and disease severity index （DSI） of individual trees at a 10 km x 10 km mesoscale landscape in Qingfeng county, China. DI varied significantly with stand age, tree densities, and the degree of canopy closure. DI in stands younger than 4 years old was significantly lower than that in the stands over 6 years old and reached the highest value at a stand age of 8-10 years. Overall, DI was positively correlated with stand age, stand density, andthe degree of canopy closure. DI was significantly lower in agro-forest stand patches than in other three patch types, i.e. isolated patch, pure stand patch, and mixed stand patch. Poplar plantations distributed around and near to villages exhibited significantly higher DI mainly due to human activities and herbivores. Fragmentation or connectivity in this mesoscale landscape seemed not impact disease occurrence. DSI was not significantly correlated with stand density, but varied significantly with tree varieties and trees ages. DSI was highest in stands of 10-12 year trees for all poplar varieties we studied here. Plantation density and plantation age were thus critical factors in determining DI and DSI. A logistic predictive model of disease occurrence was developed for the study area, considering varieties, age, height, density, canopy cover, stand types, patch types, management status, and stand geographical locations. Our study here shows that adjustment of stand density by thinning at different plantation ages is an effective approach controlling the occurrence canker disease in short-rotation poplar plantations at the landscape scale.
