Tree allometry responses to competition and complementarity in mixed-species plantations of Betula alnoides

Tree allometry plays a crucial role in tree survival,stability,and timber quantity and quality of mixed-species ***,the responses of tree allometry to resource utilisation within the framework of interspecific competition and complementarity remain poorly *** into consideration strong-and weakspace competition(SC and WC),as well as N_(2)-fixing and non-N_(2)-fixing tree species(FN and nFN),a mixedspecies planting trial was conducted for Betula alnoides,a pioneer tree species,which was separately mixed with Acacia melanoxylon(SC+FN),Erythrophleum fordii(WC+FN),Eucalyptus cloeziana(SC+nFN)and Pinus kesiya ***(WC+nFN)in southern *** years after planting,tree growth,total nitrogen(N)and carbon(C)contents,and the natural abundances of^(15)N and^(13)C in the leaves were measured for each species,and the mycorrhizal colonisation rates of *** were investigated under each *** variations and their relationships with space competition and nutrient-related factors were *** results showed a consistent effect of space competition on the height-diameter relationship of *** in mixtures with FN or *** tree height growth of *** was significantly promoted under high space competition,and growth in diameter at breast height(DBH),tree height and crown size were all expedited in mixtures with *** symbiotic relationship between ectomycorrhizal fungi and *** was significantly influenced by both space competition and N_(2) fixation by the accompanying tree species,whereas such significant effects were absent for arbuscular mycorrhizal ***,high space competition significantly decreased the water use efficiency(WUE)of ***,and its N use efficiency(NUE)was much lower in the FN *** equation modeling further demonstrated that the stem allometry of *** was affected by its NUE and WUE via changes in its height growth,and crown allometry was influ

Objectives:The chemical constituents of Poria cocos grown with different substrates vary significantly;thus,identifying and comparing their biomarkers are *** and Methods:Herein,the chemical constituents of Poria cocos obtained with five different substrates were assessed using gas chromatography–ion mobility spectrometry(GC-IMS),high-performance liquid chromatography and multivariate statistical ***:The content of moisture,ash,alcohol-soluble matter,and heavy metals,except for those of the miscellaneous wood Poria cocos,conform to the specifications defined in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia(Edition 2020),and the polysaccharide contents are all greater than 57%.Conclusions:Based on GC-IMS and the established fingerprints,87 compounds were detected,70 of which were identified in each *** statistical analysis revealed seven compounds(two esters,three alcohols,and two aldehydes),which could be considered as potential marker compounds for discrimination.

Variability of urban fractional vegetation cover and its driving factors in 328 cities in China

Urban green space promotes the health of urban residents,enhances urban ecosystem biodiversity,mitigates environmental pollution,and attenuates urban heat island ***,urban vegetation cover is highly heterogeneous and difficult to *** this study,the variation of urban fractional vegetation cover(FVC)in 328 cities in China from 1990 to2022 was quantified based on Landsat satellite data at a 30-m *** was found that from 1990 to 2005,due to increases in building density and impervious surfaces in cities,the national mean urban vegetation cover decreased from 0.38 to ***2005,urban vegetation cover began to reverse,reaching 0.45 in *** increasing trend was most pronounced in newly built urban *** decrease in average urban vegetation cover before 2005 was mainly due to the expansion of low vegetation cover areas,while the increase in urban vegetation cover after 2005 manifested as the expansion of high vegetation cover *** reversal in the trend of urban vegetation cover change after 2004 is related to the gradual implementation of national policies requiring increased urban green space *** urban gross domestic product(GDP)showed the highest correlation with changes in urban vegetation *** large and medium-sized cities,the top three factors influencing vegetation cover were GDP,urban population,and ***,for cities in arid/semi-arid regions,changes in vegetation cover were more sensitive to climatic factors(such as precipitation).Although the urban vegetation cover in China has substantially increased in recent years,the urban green space in small-sized cities and in the old urban districts of large-sized cities still have room to improve.

Global climate change has increased concerns regarding biodiversity ***,many key conservation issues still required further research,including demographic history,deleterious mutation load,adaptive evolution,and putative *** we generated the first chromosome-level genome of the endangered Chinese hazelnut,Corylus chinensis,and compared the genomic signatures with its sympatric widespread ***-C yunnanensis *** found large genome rearrangements across all Corylus species and identified species-specific expanded gene families that may be involved in *** genomics revealed that both *** and the *** complex had diverged into two genetic lineages,forming a consistent pattern of southwestern-northern *** size of the narrow southwestern lineages of both species have decreased continuously since the late Miocene,whereas the widespread northern lineages have remained stable(***) or have even recovered from population bottlenecks(*** complex) during the *** with ***-C. yunnanensis complex,*** showed significantly lower genomic diversity and higher inbreeding ***,*** carried significantly fewer deleterious mutations than ***-C. yunnanensis complex,as more effective purging selection reduced the accumulation of homozygous *** also detected signals of positive selection and adaptive introgression in different lineages,which facilitated the accumulation of favorable variants and formation of local ***,both types of selection and exogenous introgression could have mitigated inbreeding and facilitated survival and persistence of ***,our study provides critical insights into lineage differentiation,local adaptation,and the potential for future recovery of endangered trees.

Many deep learning-based registration methods rely on a single-stream encoder-decoder network for computing deformation fields between 3D ***,these methods often lack constraint information and overlook semantic consistency,limiting their *** address these issues,we present a novel approach for medical image registration called theDual-VoxelMorph,featuring a dual-channel cross-constraint *** innovative network utilizes both intensity and segmentation images,which share identical semantic information and feature *** encoder-decoder structures calculate deformation fields for intensity and segmentation images,as generated by the dual-channel cross-constraint *** design facilitates bidirectional communication between grayscale and segmentation information,enabling the model to better learn the corresponding grayscale and segmentation details of the same anatomical *** ensure semantic and directional consistency,we introduce constraints and apply the cosine similarity function to enhance semantic *** on four public datasets demonstrates superior performance compared to the baselinemethod,achieving Dice scores of 79.9%,64.5%,69.9%,and 63.5%for OASIS-1,OASIS-3,LPBA40,and ADNI,respectively.

Molecular evolution of Toll-like receptors in rodents

Toll-like receptors(TLRs),the key sensor molecules in vertebrates,trigger the innate immunity and prime the adaptive immune *** TLR family of rodents,the largest order of mammals,typically contains 13 TLR ***,a clear picture of the evolution of the rodent TLR family has not yet emerged and the TLR evolutionary patterns are unclear in rodent ***,we analyzed the natural variation and the evolutionary processes acting on the TLR family in rodents at both the interspecific and population *** results showed that rodent TLRs were dominated by purifying selection,but a series of positively selected sites(PSSs)primarily located in the ligand-binding domain was also *** numbers of PSSs differed among TLRs,and nonviralsensing TLRs had more PSSs than those in viral-sensing ***-conversion events were found between TLR1 and TLR6 in most rodent *** genetic analyses showed that TLR2,TLR8,and TLR12 were under positive selection in Rattus norvegicus and ***,whereas positive selection also acted on TLR5 and TLR9 in the former species,as well as TLR1 and TLR7 in the latter ***,we found that the proportion of polymorphisms with potentially functional change was much lower in viral-sensing TLRs than in nonviral-sensing TLRs in both of these rat *** findings revealed the first thorough insight into the evolution of the rodent TLR genetic variability and provided important novel insights into the evolutionary history of TLRs over long and short timescales.

Spatio-temporal variation of water salinity in mangroves revealed by continuous monitoring and its relationship to floristic diversity

Salinity is among the most critical factors limiting the growth and species distribution of coastal *** salinity in estuarine ecosystems varies temporally and spatially,but the variation patterns across different time scales and salinity fluctuation have rarely been *** effects of salinity on floristic diversity in mangroves are not fully understood due to the temporal and spatial heterogeneity of *** this study,we monitored water salinity at an interval of 10-min over one year in three mangrove catchment areas representing the outer part,middle part,and inner part respectively of Dongzhai Bay,Hainan,*** number of mangrove community types and dominant mangrove species of the three catchment areas were also *** found that the diurnal variation and dry-season intra-month variation in water salinity were driven by tidal *** seasonal variation in water salinity was mainly driven by rainfall with higher salinity occurring in the dry season and lower salinity occurring in the wet ***,water salinity was highest at the outer part,intermediate at the middle part,and lowest at the inner part of the *** intra-month and annual fluctuations of water salinity were highest at the middle part and lowest at the outer part of the *** number of mangrove community types and dominant species were lowest at the outer part,intermediate at the middle part,and highest at the inner part of the *** results suggest that the temporal variation of water salinity in mangroves is driven by different factors at different time scales and therefore it is necessary to measure water salinity at different time scales to get a complete picture of the saline environment that mangroves ***,lower salinity levels benefit mangrove species richness within a bay landscape,however,further research is needed to distinguish the effects of salinity fluctuation and salinity level in affecting mangrove species richness.

Goji berry(Lycium barbarum L.)is substantially dependent on nitrogen fertilizer application,which can signiﬁ-cantly enhance fruit yield and Goji berry industrial development in Ningxia,*** study aimed to analyze the functions of differential nitrogen application rates including low(N1),medium(N2),and high(N3)levels in soil microbial community structure(bacterial and fungal)at 2 diverse soil depths(0-20,20-40 cm)through high-throughput sequencing technology by targeting 16S RNA gene and ITS1&ITS2 *** the observed physicochemical parameters exhibited signiﬁcant improvement(p0.05)differences among three group treatments(N1,N2,and N3).Furthermore,the functional enrichment analysis demonstrated signiﬁcant(p<0.05)enrichment of quorum sensing,cysteine and methionine metabolism,and transcriptional machinery for bacterial communities,while various saprotrophic functional roles for fungal ***,moderately reducing the use of N-supplemented fertilizers is conducive to increasing soil nitrogen utilization rate,which can contribute to sustainable agriculture practices through improved soil quality,and microbial community structure and functions.

The objective of this study consisted of evaluating the effect of the application of chitosan(Q),1-methylcyclopropene(1-MCP)under two controlled temperatures on some physical,physiological,and chemical parameters contributing to the quality of Persian lime Citrus latifolia *** treatments were evaluated,resulting from the combination of four senescence retardant applications(Q,1-MCP,1-MCP+Q,and without application)on fruits stored at two temperatures(12/20℃.Epidermis color(luminosity,chromaticity,and hue),fruit appearance,respiration,weight loss,total juice content,total soluble solids,and titratable acidity were registered during the *** results indicate that the 1-MCP and Q combination favored fruit postharvest quality conditions such as reducing respiration rate;maintaining fruit good appearance,turgidity,and brighter fruit chromaticity;fruits treated with chitosan and stored at 12℃,favored total soluble *** the other hand,Variables such as weight loss,juice content,acidity,phenols,flavonoids,antioxidant activity,and hue values were favored by a 12℃ storing temperature regardless of the *** general,the use of modified atmospheres,senescence retardants,and refrigeration as postharvest methods,can increase Persian lime shelf life.
